    Base Builder Challenge

4 barrels and a bunch of boom sticks laying around is a base? All your base are belong to us. No offense but anyone with one brain cell less than a plant could hide those things in a back yard and they'd be hard to find. Thinking you're "testing your hiding skills" with those mediocre items "around the NWAF" (which is a couple kilometers long) is like me proving how great I am in bed in a whorehouse in Amsterdam with a fistful of cash and Donald Trump's bankroll. They really need a "fail" button in these forums.
  2. Yeah... and to add insult to injury the NDP is treating Alberta Oil like early access for investors. Anyway... standing down- but I STILL think people should read before they sprinkle their opinions across our fertile internet soil.
  3. If having the opinion that people should do some research before coming in and shitting all over everything makes me a fanboy- then please just call me MISTER Fanboy. Anyone who spent more than 10 minutes looking into the state of things in .58 would see where we came from and where we're going. Instead, they spend 10 minutes writing some BS post that we need to wade through among all the other BS posts that try to justify them.

    How was your Day(Z)?

Been hopper smashing over the last couple days... Like traveling from Calgary to NY- Hours of boredom followed by a knife fight in a pizzeria.

Full Eugen Harton GDC Europe 2015 Presentation

I listened to this in the background as I struggled to find something to do in game... It definitely helped pass the time and was VERY informative. Excellent vid- thanks!
  6. Another question came out of this... are guns considered storage? So with ammo in mags in guns... in barrels... You see where I'm going with this. Any influence at all that you guys have seen?
  7. If you're starving that quickly then try to move around in a trot instead of the full on sprint- at least until you find food and a good supply of water. Once you find something- you can eat / drink until you're stuffed... don't go beyond that otherwise you start puking etc. I haven't touched a compass since .4x something since back before I was familiar with the map broken compasses got me hopelessly lost and I wasted a lot of time trying to get back on track. Forced me to learn my environment. Server wise... privates seem pretty barren right now- we gravitate towards the time accelerated pubs... but not TOO time accelerated. I showed up in one server and it was 1am. 15 minutes later it was daylight- that's too fast. We've got ours set to 3 and that seems a nice balance.

    Crafting target sheet

Thought it would be neat to be able to craft one out of 4 sheets of paper (with duct tape) and a pen... Would need to be able to see the hit marks on it mind you and I have no idea what is involved in something like that- Maybe you need a couple pens... but you get the idea. We can slap paper on a wall... or on a tree if memory serves- maybe this isn't beyond the realm of possibility?
  9. Like to know the status of the "hotfix we are working on as I type this" as per a tweet last week... Not being a whiny bitch- I'd just literally like to know what's going on with it and if they're making headway.
  10. Okay so we have a combination of numerous barrels, car tents and small tents... along with a smash of backpacks / kit-in-kit type stuff. We moved the trucks and lag has completely vanished according to one of our guys (coldatrophy). We had another issue too- I was under the impression the servers would restart on their own every 12 hours automatically... so I didn't configure the server to restart through Gameservers. Going over the logs it sounds like it had been up for well over 12 hours- more than 24 by the sounds of it and that didn't help. The combination of a restart and moving the trucks made things very nice indeed.
  11. Definitely given us something to try out... We do keep trucks in proximity to our elaborate camps. Going to need to shuffle some stuff around and see if it works.

Good to know... But isn't it true you can't even shoot through glass?

    How was your Day(Z)?

DayZ has definitely changed for me lately... As .58 introduced an epidemic of server hopping around the NWAF we (Schwab / Cold / DaveB and I) decided we'd try to take a bite out of it one day at a time. It's not a particularly unique play style... but it has been rewarding in its own way. Granted it does take some patience since hoppers tend to gravitate to low / 0 pop servers and have a few spots to choose from. We can't cover them all at once. Yesterday brought us a bunch of guys in short order and we took bites out of a couple of them but my shooting was terrible even as close as 300m. Generally you know you get 1 shot before people start doing the wiggle waggle all over hells half acre- One dude climbed up the tower next to the quonset on the west side of the runway which I thought was pretty ballsy. I gave him something to think about as he rolled around bleeding on the top of the tower. My range was off... so he survived the encounter but I'm pretty sure we gave him and his two friends something to talk about around the water cooler the next day. We had another guy pop up at the one in the tent area of the NWAF... but again he managed to wiggle himself clear and log. Today was frustratingly slow... but the contact we had proved to be the one that mattered. We've done a few things to slow people down a bit as they go into the quonset... One guy was wading through the obstructions in his own way and got drilled in the back of the head for his trouble. Turned out Mr. Greedypants had the weapon Cold has LITERALLY been scouring the earth for since .58 went stable: the SVD. Some ammo to boot! So that was good. I'm not sure the word is getting out because we're seeing a pretty steady stream of people dropping in and within a minute banging on the door of the quonsets. I did see one dude just head into the quonset and sit there for 15 minutes or so before logging. Clearly he was thinking he'd wax some folks as they walked in the door. As I was sitting there doing my thing I thought it would be neat to be able to craft a "target" that you could post up on a wall and shoot for practice. 4 pieces of normal paper (crafted together into one bigger one with duct tape), and a pen would be what was needed. You could then mount it wherever and do some target practice. I was CRAVING that as I waited. Not sure what others are doing but this camp building bug has put a real damper on what people are doing... so I think they're just passing time collecting gear and server hopping. And we're passing the time finding new and improved ways to kill them.

Own server(s) not appearing in server listings

Thanks guys. Cleared up some confusion on our part.

Own server(s) not appearing in server listings

We're having the same problem and our server (while new) is still almost a week old. I noticed three things in particular. 1) Doesn't appear readily in internet / history and can't be put into favorites. 2) Can't "refresh" it and it doesn't show server time. 3) And it doesn't show the version other than 58.0. This through GamerServers. I've got a ticket in with them and they quickly said "okay, should be fixed try it again" but it's still down. We've tried restarting steam and the server- no joy. Not sure if the trouble is related, a DayZ bug or a bug on their ends... very anxious to get this resolved since I'm quite certain it's impacting our traffic.
  17. I think the damaged hands is a good idea too. Each action where you use your hand would take longer and result in more spillage- Aiming as mentioned would be less steady. I'm not sure where the cannabis plant comes in but one more reason to have it and morphine.

    Never Seen This Before

Do they just run randomly around or does someone need to spook them? I saw a deer scream past the other night at NWAF and figured someone spooked them. One of the other guys said they just run around randomly...

    Sneaky At NWA

Have you noticed that "check pulse" seems to be a bit glitchy? I keep trying to scroll down to it and it keeps skipping back up to the top option. I noticed it happened to you in this video- wondering if it's something you've had an issue with?

Truck noise makes me want to KILL

On the other hand there are a ton of similar buildings and making people run through that relatively limited inventory of structures would be suffocatingly boring. I hope there is some work going into diversifying the architecture.

    The Psychology of Understanding Alpha

It's almost as if this whole development process is "the" game for many of us. I mean... really. We're all going to squirt out the end of this thing and suddenly we're going to be faced with a finished game. What on earth are we going to do then? Many of us will have been playing it for years, looking forward to dramatic changes and introductions of new functions and features every other week or so until everything is finished. Then what? Am I investing all my time now so that I have a polished game that I can sink another thousand hours into? I'm not sure that I am. In fact, I think I'll cross the finish line and throw my computer out the window. But I will enjoy the journey... well- some of it. Okay- most of it!
