I have this sneaking suspicion this wasn't actually a little kid- any chance it just sounded like a little kid? I've come across this a couple times and I didn't realize it until later on that it's probably just a voice modulator that's changing the pitch of the voice. Sounds like a really young kid- follows you around asking for your help and then tries to kill you every time you turn your back. And it was right around Berezino the last time for me... closer to Elektro the last time. I actually wrote about "the kid" in one of my earlier stories- not sure if it was a boy or a girl- They were really nice at the time... but took it a little too far. I suspected something was up and didn't take my eyes off them. I was also a bit more kitted out. Anyway- sounds exactly like what ZH and I encountered a couple months back... really changed the way I looked at the game in general. Whoever it was hung around us for a bit... talking about how bored he was and stirring up trouble with us as described. Wouldn't leave us alone- just chased us around until finally I just gave up, bent down at a well to have a drink and he clobbered me with the pry bar.

Been out of the game for awhile so ZH and I dropped into the HB server (our old regular stomping ground) and figured out we were REALLY close to the NW airfield. We hadn't been in for awhile so it took us a bit to sort that out. There was the two of us and then two other dudes on there at the time so we hung around the fence for a bit watching for any movement and after about 5 minutes of not seeing anything we proceeded in. To our surprise the ATC and the fire station were loot spawn glitched but with rudimentary items. As we made our way past the first prison I noticed the glitch was still in session- nothing that we needed since we were both pretty tecked out already. I was looking for some new pants from a close encounter the last time we were playing (front end wrecked, not the back end lol). We made our way to the second prison and it seemed the effects of the loot glitch area had worn off- and we were talking about heading over to the tent camp to see what was going on there. We started moving down the stairs- Snap snap! "Was that you?" I said to ZH over my shoulder since he's sitting behind me in the same room. "No! No! There's a guy outside!" "Move into that bottom office-" He did and I could see his AKM at the ready. I was tucked in the corner under the stairs- we had that room well covered. I thought it might be worth lobbing a grenade around the corner using the walls to angle it but if my experience in pool has taught me anything it's that I can't angle worth #@@$. I didn't have many rounds left in my Aug- so I drew my Derringer instead and figured I'd get two heavy hits in on him at close range while ZH could feed him the good news with his 7.62. This guy came around the corner with a payday mask on... there was no call out... no friendly... no anything. He'd already shot at us for no reason so the safeties were off. Or were they? I took aim center of mass and pulled the trigger... Click. WTF. Click. Click click click click. FUCJ! "I'm out I'm out!" I said over my shoulder- sprinting past payday and around the corner. I glitch lagged into a wall so I was running in place for a split second before I got my bearings and headed for the door. A couple of shots... nothing hit me but I saw blood. No idea where ZH was- I was in full sniper shuffle towards the wall to the north. I ran past a shed- someone's in there! "Are you in the shed?" "No- I'm outside!" I look over the wall in 3PP and see ZH running south- then east towards the woods. "I'm chasing him! Hey!" he calls over chat. "Hey stop right now!" (I wouldn't have either but hey, worth a shot.) The guy disappeared into the woods. I kept my eye on the area and ZH stopped the chase. "No idea why my Derringer wouldn't fire?" I said as things slowed down a bit. I drew the Derringer again and checked to see it was loaded- which it was. Loaded, and ruined. Go figure... ZH was pretty shaken up. "I think I want to log out. I'm totally freaked out right now." ZH moved back towards me at a hole in the wall to the east- but then moved right past the hole that left him exposed to the trees. I was still behind my original wall cover... looking at him over the top through 3PP. "What are you doing? Get out of there! The guy is probab-" Snap! "I'm dead." "%#@$... DEAD dead or unconscious?" "It says 'you are dead.'" "Maybe he'll come and search your body..." Not 20 seconds goes by before I see payday crouched next to ZH. I only had 12 rounds left in the Aug and no idea if I was ever going to see a 5.56 round again but he had earned all 12. 2 in the head to get the party started- I took aim carefully and double tapped (I wasn't even 50 feet away) and he dropped like a wet post drinking binge deuce and a half. Then I ran up to him- fired the rest of the rounds into his face and then spent the next minute hitting him with an axe. I was sooooooooooooooooooooooo frustrated I wanted to chop a hole down to China through his chest. Rookie move- of course... since his pack was loaded with goodness and I'd essentially turned it all into a mutilated mess. Ruined... ruined... ruined. Ah! But his mosin is intact- I'll take that thanks. I checked ZH's stuff hoping I might be able to secure some of it for him but a bunch of it was ruined as well. I hid the bodies and moved off to the tent camp. ZH logged out and I tucked into a corner to do the same.

Just don't get how it is that I have to walk past food from a lack of space... and you can't find any? Not trying to poke at you but seriously- there can't be that big a difference between where we're looking... EDIT: Okay... went on a private server last night- couldn't find anything... anywhere. Public- no shortage of items anywhere. Connection? Perhaps?
-
Surprised that first headshot didn't finish him... seeing a lot of cases where you can stick a gun right in someone's face and stuff a bullet into his brain through his eye and still have him return fire. Weird. Nice work though- with extreme prejudice and violence! Thank you for doing it-

Couple other things I've noticed in my travels... - random noises now include an extremely repetitive punching air sound. - fires make a weird static impression on your back when your character is between your view point and the fire - zombies often make no noise whatsoever when chasing you - hitting a truck with a zombie frequently results in the zombie getting "stuck" in the truck somewhere and this causes repetitive breaking glass / headlight sounds. - the hit boxes around certain trees along the roads are enormous... I hit one at full speed (no tree in the middle of the road but yet I somehow smashed into something- beside a tree next to the road) and it knocked both front tires off and ruined my boots. Overall though- this has been my favourite patch to date. A few nagging issues with persistence etc but been really enjoying the increased difficulty with zombies and their more realistic detection calibration. Also very happy to see the loot more evenly distributed even if there are still the occasional gasm in police stations and other strange locations.
-
Only thing there is I think crafted versus not crafted items despawn faster... thought I'd read they are impacted differently.
-
Yes I concur- tents and backpacks are hit and miss (mostly miss in my experience but I'm seeing some guys say they have had better luck.) Pretty sure mine was on public that had "persistence off" from before- so I'm not sure if the bug involves "forcing" persistence on? I visit a private server that had persistence on pre .55- so if I find another backpack I'll test it out there and see if it works as intended.

I see a lot of people drinking back hydration status... Recommend you try iv saline if you have a friend to administer it. Not sure if you can self administer it in game. Worried about pond water now if that's actually implemented since we just drank some.

Not just on Wednesdays- though seems inconsistent and I'm not sure what the condition is. I've never seen an ammo box... But epi and morphine injectors aplenty. Not seeing matches... Now that you mention it not seeing med kits... But med supplies are everywhere. Saw my first .55 field shovel last night... I agree with your cooking items remark as well- haven't seen a tripod nor any cookware to speak of... "Look where you didn't used to" should be the new banner slogan for .55.

So... the last couple days eh? Well- pub side has been interesting. Met up with Schwab over by CE at the boundary of Berezino and within 5 minutes we encountered a relatively fresh spawn. He had a few things but nothing noteworthy. We're both pretty nicely kitted out- but we hail him from a distance and put him at ease. "Just looking for my friends and a new spawn- can you kill me?" Yup. Schwab has a few issues on his end with his screen capture software and it causes him to crash- I stand by his wandering ghost as he gets things fired back up again. By the time he gets back in another fresh approaches... turns out it's the same guy. Now- looking back in hindsight the whole transaction was pretty clear. "You sound familiar for some reason..." "Yeah- we just killed you." "Oh yeah... that's why. What's your name anyway- you sound like someone I know." I was doing most of the talking so I answered. Schwab was still in and out of logging with his tech difficulties. "Eno... " "Nope- not who I thought." "Okay- well you're fresh now... you want your stuff back?" Schwab had taken his mountain backpack from the guy's first life... "No that's fine... not planning on living this life too long." "Want me to kill you again?" "No that's fine... just looking for my friends." Weird- last time he was looking for his friends he wanted a respawn. Now he doesn't. Alarum bells. I'm POSITIVE I saw some movement in a field to the west... I see it- and watch it. The movement caught my eye but then stopped. I watched... writing it off as a roaming zed. A bit more small talk... about 5 minutes goes by and this guy is just casually chatting. "Hey-" he says, "I wanted to say thanks by the way... for being a "good" guy." "It's hard, you know... in this game. It doesn't often pay dividends." "I know-" He replies... sounded honest. "The last few times I've been nice I got killed." Alarum bells. Unheeded. Schwab gets back in but right at the time he's logging in- SNAP... SNAP- Fuck me- "Run- get some cover!" "Where'd the shot come from?" Schwab says- still paralyzed in his log-in. "No idea... moving into the mill... East! Dude-" I say in direct chat- "Get some cover." "Where are you? I don't know where you are-" Alarum bells- unheeded. "I'm in the wood pile... I think I saw the guy to the north. Outside the mill fence. Silence. "Okay I'm back in!" Schwab has started maneuvering in the mill... he's looking for me. "I'm about central- east of where you logged in." Gun shots... "He's in the mill... he just got me. Full face of shot gun it sounded like. I'm out." "Okay-" I keep moving north- I Saw some movement there and maneuvered around the fence. I got lucky. The shooter was standing on the opposite side of the fence. Fortunately we were BOTH able to take advantage of the "peek" feature in 3pp. I poked my head out and pushed some 5.45 into the side of his face. He drops. "I got one-" SNAP SNAP- Shots close aboard... A second shooter in the bushes just behind the guy I fed a green wiener. I put a couple rounds out but didn't have time to aim. Suppressing fire... flailing fire... only difference is in effect. "Hey man- where are you?" the familiar voice of our fresh rings out. "You ought to get some cover man..." He finds me. "I'm trying." He follows me. Alarum bells. Hello??? When am I going to just figure it out? Short version- I go running through a couple of wood piles and the shooter sees me. He clips me with an auto of some sort- I go unconscious. Dead. We were in fight club territory- I get it... we got bamboozled again- I'm still not feeling the badness... All that time with that character- but I have to be honest I've found SO MUCH gear in so many different places... I don't even care. All these guys talking about how there is NOTHING- it's very clear they're just checking the old HOT spots. Gear is LITERALLY EVERYWHERE. I don't care... Schwab and I log back into our common private server- but I don't have time to write about that...

Just had my first run in 55 with ZH and I must admit I'm suitably impressed! The zeds are much more agile now and more work to deal with and their detection isn't akin to an F22 Raptor. I haven't noticed things being as sparse as I've heard but then again we were in a relatively quiet server. I've read that persistence is locked on now so it sounds like a great reason to start gardening again. We haven't hosted Chez Eno for awhile since there was no reason to grow food for anyone. We had characters near the NWAF so we went there just to check things out. Within about 2 minutes of arrival we heard gunfire. ZH is a bit skittish for a variety of reasons so he wanted to pull back. We did and headed over to the vybor military base and to his delight we stumbled into a US crash site. He found some optics, a collapsible stock for an M4... and some ammo. He REALLY wants the M4 so I'm trying to help him find crash sites. Finding everything but at this point. Didn't stay in long. Might be on a rescue mission here soon for DaveB... who has recently reported his pub is near Berezino and freezing. If anyone is in that area with a pub and can give him a hand I know from experience that his gratitude often comes in the form of great loot!

I have had a reasonable experience in Musty so far- a few guys were surprised I was nice and I was equally surprised that some of them were nice. Ran into a couple of jagoffs but overall it's been a decent run with them. 95% of the jags were near Cherno / Elektro and one batch was in Ber.
-
Not been as active in the game lately... needed a bit of a break but came back at it with rejuvenated enthusiasm. Working my way east between Cherno and Elektro with a fresh in Musty. I'd found a raincoat and a sledge but other than that was pretty plain. Made it to Elektro and found one guy who told me to keep my distance as he pointed a shotgun at me. "I'm pretty leery of anyone right now... so if you don't mind go ahead and put your sledge away too." "Sure thing." I put my sledge away only to find my character automatically assumes a fighting stance. "Whoops- sorry about that... hate it when it does that." Then 2-3 zombies come from various directions and I'm dodging and weaving... "Go ahead and hit them with your sledge." Out comes the sledge... He obviously didn't want to shoot for fear of drawing attention. Smart! I flail a little but eventually knock them all down. "Okay, now where were we? I'm heading east, then up to the north... I just spawned in near Cherno and haven't really stopped to grab anything." I had a couple tins of food but no gear. "Need anything?" "Actually no... not really. Just want to keep pushing east." "Alright, well good luck out there. I'm going to continue west." We went our different ways and I felt comfortable not looking over my shoulder. Eventually I got to the town east of Elektro (Kamishovo) and ran into another survivor near the police station. "Eh there- How's it going?" "Good- but I'm dying of thirst. You got a soda or anything?" "No, to be honest... I have a couple cans of food that should help- some spag and some peaches but nothing to open them with. You have a screw driver or anything?" "No I don't... That's okay man I'll just keep looking-" "Well, wait a sec. I have a hatchet here. Let me try that out." I hacked the cans to pieces apparently- spilling just about all of it but leaving enough to take a dent out of his thirst. "Listen, I know this area a bit and there's a well right around here... around these next couple of buildings. I'm sure I can find it if you have a few minutes." "Okay... I'll stay close but I'm going to go check out a few buildings." I went on my search and almost immediately saw someone with a ghillie hood and a red (?) raincoat or something like that. Long rifle- not sure the kind... but he went to great lengths to avoid me seeing him sprinting out of sight. "Hey- ghillie guy!" I called out hoping he'd hear me. "I'm just hanging out man... I got nothing worth shooting me over." No answer. I ran to the road in the direction he was running in hopes that I could talk him out but didn't see him. I went back and found the well I was looking for. Nice! "Eh! Hey guy with the blue pack- you out there? Can you hear me?" Nothing. Then I saw him running along the tracks. "Hey man- I found it! It's right over here." "Oh wow man, thanks!" "Yeah, I knew it was over here somewhere. There's a guy running around with a ghillie hood so you might want to be careful but-" SNAP You are unconcious. "HEY WHAT THE FUCK MAN! WHY'D YOU DO THAT!?" the guy I was helping (trying to help) was not pleased. A different voice said a few words I don't remember- there were a couple other shots. "Why'd you kill him man... why? He didn't do anything?" YOU ARE DEAD "Sorry buddy." (not sure who said that... wasn't the guy I was helping- that's all I knew) So that's me back on the beach- same spawn point as before. Sigh. Running back through Elektro with nothing- kind of hoping to run into the guy I was helping again and thank him for speaking in my defense. I picked up a zombie conga line in hopes that if I ran into someone I could just deploy the line on them and give me a chance to escape. I had 4 guys in tow when I came across another survivor with a long rifle. Pretty sure it was in fact the same guy who killed me. I zig zagged a bit, looped around to reassemble my troops and get them in a nice little cluster, then headed back towards the guy with the gun. SNAP You are dead. You're an idiot... but nice shot I guess. Anyway- grew tired of that. Went back to a pub that was in my history (persistence on I think)... found that I was to the west of the NWAF. I think DaveB and I ended up in that area together at some point but it was about 10 minutes behind from where we'd actually left the game during a reset. Weird. Made my way solo to the NWAF hoping to pick up a scope or some binoculars since I was already pretty well kitted out thanks to some supplies Dave had handed over. I made my way to the north side towards the tents- taking some good time to keep an eye open for movement. I came in along the north wall, under the fence sort of near the entrance gate. I saw a zombie standing there at the gate which I took to be a good sign. I slowly stood- heard the zombie launch at what I assumed was me... SNAP SNAP SNAP- zing! zing! Jesus! Here we go again. I tap danced my way around the incoming and bolted to the east towards cover. I performed some rigorous switchbacks between trees, looking for those that provided the best concealment. Once I was sure I'd broken contact, I kept running for another couple hundred meters, found a dip in the terrain and took shelter under a pine tree that had branches that went to ground towards the direction of the threat (that I knew of.) I stayed there- motionless... double alt tap- moving head only. I heard another couple shots coming from the direction I came... Waited. Caught movement directly west- I think it was my pursuer running back from chasing me... or someone else entirely. More shots. Silence. More movement! This time to the west but running south. Zombie in pursuit of something- not sure what. SOOOOOOOOOOO confused. I waited another couple minutes to see what was going to shake out. Nothing. I switched off my "bitch" mode and decided it was time to go on the offensive. To be honest, I initially started running east away from danger (or towards it? At this point I didn't know) but decided to turn around and carefully make my way back to what was clearly an ambush site. I made my way up the NE corner of the airfield and tent camp, cut across the road there that leads up the hill, then came back down. In my travel I'd heard one more shot that helped me confirm that someone was in that area... I took up a protected and somewhat elevated position and watched. I did see some movement on the other side of the airfield up the hill on the west side but lost it pretty quickly. Nothing obvious was working in the tent camp. Did I have the best vantage point? Maybe? I'd never posted around the airfield before so I wasn't sure... I knew I had to check it out since if that was THE BEST area to see into the tent camp- there was a very, very good chance that someone else would be dropping in on me shortly. I moved around the area cautiously, gaining confidence as the server pop dwindled. Funny enough it seemed to coincide with the shots being fired. One person after another were leaving... but one familiar name remained. I worked my way around to the north but found the elevation was too low to see over the wall. I returned to my initial vantage point. Server pop had completely dropped off. I waited another minute to ensure my immediate area was clear and logged. I felt like I'd been engaged at some level or another for 10 minutes of intense action but over an hour and a half went by. Oh yeah... THAT'S why I love this game!

I prefer to be a nice guy- but when people play like that I've found that I take exquisite pleasure in the murder. I get it, now... when people say not to trust anyone... Doesn't mean I'll kill everyone I see on principle... But I will go to great lengths to help them survive. If they want to fight... fight is definitely on. I'll probably shoot myself in the arm first... fortunately I have friends that can help me compensate. Schwab was an awesome supporter throughout this event... there to cover me when I needed help and to make noise when it mattered. Sorry for my foul tongue... We'd just come away from someone who took a poke at me and then wisely ran away after a minute of taunting so I had transcended into intolerance mode. A mode I've been finding is much easier to achieve having come across a much broader variety of people in this game since I started. I still want to be good- but now I'm finding the people I encounter need to earn it. I've killed my first person- it's no longer a benchmark... it's not an accomplishment to have gone so many hours without killing someone. Two days ago I killed someone in a shot point blank when they ran into a police station / prison house with their axe drawn having arrived via a truck in Berezino- They ran in the door with their axe up... I shot... Sorry bud- nothing personal but really not the place for a conversation. A couple days before that I encountered someone in a very similar situation in Gorka... less charged but he had a long rifle and I was pretty well equipped and feeling a little sensitive about my gear. I had entered the carousel up top and saw him approach so I quickly moved into the second floor room to the right when you go up the stairs and closed the first door, then the second and waited. Waited for what? An opportunity to disarm? An opportunity to protect myself? That remained to be seen... I waited... and waited... I can hear him downstairs and he is eating and drinking. I wait. My angle isn't the best so I move a couple steps- did he hear me? Did he see me when I saw him? Is he calling his buddies? Is an ambush being set up outside? Is a grenade going to fly in the window? So many questions. I wait- but oh my GOD did I want to leave after the first minute. He's probably gone now- or he logged... or he's talking to his buddies. Crap. I go out now and he could be waiting for me behind that door. And speaking of that door what way does it open? Where should I be aiming? Door is going to open- is he going to be in the door frame? Is the door going to open towards me and force me to adjust to the right? Not sure... for the life of me I can't remember in or out?! Crap. Then I hear it- the first door to the original room opens... I'm busy making sure I remember- thumb activation is talk... index finger activation is shoot... Do I wait until I see him and then shoot? Do I talk... What long rifle does he have? Am I a one shot... Was it an axe? Is he a threat? Is he a threat? Gorka... probably not- but police / prison... maybe. Some good stuff in here- I grabbed most of it already but I know why he's here. He's probably not here to make friends. He's probably here to get some stuff that he can load into a thing that he can transfer into my head via means that are directionaly explosive. Then again- I'm a good guy and I've got an AKM pointed at the door. The second door opens- and I'm glad to report my thumb jumped to the challenge just as the character appeared around the corner at a slow crouch. "Put your gun down! Put your fucking gun down right now or I will shoot-" There was a very slight pause and the character backed off... to wait for me to come after him with weapon drawn? To back away from the grenade coming in the window? To initiate the assault with folks who had automatic weapons? I wasn't sure. "Hey- I was just looking around... I don't want any trouble. I'm leaving." Now I felt bad- "Wait a sec... I'm just defensive right now. If you want a fight you will get it but frankly I just want to get out of this room. I saw you approach and needed to defend myself since I saw you had a gun." "I'm heading west- what about you?" "Generally East... back to Berezino. I'm not in here to PVP- I try to help people..." As I exited the building I saw the character was in fact outside already. I cautiously moved around him. "I didn't know you were outside already... there is some stuff in there worth getting and I invite you to. I will carry on my way." "You made me panic in there- I couldn't remember how to drop a weapon or put it away so I just backed off. Thanks for not trying to kill me-" "Thanks for not forcing me to." I carried on my way to Chez Eno... Where I looked forward to meeting my friends Schwab, ZH and DaveB
-
Alrighty boys... get comfortable. Grab a drink... It's been interesting out there! Was running around a pub last night hoping to hook up with Schwab and DaveB. I was hanging around what we're referring to as CE for a bit but didn't have a lot of activity there even though the server was half full. Schwab was in another pub and sprinted WAY north to meet up with me- I mean, he was down at the prison island... so I figured I'd be a gentlemen and at LEAST go so far as to meet him in Nizhnoye (a 4 minute run max). I know, I know... I'm very considerate that way. I ran into town and was looking around for some odds and ends killing time when I bumped into a fresh. I was pretty soft looking but I had some decent gear. I think by now most of the people who read this thread know my "hey how are ya" routine and this one went reasonably well. "I just got back into the game and haven't been around for a few updates. Been playing Arma3 and stuff-" "Okay, fair enough- maybe I can help you out a little. You've obviously just spawned in so you're going to be hungry and thirsty. There is a well just on the other side of this orchard. Follow me there and I'll pass over some food as well." We headed in across the tracks for about a minute and arrived at the well. There I handed him my canteen- "This will speed it up for you, but I'm going to ask that you give it back." Schwab and I were talking on steam chat so he could hear me. "What's going on? You okay?" "Yeah, the guy seems okay. He's saying all the right things." The guy mentioned that he was waiting for his friend to run down from "some place with a canal" that we took for being Svet. "Well I have a friend coming up from the south and he's pretty teched out... how about you let us escort you past Berezino and we'll hook you up with your friend?" "You would do that? That's pretty cool- sure!" While we were sitting around the well he was talking about some of the features he remembered and I talked to him about some of the new functions. "In particular, you HAVE to craft yourself a stone knife." I pointed to the stony terrain around the house. "You can search for them here- but it might take you a couple tries. Make sure your hands are empty- then you might need to move your scroll wheel." He looked a couple times and didn't find anything, so I passed my raw stone (used to sharpen my fire axe) and told him to craft it by pointing down at the same ground with the stone in his hand. "I crafted it, but then it disappeared. I don't have it anymore." "0456. Yeah, it's a bug... a known bug." I just gave him my crafted stone. I was running out of slots anyway and had more veg than I knew what to do with. He was very appreciative. That made me feel all warm and smooshy so I looked through my inventory and found something I wasn't sure I'd ever use. "Well, here we go," I said over steam chat without toggling the direct chat mic. "Here we go what?" "I might be dead in a minute. We'll see." I toggled the mic. "Hey man... look- you seem pretty decent and you could probably use this more than I can." I dropped a Longhorn and some ammo. "Seriously? Hey thanks man..." Scwhab was in my ear instantly. "What did you give him?!" "Longhorn and ammo." A laugh was his response. "Well thanks for the gun but I can't fit it in my gear with the food... and I need the food- but I'm stuffed and energized. How about you take it back?" "Um, okay- I can do that." "Do what?" Schwab wanted to know. "He just gave me the gun back..." We'd found a good one. Schwab closed the distance pretty quickly and by the time we'd had a chance to introduce one another the server reset. I came back in back on the road (about 1 minute behind where we'd ended up), Schwab was in a tree line to the south and I almost instantly bumped into a fresh with a crowbar. I thought it was our guy- but he had a different colour skin. "Hey man thought you were someone else. I can see you have a weapon but I'm going to ask that you not draw it. I'll keep my distance and lower mine." He didn't draw, and I lowered my repeater. "Did you hear gun shots?" "I just got in here- I didn't hear anything." Snap snap snap- "Holy Shit... let's go!" To Schwab: "Bud we're taking fire- no idea where from-" Fresh and I took some cover behind an E-building of some sort... "I'm coming- I'm at please wait." I looked around in 3pp over and around to try to spot some movement- SNAP. That got my attention... "Jesus... seriously?" I turned to face fresh and he was slumping over, dead. "Fuck this I'm out of here!" I sprinted across the road in an evasive pattern and ended up by the docks. "I'm coming! I'm at the fence by the docks- I see you, to your left... no- other left. See me?" "Yeah, I see you now... no idea where these guys are." Meanwhile DaveB has joined and he doesn't have a mic. I get behind cover and warn him that we're taking fire. "I'm in position east of you- other side of the fence closer to the water." I scanned over the fence in 3pp... there was suddenly a LOT of movement in Nizhnoye and coming out of the treeline. "I've got movement... Ghillie hood- all armed coming towards you. 3...4...5 guys at least." The resident clan guys were in the server and we're kind of thinking it was them. "They're close to you- other side of the fence!" I moved to the break in the fence and started to lean out and go 1pp to start shooting to cover him. CLEARLY in vain but I couldn't just watch this go down. "Get your hands up- get your fucking hands up!" They ran around the corner- Schwab opened up with his M4 and turned the first guy into a Tetley teabag... I started shooting but I'm not sure if I was hitting anything- they had just dog piled on him so I did the best I could in my first real PVP engagement that didn't involve me shooting someone in the back while he ran away. Suffice to say I have a feeling that the section of the fence behind where all the action was probably had to respawn down in Cherno because of me. That makes two of us... "I'm dead- they got me," Schwab said as I looked at my own "You are dead" screen. "You know, I don't think they even knew I was there. I think they were coming after you." Then I knew it was on me to spin this into a 6 on 1 where I was hopelessly outgunned and doomed no matter what I did. Yeah, that's right... maybe try to distract the reader away from the fact that I actually just suck at shooting things except perhaps against targets of the bovine variety (before .54). I did, in fact, spawn back in at Cherno quite close to Schwab but we were quite a distance from DaveB. I made my way towards Elektro and when I got about halfway there I found a few houses that I recognized from a story a couple weeks back (the guy running after me wanting me to kill him). I scanned them quickly but came out to find a shotgun pointed at me. "Put your hands up and get on the ground." I got my hands up but in the moment forgot I needed to actually crouch after that... there's no dedicated F button for it. "I'm trying but it won't let me crouch." "Okay well just keep your hands up. Where are you going?" "My friend and I just got whacked- I think he spawned in by Berezino (from our conversation on Steam)... we're not sure. I'm heading east and then back up north." "Did you search these houses?" "Briefly, yeah- I'm just looking for food and water at this point. I think I'm running enough to stay warm." "Come into this house with me. I think you're a nice guy but come into the house." Nice as in polite or nice as in delicious, I wondered. I hadn't ever been a part of some sick cannibal activity- a few traps but nothing really unsightly and gross. Maybe this will be a first? I proceeded carefully but couldn't help but start hoping for a respawn closer to Schwab and DaveB. I got in the house, and he closed the door. Now is when the group of dudes dressed in checkered skirts come down throwing human steaks at me while playing Alice Cooper in the background on Direct Chat and... "You've been a nice guy- I can tell you're a good person so I'll help you out." Food... bandages... cans of pop. "Pick a colour, orange or yellow." Orange or a banana maybe? "Orange please." An orange raincoat dropped on the ground in front of me. "Wow man- thanks. I do try to be a good person-" "You get much farther being a good person than a bad person in DayZ." I wasn't sure I agreed with him but I knew what he was saying and it has admittedly worked out for me pretty well so far. Schwab piped up. "I'm actually also near Cherno- definitely. Where are you?" I had mixed up Cherno and Elektro since I have seldom ever been in that area... we sorted it out and I figured he was quite close. "Hey man- thanks for all the help but you should know my friend is closer than I thought... he's at Cherno- so if he stumbles into us just know he's a good person and doesn't want any trouble." "Alright well I'm not holding you hostage so go ahead and meet up with him. Be safe out there- I'll keep my eye open for you but just know I'm working in this area." "I'll do it- thanks again and good luck!" (I have to run- but the most unbelievable thing happened to me at the end of this story so I can't wait to get it out there. I hope there's a lesson here for ALL of you!)

You should be able to considering saline is just salt water- there are no nutrients onboard.

Pretty sure that's an American chopper. Seem to recall the American ones smoke and the Russian ones do not- not to mention the very distinctive profile of Russian choppers.

Had a bit of a misfire night last night- in a couple of different ways. Went to try to get on Musty but it was 50/50 for so long DaveB and I finally headed into a public server with decent performance that we'd been in. We went around Ber looking for burlap sacs and he found one but I didn't find any. Server pop was a bit stagnant and we hadn't seen anyone for about half an hour. The server crashed / reset so we took a chance and tried loading into Musty- managed to for about 2 minutes before it crashed. Plan B brought us back to our original public server and though we started out slow things started to pick up as we moved through a Berezino that was fresh with new Zombies. Dave wanted a vest so we went about finding some cows to shoot. And as a note to Devs- whether they actually read these or not- holy cow (pardon the pun.) As soon as they get sight of you (even if they're only a few pixels in size) they start maneuvering at full gallop. Need to dial that back a bit. Eventually shot one after a little zed drama- then after another reset / crash we found another. EVENTUALLY we crafted a vest for him (which I'm hoping they give us an opportunity to paint sooner than later.) HOWEVER... Somewhere in the middle of killing the cow and making a vest out of it, my friend Dave consumed "Cow Steak" straight out of the cow. Talk about rare blue rare! "My steak didn't come out raw." "It doesn't say raw anymore... just says cow steak." "Uh oh- because I ate some. Says I have a strange taste in my mouth." "5417." We raced back to Chez Eno to try and keep him sustained and hydrated as he plummeted through the different stages of food poisoning. Got him some stuff to drink... he ate... Asked about throwing up but I was under the impression that wouldn't work. He stuffed a pumpkin in his face... got over stuffed and promptly threw up. "It doesn't say sick anymore- but I'm still nauseous. Want to go to the hospital? I can't see colours." "Let's check the clinic first- it's closer... then we'll go to the hospital." "Okay." We headed over to the clinic sans drama- "I'm starting to feel unsteady," I think was his next stage. I stood by outside for a few minutes as he looked around but after not hearing from him for a couple minutes I went inside. A quick look around inside and I see him type there was nothing in there that we could use. I come running around the corner towards the entrance and bump into him at the EXACT time he unloads a technicolour yawn all over my lap. I mean it was just dead on balls... steak and peaches turned my Gorkas into a bib. I'd have been invisible on a backdrop of puke. "You are slowly warming up." Gross. We ran towards the hospital without further delay and encountered a number of zombies along the way. Good sign- meaning we were the first through. However, as we got closer to the hospital we realized the server pop was way up from where it had been before. Time to exercise a bit of caution- but not too much. Searched the hospital... found some antibiotics- not sure if that was going to work but we tried. Looking for a saline / IV starter kit... No joy in the hospital. Scanning the area around the hospital we split up to make the search a little more efficient. "I'll take this side and you take that side." Building to building- nothing remarkable but I eventually lost site of Dave. "Where are you?" "Plaza with the tank." "Rgr." I come out to the open space behind the hospital with the tank and see Dave standing right where he said he was and I approach to talk to him and figure out a path forward. The shotgun blast took us by surprise and if I know Berezino that was exactly the intention. Neither of us got hit but we both ducked for cover. I had no idea where it had come from but was relieved to hear the shotgun as opposed to an M4 or something with an equally rapid rate of fire and a range greater than 10 feet. How do you duck out of sight when you don't know where the shot came from? We did our best. I headed through a breezeway to the east and came back up around another side of the plaza and caught movement in the corner of my screen as I settled in. A character was running in the opposite direction with what I could only assume was a shotgun. I did a quick double check the guy didn't have a yellow backpack (that Dave had)- took aim with my repeater from a crouched position... made easier by the fact that he was almost running straight away from me- And pulled the trigger. I've pulled on other people before- one was ZH (by accident) and the other turned out to be Hatz (by accident). This was different. We'd been shot at for no reason other than the fact that we were a pair of guys in Berezino (and often that's reason enough, I know.) I had the last laugh when I saw a little red splash as my cherry burst all over this guy's back- I kept my eye on the building and Dave came over to back me up. He was going to try and flank but there were so many places to hide or exit (2 story one with the restaurant / bar downstairs- curtained exit) I didn't want to risk splitting up with him since he was still seeing all grey. We stuck together and gradually worked our way around. We heard a few more shots but no snaps... we never did see the guy again. We did, however, find a saline bag and IV starter kit in a first aid bag in the area and I was able to get Dave healing again to face another DayZ.

There was a bug where your screen would stay blurry immediately after being hit by a zombie. No matter how serious it went Insta blurry. You could go to configure video all the time to remedy this temporarily. That resulted in advice to turn off post processing and that worked to eliminate that problem specifically.

I don't think I saw this anywhere- but I think it might make sense to be able to paint our leather clothing / vest etc... same way you'd paint a mosin. Black is black... but green first and black second could do the varied DPM style... It could also fade as it goes through worn / damaged etc and need to be reapplied. I'm assuming of course that we can't already do this?

Had my first .54 in game experience this morning after work. Things were very quiet so I was able to run around unmolested. A couple things I noticed in my relatively short in game period was that animals are on crack. Running around in circles at mach speed- cows... pigs... by the time I see them they are already tweaking and on a road to nowhere fast. I also saw a bit of a performance downgrade on my gaming laptop system... a few people have mentioned it elsewhere. I didn't have any crashes but was only on for about an hour to put some miles on and get some hardware for future efforts to protect and escort / assist freshies and other non combatant survivors. I think we're looking towards the Musty server to settle in- so if you can see it and you've read stories in here that make you think you'd like to get onboard with a similar initiative together then please drop me a PM and we'll connect with other members through Steam. I don't see a lot of videos that are less than a year old that show larger groups (3-6) doing good instead of evil... Let's make some.

Guide to etiquette? How to be new right?

And time spent typing is time spent not sniper shuffling back and forth, shooting or diving for the nearest cover. -
Sounds like you have post processing turned on in your configuration. Go into your video and turn that off- it'll resolve. This in particular if you get hit. If you are losing blood and losing health your screen will start to go grey...
