Yeah no kidding. We know what kind of company we’re talking about that is just sitting down to talk about 2019 roadmaps in the first 3 weeks of January 2019.

Ah- okay. That's a better view, thanks. Under a different set of circumstances I do understand where guys who are geared up get a little insecure around fresh spawns or even people with the silly getup... Especially on high pop servers, character animations are a fucking mess so one second a person is 10 feet away and the next time they're putting a burlap sac over your head and stuffing a kitchen knife in your belly. Anyway, hope it doesn't soil your approach...

Need to tell a little more of the story... that's like watching a police video with the first 10 minutes cut out of it. No context... Curious about the rest of the story though since I do appreciate your general approach... wondering what the full story is since in some instances what you're doing may not be understood if approached certain ways.

Cosmetic thing - When we die can we get to choose our character for respawn?
eno replied to cirkular's topic in Suggestions
Yeah this is really annoying since at least back in .61 or so if you died and respawned you just came back in with your normal person... I’m not sure if this was introduced in 62-63 or this is just a gem from 1.0 The development logic in suddenly randomizing your respawned character is bewildering/ unless it’s just another bug thrown on the pile. There is no reason to randomize it. Gender and ethnic diversity is provided to the game by being able to customize your character in the beginning or at our leisure- that’s sufficient. -
I remember we used to be able to put armed grenades in our inventory... so when they were removed from the inventory they would detonate. Same general idea.

We paint a very bleak picture of base building since that's pretty much the reality we're left with. With that said- a couple things I'm going to add: The functionality and building of a base is interesting and while time consuming learning the different elements and how they go together will inevitably be worthwhile. Distracting yourself for a couple hours (who am I kidding- many, many hours) in game KNOWING that what you're building will likely not last is not a total waste of time. Not EXACTLY, anyway. I mean... what else is there to do besides covet your favourite gear and maybe kill someone. I recommend you find some planks... find some sheet metal. Get some nails and a hammer. Build something... see how it works. Tear it down (see how that works and what's left). Cover it with camo netting if you find some... add some levels. Build some stairs. Find some more nails. Chop some trees down. Find some barbed wire. Find a combination lock. Build a fence. Get more nails. Don't build anything too elaborate- but do tinker with it so that when the time comes and things are actually working and somewhat protected (or you find a server as mentioned above that adds some mods that protect it) you can confidently make a plan for a righteous base and know how to build it. I have to shout out to @Parazight when I write all this since he blew my mind with a base he and a friend had been working on for awhile. I had some pretty low expectations but what they had created was really impressive to me. I knew it took quite some time to build and he knew that it could be erased at any moment- but I was really impressed with the base building functionality. I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the state of persistence and how that impacts base building in general- but the versatility of what you can create with the overall functionality was downright impressive. So take it for what it's worth... Whatever you build will be vulnerable however will also greatly enhance your knowledge of base building and what it entails.

Yes... pretty well documented problem with a few fixes available for private servers. There are quite a few threads on the subject but most basically state that vehicles that glitch into terrain, even if they are eventually accessorized are generally ruined either because of the gas tank glitch or the almost inevitable SpaceX launch candidate application.
-
There are still a couple things you need to be careful of... in particular the Fkey used for putting your hands up will actually drop the weapon in your hand... which KIND OF makes sense since stashing it in your inventory again kind of conflicts the purpose... But whether it's a bug or not just be aware that that key (and others, possibly? I haven't tested all the Fkeys with that in mind) will make you drop your weapon and not return it to your inventory.

I was going to say- when you have no room left to replace your item- say a hotbar item- all the hotbar turns red since you can’t switch. I have my issues with the game but devs get props from me for that feature.
-
Other than just learning how to build different things to exercise your creative side there are few reasons to build anything since the whole thing can be wiped accidentally because of a persistence failure or disassembled by a douche canoe in a fraction of the time it took to build it. And no- if you build a base on any server it's only ever going to be on that specific server instance... Some private community servers are able to enhance backups and minimize the persistence failures... but they're the minority.

Used to be that these stutters indicated a player entering a network bubble about 1.6 km from you... it was like a handshake between clients saying “honey, I’m home!” I don’t recall the exact distance- but since I started DayZ again I’m experiencing these stutters AND subsequently running into characters at an undeniably frequent rate. Sure- could still just be a total coincidence... but I’m thinking no. Anyone else experiencing these stutters and have a tangible alternate explanation? Let’s leave my system out of it since I’m driving an i7 6700k at 4.2ghz, a 1080ti with 16GB of RAM and running the game off an m.2 nvme with a solid internet connection.

While paying a bit more attention to this and playing with a few friends we've definitely found a few different types of in game stutters. Graphical: These are continuous, long term slideshow style glitches that are confusing but generally resolved with a restart or after a couple of minutes. The fact that I get these is amazing to me but there we are. These aren't frequent but do happen enough to get mentioned... Server Network: If all players, no matter how spread out, get a sizable short term hiccup (not weather related). These happen at a rate of about once every 5 minutes or so... so not incredibly prevalent but certainly noticeable. Weather: Any significant change in wind / weather effect seems to impact anyone in range of said effects. Occur particularly with the introduction or removal of wind effect. There's also a weird but brief screen flicker that occurs regularly as it starts to get dark. Intermittent hiccup through players: Network handshake of some sort between either zombie spawns or player network bubble interactions.

The rail system in DayZ has always intrigued me if only because it actually looks like it could function- but nothing has ever been done for it. We talked about those hand car "pump" style trollies a long time ago but I've never seen anything else about it. Maybe a rail vehicle of some description that can be run off a truck battery or something. Is anyone aware of any practical application for the rail system in the works for DayZ or is it just eye candy?

Some new uses for wire and rope come to mind...

It was REALLY stuttering today for me... this morning anyway. Just general graphic stuttering that wouldn’t go away. Related to your issue? Maybe? was it today or all the time?
-
How on earth did I miss that?! Curious about its functionality. Be really cool if it’s a thing though.

I noticed on the black tactical shirt there is a US flag on the shoulder. I don't have a flag on my grey tactical... but others may also have a US flag. I thought it would be neat if the game could detect your IP (which I think it can?) and put the flag from your nation on the shoulder instead of just a US one? Just a thought. Anyone with some smarts have any idea if this is plausible or just too much work to do? Maybe just pulling it from the Steam profile might be more realistic? Thanks.
-
I "also" get it from the weather- particularly when it goes from blustery to no wind and back again. This is entirely separate, however, from the stuttering I'm talking about.

Recorded transcript of BI DayZ dev team 1.0 pre-release meeting leaked...
eno posted a topic in General Discussion
Recorded transcript of DayZ 1.0 release. Unfortunately we only hear voices… and we’re not sure who is who… but you get the idea. Speaker 1 (in charge): “Hello everyone and welcome to our 1.0 launch meeting. Everyone has been working hard over the last 5 years to put out the best product we can for a 1.0 stable release so let’s go around the room for a status update. First of all, let’s talk about the map.” Speaker 2: “Okay yeah, that’s me. The map is in pretty good shape. Graphics are solid and a clear step up from our origins. We only have about a dozen unique structures and 2 trees so performance is pretty good. Foliage is thicker making it a little easier to camouflage tents, barrels and bases.” Speaker 1: “That’s great news. You bring up tents, barrels and bases. How’s persistence working? I trust that it’s all ready to go?” Muffled scoffs and at least one stifled laugh. Speaker 3: “Suffice to say we’ll need to asterisks that one since persistence is irregularly irregular. Servers are crashing and everything or random things are getting wiped- we don't know why. Testers can’t confirm whether everything is wiped or just the unlucky few and are unwilling to restore from backups for fear of helping some and screwing many.” Speaker 1: “Okay well at least a player can rest assured that the gear they have on them is safe?” Speaker 4: “*Coughs* Not exactly. There are quite a few instances in our pre-release testing where random gear will just evaporate from the character. Sometimes gun stance glitches cause weird results that should be remedied with a game client restart… And it seems to relieve it by dumping the weapon that was being held as well as other random items.” Speaker 1: “Problem solved I guess hey?” Speaker 2: “I’m not sure that I…” Speaker 1: “Okay well if guns are a little funky at least we can lean on the bold, crisp nature of our melee combat?” Speaker 5: “I wouldn’t commit to using words like bold and crisp. Unfortunately our collision models are all over the place so zombies will be swinging one way and hitting the other. Meanwhile characters can be swinging directly at them and miss entirely or at least not register a hit. One player on the forums described it as a ballet dance in a phone booth with a tire wrapped around your neck.” Speaker 1: “Who said that?” Speaker 5: “Some guy named Eno.” Speaker 1: “Meh- he’s a moron anyway. Alright, moving on. Evidently we have some issues with various aspects of combat. How about survival?” Speaker 6: “Survival mechanisms are all on point. We’ve even got it now so that logging in will make characters bleed profusely. They might not even notice until they’re almost dead… that will surely provide our player base with the survival challenges they crave! Dump some snow and rain on them and we've made it almost impossible to get ahead!” Speaker 2: “I’m not sure that was the…” Speaker 1: “Perfect! Moving on...” Speaker 6: “Well no- let him finish. You got something you want to say to me?!” Speaker 1: “Settle the fuck down you. Okay so we’ve added some snow and rain… people are going to need to stay warm. How about starting fires?” Speaker 4: “It’s a study in frustration… People need to spend quite a bit of time running around chopping down trees, then splitting things to certain sizes and then loading them into the fire place at certain times… but not being able to load other items until after the fire is pretty much out at which point they need to go and get bark or other kindling. By the time they’ve run around and done that they’re usually freezing and trying to put a log on the fire requires placing the log in exactly the right place… usually taking a few tries.” Speaker 1: "What about vehicles? How are they working?" Speaker 3: "This one is another mess- vehicles are literally out there killing random people at will as soon as they get in if they’re not complete. We're actually thinking of rebranding the game to "Christine."" Speaker 1: “She sounds hot. How is our daytime / nighttime looking?” Speaker 2: “Daytime is good- nighttime looks like a person turned the lights off and put duct tape over their eyes...” Speaker 1: ”So we’re good there? I mean night is supposed to be dark, right?” Speaker 2: “This isn’t just dark... it’s as if the universe collapsed into your own pupil.” Speaker 1: “That sounds extremely unpleasant… I love it! What’s up with loot distribution how’s that looking?” Speaker 6: “We have firmly established Chernarus as a primary exporter of pea coats, generators and battery powered accessories. Unfortunately it has about 1 9v battery per hundred square miles and vehicles but no sparkplugs. These are more rare than finding a zombie with a winning lotto ticket onboard.” Speaker 1: “Sounds like a winner!” Speaker 4: “But-“ Speaker 1: “Okay then... Anyone feel like we’re not ready for our 1.0 launch?” Speaker 5: "To be honest I don't feel like we're getting full bang for our bucks spent creating the rooster sound. I'd like to make sure players hear it at LEAST 4 times per minute." Speaker 1: "Any objections?" Silence. Speaker 1: “Right, then it's settled. Roosters for days. Everyone got their lambos picked out? We launch at dawn!” Meeting adjourned.- 20 replies

Clearly the limit of your ability. Enjoy. -
A few of the Helpy Helpers headed over to our old stomping grounds in Svet yesterday to see what was going on up there. Turns out there's quite a consistent flow of traffic through there- many people who are interested in playing the game and enjoying some of what finer points still remain after the transition to 1.0. People who spawn in svet and don't just kill themselves are generally newer to the game and less interested in PVP / KOS... this made the trip there worthwhile since it was exactly these types of people we wanted to help out. BAM, B and I settled into town in our old overwatch stations providing good visibility throughout the town. It wasn't long before we stumbled into our first survivor. B had moved into one of the piano houses in the middle of town and before he'd been in place even a minute he heard footsteps downstairs. "Did one of you guys just come into my building?" B asked over Discord. "Nope!" Bam and I replied instantly. Bam was very close so he rushed over and I wasn't far behind. A lightly geared survivor came into view- with a splitting ax in hand and a red motorcycle helmet. Those of you who have followed my many long and often rambling tales probably know I'm not a fan of motorcycle helmets. Ever. "Hello!" B called out to the stranger when it appeared upstairs. "Respectfully, I'd prefer it if you didn't come in this room." "Why," the female voice asked quaintly. "Are you pooping?" It was a very witty response from someone who was clearly not new to the game. "No... I'm not pooping I just don't want you to come in here." She stayed upstairs, holding the ax out- Bam came up to the first landing on the stairs. "Oh!" she said when she turned and saw Bam- kind of a feigned startled response. "Hi!" She started moving towards the door leading to the room B was in and asked if he wanted the door closed. "No that's fine... I'm not going to-" she closed the door anyway. Interesting. Bam moved up the stairs and I managed to aggro a zombie on my way over so I had to deal with it as it ran in the house. She heard me slicing and dicing and, while still moving around upstairs, asked if there were bad guys outside. "No, those are my guys," B explained, "and they're good guys- but we'd prefer if you just moved along." She started glitching all over the place (which added to the level of awesome, I assure you) since we were in a high pop. I finally made it up the stairs to cover the other two. She didn't seem very threatening so we let it play out- but there was absolutely NO doubt in any of our minds that she was talking to someone else over 3PP and delaying the interaction. "She sounds just like a woman that runs with Tope on youtube," B said to us. "Can you put your ax away?" Bam asked- and she obliged between glitches. "Thanks." So now all of us are in this quasi stalemate- I'm pretty sure if shit went pear shaped we'd have all shot ourselves a la reservoir dogs. "Do you run with Tope on youtube?" B asked. "Uh- who the fuck and whatnow?" she retorted indignantly. I laughed way too hard at that. B didn't find it funny as his alarum bells rang off the hook. "We need to go." "Excuse me, but I am a strong, independent female gamer!" B finally exited the room he was in with the intent of pushing past her and for all of us to just de-escalate the situation. He was bushed out completely and she really latched onto that. "Oh! Look at you! Do you mind if I put just one red bobble on you for Christmas?" I was literally just sitting in the stairs- aiming at her yes- but kind of enjoying this whole thing. She wasn't new to this. Yeah, pretty sure she was going to need to die at some point in spite of our best intentions but man she was playing. B just backed up into the room and closed the door- showing incredible restraint. He knew we didn't like killing newer players so he was doing a remarkable job just trying to play by our ethos. Bam- who says almost everything with a chuckle- had grown weary and he finally said (without chuckling), "Yeah, you can take off now." "It sounds EXACTLY like her- and her replies are delayed..." B reiterated on Discord. "Yeah-" I said to her, trying to be pleasant about it. "We're all good but you need to leave." She ripped her pants off. "No! You need to take your shit and leave." 'Good lord this is awesome,' I thought. She put her pants back on and started making her way down the stairs where the dead zob was laying. "Oh, who is this now?" she asked with feigned amazement. "Zombie." "Looks like she's seen better days..." "Not recently." Bam went to post a watch on the windows and B came down with me to see her out. She checked out the zombie for a few seconds then said, "Is this your hotel?" B was tired with being polite, but remained such. "Respectfully, you just need to leave." "Yes sir!" She said, voice drenched in sarcasm. "How come-" "CONTACT! On the road coming towards us," BAM interrupted over discord. B moved around the corner halfway through her next witty comment and shot her in the duodenum about 6 times. We didn't even check her inventory. "Time to go."

I will say The stutters also used to indicate zombies being activated or spawned into some areas... which may still be true but like you said maybe it’s nothing.

Went to the coast fully geared to murder freshies. Wow.
