We had a shitty night too... I'm alive but DaveB and Bam are dead. I was working overwatch in the southern end of Berezino again- just west of the police station area. I noticed someone just appeared on the roof of the large brick industrial building with a long rifle so I called out to them. Figured he spawned in there between scans. The guy was facing SSW so we agreed the guys could safely climb up and hit him from behind. If the guy turned I could fire or bam could just stay on the ladder until he looked the other way again. The guy crouched for a second, then sat down... and I thought he might be logging. Bam and Dave were still on the ground and I was about to call them off when the guy went prone again and kept moving around. About 30 seconds passed as we hammered out a plan and I kept my eyes on at about 600m. I didn't have a fantastic shot but definitely knew the range well enough to get close if I had to distract him briefly. JUST before we put things in motion the guy just disappeared from my sight... He just evaporated in stark contrast from the law of conservation of mass and energy where "something" can not become "nothing." Almost immediately after the guy disappeared... maybe about 5 seconds later gunfire erupted and both DaveB and Bam were dead. Dave thought it sounded like the guy shot at them through the building. Perhaps the game did not offend the law of mass / energy after all. He hadn't become nothing- he just moved. I'd have never, ever believed that was possible if I hadn't seen Dave spawn inside the building during a reset in .57... he could see out the walls (they were invisible) but could not walk through them. I'm not sure if you can shoot through them or not? I'm extremely hesitant to call glitch abuse or "haxor!" because that's the common goto when people get owned by someone who was just playing it better than they were- but I have to admit the kills were extremely suspicious given the circumstances. I might post this story over in the .58 discussion because I'm not sure if others have witnessed something similar and it's an actual bug... so forgive me if it looks like I'm spamming this all over the place- because I am ;)

Interesting. I always thought that people sinking in the ground was a glitch... apparently that's how they "imply" the grass level.

I'm more excited about beards than I am about the chopper... It will definitely add that same element of fear that trucks used to for me as soon as I heard them. I'm interested to see how they are balanced to maintain the actual scope of the game. Oh wait. The scope is pvp. Nevermind. -
Maybe if people weren't killing everyone they meet we'd still have a substantial player base that was willing to work together to resolve loot shortages...

Hopper smashing can be a fun escape from the boredom of .58 or it can be the basement of monotony. After seeing 1 hopper in 3-4 days the group (DaveB, Schwab and I) decided to take our attentions to Berezino on a full pop server to see if we remember how to use our weapons. I took up my traditional overwatch role on the northern end of Berezino- essentially concentrating north of the fire station. DaveB and Schwab moved closer to the city's edge and into a house to do some gear adjustments. Contact was made almost immediately as they came out of the house and moved to the east. About a minute later bam was hit but the other guy was dead. "Fresh coming up behind you-" I said from range. Bam and Dave basically ignored him and went back to the house to heal. "What was he saying?" Dave asked Bam about the fresh. "Something about 'you should have role played more before you shot him' or some other nonsense. I'm not role playing on a full pop in zino with a guy pointing a gun on me." Bam had a few things to say about desync given that he'd practical stuffed his AKM into the dead guy's aorta and pulled the trigger and still didn't kill him. The other guy was able to get shots on him before finally being taken down. Bam and Dave stayed in the house to try and get Bam back into working order again... meanwhile a second group of 2 guys approached from the west. "Guys are coming in- 1 armed and 1 fresh. They're at the door... It's opened- weapon is drawn." I saw a shotgun blast (and heard it over TS3 since -someone- had his speakers turned up too high *cough cough*) so I put my game face on and opened fire with unknown results. I'm quite certain it served to distract if nothing else- but not enough. The guy ran in the door... Bam said he shot him but the guy got the upper hand somehow and killed him instead. Dave, meanwhile, shot the guy and was disconnected from TS3 and the game... we had no idea what happened to him at the time. I watched from a distance- there were two more shot gun blasts but I wasn't sure at who... figured maybe at Dave. We weren't sure. Bam spawned back right outside of Berezino so he made his way back as I watched the house. The armed guy came out and I shot him in the middle of the street... the fresh guy was just running around aimlessly- not sure what that relationship was but I left him alone. A BUNCH of stuff happened all at once in that sector- Bam got back and got some of his gear back... got chased around by a couple guys for a bit... killed a guy who had his AK and got it back... Some dude was sniping from one of those metal towers you see at the airfield- I took a few shots at him but with limited effect so Dave and Bam cleaned him out. Then the most frustrating thing of this game happened: As I was tucked away in my corner I heard footsteps. I knew I'd fired quite a few shots and should have moved so I'd been keeping a close eye on my surroundings. I darted out of cover, drew a different weapon and put on my gorka helmet / visor and prepared for some close quarters glitch battle. Winchester wasn't going to do me any good at this range- I knew that from experience. Started with my FNX then transitioned to shottie. I moved around the house and saw a fresh moving around nearby. I swear I bump into this same kid on every server- it's exactly the same voice. I ran into him once before a long time ago in Kamy... wasn't sure if it was a boy or a girl... Whatever it was was fucking annoying. Ran into the same one again at Niznoye (sp?) and it accused me of shooting it but I hadn't killed anyone in ages... it just followed me around like herpes and wouldn't go away. Eventually I just ignored it and it killed me with a crowbar. "Oh look- a big man... why'd ya shoot at me in town bro?" I didn't say anything... it was just this feminine boy voice and this fresh character running back and forth... "Why'd ya shoot me bro?" So at one point he stands there still enough I switched to shottie and put one in his chest from 10 feet away. Of course this doesn't do anything... makes him bleed a little but now he starts running around in that spastic fashion essentially characteristic of DayZ close quarters cattle. I shoot again, miss... switch to FNX... Get one round in and miss a bunch of others as this guy just swarms around me punching me. "Sounds stupid guys, but I might need some help." "On our way." Granted this little fucktard was good and clearly knew what he was doing. He just danced around and taunted me the whole time. He didn't care if he got killed and knew it was going to be hard for me to hit him with anything. FNX puts one out of 15 into him... not sure where all I know is I heard the hit and the reaction. He keeps running... Axe comes out (after I hit the button 40 fucking times) and I swing that around like a drunken newborn and don't hit anything. Alright- back to basics. Pull out my combat knife but it doesn't have the stab animation I was expecting and still has a swing... Maybe a hit or two. (mental note- if I'm carrying the weapon I need to practice with it). Bam was laughing at me at this point explaining it looked like I was in a boxing match. I headed over towards him and he shot the guy over my shoulder. I wanted so, so badly to just break his legs and strip off his clothes and leave him there... Cut off his head and... (nevermind- sorry... that's another story). But when Bam shoots someone he doesn't exactly shoot to wound. We knew we were incredibly exposed at that point so it was time to di di mau. We did head over to the south end but after 30 minutes it was evident that even on a full pop there just wasn't much going on there. Tonight, I think we dine in Elektro...

That district is definitely a hub of activity. Nice work on that- great communication and cooperation.

All work and no play makes hak a dead boy.

Did I do something wrong? Sniping in the Airfield
eno replied to FrigginTommyNoble's topic in General Discussion
At this point it's the moral reflection afterwards that I'm enjoying about this game the most. Otherwise it's just like every other game that does practically everything better than DayZ right now (I know, I know... it's an Alpha). I look forward to taking someone down with my team, quickly tie them up or handcuff them before they die and then give them that epi out of unconsciousness... maybe give them the morphine for their broken leg... Actually create an opportunity to take yourself AND the guy you have handcuffed down a completely unique road each time. It doesn't happen often but I've REALLY gotten a charge out of it when it has happened. Looking at your scenario as others have said if you hadn't killed him there's a chance you're writing this story about how you let him go and he ended up stumbling into you later and killing you. Or you approach him and he shoots you on sight. Or you approach him and became friends on steam and having a partner in crime changed your gaming experience... We all know the risks we're taking in that area- especially right now. He'll have probably been kicking himself for getting sloppy so next time he'll pay more attention. Or he'll just keep doing the same thing and just write you off as a dumb KOSer who isn't playing the game right. -
Just thought id leave this here and see what everyone thinks

Well then in THAT case it's bloody hilarious. Oh wait- no it isn't. -

I haven't quite figured out why grown adults impersonate kids- some sort of sick fetish or something I suppose... Either way these idiots should get murdered 100% more often. I'm not sure if it really ever was funny... and if it ever was in the history of this game and the mod then it's WAY past its prime now. But if waxing cliche and sharing astonishingly unremarkable footage is the intention then bravo to the OP. 10/10! -
Not the same without a creative .gif to complete the sense of gratification. I don't think they're allowed in here though for some reason... Meh- a jpg instead:

Killa... I have to say you are one patient dude.

Pretty sure you're talking about afterburner. It's an awesome video capture program as well as fps monitor and so much more.

You know- it's kind of occurred to me that the way the community responded to this was like they were in game responding to someone who had offered them an SVD. Sure- I'll take it... and while I'm standing there you end up drawing the derringer I didn't see in your hand and shoot me with it while I have my guard down. Or maybe you join me and my associates and travel with us to a destination... halfway there you say your character is cold and needs a fire to warm up. We set about building a nice, warm fire for our new friend to show how nice we are and you mow us down with the UMP45 you had tucked in your backpack. Make a nice program to do nothing other than help people do things to improve their gameplay experience for free- Well... it's GOT to be stuffed full of trojans and keyloggers to mine my identity and all my banking information. And while I sound sarcastic at the end... I'm not meaning to. I'm dead serious- We're so used to "the catch" we seem to apply it out of here as well. Like you said- be careful... but don't be rude about it. I'm putting this on my second computer now too- so a second thank you to you for your work!

Downloaded. Installed. Needed an update according to the program. Updated. Used. Worked as promised- nothing more nothing less. Awesome. Closed program. Played dayz. Still playing. Still playing. I understand some scrutiny but good grief some of you are acting like you're putting your tongue on an escalator handrail.

Just to let you know- we made some modifications to our own camp areas and have virtually eliminated the desync around the camps. I think it was containers in containers and containers in vehicles that was causing it. Suffice to say we have two very large camps going and I haven't heard a complaint about it since we saw the fixes discussed. That's definitely the higher road than I would have gone and I'm usually a pretty nice guy already. I mean, if he decides to work together than his lost barrel becomes his (also) again anyway so it's win win for him if he chooses the equally high road. Seeing your play style does help keep me grounded since I'll always have a reason to reflect on the fact that the lone guy I'm shooting while we're hopper hunting could just be a dude running around rummaging looking for food for someone ELSE's barrels. Talk about a class act!

I'm pretty sure I've read that the plant material is supposed to be used for fertilizer in the near future but I was wondering if we may also be able to use it as fuel on fires. Even in the position of rags / paper? It would be nice to "clean up" areas after as well for the days where base building is upon us. Currently I'm working in a particular area and there is plant material everywhere... I've tried throwing it in the fire but it just sits there. I've seen another suggestion about using it for ghillie crafting- possibly in exchange for or as a supplement to burlap strips? I think that would be a great use for the material as well. Anyway- just a thought.

I had to think about this one for a bit- a luxury you don't always have when you're in game. Who knows- by now it may already be gone and you've lost your opportunity to apply either course of action. My kneejerk reaction was that I'd leave a note saying "Either you move this thing or I will." Then again- in the state my character is in I don't really need the barrel. I definitely wouldn't feel sorry for stealing it... it's a hard lesson but one that helps someone improve over time. At the same time if he is near your base area then your stuff is not safe either. Taking it ups the ante against you... leaving you looking over your shoulder every time you head back to your camp. Who knows... you may leave a note and you may return to your camp one day to find a note where your barrel used to be that says "FU." Frankly if he thinks its safe there- then he'll go rummage for stuff and put it there... at some point something more valuable that you want might pop up. Technically it's ALREADY your barrel because you know where it is. Assuming he doesn't know you know... him stashing it in an "almost" impossible to see place makes it a hidden asset to both of you.

I'm going to go ahead and necro bump this since dispensing with plant material is proving to be a real PITA. On top of it I can't find any animals to kill to mix guts with plant material to create fertilizer and the stuff doesn't burn. Any input on what future opportunities we will have to use plant material? Any idea on what future intent is? While I haven't tested it specifically- I've heard whispers that accumulating plant material in a relatively close space (ie: a camp) may contribute to some graphic anomalies... I'd like to be able to see it ruined in 30 minutes (or a plant growth cycle time), or be able to burn it as kindling... Anything but have it lay around uselessly.

We've had a quiet few days with a couple of low key adventures and even a- get this- friendly interaction at the NWAF. I will admit something though up front. Yesterday we had 3 guys on- a couple of clan tags and an "other." They were all in there for quite awhile so not the typical hop and drops that we're getting accustomed to. Anyway I was parked in my usual spot- paranoid a bit about being scoped out by some unseen sniper... But then I got bored of being stressed and my mind started to wander. Finally after what seemed like hours (probably was hours) someone came into view, running along the barracks on the west side of the AF. Minimally geared... he ran into the barracks (which didn't have anything much in it judging by the last few times I've been in there) and then went to the quonset. Nobody else around- so probably the "other." He fiddled around the quonset and I shot at him. Miss. Fuck sakes... how? Shot again as he started running around a la chicken avec la tete coupe and out of sight. Wait- what did I just do? Am I now that fucking guy? So bored with what I'm doing (basically nothing) that I'm just taking pot shots at stragglers? I didn't even want to talk about it when the rest of my guys came in since I was so embarrassed. If they'd been around I'd have ID'd the guy as a minimal threat and they would have at least approached him with caution, controlled him and helped him if it was appropriate... but no- I'm glad I missed. It's not his fault I was bored... that was my own damned fault. Anyway- if the guy (short form DW) is perusing the forums and recognizes the story... I feel stupid about doing that. Not only did I take an unnecessary shot at someone who was probably one of the few just playing the game the way it's meant to be- I also exposed myself to detection by the clan guys who could have been anywhere. Dumb, dumb move. So how was my DayZ? It was illuminating to me... I won't do that shit again no matter how long I've waited.

Interesting that you would say that... I'm not sure saying that any one element of the game is as it is intended to be and the same applies to the availability of water pumps. They work now just like zombies worked in .57... Did the zombies work the way they were intended? No... Did they serve a specific purpose? Probably. Well then- I suppose the same could be said for water pumps (I hope.)
-
What's done? All you're proposing is balancing a mechanic (that is coming anyway) that just makes the journey between known functioning water sources take longer.
-
Figured I'd bump this instead of make a new thread. Definitely would like to see the pumps provide a less reliable source of water. Any further thoughts on how to achieve this?

I found one in a sandbag shelter at nwaf- our group has three of them... Found there, a deer stand and I think a barn. I've been finding weird loot "near" loot spawn locations- not like stuff dropped... A pile of rifles next to a tent... And actually some good civ weapons on top of the light towers (nwaf again) and on cranes. Two augs laying out in front of south Quonset in the middle of the taxiway- not a chopper spawn. Stuff like that seems to be happening with irregular regularity. Definitely a bit more luck involved- wish I could help more but at the same time I'm glad I can't. The Winchester is my favourite too so I understand how frustrating it can be... But we found some. Took 4 of us but we found some.
