Those little known and well known tourist spots..the nine raging boners of the apoc
eno replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
I was doubtful it would be anything more than cliche commentary but the guy writes it really well. Very good humour- Glad I took a few minutes to look it over! -
Yeah, you just described my introduction to the whole system. I eventually persevered but many don't for all the reasons you've described and more.
-
Question for you- What were YOU hoping to get out of the game? When you first logged in, what were you expecting?
-
Reports are one part of it- upvotes are the second. As for the hotbar- there's a category called "feature request." Post your idea and nothing will happen. Ever. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut if the entire community goes in there, sees your idea and upvotes it- well, you see where I'm going with that. If we get anywhere even near the middle with the whole concept of reporting and upvoting then we'd be doing pretty well. Upvotes are important too!

How to remove spare wheel stored in Lada Offroad Hatchback?
eno replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Our guys tend to switch back and forth a lot- in some cases it's downright handy since you can search lower floors of buildings /hunting stands / light towers without climbing or going upstairs- valuable with all the broken legs etc happening when you're upstairs on anything. Also allows you to work on the car / tires / car doors etc without tools. But then once that's done, they log, switch back to the old UI- then come back in. Fortunately the new UI is only a technology demonstrator- barely even a placeholder I think at this point. Don't be discouraged by its appearance since it has very little relation to what the finished product will look like. I'm not 100% sure exactly what it's demonstrating- since its form and function are awful... though I've heard it is smoother and has less impact on FPS. I can't speak to that since I've never noticed an impact on FPS with the old UI given the fact that I look at a city, car, zombie, other player and my frames are cut in half. -
Very nasty tenants, who has the patience to camp in one place for three days?
eno replied to Toperek1990 (DayZ)'s topic in Gallery
Makes less than no sense. -
Happy birthday- which one is it if I can be so bold as to inquire? Any big plans for the day? Or... So for this reason I hope you get killed a bunch of times today ;)

You need to take them off other spawned vehicles- you can use new UI if you don't want to use tools but pretty sure with old UI that you need to use a wrench.

Now that you mention it I'm starting to think my rain memory was just clouds and thunder- the last rain was at the tail end of .58 in a different server than our own. We still didn't see a lot of rain on gameservers, mind you.

Yeah, right now you could practically put your camp right in the middle of the NEAF... nobody would find it. Biggest waste of space on the whole map. To add a few points think about landmarks that people use to get around- roads are obvious but some forget about powerlines. People will find a powerline on a map that gets them close to where they need to go (especially when you don't know the map very well) and they'll just follow it to a landmark and branch off. Also consider undulating terrain that create pockets of opportunity- many of these can be found closer to the coast and prevent detection in spite of higher volume traffic. Go to those pvp stream / youtube videos and look at where the action is... don't put anything there. If you do, maybe just put a beat up barrel in a tree / bush somewhere in plain sight- A bunch of small caches can be more beneficial than one uber cache- depending on what you're looking for.

A good review from someone who knows the practicalities of the developer and the "series" overall. It helps to come in and know the limitations of what the dev has worked on in the past so you have realistic expectations. I'm not sure if PvP is the focus... they say it isn't but a lot of signs suggest it is. It will always be a dominant play style- I think the concept may be that people who want to "survive" are going to have to stay away from the cities / towns... and away from contested territory... and figure out what that is on whatever server they're on. They make PvP dominant so that people wanting to stay away from it really need to work hard at it. And about the weather- it's funny you mention it because on our own server I haven't seen a drop of rain since .59 hit while I go onto another server and it's pouring rain complete with lightning. I read somewhere awhile ago that it can even be "host" related- every gameservers host I've played on was sunny. Others- not. Placebo? Correlation / causation? Maybe. Anyway- welcome to SA. Maybe we'll see you out there.

Beans for Longest. Run-on. Sentence. Ever.

Integrated graphics? I doubt any setting in game will smooth out performance. Even an entry level graphics card would be better. Otherwise it's fine... Trying to change settings on this would be like trying to give your engine a tune up to fix 4 flat tires.

Our engagements intend to start as distant as possible to let people know we're there... sometimes guys blunder into our laps and that does escalate things regardless of tone. It probably doesn't help that we're in high speed military gear and not exactly looking friendly- but that's part of the fun of it. We ran into one guy named "Wolf" who was pretty cool- we helped him out just a bit and he continued into Sol, found a barrel then brought it back to us. "Thanks for helping- here's a barrel" he said as he dropped the barrel in the middle of the road. Strangely, I couldn't see it (only a shadow) and our guys couldn't interact with it. He eventually came back and said "hey- looked like your gear was damaged so here's a sewing kit." Nicest guy EVER? "I prefer damaged gear... blends in just a bit better- but I really appreciate the gesture!" That was one of the best days I remember but had a few solo encounters that left me wanting. The guys had logged and I was back in for a bit of time to collect some things- particularly .308 ammo again since I think I lost all mine when I got killed a few days back. There are a ton of hunting stands in Gorka so I decided to take the sedan out for a rip. On my way over from Sol I saw some deer grazing along the side of the road... their movements were very natural and to be quite honest for just a moment I thought to myself "Devs... you did this right." I pulled out my AKM (I know, right?) and fired a single shot at the buck and missed (I know, right?) and they went screaming off to the south up the hill on the left side of the road where they just as promptly started glitch running in place. I made my way up a bit closer to them, found the buck among the treadmilling herd and pulled the trigger. As if standing on the world's largest catapult, when the buck "died" it was flung into space about a hundred feet further up the hill where it laid to rest. That when paired up with the "MMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUU!" of its dying breath was paradoxically hilarious. I couldn't help but pad up the rest of the hill seeking out other siege weapons to fling up towards an invisible and non-existent foe. One after another, my "catapelt" lobbed hundreds of pounds of deer meat, animal lard and bones uphill to their final resting place. I tried to make a deer pelt bag but was unable- Harry later advised me that I needed to tan the leather first before making use of it... Okay, that's actually pretty cool. At one point in Gorka I managed to slide the sedan up against a guardrail and was unable to get unstuck for quite a time. I ended up needing to aggressively reverse and turn the wheel and cause the car to "spin" around but progressively pinning the back end under the rail. The front end stuck up in the air at about a 40 degree angle and I hung there in disbelief grinding gears forwards and backwards trying to ween myself out of that predicament. I could only imagine what that would have looked like if I was another survivor just making my way around- I'm not sure I'd make sense of it. I did get unstuck and made my way back to our setup... Harry and Schwab joined me shortly thereafter and we had a great time.

Weird... we've been up and down the coast a few times on our relatively slow server and haven't found any either. I guess it's out there... just got to keep looking.

Rangefinder is not working. Been bugged for awhile. Used to read only 6m now reads 7m.

Curious if it's the Battle Eye "client is not responding" issue...
-
You might try to do it from the front / hood... I had the same issue with the bus (needed to be installed in the back).

Eh Kirov... yeah the server is in Chicago and to add to that it's having connection difficulties so it kicks us randomly... BE loses contact. I always remembered the conversation we had before about ZH- he's all enamoured by GTA V so he hasn't been on lately- On the plus side we did pick up Hairyeyeball finally and had a bit of an adventure tonight. Suffice to say at some point we were both killed and the words "Fucking rekt" and "Fucking cock!" were shouted at us a number of times posthumously. Spent too much time trying to engage in dialogue where we should have been pulling the trigger. Prior to that we'd done what we were there to do... patrol the east coast road and try to help protect / help people. Sadly, it's been awhile so we were a bit rusty. Tomorrow!

Eh bud- can you elaborate a bit? We had some issues with them earlier but they leveled out.

I pummel around in the offroad in 4th gear all the time- but wasn't able to at first because of the ridiculous pull to the left. I was told that if I rotated the tires that might rectify it. I also used a tire repair kit to ensure they were all pristine. It doesn't show anything in the messages- but you can see damaged go to pristine if you use it. From there I was able to at least hit the straights and slight turns in 4th... but yes going through town in 4th is asking for troubles considering you can get high centered on a blade of grass.

Fun exercise- I haven't found my first in anger kill yet... but I found my first kill ever. https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?app=core&module=search§ion=search&do=search&fromsearch=1 Ah yes... and my first kill in anger. https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/210239-how-was-your-dayz/page-25#entry2232609

And for those who don't even want to contemplate using the new UI- get a friend who does. I spent 10 minutes one day trying to engineer a way to get it off the roof through various running G attempts, throwing down the ladder... off the edge... etc. In the most hilarious instance in not so recent memory we had a guy hit the V key instead of the G key to throw and he daintily stepped over the edge of the building and fell to his death. We still got the tent.

Yeah I hear ya... Keep in mind we have a public server and it's just not that busy. It's not like we wouldn't play it if it was busy and maybe it will get busy at some point and we'll be fighting for our lives. Other times it's quiet so we pick and choose where we're going to go and what we're going to do. Dave and I were on last night and there weren't many in out server so we decided we'd go on patrol down by our old stomping grounds. We've found that on high pop servers in and around berezino things are a little too chaotic- glitch abusers and hackers and just all around shoot'em ups... difficult to make a difference. Where we tend to contribute more to the game is in the areas between kill zones where people pick on the freshies who are just trying to play the game. Dave and I headed over to another busier server to try and help out a few people. One thing I have noticed is there really isn't much point since EVERYTHING is EVERYWHERE. You'd need a class 1 driver's license (tractor / trailer) to haul around all the gear you find and 5 stomachs to eat all the food. It's a bit ridiculous right now and I hope that gets toned down a bit. I met up with Dave at the factory and we made our way down to Sol along the east coast. On our way there I did a 6 check and happened to catch movement in the corner of my eye. We weren't sure if it was someone actively following us or just going about their business. We ducked out of sight to watch and the character just trotted over to the gas station and checked things out there. "I'll talk if you'll cover me," "Yes," Dave replied through text. While s/he was in the station itself, I stepped out onto the road and approached. I had a pistol / silencer drawn so I wasn't a complete dove but I figured it'd be less ominous / threatening than the 74. Initially the person didn't see me but as I got closer they must have seen me and froze. I'm gorked out with full helmet- all damaged stuff so not polished at all... Obviously teched out- the kind of guy many people just take for granted are there to kill everyone. I just like the gear because it's water resistant, has lots of pockets and okay granted I think it looks pretty BA. I tried calling out at about 100 feet. "Hello, can you hear me?" No response. I ran a bit closer. I put my hand up to wave. "Can you hear me?" I was only about 50 feet from them now and still no response- so probably no mic. "Okay well just wanted to let you know we're working in this area. We'll keep our distance..." The guy backpedaled a bit, turning as he did so to keep his eyes on me. I watched him carefully as he eventually turned and sprinted to Sol. I felt like we'd handled that transaction reasonably well and knowing Dave if the guy had made any move to draw a weapon he'd have drilled a round into his heart. I came back and said (over TS3) "Well, I think that went okay..." "I didn't hear you say anything." "Maybe I was too far away from you. What about now?" I toggled the in game voice chat button on my mouse while practically making out with Dave. "Nothing." Fuck. "So that whole time I was just standing out in the middle of the road and whoever that was couldn't even hear me?" "Probably." I went around messing about with my settings for a few minutes- reconfiguring my button to see if that changed anything. It didn't. "CAN YOU HEAR ME?!" I hear this voice challenge my eardrums... it sounded British or something... an accent I couldn't pin down. Holy fuck- is there some guy THAT close to us? I did a quick roll, then stood up with my pistol drawn. "Who the fuck was that?" I asked Dave as I scanned around, looking at nearby bushes. "That was me," he said non-nonchalantly as if wondering what the big deal was. No idea why I didn't recognize his voice except that he's usually so quiet on the mic I didn't relate it to him at all. We did a quick patrol to Sol and looked to see if there was an offroad there- but there wasn't. So we headed back up to the Factory but didn't see anyone. So we logged.

Why do you run around and get killed all the time? Go ahead and play your way... we'll play ours.
