    Server logs cut down significantly

Yeah... ours are gonzo after each reset- however long that is. Generally 24 hours or maybe more if we reset throughout. I just learned about a behavior we can detect in the logs and not being able to go back severely impacts our ability as mods to do anything about it. Not cool since now I feel like we're paying for the place and we're powerless to do anything about people who do nothing but squat and shit all over it.
  4. Well I suppose then to put it into perspective DayZ would be BIS F-35... trying to do too much at once while not doing anything pertinent really well- outrunning budgets and timelines almost as fast as promised performance. But also too big to fail.
  5. I think they're more active on Twitter and reddit... Forums seem so yesteryear. And I'm not sure that from any perspective, no matter how bad, that we can criticize work ethic. And I'm not a fanboy- I'm as frustrated as anyone else... but we literally can not make an assessment like that in here.

    How was your Day(Z)?

^ Glad to hear you got it working either way. A few of the Helpy Helpers bounced to another server last night for another evening of "Mercy or Mayhem." All of us were pretty much in the same area and- "Hey... is that one of you guys?" Cold said, walking down the tracks by the quarry on the south end of Sol. Our whole night and the plan was immediately interrupted exactly like that. "No- I'm closer to the beach." "Not me... I'm still on our server." "Coming over from the gas station..." "Okay- There is at least one guy over here. He's carrying a weapon..." We all converged on the area of the quarry but before any of us could get close it happened- multiple gunshots from close aboard: "I'm shot... I'm shot-" I came around the corner by the rectangular storage building and there was a guy standing with his back turned to me with a blue taloon on- None of us have blue taloons so I released my happy helper all over the back of his head in the shape of both circumcised barrels. I started getting hit from somewhere else so I ducked out- taking hits to my medic kit and yellow protector case. I was bleeding and had a chipped leg. "I think I hit one- but I'm hit and bleeding. Greying out." Cold had a similar story. "I killed at least one... but I'm in rough shapy guys- I need help" Someone else mentioned there was another body. "Did he have a blue taloon?" Answer was in the affirmative. I mended and Hairy went over to push some fluids into cold. I was able to get a morphine in and bandage up (have to admit, I really enjoy the "medic" role even if in this case it was just on myself)- I wasn't shot up as badly as Cold so I headed northwest in an effort to get around a "third" guy that we thought we were dealing with. I went around wide and eventually ended up on the rock face of the quarry looking down. We spotted one other guy running with weapon drawn and I was able to track him heading generally north from the rectangular warehouse. Can't remember who killed him but I'm pretty sure it was cold. Things quietened down a bit at that point- everyone mended and my status was "healing" which was good enough for me. Shell came in and took up a spot on the north side of Sol covering to the factory. I have to be honest- we don't often meet that kind of aggression in Sol but I'm glad we were able to meet it head on. We waited. "Keep eyes open for freshies- those guys will probably be back" and minutes later they appeared. Funny how that works sometimes... Gee- 99 spawn points and all 3 get spawned at Nizhnoye, eh? One fully geared guy was escorting one freshie and they headed straight for the area the fight happened. It was evident they knew someone was around. I began calling out their locations and while hoping to keep them pinned closer to the coast opened up with a VSS. I am a little rusty right now so it took a couple shots but they got the point when I killed the geared guy. The other dude didn't want to leave... he stuck around on the other side of the fence- peeking out every now and then enough to draw an additional shot. I figured he was waiting for the guy to come back to get his gear. Pretty sure Hairy said he could see a guy in blue and a guy in green- so it may still have been 3 people we were dealing with. I think they were trying to stay in proximity to the gear so it didn't despawn. Problem is- proximity put them in my sights and I reminded them of that every time they peeked out. Unfortunately I missed every shot. "We need to get someone in there and clean that up from up close- I can't hit him. He's glitching through walls and I have no idea where he actually is." But even though it seemed we were healed guys were having some major gear issues. A bunch of ruined items were making a second go more difficult and I had one of the undamaged guys guarding my flank on the rock... it was just the way it happened that we couldn't just flush the game and take them down for good. So the guy stayed around. 10 minutes or so passed before another fresh appears (presumably the geared guy from before) and the two of them dance around his gear quite a bit. At my range I was having some trouble dialing in- probably ruined most of his stuff since we'd been using it as target practice the whole time he was gone) but eventually I took my sights off it long enough that he weaseled in and grabbed it. They then darted off north towards the factory where Shell was covering. "They're heading north... they're around the factory area... now they're heading west into the trees." I think Cold said, "They're flanking us." Shell, Hairy and I posted a defense along the hill to the west of Sol and sure enough within a couple of minutes I spotted them coming through the trees and caught the guy without the gear a bit flat footed. Like a noob I hadn't adjusted my zero distance and missed even at very short range. Goodness. It seems we were all affected a bit by some lag as Hairy got kicked out for a ping of over 700... That's another matter. I think shell killed one guy- pretty sure a couple of us took a chunk out of the second guy... Although to be honest it's starting to blend together on me. Seems we had another guy running away down the hill... We regrouped after that and decided that the (RUS) in the server name probably meant the server's location or something since all of us were experiencing bad performance... so we dropped out of that server and eventually went into another. In the transaction at some point Emu was running around and went into a shed / structure that is known to be glitched... guess he spontaneously died... so then Cold went to try and collect his gear and that turned into its own affair. Dave went with him on the recovery. The rest of the evening was uneventful. Naktl and I branched off and headed north to the factory on a new server to look for animal pelts and some "mercy" missions and other than a single near fresh guy (with a motorcycle helmet on... rrrrrrrrrrrrrr) that I was able to track from a distance for awhile we saw nothing. He spent most of the time glitch sliding on his knees the whole time we were together and that was enough of an immersion killer for me given that it was late anyway.

    Status Report - 15 Jan 2016

Plenty, eh? Forgive me if I'm dubious of that claim. I don't think it's worth any of our time to go back to a year ago and count how many of each there have been- but given the fact at my own level of frustration that has developed over time I'd be hesitant to use a word like "plenty." BUT- you do get what I'm saying either way...
  8. I made some of these comments in the Status Report thread but the parsed version is that we're following a pretty traditional BIS theme of introducing new "stuff" while not demonstrating equal enthusiasm for fixing things that are broke. I know, I know... different teams- Also we need to remember that everything is transitioning from "old" to "new." Why fix something in old when new is right around the corner- and I'm talking big scope stuff like engines and renderers etc. A lot of glitching behavior will be resolved when the new systems are implemented- so I can understand that some nagging bugs don't appear to be getting fixed when in fact they're not even an issue when the new carpet is rolled out. Game development is definitely giving those of us who are in here questioning development something to be concerned about- guys who are running around pew pew twitch pew pew youtube channels pew pew don't give a fuck where the game is going as long as rocket launchers. Helicopters. Yeah. The rest of us are sitting back going- okay... we'll play along for a bit but... uh... Elektro pvp again? THAT's the highlight video? I wouldn't be playing anymore if not for the fact that I've found a great group of guys to hang out with and just do whatever the server or situation of the day is going to dictate. Last night we went to Sol on a busy server with good intentions and 5 minutes in we're in a firefight. In SOL of all places. The day before I was out with one of the guys hunting boar / deer for our leather attire. This is definitely going to be a game where you choose your own adventure- and you do so in spite of what is happening all around you. Don't expect it to change without an investment in time and imagination on your part.

I just encountered this problem too... go into Steam and redetect your mic. I'm almost 100% sure that will resolve your issue. Give it a try!

    Status Report - 15 Jan 2016

I have to admit my heart sank a little bit when I saw an anti-tank / anti-material rocket under the paradoxically serene photo a a cozy Dayz garden setup complete with smoke emanating from the fireplace. The path towards something I have been invested into DayZ to try and avoid is becoming incandescently clear. Guys farming military gear and pew pew all day long- rockets flying overhead Blackhawk Down style as little-bird choppers juke for their lives. I'm sure some kind of actual machine gun is not far off so guys will be sawing buildings in half with those in no time. Soft skills will not deter these warlords from disposing of their bodies and starting over again making many encounters unilaterally mechanical and uninspiring. So in the end in spite of all the window dressings, smoke and mirrors what we're left with is ANOTHER pvp game wrapped up in a pve safety blanket. And of course the highlight of the update is ANOTHER pvp encounter in Elektro. Dismayed. But then I swirled through my cyclone of negativity and remembered it's a big map out there- Lots of areas where these baboons won't want to go for the lack of pew pew. Minimalist players adorned in their boar skin clothing with single shot weapons and a sheep's bladder for a water bottle will have nothing in their inventories or camps that concerns them. Walking through a proverbial minefield of traps and tripwires would not be worth the risk... Small camps will eventually (I hope) be extremely hard to find unless you're on top of them- and any human encounter you experience of any nature will be one that you can choose to have or avoid as that lone-wolf or war party unknowingly treks through your territory Okay. So I've come around full circle in my disposition. I do and have always appreciated the less formal, more conversational tone of the updates... and while I know this isn't "all about me!" can we please, please- PLEASE find something else to highlight in videos than pvp in Elektro? If you find yourself saying "but the pve stuff is so boring to watch!" then maybe that's a clue?
  11. Yes... that fact has come up in our backstage messaging. I think it's time for a paddlin' We've also noticed evidence of some pretty obvious duping- so even though we run the server with good intentions of course it doesn't stop the fucking asshats from coming in. Ah the joys of public servers.
  12. If anyone is looking for their crash dumps and logs- Logs: C:\Program Files (x(86)\steam\logs Crash dumps: C:\Program Files (x(86)\steam\dumps
  13. Oh- YOU'RE the reason we can still find any at all...
  14. Wondering out loud... If we put out a "server hit list" is that "naming and shaming?" We can't boot people... but maybe we can put a ransom for gear out instead? Got a VSS and a couple mags up for grabs? And what about a "message of the day" with the names of all the people we want killed (in game of course). I mean, it's our server... right? I don't think it's against any particular rule- it's just role playing.

    About vehicles...

What many people fail to realize is that DayZ is the first BIS effort to actually implement any vehicles whatsoever. As even the noobiest noob will tell you, absolutely NONE of the games ever created by BIS starting as far back as Operation Flashpoint had any road capable vehicles to speak of. ARMA 2 similarly was absent of anything with wheels. It is then understood that given that these are the FIRST EVER IMPLEMENTED into their video games that things will be, let's say a little rough around the edges. ARMA 3? A more modern title that was grown out of its predecessors maps? Nope- not a single working vehicle was ever programmed into the game so don't even go there! I mean... perhaps if there were vehicles in any of the other games there may have been some potential to, you know, borrow some of the experience gained in those other titles and enhanced the development of cars in DayZ instead of being forced to reinvent the wheel. Fortunately, all other BIS titles had heavy emphasis on pedal bicycles so I expect their integration into DayZ will be seamless and problem free.

    Survivalist Training Camp

I have had no trouble mining stones- and I have actually just made one of those improved stone fireplaces to cook steak with. I was able to apply the cooking pot straight to the stone fireplace without ruining it. I stacked 8 stones- whether that was how many was needed... not sure. I've been wanting to do that for awhile so I finally sat down and did it. Problem is the fireplace is not persistent even with the stones- so put the stones back in your pack or in a barrel to keep them around for the next time. Pretty sure I lost the tripod as well (from another cooking experience). As for lard- I found that it wasn't needed for cooking per se, though you can still use it to make a torch.
  18. Yeah- very possible. Thanks for checking that out. Perhaps it has something more to do with the state of the vehicle itself? There's no way of currently seeing the status of the vehicle- It was my impression that if your clothing is "ruined" that it will cause your inventory to degrade at an accelerated rate (I'm thinking back a long time when I believed that was the case)... Do the vehicles have a shell "status?" It would make sense since the sedan in my story had already been found with a tire despawned and as a result of that slid down a hill smashed on a tree where I found it. I put the tire back on and it slid the rest of the way down the hill and subsequently lost all panels / doors... after which I experienced all the (new) tires I'd been put on being ruined after 2 server resets in 10 minutes. I'm not meaning to force feed my perspective on anyone... and I can accept that it's just not the way I think it is- but there are a lot of questions relating to vehicles that remain unanswered.
  19. I've been seeing it myself... but I've been told from other very passionate exp / bug chasers that it's not the case (they don't think). Whether it's happening by design or because of a bug... I mean we're talking about something that could be different between users. I log back in and see that one or two of the four tires I put on are gone... so I shake my fist at alpha and head off to get more. Next guy comes in sees all tires... I come back and those tires are there but another is missing. I could log and they'd all be there... but you can't log every time... Just went through the process of resetting a server in an attempt to retrieve a car that was stuck... (in the how was your dayz thread) and tires were all pristine... after 2 resets they were all ruined. May or may had nothing to do with anything- perhaps they were damaged by the tree? But I am constantly seeing vehicles degrading- just about every time I come back to a car after a day its plugs / battery are ruined and tires are gone. People can say others stole the tires- I discount that given the circumstances but if it were even remotely possible I'd take it into account. So whether they're just degrading every 24 hours when the server automatically resets- or degrading every time the server is restarted... I'm sorry I can't say I'm explicitly tested it since it's a conclusion it has taken me some time to develop- and frankly putting cars together is such a pain in the ass that putting one together just to watch it fall apart is nowhere near the top of my gaming hitlist. I put it out there more to just find out if anyone else has experienced it.
  20. I'm almost certain that all components are in a continuous state of degenerating... so you can't just park the car and leave it there forever unless you're doing constant upkeep. If you're using a vehicle all the time this isn't a big deal- but if you have them stashed all over the map then you'll eventually end up seeing them with everything ruined- tires most frustratingly since cars (and trucks / buses I assume) will work with ruined battery and plugs.

    How was your Day(Z)?

Had a weird one last night- everything was coming together pretty well so 4 of us jumped in an offroad and headed to the coast for a patrol. I'm not sure about anyone else but I find the area west of Svet- there's a turn off by a wrecked bus between Svet and Novo- has always caused my comp to hiccup... whether it's my gaming laptop or my monster back home. Last night, I didn't notice it as much on the monster but then one of the guys in the car said, "I fell out... I'm dead." "Whaaaaaaaaaat?" Nah we tell him- just spawn out... probably a glitch. In the meantime he spawns out and confirms he's a fresh spawn. A couple of us get out of the car and the other guy can see his body lying in the road with all his stuff on. Unfortunately, he's unable to interact with it. I look a bit further down the road and I ALSO see his body laying in the middle of the street. I head over to that one and I am able to remove his clothing and items. Strangely enough- it's not the same character... He's the tanned Caucasian male but what I'm looking at is the darker skinned female. Very weird. We got most of his stuff together- pants were ruined but generally everything else seemed okay if not a bit damaged. Very weird- just one more thing that's souring my patience...
  22. We've been encountering this type of behavior more often lately and don't hesitate to pull the trigger when someone's spidey senses are going off. With that said, we'd rather not kill folks who are just flailing during their first hold up. It does make me wonder- you sound an awful lot like a guy who held me up in Zelenegorsk awhile ago... in one of the military barracks. I bolted and whoever it was came after me not realizing that I had a friend there. May or may not have been you- but it was very familiar and this video reminded me of it. Thanks for the vid either way- one of your earlier vids really helped us analyze behaviour and respond to it more effectively and safely.
  23. This... not black screen though- it just froze my screen completely. Entire computer locked up- had to power cycle as well. I do have -dologs in my start up parameters... see what I can find.
  24. Not sure about your play style OP but if you're seeing a reduction of food then I suggest you start getting in the wiki and learning about the gardening options available... and the hunting. Animals are by no means plentiful- but when you stumble into one or a herd it is nice to be able to maximize your use of what is offered by it. Crafting fish hooks from the bones, use guts as heatpacks or ropes... Also you can craft fertilizer when combined with "plant material." Loads of meat and you can fabricate your own leather clothing after tanning the pelts. The improvised boar skin backpack (doesn't require tanning- made that mistake already) is still my favourite- buuuuuut yeah the hunter's backpack is great too. Our group is currently collecting as many pelts as we can to totally gear up in leather clothing. A nice add on to that is that you can colour your leather... I don't think we'll run around in moccasins but pants / hats / jackets / sacs and storage vests would be pretty cool. Play on the condition that you only eat what you grow or kill... Unfortunately I don't think the bows currently work reliably enough to depend on them- but this may have been corrected. I haven't tried one in awhile. Not a ton of zombies out there- but they're there and they do add an element of tension for those first few hours. Once you start getting weapons it becomes easier- but harder at the same time as you balance out the availability of ammo with the need to expend it. Some of the cities are getting some attention as well- some slight modifications to some of the larger centers as well as some areas added in throughout the map- hunting camps etc. Still a shitload of asshats out there so approach other players at your own risk. I hate to admit it but it does add an element of tension to the game that no AI could replicate. The world requires all kinds... Good luck out there.

    How was your Day(Z)?

Shittiest day in game that I've had so far. Ran around Sol looking for wheels for a sedan that had gradually despawned all its tires and slid down a hill. Found a tire- put it on... the sedan grew a life of its own and slid down the rest of the hill- slamming into trees on its way down and losing all doors. Spend hours running around looking for tires- finally with the help of three of our companions find 3 sedan tires- but the sedan is stuck on a tree. Cut the tree down... nothing. Can't reverse, can't anything. Reset the server (nobody else was in anyway). Stuck on different tree... Wheels all over the place. Replace them. No luck- stuck in the tree. Reset the server again- all tires ruined. Fuck sedans. Dave comes with a treat- glitching with items between the vehicle and personal inventory. Need to log again to see that I'm holding an AKM. They can see it and I can't. Dave electric slides to a house. Looks fucking ridiculous. Alpha. I log again to see the AKM in my hands. 60 second delay plus minutes in "please wait." Every. Single. Time. When "logging" is the solution to the inventory problem and you can't go 5 minutes without seeing someone on their knees scooting around all over the world even though they're not on their knees... It's actually HILARIOUS to see a guy on his stomach screaming around at running speed from Nizhnoye to the factory- tearing through grass like a John Deere... But on the plus side we have a bicycle coming. I know I know... this is not the place. But Alpha. Oooooooh fucking alpha.
