    Experiental Wrecking Crew

There may be some truth to that but there's a handful of us who have a lot of fun coordinating, discovering new mechanics and trying to push the limits of the new build. It's a loose group but we tend to give a lot of feedback, both on the tracker and on the forums here. Does anything of great importance come from it? Who knows? But on a bad day we still have fun and on a good day we might crash a server :) No harm, no foul.

Finally! A mission that falls directly into my range of expertise! Count me in.

New to the game, extremely slow.

hmmm Red_Ensign might be on to something here... Have you ever used 3d vision or glasses on that rig? Some nVidia hardware/driver combos do have a stereoscopic setting. You might want to check your nVidia Control Panel just to see if there's a stereoscopic setting to disable for Dayz.

    How to change my IGN?

You can change your name from the Main Menu screen (Play, Character, Change Server, Configure, Exit) Just click on your name down in the lower right corner, you wont get a flashing cursor but you can edit it.

    Status Report - 29 Mar 2016

I think it's has everything to do with the GPU, not so much the OS. Windows Vista+SP2 or later should run DX11 (with a compatible GPU) linky

I'm looking forward to the Audio merge too, and I wonder if directional sound will come with the first iteration? You can always check by opening the run box (windows key + R) and running dxdiag. It doesn't take long and will show your dx version and any possible problems.

    Dayz crashing

One thing to check (not necessarily connection related) is to remove any game startup parameters. Many of the old FPS Performance tweaks adjusted those parameters but now most of them are outdated and have been known to cause problems. Go to your Steam Library > right-click DayZ > click Properties > click Set Launch Options > (remove everything) Good luck [edit] These settings are saved in Steam, not Dayz, so uninstalling, re-downloading and reinstalling Dayz doesn't remove these settings, they must be changed manually.

About the new .60 performance comparison

The colors at night looked great, to me that's a major upgrade in an of itself. Also of note, in the map that shows the FPS trouble spots ... way out in the far northwest there seems to be a lot going on. I wonder what could causing all of the trouble out there? I suspect it's more than just birch trees and bushes.

    hay claw

 every new experimental release I grab a hay hook and find a hay bale, hoping to discover what purpose they'll eventually serve  edit: it's bale, not bail

    Debug window

This would be great for testing item values without having to refer to the files, especially the food/calories/volume. Body temperature also, even though the medical thermometer is in game - it's only half of the equation. I've suggested an external thermometer in the past (server temperature), it could be a loot item or even something permanently attached to a building. Hopefully there will be a way to see that value in the future, and a debug window would do the trick. Maybe a launch parameter option? If possible, I think you would have to knowingly opt-in (like the -newui switch) because that's definitely an immersion-breaker, probably only suitable for testing. Also, maybe the devs aren't willing to let us look that deeply under the hood?

need help for hiding my camp

I don't think that persistence works anymore outside of the map's border, you'll probably lose everything after the first server restart if you try. You could always put your camp in the northwest, although it's becoming a bit more popular the last few builds My own strategy on camp placement is all about "inconvenience". If it's inconvenient to go to, or through, then it could be a good spot. That's my number 1, after that I try to make them fit this criteria: a) they aren't pitched on a commonly traveled route between two locations, even certain forests with no roads are well traveled routes B) try to make it so there are obstacles between your camp and the nearest path/route such as steep hills c) it isn't anywhere near a military installation or between heli crash sites d) they cant be seen from the map's edge, those can be well-traveled too, keep them at least 250 meters inland e) I use only barrels and car tents lately, civ tents stand out by the bright color & mil tents stand out by both color and shape f) damaged barrels and tents are preferable, they hide better than pristine ones f) pitch tents and barrels near the dark evergreen trees for cover whenever possible that's my 2c, good luck! edit; and after all of that the camp will probably be found eventually  so take your ratty-est looking green barrel and put your best-est loot in there and hide it really good somewhere else

    Map request

The heat-map theory is interesting, and it sort of parallels my some heli-crash-sites-spawn-an-animal theory. I tend to stick to the north but there's noticeably more wildlife south in the more populated areas of the map, I think the opposite would be more realistic. I haven't noticed the boar-police station pattern but I'll be sure to check that out now. I've managed to get fox with melee because they're slow but never a boar- I'd love to know that boar-cornering trick, if you'd kindly send me a PM I'll be sure to try it out, maybe I can get one into a car tent or a barrel-pen and keep him as a pet :D It would be great of they could get the wildlife to favor their appropriate terrains too, as you said deer and boar in the undisturbed locations - like the deep woods, and the hunting stands. I'd like to see fox on the edge of villages and an occasional hungry boar, chickens around farmhouses, rabbits in the grasses, that sort of thing. I guess those are corrections for beta phase though, as they first have to get the predator animals in before they fine-tune it too much.

    Map request

I've been mindful of the northern game for quite a while, they do spawn north of the tracks (as opposed to have been chased). When the new builds arrive I usually head north towards Sinistok, Tisy and the northwest ponds looking for wildlife before the first server restart. It seems to me that when a build is new (immediately after hive wipe) there is more game, subsequent restarts don't seem to respawn as much as the initial start. The deer herds at Sinistok and Grozovoy Pass coords I posted were all found on the first day of a new build. I've also been looking through my screenshots for the deer herd at the northern edge of the map (037/001) They were standing at the pond a few hours after the build was released (it may have been on experimental build, I don't recall) When I find them I'll post them here I've also noticed there is also frequently deer at the pond at 023/011 on day 1 of the builds, but I rarely see them after.

    Map request

When I used to do a lot of heli hunting I would frequently see an animal near the heli spawn point. Coincidence?

    Map request

A few more I can remember, not in the north 119/115 - deer 021/066 - deer 086/014 - fox 014/111 - boar 088/059 - cows 114/040 - at the top of Klen, I saw what I thought was ... a rabbit. It was several builds ago, I believe before the fox was in. Is there even a rabbit model? or was there?

    Map request

I'm not much good with photoshop either but I can give you some northern coordinates where I've seen and killed game. Forgive me if I dont remember all of the builds exactly, but the locations are all solid in my memory. 013/054 - one white chicken, one brown chicken and a fox (all this build) 022/027 - cow herds (the last few builds) 015/049 - boar, I've seen him twice here (once this build) 014/030 - deer herd 017/020 - deer herd (last build) 049/104 - deer herd between ponds 062/014 - deer herd at pond 064/017 - deer herd on treeline (several times across different builds) 037/011 - deer herd (I saw them only once here at the pond, I think it was .56) 073/029 - fox 077/041 - boar If I can remember any more, I'll add to the list. and another fox, this one north of Berezino woodline, approx 116/058

I have no idea what to do... (help please)

Make sure there's nothing stuck in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\downloading folder, unless you're currently downloading or updating something that directory should be empty. You might want to try deleting the contents of downloading, restarting your computer and trying again.

    New UI?

I've been switching back and forth for a while but I'm staying in -newui about 90% of the time now. You can remove wheels with a lug wrench in oldui, but to detach anything else from a vehicle I think you'll need to be in newui if you wanted to take a spark plug out of a sedan, for example, it might be newui only. I believe there's no problem attaching things to vehicles under oldui, just removing them. Be forewarned newui is still rough and glitchy. There were nonworking icons in experimental newui but those have vanished for now, I guess until they get them working. In newui you might have trouble loading mags into various guns which is no fun for anybody, Your gun choices may be limited to what works and what doesn't. I've had trouble with the sporter, mosin, sks and others, but the blaze, winchester and smg's seem to work fine for me. And as blacktwin said above no statuses other than messages. Depending on your playstyle you might simply hate it or you might find it more immersive because it feels more spontaneous (at least to me it does). You'll suddenly find yourself in a red overheating state with little warning and then need to suddenly change your plans and find water to cool of quickly. or a barely noticeable "I am thirsty" under the oldui is now a critical notice under newui as it could turn into dehydration quickly since there is no way to check your thirst/hunger/temperature/stuffed/sickness/condition, you must now wait for the next message to appear. The fps boost I'm getting is just barely noticeable, if you switched over to newui solely for fps purposes you'd probably switch right back as it's a bit of a game-changer. I will say that even though it's glitchy it does grow on you after a while.
  20. I've got a good memory of one time I was saved by a random player. I was in Cherno looting some of the outlying houses and went into a shed, upon exit I got sniped in the legs. Fell down like lump and then crawled behind the shed. One bandage was all I had to stop the bleeding but I didn't have any way to make a splint. After lying there about 30 seconds (which felt like 10 minutes) deciding what to do a voice came over the comm saying "Don't worry I'll be there in a minute" It was the squeakiest voice I've ever heard come over a comm. My death was imminent. He said "Are you there?", and I replied "Me?" "Yeah you, the guy who got sniped in the legs, I'll be there in a minute", he squeaked The next thing I know I see a guy sprinting full speed right at me, A gunshot rings off, the sniper was trying to shoot him down too. Well, this guy runs by me full speed and drops a splint right in my lap and just keeps on running All he said as he ran by was "Nice hat, Bro." I patched up, left the bright orange boonie hat and got the hell outta Cherno. Thanks little dude, you may be squeaky but you ain't no squeaker.

    A Halloween Cannibal Experience

Another good adventure story with great pics, well done. I do like the format, it's easy to scroll through and to follow the story. I wouldn't mind if upon clicking a pic that it auto-resized to full screen in my browser window, as opposed to rendering it in it's natural resolution (where I get the scroll & sliders) but I know that's the forum software/invision and not under your control. For now I right-click and open image in a new tab, it's easy enough. BeanZ!
