    That's just Crazy talk, Para!

    Stable Update 1.15

POW! That's about it. (Probably beyond the teams' technical abilities, without breaking the game, though...unfortunately)

    Stable Update 1.14

A bit of clarity and humility regarding my last post about the Halloween Update being more trouble than it's worth.... My default "rant" is usually to blame the Dev Team for their seemingly poor QA prior to releasing patches, Updates, Content...and in the past few years this would be a common post on the forums as everyone generally was pretty exhausted by the lack of progress the game was making. When the less than stellar "1.0" launch happened we all thought this game had finally bit the dust, and yet, the Team pulled it out of the fire and have mostly smoothed out the game and have provided enough content that the original game scope is being reflected. This was by no means an easy task, as I'm sure there were some pretty weird dynamics within the studios between the EA 0.144 and 0.63 builds. The messaging was the real issue, in my opinion... as it was extremely hard to believe any news coming out of the Studio due to an almost perfect track record of not meeting deadlines or delivering on their content. I know that the dedicated fans of the SA were no help, of course...as we had so many hours invested in a vision of the game that was just not where it "should" have been...had we listened to the press releases. It seems that the message was received loud and clear and the Team are providing accurate and realistic communications to the fanbase as well as maintaining a steady course forward for the title. I personally left the Forums when I felt there was more to criticize than there was to compliment and it grew tiresome to constantly see others equally (or much more intensely) outraged that the Standalone had not magically become a perfectly polished game by year 8. 😉 I firmly maintain that I had the right to be critical and the authority to be nasty at times, as it was the easiest way to echo my personal frustrations regarding the glacier pace of improvements from one build to the next. My own comments were not directed to anyone in general for the most part, but without hearing from the Dev Team in person we were given contradictory and often downright misleading information regarding the status of certain fixes, patches, content additions, build releases, etc. I switched off the Forums and focused instead on working with what we had. When Community Servers were finally going...and the Mod community kicked in to high gear, everything changed. It was the single greatest step for BI since Dean Halls' keynote reveal for the Standalone. It created a "buffer" between the true Vanilla builds and the "dream" game we all wanted from the outset. It allowed those who had grown disillusioned with the lack of content and polish within the game to enjoy the DayZ experience in ways that showed just how epic the adventures could be, once the hurdles had been overcome. This was my way of keeping the faith and I honestly still love this game, dearly. I count on it for my "IRL switch-off" time and continue to be amused, spooked, and immersed in this game even after 6000 hours. It truly StandsAlone for me. 🙂 I commented that the Dev Team were "less than mature" in their decision to implement special content builds for holiday times and wished they would stay on task towards delivering more authentic content. I should give them credit, instead, for having their act together enough that they can now do things like this without it impacting parallel tasks and deliverables. It shows me that the processes in place at the Studio are, indeed, working....and it time for me to let the pain go! Thanks Team. Been here since the Mod, and have not regretted any of the journey.

    DayZ Update 1.14

Could be worse..... You could be me...running a Community Server.....and having your Game Versions totally screwed up because of these pointless and infantile little theme updates. I swear the Dev Team are 16 year-old, part-time volunteers!

    Nights fixed in 1.14?

I'll say the obvious, in response to your concerns.... There are MANY Community Servers that have tweaked the night setting to their liking. You have many options as to how long it is...how bright it is...and how the player perceives it. I know many folks don't want to get wrapped up in servers with a massive list of Mods of every kind, but some offer simple things like loot balancing and night settings to give the player a more realistic experience... You just need to ask around and playtest for a bit and you will find what you are looking for, I'm sure.

Is there a value for Bear Health?

Thanks for pointing me to that file, my man.

Is there a value for Bear Health?

I just need to slightly increase the hit points on Bears, so they are tougher to kill. Seemed reasonable, but there does not seem to be an obvious setting in the server files for animal damage modification. Any Ideas? Thanks.

problem with the bears and wolves respawn time

I am following this post....as I am also curious about the animal configs and settings.

    Regarding the toxic areas

Also bear in mind that Toxic or Irradiated Zones make an excellent tool for server owners to balance the loot. High-Tier areas with good Mil loot are usually "End-Game" areas, as you then become fully capable of surviving the rest of the challenges. As there will be options for Static AND Dynamic zones, this gives us the opportunity to add a layer of risk to the experience without drastically reducing the actual items. I like it. And I will be implementing Static Zones to the Mil Bases, and will have Dynamic Zones as long as they can be consistently configured.

anyone have an idea for 1.08?

Figures they will get 1.08 out shortly…. And it will completely screw up the DayZ Expansion Mod, now that it just got released! Call me a pessimist....
  11. Probably not the first to post this....but..... Pow!

    Rostow new Map

Just a hint on your map, if you don't mind.... Make sure to take your time setting up the infected and animal spawns... Seems like it is very frustrating trying to add more wolves, bears and infected on the existing maps by editing the XML files....and it always is needed. If you want your map to be popular I suggest having Wolf spawns inside town areas as well, to simulate what would really be happening in them after they were abandoned. And keep up the good work!
  13. philbur

How to add a new animal event?

Going to follow this…. While I do not have any answers for you @DeniedPickle, I also would like to know. I have used Hen and Cow Territories to allow Bears and Wolves to spawn within towns.... But so far, only Bears are working. It would be nice to have a clear and consistent way of controlling the Ai Spawns.

    Rostow new Map

Excellent! I am really liking the density of the area. I like having a very large map, but a smaller map that has a big, sprawling city is very interesting. Keep up the effort!

    Stable Update 1.06

Yikes! As most of you long-timers probably know... I am a ferocious abuser of Ellipsis in my posts... It also happens to be a writing nuance that can be used to indicate/replace the social cue of pausing to consider the next train of "thought". I personally am an extremely articulate public speaker with a tad verbose way of making my point (which is, admittedly, a tad annoying for most) but typing messages in a text becomes almost awkward, as it lacks that ever so crucial aspect of facial expression and visual cues to add color and context to your conversation. I just wanted to chime in on that, as it sort of gave me pause for thought...and I trust you to not make similar assumptions when you read my drivel. I have found these Forums both cathartic and exasperating, in mostly equal measure, but it has served a valuable role in my ability to stay loyal to this title over the last 6 (holy shit...I just said SIX!...) years, and I attribute most of that to you fellow DayZ fans who keep me entertained and keep me honest. Cheers! And have a safe Holidays!

    Stable Update 1.06

Regardless if your response was warranted.....really? Nice to see folks keeping the forum cerebral.
  17. philbur

DayZ, you are killing yourself by doing this.

WTF? How the crap did @Parazightdeserve that kind of response? And @justice5150 if you took my own personal reply as an attack then you honestly are not being fair or reasonable. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here, and I sympathize with your bitterness...as we ALL have suffered similar feelings at one point or another. But my dear Survivor....When others with many years and thousands of hours invested in this game offer their perspective (or criticisms) then you should at least consider the source, and not immediately assume the worst. Peace, Brother...

DayZ, you are killing yourself by doing this.

Well....I wont go as far as telling you to stop bitching. This is an open forum, and you can "bitch" all you want. However, only your point on the Inventory bug is accurate, in my opinion. If food spawns are too low, or other random (I mean not EVERY player experiences these) glitches seem to break the game for you, then you are simply frustrated and fed up with the seemingly endless string of poorly released feature updates. Try to be specific when you criticize the current state of the game, as I actually think there is a chance that the devs are paying a bit more attention to us lately. By posting a rant that contains mixed levels of relevant concerns just adds to the noise. "Inventory Bug.....BAD! …..Fix it!.... Thank You!" 😉

    Experimental Update 1.06

You are NOT alone, my man! This is one of the coolest ways to experience DayZ....Absolutely in agreement with you!

1.06 Testing for Server Owners and Modders

There is also the idea of locking client game versions... It's great to have constantly updated game files through the Steam service, but there are downsides to it as well. Just simply adding a toggle to either "Keep Game Updated to latest Version" or "Manually Install Latest Version" would definitely go a long way in giving us a more reliable Community Server experience. I understand there are CLE considerations, but it should at least be an option.

    On the Road to Livonia!

You didn't "payd" a lot of money, if you are playing on PC.... And when times get tough and you feel like venting here...just think about all those folks who blindly dropped 60 bucks on games like No Mans Sky, Fallout 76, and Red Dead Redemption 2. If you don't want to get screwed....then don't pull your pants down and beg for it. Sorry to be a bit abrasive, my man...but things are slowly starting to get sorted out (compared to the shit show of 1.0) and while there are still MANY issues to resolve, it really comes down to whether you are willing to let go of the pain from the previous disasters and just be a littler more patient and understanding. Trust me, as I have over 2000 hours in the SA and I have had my fair share of rants and rages at the devs and their decisions...but the fact is...the DLC is optional, and the core gameplay is indeed improving and being expanded upon...Stability is a concern, yes….but I think it boils down to the fact that BI just don't have the right formula in terms of staff expertise, management, and they also are still trying to come to grips with the game engine overall. Add to these challenges the fact that they chose to release on consoles DURING development and you honestly have to respect that this is going to be a mess for a while longer. Patience, and Peace, my fellow survivor...

    DayZ Livonia PC Open Beta

@Greensek is actually doing a great deal to restore my faith in the potential this game has to offer.... By being available and proactive, he is breathing new life in to the Forums' relevance. Keep it up! and Thanks.

    Map-combining possibilities?

BTW, I did hear back from a Dev on their current plans for the original "Private Hive" infrastructure and they have put this on the back burner, for the time being (understandably) so even the idea of having a couple of "connected" servers for creating a "world" that spans multiple maps while sharing a CLE and rulesets is probably something we won't see. All the more reason to keep the faith that someone will decide to take something like this on, but admittedly it would be immensely time consuming and require some serious modding/mapping skills. So how would that work...in Bohemia's eyes? Can someone accept Patreon, or "donations" to work on a project like this....and not get screwed over?
  24. Anyone hear any news out there about someone having a look at how to go about creating one large map based on C+ and the upcoming Livonia? I remember back in the MOD days it was kind of cool to "pretend" Chenarus was linked to Lingor, Tavania, and the others, but, since each map basically was a separate server, it never really "felt" vast... I can imagine this would be a fairly involved project, but since both maps are "officially-created" packages it would probably be less of a headache than working with 3rd-party custom terrain....right? The server workload alone might be the show stopper....but hey!.... Imagine the RP and PVE possibilities! Another option is to simply run TWO Private servers (Master/Slave) but not sure if that's even viable anymore...knowing how poorly BI seems to treat the Private Server owners... Probably in the minority, as well, of those looking for LARGER maps....but being mostly a PVE guy it's something that would vastly enhance my DayZ. Cheers!

    Map-combining possibilities?

Frostbite does this easily...but DICE have definitely gone the extra mile on the high tick rates to help these issues.
