    Bugged Weapons

One of the guys I run with had a weird instance happen to him. It began innocently enough while hunting a deer / elk / gazelle- whatever it was. Anyway he takes aim and immediately starts laughing because his character took on some weird pose... he looked okay to me but he said his sights were all wonked out. So he logged out and back in again to try and clear the issue....came back in and the server was fine but his gun and half his stuff was gone. Anyway- to the OP... there's not much we can do about it regardless of user error or game error. "Don't get attached to your gear" might as well be the game slogan for 1.0 as it has been for every version before it.
  2. Speaking of which... does that F11 rag glitch still work?

You just drowned in the bathtub with a spoonful of water in it. Somehow you missed the entire point of what I said while acknowledging it at the same time. You're a remarkable person.
  4. That wasn't really what the intent was- at least from what I understood. GSPs were to provide that functionality to admins on a control panel. Others were able to integrate it into their existing backup script for those who asked for it...

    Any PVP shooter. Done.
  6. Yeah I kind of figured... I guess it doesn't really matter- figured maybe they pared it back for 1.0 until they could get ahead of the network / server performance or something. Really I'm just shielding my sanity from the reality of this whole situation.
  7. And some of the GSPs won't even allow you to do that... Gameservers didn't even know about the new rule until when I told them yesterday and ostensibly said it had no bearing on more frequent saves. I agree with everything you're saying- it's frustrating. And they (Devs) release this mess a couple weeks before going away on holidays. Everyone deserves a vacation but if the plan is to release prematurely to catch a money train over Christmas then take fucking holidays in October or February. This whole situation is unreal.
  8. Yes I remember those days too- quite a challenge trying to keep ahead of everything with ColdAtrophy and Emu... They were collectors extraordinaire! This is what the "latest" (current) existing wiki says as per your link. Item / Time Traps / 1 Hour Tents/Barrels / 7 Days Backpacks / 4 Hours Crafted Bags / 1 Hour Other Crafted Items / 5 Minutes All Other Items / 30 Minutes I wonder if there is new data within game files that we could use to give people more realistic expectations?

It's a chilling assessment. There's a saying circulating around the internet about the difference between men and women and this whole situation reminds me of it. Without getting into specifics for fear of being strawmanned to death, the part of the statement that I refer to here is that we weren't intended to do all the same things. Since the beginning (I wasn't involved in the mod- but got in relatively early on the standalone) I've been in the league of players who cherished that DayZ was trying to be something that other games either couldn't be or didn't want to be. And that was fine- DayZ gained significance through the creativity of its player base and the path towards uncharted territory with all the thistles and brambles that entails. As soon as it branched off the unbeaten path over to the paved highway of other established titles that did LITERALLY everything better... DayZ plummeted out of significance into a shadow of itself while it's loyal player base, seeking inspiration, stood in the doorway with an empty flashlight.

    Base building waste of time

Okay well sorry you got caught in the middle of optimism and frustration there. I remember our talks from way back when (that was like two years ago)... those were happy times. Thanks for asking about ZH- He still sits behind me on his own computer when I'm back home but he's engaged in other faster twitch titles right now. We do talk about getting him back into DayZ but I think he's letting me "git gud" again so that I can help him wade through the state of the game with a little more ease. I could sense after we'd been murdered a few times that he was starting to tire of my "talk first, shoot second" attitude. The Helpy Helpers are a much less tolerant bunch now... I want this title to succeed as much as the next person since I thoroughly enjoyed all of the experiences that inspired the contributions to that DayZ thread... I'd like to be back in the .3x where we knew what worked and what didn't and we expected the game to be a mess. We ALL knew what we signed up for and being on the ragged edge of development was as thrilling a prospect as that encounter in the Gorka police station... We'll get there somehow- but between now and when the game is better than it was I think we're in for some discomfort.

5 years ago it was the survival game of the future. Now it’s a 5 year old survival game that just crawled out of the womb prematurely and undeveloped.

    Okay we cleared that up.

I'll keep my eye open for one... I'm working around Zel / Pav on a pub. Where's your dude?

    Stash help

Not sure if we can bury stuff right now... though I've seen something about burying a sea chest but I think that was disabled after .63. Sorry- haven't been mucking around with that so hopefully someone else can help. As for the cold- you need codeine pills... and take multivitamins too since the literature suggests that that can help speed up recovery as well as build up resistance.

Your optimism knows no boundaries! Kidding. Happy New Year to you too.

I guess we'll see in a few days, won't we.

    Base building waste of time

It provides a realistic expectation for people who haven't had 6 years of exposure to this title. I'm not new to the game, nor the forums- there are times to be positive like acknowledging high points in the game, sharing experiences and interacting in the community. Then there is time for being realistic. This persistence shit isn't going away in a few days and it's practically idiotic to suggest it. Smarten up.

    Because staying positive has helped.

    Base building waste of time

I know you're not new around here but your optimism is... hmmm... Well let's just say that getting a fix for broken persistence in a few days may not be in the cards. Don't get me wrong- I think everyone wants one but "in a few days" isn't realistic.
  20. Yeah I agree with you- ultimately I plucked my definition from the original post and one from Spag. 4 times a day... hourly... whatever it looks like I suppose is whatever a person works out with their GSP. Suffice to say it seems like gameservers just isn't interested in being very helpful. Anyone else have experience with other GSPs that have been more cooperative? @spaggie who are you guys dealing with?
  21. From what I gather they're saying "we can restore from our 1 backup a day whenever you'd like but you can't back up your files with more frequency." What I'm confused about is that it seems obvious to me that what the new rule indicates is up to "unlimited" backups with "unlimited" restores... I doubt unlimited is practical- but they didn't want to set a specific number so I get it. Let's say 4 times per day... But in reviewing the rule they have interpreted it differently... so now I'm left wondering if it's me who misinterpreted.
  22. Okay. So what I am reading here- and what I've read from another survivor is that the GSP can be asked to increase the rate at which backups are created. ie: by the original rule it was once per 24 hour period but it could now be, as mentioned by spag, 4 times per day. So I reached out to our GSP (Gamerservers.com) and asked them about setting up something new. Pretty much something more frequent... to ask if we could even do it. They said they didn't know what I was talking about so I pushed a little further with a link to this thread. This was the eventual reply: Hello, After looking at the new rules, we have implemented the ability to restore and wipe the persistence from the client area, however they do not state anything about the ability to create backups. Was there anything else that I could assist with today? Thank you, Am I missing something? And if I'm not missing something and it seems like Gameservers just isn't interested... then for those of you hovering on renting a server to explore base building with some extra security for awhile I recommend you look for another.
