Soft skills, stamina AND beards - oh my! and vehicles - Well, that was enough Stable for me. Back to Experimental! -
I'm stuck, and I can't figure out how to get out
GaryWalnuts replied to ShadyOrb09's topic in Troubleshooting
Wow that's a tough spot, no sprint+pull the network cable for that one. Have you tried going prone and rolling? Maybe try running into each other and maybe getting a little push? Maybe punching or swinging a melee weapon? Maybe getting your buddy to punch you? If you can reach each other performing some animation on them? Tie hands with rope or force-feed maybe will get it unstuck? Try some character animations like F2, F3 etc? Throwing (G) something? Just some ideas to try to help yourself out. -

I remember reading somewhere that after the new player controller is implemented we'll get facial hair/beard growth over the lifespan of the character.

Alternative ways of storing water & simple backpacks.
GaryWalnuts replied to wojtek678's topic in Suggestions
I'd like to see more ways to carry water as well, I frequently see those 12 slot waterproof bags around and think "if it can keep water out why can't it keep water in?". I'd also like to see rain barrels become a thing in the future, something you can leave at your camp and let just nature take it's course. For now, the gasoline canister holds 25L and one water purification tab will make it all potable so that's a good choice for farming and drinking. You can also craft a water pouch but it's a good deal of work for half a liter of water, you're likely to find a canteen before you acquire all of the stuff to craft one. -
Sounds like it might be bugged hands, that has to do with client/server sync I believe (your client says you have the axe but the server disagrees). Try using g to throw to empty your hands and then try again. Also try animations like F1, F2 etc, that used to help clear your hands sometimes. Those purple and blue textures around leaf piles and debris piles have been reported but if you're seeing them elsewhere then it's probably worth reporting. I've also seen some bright blue-ish flashing in tree stumps until I get closer and then they render properly

Back in Exp... Dying of Hypothermia
GaryWalnuts replied to ShallowTech's topic in General Discussion
For staying dry, as opposed to getting dry: A drybag or sposn, a raincoat (or firefighters jacket) and any helmet in the game (minus the tanker helmet and welding mask) will keep you 100% dry from the rain, so you won't need shelter or a fire get warm/dry. With those you can stand out in the worst rainstorm and not get cold. Gorka though not 100% waterproof is a very good choice this patch against rainfall, plus the bonus of better camo and extra slots too. Pants don't seem to get damp in rainfall so any pants will do, but if you're going to go splashing through ponds and rivers then get yourself a pair of firefighters pants and welly boots and now you're waterproof from the waist down too. For swims even the best kit won't help much in the winter climate. I did my best "swim club" kit this patch and still was freezing when I got to Prison Island, which doused my plans to make a debug island swim. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't end well. Also, the white respirator mask is waterproof and gives a slight protection/insulation bonus (same for raincoat armbands), but most other masks that you can wear under a helmet will get damp - and dampness leads to coldness, etc. The same goes for gloves and glasses, maybe a bit of insulation/protection but a negative when it rains. (I think emuthreat wrung out a damp pair of rocket aviators last week - wait wut?) -
These map changes will bring back NEAF era emptiness of the west.

I routinely target car loot too, parking lots and checkpoints are on my usual routes. IMT and I found 2 UMP's (no mags) in one civilian car in the new Grozovoy Pass traffic jam (north of Tisy Town, almost to north debug). As far as I know there's no military loot spawns within 2 kilometers of those cars. So either that one particular car got mixed up in the CLE? - or an UMP got accidntally mixed into the civ class? - or what Hicks said about the infinitesimally small chance of finding an m4 in a shed may actually be a thing now? I suppose it's also possible that someone dropped them there but we got there in about an hour of the new patch dropping, and that one UMP was sitting perfectly in the trunk. It sure looked like it spawned there. -
All of those numbers are real world days and hours, not in-game time. As mentioned above everything is subject to change without notice.

Well that's a new one! Too bad you can't move around or that could be fun. Try PMing a forum mod and they'll contact a dev. They should be able to reset your character. I think all they need is your steam name & ID and possibly your ingame name. Make sure you tell them the last server you played on.
-
It'd be nice to be able to craft your own bolts too. Birch branch, stone tip and some chicken feathers for fletching.
-
I can't wait to see how these develop! Great status report. Keep up the good work devs!

As much as I enjoy a good camp horde I have to agree. I'd like to see (eventually) most items having a decay rate while in storage, and tents themselves decaying if they go unused for weeks, perhaps mil tents and car tents lasting a bit longer (and being more protective) than civ tents. Guns and ammo might begin to wear over the course of weeks after the tent itself goes from pristine-to-worn considtion. Unpreserved foods should spoil quickly and other biodegradables behave more appropriately. Unexpectedly coming across a long forgotten camp would add a bit more atmosphere into Chernarus too.

I'm afraid without banana holsters DayZ may never reach it's full potential.

If it keeps giving you trouble, have a look here: https://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/218z5m/simple_fix_if_you_cant_see_your_server_favorites/ You'll lose your favorites and history up to date, but it may fix the problem for the future

Hiya Morris, Whatever software got him banned in the first place - if it isn't removed completely - will probably get him banned again. So I would think that a full wipe & clean windows reinstall is the only way.

Maybe try resetting your filters? edit: and setting ping to 0 and see if they show up?

Reporting in. When the experimental updates were coming in with more regularity it seemed to keep both stable and experimental communities more engaged because the next leap forward seemed just over the horizon. I do remember a few updates ago devs had said the updates weren't going to come with the same frequency that they used to. They've stuck to that decision but waning enthusiasm is definitely a 'thing' now between builds. Seeing more of the progress that's being reported would help to keep everyone engaged, it does feel like the pot needs a stirrin' right about now. My overall interest in the game hasn't faded but my enthusiasm is definitely in hibernation mode now. That said, I'm still checking in almost daily to see if there's a new update (even though I haven't been logging in much) and I suspect there's many others doing the same.
-
Unless they have great loot I like to leave them untouched and check back regularly to see if they have anything new in stock. Taking a few bags of rice or silencer off of a pistol would only tip them off that someone has found their camp - and they pack it up. However, if someone sets up a camp too close to my own range I'll make it obvious that I was there, and typically they bug out after that

There's a lot of nuances to approaching other players with friendly intentions and even if you "do everything right" there's still a good chance it will end badly. On the other hand, things do work out well sometimes. After playing a while certain areas of the map will become familiar and your range will expand from there. You'll wander across some military installations and heli crashes and you'll quickly learn that they don't often bode well for friendly interaction because it's high-stakes for that high-end gear. And on that note, you'll die a thousand deaths so don't get attached to your gear. Take a deep breath, click respawn and make yourself a fresh new stone knife on the beach.

What location comes to mind when you think of DayZ?
GaryWalnuts replied to Tatanko's topic in General Discussion
In .59 I was holed up in the Northwest: Sinistok, Novaya Petrovka to Lopatino. It was good for hunting big game and helis both. For .60 I'm trying a different home in the Northeast. Krasnostav, Novo, Svetlo and Belaya Polana. There's not much big game in this range but clearing the zeds out of Novo and Svetlo can burn some ammo. -
In the last Status Report here Hicks said this about persistence Most items are 30 minutes. Barrels are 8 days Tents currently 45 Backpacks are 4 hours last I checked. He also mentioned that tents don't currently refresh their lifetime unless you pack/pitch, so it would seem we have 45 days to do that. Barrels seem to be working as intended, as long as you access them regularly their lifetime does refresh (I just move one item into a different slot)
