Someone pointed out a map image that shows you can't go south of Elektro... It was all downhill from there. This guy is just full of interesting little snipets. With that said I haven't touched a compass since the mid .4x builds since fixed isn't always fixed and can result in an enormous waste of time.

This must be after you unlock your server and let others in... Having collected all the gear you want in advance. You guys are pretty amazing! #envyof1337skilz

A nice session last night with a new comrade on our new 1/3PP Pub server. Welcome aboard ColdAtrophy! Very casual loot accumulation since many of the server hoppers have not yet got the server in their sights yet. A few randoms dropped in as we were heading through checking out various landmarks and areas of interest. Had some massive desync with the truck, however... I'm not sure if anyone caught it on video or not but imagine being on a rollercoaster- and at some point in that ride you fall asleep but the dream immediately takes off from where you left off in your conscious mind. You take a hard corner and the track fails- the car and everyone in it are on a one way trip to the great beyond. Snap back to reality and the roller coaster is grinding up the next part of the track... perfectly intact. Comes over the highest point and starts screaming down the rails- but you don't know that you actually fell asleep again and started dreaming as you were on the ascent... You approach the turn at the bottom of the vertical drop and plummet right through the base of the track- people are screaming in fear with their last dying breath... Wide awake! All is calm- the coaster made the turn and is now approaching the loading platform to offload you and your group and take on another load of anxious passengers. Suddenly and unexplainably the coaster speeds up and while doing so jerks off the tracks and thunders through the line of happy onlookers- mowing them down like grass. Oh the carnage! Oh the humanity! You snap out of your cat nap and step casually off the coaster with your buddies and head down to the nearest concession- memories of your recent ride swirling around in your head. You order a Pepsi and take no small pleasure in hearing the crack of the can followed by the characteristic fizz of the carbonated beverage as it is handed over to you. Ah! The first pull on that crisp, dark liquid is always the finest. The cool, sharp fluid bubbles across your tongue into your parched throat. You run the frosty can across your forehead- but before you are able to take another long drag you realize it's not a Pepsi at all! It's PIPSI! The lines of reality and "RealiZ" have been permanently blurred... Nevermore will I ever be able to tell if I'm actually in the middle of an unsettling vehicle roll over or just springboarded into parallel realm from which I will rubberband at the mercy of rogue data packets. It was kind of funny because Schwab and I were both affected by this phenomenon as ColdAtrophy navigated his way through the various roads and hazards of Cheranus. "We're fine... everything is fine," he'd say as Schwab and I bounded unceremoniously between universes. What he forgets is that before any of this happened he flipped us over while driving down the runway at the NWAF... "It was the trailer hitch looking thing, I swear! The one on the side of the runway." Oh is THAT all? Okay then! Home Jeeves! Our truck laid there like a beached Grey Whale with Dave still inside since he'd had to go AFK. The rest of us were able to amble out of our wounded steed. Cold and Schwab took a quick moment to run through a few nearby buildings. I pop checked and noticed a transient was among us so given that we were at the NWAF I took up a defensive position around the truck while they looted. I caught an ever-so-subtle glimpse of movement in front of the truck about 100m from my spot. "Are you guys in the field right now? In front of the truck?" "No-" "Pretty sure someone's here-" I said... no scope so unable to zoom in on the location. "We're coming!" Cold and Schwab instantly came rushing over and I tried to better describe the location. Cold offered to draw some fire to see if we could flush this pigeon out of hiding but saw nothing. "Maybe he logged?" I pop checked and the transient was gone. We spent some more time touring the map and looking for base camp areas. Given that we're "in tight" with the server host and have great confidence in the state of persistence it's a little easier to invest the time in setting it up properly.

I made a fireplace at night, then everything goes black?
eno replied to Mark88's topic in General Discussion
This is an example of what you'll see. The seat of the fire is visible (it had burned all the fuel)- but it blackens everything around you completely. You can't see anything. We had a lamp positioned on the street outside of the church we were in... and this is what remained: Don't have a video now but I'll do one and submit as suggested. Just wanted to post so others know it's a similar issue if they see it. -

I think it's WAY overdone right now- just happened to us in my last session. If you're in a lit room, that lit room isn't going to go black. I get it if you go from a light area to a dark one you get some light blindness... but being blind while you're practically standing in the fire- Nah. -
I thought it was from when he ran out of the comedy club...

Server hosts resetting persistence- whenever they feel like it.
eno posted a topic in General Discussion
Some of you may have seen I got a bit of a burr up my ass over this issue yesterday and I am still annoyed by the fact that there is really nothing stopping them from doing it... It likely can't even be reported since it doesn't technically break any rules (that are written that I have found anyway). Everything about persistence we've been looking forward to is compromised in the absence of some sort of protection from it. When we're getting kicked out of public servers on joining, or public servers are locked we're able to submit a ticket to the provider... there's SOME recourse and deterrence involved. Private guy runs his shard like "turd island" (as it was put to me in another thread) and decides he wants to reset persistence every time the loot table isn't to his liking... So long base camp. Guess what? Too bad. So now that hosts can wipe persistence at their leisure... what on earth is the point of persistence? I can hear it now: "Well if you don't like it- host your own server." Well... we're already way ahead of you in that regard. My point is that everyone who wants to have a "persistently" stable and reliable experience shouldn't have to drop 60 bucks a month to have their own safe haven from asshats. For those of you looking for a reliable place to stash your stuff... stay tuned. Will rules alone ensure that random and frequent resetting doesn't happen- goodness no... But at least making it an "offense" can help to reduce the occurrence and give those who simply had no reason NOT to do it before a reason. How are you guys dealing with this? What is your secret? Got a list of reliable servers you trust? Maybe this is a good place to put it. -
Nice vid Ronfox... Have to admit if I'd never seen ya if you were following me around like that I'd be a bit suspicious... Then again if I just talked to you like a normal person and not some hopped up wanabe I'm sure the transaction would be painless.

We're actually looking for a good 1PP to do an "all natural" hunting expedition... Bam and Dave are more east side but if the ping looks good then you may see us in there soon! -
This is interesting since it mimics a bug that was often pointed at invisible zombies or invisi-hackers... Makes me wonder if this is pre-existing. I've never seen a desync like that before but I can imagine it would cause a lot of frustration on the receiver.

Ok, so all that seems to happen in this patch...
eno replied to Shiva_O's topic in General Discussion
This kind of garbage needs to be addressed. Funny that you say your server information is no longer available in your signature "because it's so busy." Wouldn't want someone ghosting and killing you that's for sure... then what? Wipe your server to bring everyone back to zero so you can lock the door and start all over again? What is your server name anyway? I want to stay the fuck away from it. -
I have noticed a few textures look like they have a layer of ice on them but knowing this will change I don't want to sound critical of it- purely an observation. I have had a relatively smooth experience so far though. I like the increased challenge but am disappointed about hearing of continuing loot spawns of high speed gear. I'm eating apples to stay alive while the next guys children will have 4 shoulders each having evolved from the need to carry so many AKs. Don't get me wrong we'll tap the resource as well if it's out there but I'd be content if it was less available.

I had a day unlike many in the past... not a ton of action but just enough to keep me interested. My introduction to .58 was not that for many others... Spawned in Svet and spent a bit of time running around looking for food taking for granted that if I look in some of the under appreciated buildings that I shouldn't have too much trouble. I knew where the water wells were since Svet was a common ground for us during .57 but food was really nagging at my stomach... it was grumbling violently- a lot. Building after building- some clothes but no food. Some pipsi / kvass but nothing to eat. Through dark brown hungry to red starving... nothing. I bump into DaveB on steam and he suggests I check the train for food. Good suggestion- since I ended up finding a few cans to get me through the next 20 minutes or so. I got a few basic items and a shottie with no ammo then set on my way up to Olsa. Schwab joined in around that time and we met DaveB in Novo. On our way back east towards Svet we decided to head into Turovo and see what we could dig up there. Unremarkable. Dave ended up having to log so Schwab and I headed up to Dobroe. We leapfrogged house to house through town... "Is that you?" Schwab asked me over steam. Before I could answer he blurted out, "Hey- wait... there's a guy in here!" I charged over to the next house on the block and could hear the other guy over game chat. "Hey man- don't shoot... I'm friendly." Sure you are pal. I stepped inside with my shottie on my shoulder. Not a bad time to mention I'd found some ammo for it. I came around the corner to see a guy with a balaclava on in mostly dark attire, glasses and a hat with a knife in his hands. "Just building up a new character looking for stuff... I won't be any trouble." He sounded uber casual but we were on edge a bit since uber casual usually means the person knows their 10 best friends with guns are bearing down on us anyway. "Okay man well we're working our way around this area seeing what we can find... we'll leave you alone." He went on his way and we bumped into him a few times around town. It was raining on and off throughout and eventually schwab and I got soaked. We mutually decided to try out one of the house fireplaces. The other guy was nearby so we invited him in to dry off. His warning bells must have been ringing very loud indeed- but he accepted the offer. At that point OUR warning bells were going off as well. But there was no drama. He'd been in the game since the mod... just chatted and shared some food. He had a shottie with no ammo so I gave him some... REALLY rolling the dice on that I admit but I figured Scwhab could change his oil if things went sideways. We dried off and once again went our separate ways until DaveB logged back in and said he found a truck in the next town to the south. Again we ended up with our new friend (Named "DigitalClepto" I think) and I invited him to join us. Scwhwab had to log off so Clepto and I carried on to Karmanovka. Eventually we found Dave for some introductions but were missing a glow plug for the truck. Clepto didn't have a bag so Dave took him over to one he'd seen and then went to find a plug. "There's another guy here," Dave typed on steam since he was in stealth mode at home. I headed over towards them and found Dave crouched beside a wall. I couldn't see anyone else- Clepto was jogging down the road a bit so I picked some cover in middle ground and searched for the guy Dave had seen. He was busy so couldn't type out a location... There was no sound from the shot that took out Clepto- he just suddenly laid down dead. I heard subsequent shots so I started maneuvering wildly. I was hearing the shots and the snaps but I was close enough to Dave that I'm not sure who was being shot at. I heard one REAL close to me so I was pretty sure I was getting at least some attention. I lost Dave in the swirl but I saw him type "He got me- I'm badly injured." I took cover and looked around- eventually seeing at least one guy running through the woods away from us. He doubled back and came back in towards town. I got a couple shots off at him but then lost him around a house. I don't think I hit him- but we never heard anything from him again. So Clepto... if you're out there man- VERY sorry that it ended like that but if you see our names in server again at least know you've got 3 friends in there!

Agreed. Bandits and murderers are different. Then again you could engage like a bandit and still have to kill someone.

Reminds me somewhat of this video- promoting other gameplay styles and taking people out of their comfort zone to enhance their experience... Not my video- it's Toperek's... another forum guy many of you likely know.

When I started playing I had a really scary geared guy drop all his kit and let me take what I wanted as a reward for "not being a dick." These guys are out there- but you need you be very, very careful what you assume.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. Beans.

This is definitely a direct route to getting killed without question... And the ghillie doesn't work at all at ranges over about 100m... which is where most detection occurs. You're just a black blob on a tan surface overlay struggling to see through grass that doesn't actually render past that distance. His whole strategy takes you through some of the most KOS / PVP areas on the entire map so in general I'd disregard the entire post. I agree with most of the others suggesting a jaunt inland to some of those towns and have the crafting wiki in your back pocket. Find a water hole... find a well on one of the maps and go to it. Craft a stone knife so you can get into the abundance of canned food still out there. Try to find something warm so you're not constantly having to run and wear out your energy / hydration or at least learn how you can easily start a fire with some bark (cut off a tree) and a stick (cut off a tree)... There are burlap sacs in those longer wood sheds with the open door- along with rope needed to craft a carrier bag. This can be upgraded to a modified carrier bag with some sticks you can gather with your crafted knife. It's nice and low profile and has enough space to carry a few items. If you see someone with a gun out as mentioned I'd be beating cheeks the other direction. If you don't have anything in your hands you should be able to run just a little bit faster than the guy with the gun. If you're going to carry a weapon I recommend you choose one that you can hide in the pack. A sub gun or a sawed off shottie are popular choices... but the shottie practically needs to be stuck into a persons belly to have any effect.

Fair enough!

Best place to put story posts is in the "how was your dayz" forum... always looking for good diaries! As for this- at the end of your post you say you're looking for people to play with. And that sounds pretty much like fodder for a recruitment thread. With respect- remember what you post before you dismiss advice.

Awesome... neat to see a connection to reality!

Tag & Release – Hardcore – Captured an armed player peacefully, but it turns out he has a friend [5:14]

Agreed. Makes me realize we need to start handcuffing / tying up people more often instead of turning our backs. The keep counting in direct chat is also an excellent idea... beans for that. -
lol went to edit my post from last night and hit "quote" instead without really realizing it... Was in "rage-dicky" mode last night before I logged off and wanted to go clean that up before the mods came in with the ban hammier.

Jesus... everything is just KOS central now. My give a damn is pretty much busted- Very few people worth helping... most come into the game looking to kill someone. Well- actually, everyone. Very frustrated... only reason I'm playing right now is Bam and DaveB. Time to find a group of older gentlemen and merge them with Triarii... Enjoy the company to facilitate enjoyment of the game as it figures out what it's going to be.
