Lots to look over but not a bunch to see. I'm swirling around on the edges looking into the bowl wondering when to take a dip. Emu- glad to see you're still on it bud. Amazed, but glad to see a familiar face!

Load the game... doesn't exit windowed mode. It covers about 1/4 of my screen. Can't get out of it. Can't shut the fucking repeating bird sound off. Fuck this. Wake me up when it's done.

Nothing quite says "Shoot me in the fucking face with extreme prejudice and violence" in DayZ quite like a Ghillie Suit.
-
fuck dude- whatever. Write your blog and move on. Looks like you're off to a great start.

I think the debug zone is immersion breaking, cant we make cherno an Island?
eno replied to degoe's topic in Suggestions
https://forums.dayz.com/topic/234632-make-chernarus-an-island/#comment-2353018 Take a look at some of the conversation here... many points on both sides. I'm for an island idea that can expand into a variety of different island "worlds" instead of just falling off the edge of reality into dead grass. -
Rule number 1. Don't need to post the same post across 4 threads. Rule number 2. Don't need to post the same post across 4 threads including one that's 3 months old. Rule number 3. If you think shooting things is the solution for everything, then look into apples because reasons.

Ever heard of apples?

And even a remote glance at its 54 pages would clearly show that's not the case. Anyway, knock yourself out. If you "spawned in somewhere on the east coast" and don't know where- then you're new. The rest of us will be posting our stories in there. Have fun.

Funny that the Community Manager wouldn't be aware of a diary thread 54 pages long and over 2 years old. Meh- DayZ.

Took a long break- but the Helpy Helpers started talking about Experimental migrating into a playable / tolerable state so I made the jump and started dabbling in it. We're all spread out and some guys aren't tapped into EXP- this is my first step into it. I knew there was going to be some fucktards involved- in there just shooting people who are trying to exercise some of the less used functions of the game but overall I had hope that things would go well. My first few contacts were enjoyable- I spawned in near Balota and grabbed a few items before heading over to the airfield for a little chicken saute roasted over an open flame. At the time in the last .61 exp patch, there was some irregular zombie behavior that resulted in them running slower than I could walk. I had found a magnum and some .357 ammo and curious about gun sounds I just blatted out all 6 rounds into the air. I'd seen someone running around the outskirts of the airfield and was a little curious about what his reaction would be. Z's swarmed in on me- walking about 2km/h. The dude came over as well as I ran around herding z's- asked me what I was doing and I told him I was going to go lock them all up in the warehouse. He said "neat idea." I gave him the weapon since I had no intention of using it and he politely refused it... asking me to kill him instead. "Okay." I bludgeoned him with a pickaxe and set back on my task. It took awhile- but I ran around the entire airfield and collected every zombie I could find- then with pickaxe outstretched marched them (at walking pace) to the large hangars on the far east side of the airfield and locked them in. While I was on my way someone in a motorcycle helmet and a long gun (not my favourite kind of person as some reading this story will attest) snuck up alongside one of the structures (camo building I think) and I could see him looking at me. He just stood there- watching. "Is that your marching band?" his voice almost blew my eardrums out over VOIP. "And you're their leader?" We had a brief chat as I paraded my brainless toddlers to the first warehouse and locked them inside. He took off to the west and I didn't see him again. I then ran around and killed every chicken / rooster I could find and then set up a fire right outside the warehouse. That way I could caution people who were going to go in and share some chicken- or I would get killed. I wasn't too concerned about that. But nobody came... Until I hid my guy around back of the warehouse and walked away from the game for a few minutes. On my return I saw a Z running at me... then past me. I looked around and a guy had just run past me- I didn't get his attention but quickly returned to my fire. Waited... waited... nothing. Boring! I took a long way around to Zelenegorsk looting and just going about my business... hearing the occasional gunshot in the distance and really enjoyed the work devs put into that. I was mincing around the base in Zel and started heading west from there down the valley when I started taking sniper fire. Really? The guy kept shooting, and shooting, and missing, and missing... I drew my knife and started running around trying to get a bead on the guy- no idea where he was but the "crack / thump" started getting closer together- and closer... then I got hit once but I think it just wrecked one of my protector cases... then it was really close but couldn't see anyone. Then I was dead. Respawned... made my way back to Zel- took me about 40 minutes or so but this time I approached from the south. I saw a little bit of movement throughout the town but nothing fussy so I moved into town to see what was going on. I was walking down the middle of the street with next to nothing... just west of the school branching slightly south when a guy in a yard on my right caught my eye. He was already drawn on me and fired- hitting me. "What the fuck dude? We're in experimental." "I'm experimenting." "Then experiment by killing me with a fish hook, ya fucking tard." Sure enough he / and / or his buddies ran me down and killed me. I don't expect a ceasefire through exp but I do expect a bit more effort put into it than just ambushing and mowing down freshies inland. Go to stable for that shit.

Maybe when people can host their own servers... or mod.

PvP is a necessary evil that allows you to kill someone, cut them up and then force feed their fresh spawn their old dead body raw- especially if they were dicks. There is definitely an intriguing challenge in reading a situation, interpreting someone's actions, assessing their movements or communication and certifying a situation either cold or hot. I'm quite proud to point out I went about 1000 hours without killing someone other than in 1 situation I can think of where it was shoot or eat a fire ax... Up until that point I'd always just roll over and play dead hoping to bore the opponent to death with my cowardice. That changed after awhile... and now the big fun in the threat of PvP is in that constant assessment and control of a situation where you really don't pose any REAL threat to anyone (their character is disposable and you don't threaten a person in real life- ie: it's hard to negotiate when you have nothing to lose) other than their gear and their time it took to accumulate it. So picking the battles that you know you can win if it goes that far versus staying clear of the ones that might be "close." Taking the chance of approaching someone in hopes that you may actually be able to help them- then assessing their actions as someone who may actually be baiting you or delaying you until their cavalry show up... I hate the sensationalism the youtubers have drawn to pvp since being loud and fucking obnoxious seems to be the norm in basically every situation- and I think it's inspired a really shitty proliferation of screeching fucktards within the dayz community... but they're actually pretty easy to avoid if you stay off the beaten trails between the coast and the airport or other military installations- in the woods with your camp and a low profile... just doing your own thing and picking a fight on your own terms. I do like the fact that I get to choose.

My first few hours - alone but so much fun
eno replied to ChefAngelo's topic in New Player Discussion
Not going to get a ton of folks in there until .61 drops on stable. .60 is uber stale right now and I'd like to say a wide range of dedicated players are either on sabbatical or in exp servers. -

Oh we pitched the super friendly routine quite awhile ago. We still give people a chance but our risk tolerance is way down. We'll definitely keep you posted about where we'll end up regarding serving. I know some would like a private 1PP- I've never played one but as we get further towards immersion it might be the right thing to do- unfortunately there's not a huge demand for it. Regardless- we'll keep this thread updated when we make the move back to hosting. Judging by the recent developments in exp. I can't imagine it'll be too long. -
3 things... hmmm. Well... - Realistic potential damage to hands when punching things like gorka helmets. - Ability to craft targets out of hay bails, paper and pens for arrows, guns, axes, knives... - A way to tell outside temperature.

A couple other points... 1) Watch for baited traps. Occasionally you'll find a lightly geared player hanging out in an area and they will engage you in conversation. You'll ask them questions and they may appear to hesitate to answer. As you're talking to them (they could, after all, be just hanging out enjoying the game- trying to figure things out), make sure you're using your ASWD keys to move around... sniper shuffle so to speak. These guys can, quite often I'm afraid, be supported by heavily geared guys (holding his gear in a tent or barrel nearby) who are just looking to practice their aim on you. The shuffling will signal to the group that you're not a total noob... and you may run and they'll kill you anyway but you have a better chance of just ducking away as soon as your spidey senses start tingling. Shuffling will indicate you've played the game... you know the risks and are talking anyway. Some guys will just let you go based on that- others will kill you even if the last thing they want to do on earth is kill you because that's how it works. 1a) One of the really, really big tells is guys stalling for time- asking you the same question... asking things that are totally just irrelevant. This situation generally occurs moreso when you're the party with the advantage. Let's say you've got some weapons and the freshie doesn't. Or you have some friends alongside and the stranger is alone. He'll stall for time as guys come from further up or down the coast... they'll ambush you and take your stuff for their recently respawned buddy. Our group- when we're playing, anyway- is called the Helpy Helpers... and we're called that because we went to extraordinary lengths for a long time to try and ensure that killing someone was the absolute last resort. Well, except DaveB... he has callouses on his trigger finger (and dry chemical from a fire extinguisher on his forehead). Anyway- we got taken by this or ALMOST got taken by this enough times that we agreed that if any of us got any impression that this bait and wait tactic was being used on us that we kill them- no matter how geared or fresh. I played almost a thousand hours before I actually killed anyone and I got so fucking sick of being nice, lured into areas and murdered either by gangs or by snipers I finally made the turn. Keep in mind- right now people are bored... especially in high pops people just run around killing one another on the coast and most of the others are whittling sticks in the NW somewhere. Talking to anyone within a kilometer or so of the coast is very risky and as you start making your way into the center of the map things start to become less hostile. You begin running into more people who are playing the game... or nobody at all. Your encounters become more believable- and it can be interesting. Exceptions to this rule will be around military bases and chopper spawns. Good luck.

WOW, Lucky I found that heatpack, said no one ever

I just use guts as heat packs. Animal or people... doesn't matter. -

Thanks for dropping in and saying hello guys. We definitely intend on lifting things back off again in the near future. Private? Public? 50 pop? not sure yet- but the gang remains passionate in providing reliable, mature moderation for folks to visit once .61 drops. -
Constant spam of hyperthermic ever since update last night..
eno replied to Thea.bloodsoul's topic in General Discussion
I'll take fixing vehicles over your petty little boy problems young douchenozzle. I'll also pay 40 dollars tonight to get drunk. The investment will last only a single night and still not entitle me to talk to the bartender like a twat. So how about you cool off and go run along the rocks north of Severograd for awhile... see if that trims your fur a little. -

Okay I got rammy and had a few minutes so I went and updated the server messages. They hadn't been updated since .60 dropped lol. Anyway- I'll send gameservers our intentions and take it from there. Again, listing the 14th as the last day since it makes sense. -

Hey folks. Not sure if this will catch anyone's attention or not. Our pop is down and most of the Helpy Helpers have been in hibernation. We're going to be pulling the server down in about a week. Our billing date is October 15 so I expect we'll have it down on the 14th. We'll be posting server messages to that effect to give people plenty of time to pick up their camps. .60 got uber stale with terrible vehicle performance and reliability in terms of the spawning / sync and it was tough to stay motivated as the pop started to drop system wide. We'll likely pick it back up again as .61 comes to stable. -
Count me in as one of those 15. I stay particularly clear as patches grow stale. Hacks start to make their way mainstream and further upset the balance of time versus reward. I remain somewhat optimistic that it'll play out reasonably well eventually but I'm extremely hesitant to get excited about base building and helicopters considering how successful vehicles have been so far.

After feeding them human guts... Yes. I like the way you think.

I'll admit I didn't know from the beginning of development that choppers were going to be included. If I did, well... I'd have thought it was as fucking stupid as I do now. But so be it... I guess if everyone but me knew from the beginning they were going to be rolled in then I'm an idiot.

Yes. Definitely a staple of all open world survival video games. Or no. It's been a year and a half since they introduced the V3S into DayZ and all vehicles are currently, erm -Please be patient with me as I try to word this as politely as possible- broken as fucking all-get-out (nailed it). I have very little confidence in any "realistic helicopter" operation any time in any future considering what little it's going to add to the experience other than a glitchy diversion that will get old much sooner than it finds a stable configuration. If you guys want dayz mod so much- then go play that. I wish people would stop trying to transform DayZ SA Vanilla into what the Mod was. I'll concede that there is a bunch of new tech that can benefit gameplay so someone taking SA and modding it down to the basic pew pew fuckfest would have benefits for those pursuing that type of experience. Why they're wasting any resources on choppers for vanilla is just further evidence that the dev team has lost sight of its original destination having spent too much time staring at the roadmap in search of tourist traps instead of paying attention to where it was going.
