    I'm still playing a few hours a week, not much at all but I'm having fun clearing towns of zeds with a vss and all of that sp6 lying around in gift boxes!

    I'm of the mind that devs have better control, resources and testing ability than the modders would and therefore would be able to create better systems - but maybe I'm not giving modders enough credit. For what it's worth I'm not necessarily for any specific humanity system either. I think this video was presented thoughtfully as not to eliminate KOS, which is one of things I liked about it. As much as I hate when it happens to me and I don't KOS other players (unless I'm in an unexpected cqc that leaves me open defensively with no time to talk), I think it's important that KOS always remains a genuine threat in-game. It's what keeps us all in constant tension, that we're never completely safe. And as @-Gews- points out in these threads, which I happen to agree with: forcing play-styles is a bad thing. I'd like to see a system that lends itself to or promotes more neutral interactions - not one that promotes Kumbaya or attempts to eliminate KOS. More gray area, that's what I'd like to see. Just my 2c.

    IMO the humanity presentation is a good idea as the KOS vs Kumbaya argument just seems to frustrate everyone. And simply drawing lines at PVE Server or PVP Server isn't a satisfactory solution either. With modding soon to be released that dreaded "split the community" event seems to be teetering on the event horizon too. I like that the devs stepped up and put this out there in the official status report. It's an acknowledgment that in-game interaction is still lacking and needs ... something. I think as soon as modding and server files are released this something is one of the first things that modders will try to tackle and that'll lead to variants trying to balance the PVE/social interaction/PVP. Personally, I'd rather see the devs try to integrate some model (humanity, or something like it) directly into vanilla and at least lay the framework down. Heck, by that time server files will be released and if we truly don't like it then we can just set humanity=0 in our server.cfg

    Oh snap. I see it now, that's the Orion constellation right over the road it's much clearer as a constellation. This will absolutely help with navigation.

    I always thought that a bio-hazard fog, smog or smoke around the edge of the map would suit both the impenetrable part and the visual part. Get too close and your health drops quickly or you get sick. And you could make it tall enough that you can't see debug from the edge of the map hilltops. Of course, not being a programmer I have no idea how hard this would be to implement or if it would crush server performance.

    Win 7 should have come with DirectX 11 installed but your GPU needs to support DirectX 11 too. What GPU/video card do you have?

    A few more basics to try: 1) Go to your C:\Users\Username\Documents\ folder and delete (or rename) the DayZ folder (this does not happen automatically on a reinstall, it remains even after an uninstall). Starting up DayZ will create a brand new set of default configs. You'll have to redo all of your video/name/customization settings, but it's better than not being able to play at all. 2) If you're coming back after a few years then go into your Steam library, right-click DayZ, select Properties, under the General tab click on Set Launch Options and make sure that nothing is in there (delete everything), click OK and try again. Good luck.

    I agree, I know the devs had recently did some work on the night sky and though it is much improved I think they could go a bit farther. A few patches back, a few of us were doing a lot of swims to debug island and I had done a lot of them alone too. Many times I'd gotten lost out there with no point of reference besides the sun and stars. The sun was easy, the stars took a bit longer but eventually I got the hang of it, becoming familiar with just a few particular groupings/constellations and their movement across the sky. For me it was a tough learning curve, and I only figured it out because of my necessity lost at sea. Even now that I can identify a few constellations in-game that sky navigation knowledge hasn't translated into a truly useful skill because there are much simpler ways to find direction when lost, even without a compass. It just doesn't pass the cost-benefit analysis when I can just run in a straight line for a few minutes until I see something familiar and get my bearings once again. I can see why your average joe player doesn't bother learning the sky because there's really not that much of a payoff for learning it. If the constellations themselves (not just the brightest stars) were a bit more apparent I think more players would readily use them. If we could find an open clearing, concentrate for 15 seconds and then find our direction, well, now the typical player might decide to learn that skill because it's now truly advantageous. I'd suggest making the commonly known constellations brighter so they are a bit more obvious to the average joe. I know it's at odds with the "realism" argument but imo it's a worthy compromise for gameplay. Just my 2c

    I just stopped by to demand that the devs complete the game by tomorrow. I have coffee around 6:30 am and I should be ready to play around 7. I'd like a full kit on my character: BFG5000, helicopter, a fully loaded base near Tisy and a side of fries hold the salt. Thanks, I'm in a hurry.

    Gobbokirk is right, the option doesn't work anymore because the old ui has been replaced completely with the new one. Everyone is using the "new" ui now.

    I'd have voted to make the starvation rate faster and food less common but there doesn't seem to be an option for that, so I didn't vote.

    This immediately made me think lanyard. It would be nice to see something like this as a rare item, maybe found on military zeds. it comes with an attached lanyard and therefore doesn't take up an inventory slot. When pristine it opens tins at 100% efficiency. So, when the CLE/food distribution finally does get fine-tuned then the P38 (and it's resulting inventory/efficiency advantages) would be a keeper.

    I know how you feel about it, IMT. I too have been waiting for the banana holster since .47. I know the devs have explicitly stated that it'll never happen but I'll never lose hope.

    Another great status report! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the changes in .63 and also seeing some of the old crew again (and some newcomers). Since .62 experimental is going the way of the dinosaur soon(tm) and the devs still have their data to collect, why not spice it up a little? Most of those servers are pretty low-pop anyway now. It would be interesting to see the devs take one or two servers and load them up with some gimmickery. Just to draw some curious players in that's all and fill up a server or two. I'm sure the devs have had conversations along the lines of "imagine what would happen if we did xyz? the playerbase would outrage!" Well here's an opportunity to try it. It's only experimental, it's not going to ruin anyone's stable character, and it's coming to the end of it's life-cycle anyway. As @kopo79 said, and as a many of the experimental players have eluded to in the past, I'd also be in favor of harsher conditions. * rainy weather, of course * remove all canned or prepackaged foods - we have to hunt, farm, or fish for what we eat (and trap too, bring back wire!) * turn up deer and animal populations a bit to support this (and bring back boars!) * turn up the zed sensitivity and aggression * turn up the possibility of cholera and infections Basically, do your worst (or best) to keep us on the coast!

    Can't click anything after closing DayZ

    I had similar problems in an earlier iteration when dayz used to crash when closed, but I haven't seen that in quite a while. As @HaseDesTodes said the steam overlay thing has caused problems with some players in the past, disable it temporarily and see if the problem persists. If you have a different overlay going try disabling that temporarily too. With the ctrl-alt-del thing it sounds like another app might be stealing focus. You've probably tried alt-tabbing but give shift-tabbing a try too.

    Sprint & Exhaustion Periods .63 Stamina VS Alternative

    I'm all in favor of a complex stamina system as well. I think it'll force some hard decisions, especially during combat and for those lugging heavy things around like barrels and tents for camps - and (eventually) how it'll integrate into base-building fabrication. Stamina advantage/disadvantage should create some genuinely interesting interactions along the coast (much needed imo), where the freshies may have an endurance advantage over more kitted players. We might now look at players in the distance more closely before engaging, checking out his loadout for example to determine not only what weapon he's carrying - but how much weight he might be carrying too. Does he rest a little too frequently? Based on my own endurance versus what I perceive his to be ... should I wait for this player to leave the city and go into the forest before engaging him? Would that give me any advantage?- or would it favor him? More choices and decisions = more fun! IMO a complex stamina/weight/health/endurance system is a real game changer. I'm curious what ideas the devs have implemented already into .63 and very excited to see what we're going to get in the first iteration!

    Sounds cuts out with new headset. ONLY in DayZ?

    I've had some problems with my USB headset and dayz, but mine doesn't cut out once the game has started. Normally I just use my built in speakers, unless I'm gaming then I plug in the USB headset. I've tried to set it up where my USB headset becomes the default device immediately upon plugging them in, but that's been unreliable at best. The solution for me is to ensure that the headset is the default playback device BEFORE loading up dayz, then everything works fine, alt-tabbing and all. For me there isn't a reliable way to switch output devices after the game has started to load. Hope that helps, give it a try and report back. edit: You can also try disabling your alternate playback device, so if it is defaulting back to that other device, now that's not an option.. In my case, in the pic below I would right-click the Realtek HD Audio Speakers and select disable.
