@Kirov (DayZ) Those elements are generally not in... colds yes. They’re probably a mini patch from being implemented... and may just be bugged so I’ve been playing it safe with clean water and cooked meat. I wear boots and take my multivits... but I do see people just eating and drinking whatever walking around barefoot. Choose your own adventure... and take things as far as you want. Enjoy the ability to cut the corners a little if you desire but know it could change and you could develop bad habits.

Respectfully Kirov- we (the HH) are focused on vanilla official public servers and our experience has been reasonable. There are things this game does better than any other... It needs work- holy does it ever- but this is literally like taking a step back to .3x or so with better, smoother graphics in most cases. Personally, that was my favourite time- this isn't true of everyone, of course. Yes- a lot of survival elements have been suspended... a lot of the customization crafting, fishing, bow hunting etc... base building isn't reliable and persistence is... well- we all know where it is. But to come back and get reacquainted with the game and its broader fine points... check out some of the new(er) map areas... I do recommend it. Put 10 hours in... yeah maybe turn a blind I to the fact that every shed has a pea coat or denim skirt in it. Maybe ignore the fact that day servers in the browser are night and nights are days and days are days and nights are nights. There are inevitably ALWAYS going to be some glitches that exhaust our patience but I think as a culture that's what DayZ loyalists have evolved adapting to... I'm happy to blab around the forums about my disappointment in how the game got to where it is right now- and sometimes it makes me feel better but there are other times, like in game last night, where I enjoy still being a part of it and I think you will too. We suffer from the fact that we rode the game to where it was 2 months ago and return to it with what feels like 80% of it stripped away but there is a whole new community of people who never experienced that and are really enthusiastic about it. So... I'm just another guy... but I do recommend you come back and give official public servers a try. Tinker with base building on a small scale and leave the mods alone for a bit.

That blinding flash of light when you use binoculars for the first time in a session is annoying.

I've got a dude on a community public server... I don't do much with him- but I think he's currently around Sol on the east coast. Maybe we can tinker together at some point. I'll reach out to you in pm.

I've been amazed at some of the mistakes I've made that resulted in my favourite dudes being killed by zobs. You playing on official pubs?
-
Eh Chili- how's the tinkering going? What's going on out there?

@Badlywrapdkebab Where do you tend to hang out the most? What kind of servers?

Quiet couple nights... we're working up in the northern areas trying to keep Svet safe for those who are fresh and trying to play out the game. Kind of nice to not see a bunch of dead freshies laying around with stone knives hovering 4 feet above them. We had several positive interactions- only one shooting around the police station in town. I was hanging around waiting for Bam to join me, taking a quick look around some garages to the west when I got shot at a few times. Sounded close- but I wasn't sure from where. I naturally began my escape and evasion routine (basically Shift ASDWDASDAWSDADSAWWDAWDSAWDAWDSDAWDASDAWDAWDSAWDW) and while I looked over my shoulder saw zobs running east. I didn't see where they ended up but Bam got in and started taunting whoever it was over the town mass notification system. After a few minutes of Monty Python level taunting we headed back to the general area where I was shot at again. This time Bam saw the zobs collecting at the base of the police station. He is more aggressive than I am so before I'd even had a chance to get to him he'd already busted into the the building and started clearing it. I caught up finally and was able to provide some support but ultimately the dude had logged. So last night I figured I'd go on and see if I could find a car for us to tool around in on an official server. It didn't take long before I found my first one- buried almost up to the roof. Awesome. Then I made my way across a field where I saw a pony on the roof of a shed- glitching between the ground and the roof. Then I found a rare pig trying to tunnel through a rock face... I shot it with a pistol and looked forward to a little bacon BBQ- but after quartering it all the stuff disappeared. Then I looked at one of my standard suppressors in my kit and in spite of having not fired a shot through it it was ruined. Awesome. I found another car eventually- 4 wheels and not underground and after taking a quick look it had EVERYTHING except the radiator... even had a jerry can and a jug of oil in the inventory. I wanted to try and buy some time for some other Helpy Helpers to show up with the requisite parts so I stole the spark plug out of it- but nobody was around at the time. By the time I logged back on this morning it was gone. Ah well... today is another day.
-
Harumph. Well the helpy helpers will be waiting patiently for your return. Judging by what I've read so far I'll see you next year sometime lol.

Just change the topic to please delete... and change the message to please delete. A mod will generally delete it. Or just post a few pictures of a black screen saying that you wanted to enter a daylight server... They delete those ones too.

EMU! You're back!

One thing you might like to know is to keep your eyes open for the head lamp with the green strap... or at least green highlights. It's the one with the red light... not visible from as long a distance.

10 minutes seems consistent with what I've found... MAYBE 15?
-
Codeine cures it and multivits help avoid it.
-
yeah. I want my 90 seconds per change back. 5 server jumps is like 8 minutes of just sitting around “waiting to spawn.” Don’t worry- they’re talking about planning a meeting to fix it. according to their community update video you and everyone else just don’t know anything and are an idiot. With that said I have started filtering by ping and then organizing servers by the time column. It’s a little easier to find daytime ones that way.
-
Which server are you offering a ride on?
-
Yeah no kidding. We know what kind of company we’re talking about that is just sitting down to talk about 2019 roadmaps in the first 3 weeks of January 2019.
-
Ah- okay. That's a better view, thanks. Under a different set of circumstances I do understand where guys who are geared up get a little insecure around fresh spawns or even people with the silly getup... Especially on high pop servers, character animations are a fucking mess so one second a person is 10 feet away and the next time they're putting a burlap sac over your head and stuffing a kitchen knife in your belly. Anyway, hope it doesn't soil your approach...

Need to tell a little more of the story... that's like watching a police video with the first 10 minutes cut out of it. No context... Curious about the rest of the story though since I do appreciate your general approach... wondering what the full story is since in some instances what you're doing may not be understood if approached certain ways.

Cosmetic thing - When we die can we get to choose our character for respawn?
eno replied to cirkular's topic in Suggestions
Yeah this is really annoying since at least back in .61 or so if you died and respawned you just came back in with your normal person... I’m not sure if this was introduced in 62-63 or this is just a gem from 1.0 The development logic in suddenly randomizing your respawned character is bewildering/ unless it’s just another bug thrown on the pile. There is no reason to randomize it. Gender and ethnic diversity is provided to the game by being able to customize your character in the beginning or at our leisure- that’s sufficient. -
I remember we used to be able to put armed grenades in our inventory... so when they were removed from the inventory they would detonate. Same general idea.

We paint a very bleak picture of base building since that's pretty much the reality we're left with. With that said- a couple things I'm going to add: The functionality and building of a base is interesting and while time consuming learning the different elements and how they go together will inevitably be worthwhile. Distracting yourself for a couple hours (who am I kidding- many, many hours) in game KNOWING that what you're building will likely not last is not a total waste of time. Not EXACTLY, anyway. I mean... what else is there to do besides covet your favourite gear and maybe kill someone. I recommend you find some planks... find some sheet metal. Get some nails and a hammer. Build something... see how it works. Tear it down (see how that works and what's left). Cover it with camo netting if you find some... add some levels. Build some stairs. Find some more nails. Chop some trees down. Find some barbed wire. Find a combination lock. Build a fence. Get more nails. Don't build anything too elaborate- but do tinker with it so that when the time comes and things are actually working and somewhat protected (or you find a server as mentioned above that adds some mods that protect it) you can confidently make a plan for a righteous base and know how to build it. I have to shout out to @Parazight when I write all this since he blew my mind with a base he and a friend had been working on for awhile. I had some pretty low expectations but what they had created was really impressive to me. I knew it took quite some time to build and he knew that it could be erased at any moment- but I was really impressed with the base building functionality. I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the state of persistence and how that impacts base building in general- but the versatility of what you can create with the overall functionality was downright impressive. So take it for what it's worth... Whatever you build will be vulnerable however will also greatly enhance your knowledge of base building and what it entails.

Yes... pretty well documented problem with a few fixes available for private servers. There are quite a few threads on the subject but most basically state that vehicles that glitch into terrain, even if they are eventually accessorized are generally ruined either because of the gas tank glitch or the almost inevitable SpaceX launch candidate application.
