  1. Hey Guys! I have been hitting your server lately but usually it has been low pop. Tonight I actually ran into a few guys (the first one was looting the NWAF and I was waiting for him in a barracks. Just as I hear him coming in I hit my Mic button and.....nothing.... Forgot to enable my mic....so instead I gave him the finger and expected to be shot in the head. What do you know....the guy turns around and screws off leaving me to do the same. I had my weapons shouldered as usual and I wonder if that was the reason he decided not to try his luck. Either way....I am happy to be here, and look forward to not killing the "good" guys. Going down past Zeleno to the coast then going to stay around Balota and Cherno till my luck runs out. I have 40-round Stanag Mags and a few attachment parts for M4s if anyone needs them. I am sticking to my Hunting rifle and Python, in case anyone has .357

    Back on topic...and I have a V3S question. I drove one for the first time in a long time and was surprised that the only way you can check the status of the wheels and lights is to examine them with the inventory screen....right? I was expecting that you could swap components if you were carrying another one in your own inventory. I know they are still a long way from being completed vehicles, but the system from the mod worked pretty well for this kind of thing and I hope they use a similar system for SA.

    Understood, but you did indeed read my take on PvP incorrectly and I was a bit annoyed that you thought I was complaining about the weapon work as being a deliberate way the devs were encouraging it. I am concerned how the community will use this kind of content (which will affect how the game ultimately plays) and I still don't think it is as important as you do for adding to the overall experience (but again....I personally don't think so, that's all). The day the Audio module gets implemented is the day I have been waiting for. It is worth the wait. I have waited. I don't consider myself at all "impatient" and I would not be here if I was. I have spent enough of my career in software development to have a fairly decent grasp on why certain milestones don't get met and a while ago I decided not to stress about it and just enjoy the builds as they happen. I am not impatient with balancing because this is something that is easily done much closer to Beta or 1.0. And finally, I have to say (and just trust that you will believe me) that my thoughts on this forum are not just random outbursts to make myself feel better. I won't say you are "wrong" but I honestly think these are unfortunate misunderstandings....how's that? :-p

    Here you are, again, mis-interpreting and making assumptions. If you read my post history you will find our "perspectives" are more in line than you currently guess, and dial your tone down a tad.

    You must be reading my post wrong, my man. "content" is what I call all the ancillary things like NPC dynamic events, building and crafting, animal behavior, and vehicles. I'm pretty sure I can have any f-ing "perspective" I bloody want to and calling it "untrue" is out of line....sorry... Modules "sitting in internal builds with just as much work into them but cannot be merged" kind of makes my point...right?, as you probably mean things like the above "content" I mentioned. (but....that means I read your mind and decided for myself what you were talking about...instead of asking for clarification...which is poor manners...right, Bio?) ;-) And....the minute you build a game and sell it you can then suggest how my conversations should be kept. There are so many other useless threads that could use your condescending comments that I am surprised you found time to bother with mine.

    Agreed on that...but I am still about three Experimental builds away from the lack of content being a concern, personally. As if I know what their internal roadmap looks like (they probably don't know either) but I do think they should get the core of the game to a point where graphics, audio, Infected, and Loot have a decent level of functionality....and then add content. If not, the modders are gonna get rich off me. :-)

    This post is what I was referring to. I agree on the idiotic amount of weapon-related content. We need the core gameplay sorted first...before the COD, BF, and H1Z1 crowd get their toys.

    In reference to the upcoming audio upgrades... I am definitely NOT a PvP-er, and I still feel very happy about being able to identify and locate distant gunfire. You guys gotta admit that hearing a small firefight break out in a town you were in the process of approaching, or hearing a single Blaze shot ring out in the valley you were about to cross...simply adds immersion. Remember the time you first saw another player...the feel of adrenaline and the heightened sense of danger you felt coursing through your veins? Please don't bash the effort going towards advanced audio....it is such a powerful aspect and deserves the teams' attention. I would even welcome the addition of echoes of gunshots being added to the ambient effects....not very often...maybe once or twice every 30 minutes of in-game time...but players like me, who try to stay low-profile, get such a rush from the hint of danger brought on by hearing threats from a distance...

    "Dev Update/Andrej Hi everybody, After a long silence from the audio department, I am delighted I can talk about some big improvements and upgrades we have planned moving toward 0.61. Our programmers worked hard on implementing our new Audio system which will also be the core of the Enfusion Audio. In the coming updates we will have completely new gunshots sounds with new distance parameters and attenuation and frequency curves which are enormous improvement over existing ones. You will be able to distinguish distance and position of the shots fired with greater precision. Also new sound effects we made are better quality and have greater diversity, so you could recognize which type of weapon is firing more easily. In the coming updates we also plan to consecutively upgrade ambient sounds which will be an enormous core upgrade, but also vehicle sounds, melee and all character sounds that will compliment the new character animations you've been told about. - Andrej Sinkević / Lead Sound Designer" Oh yeah, Baby..... Biggest step forwards for the Alpha, in my opinion....This should add about TEN times the depth and sense of immersion. I wont say I "can't wait" for 0.61...because I can....as this build is just fine...thank you very much, Devs....

    All I can say is "Whew! Hurray for the Server wipes!" Why, you ask?. Because I actually felt pretty bad about stealing someone's V3S on Helpy Helpers server the other day. I was just bouncing around on this server to see what the prison was like, and maybe Skalisky as well....and as I was running up the coast to Berezino I glimpsed the truck parked next to one of the orchards....checked it out...and POW....fully functional! I have never bothered trying to repair vehicles so this was a real treat for me... I drove back down the coast and decided to head through Cherno and then up to the NWAF. I made it there...ran laps of the runway and then decided to return the truck to Berezino. Just as I headed over the hills to the south the truck decided to stop turning. The tires all checked out as being good, but it basically responded like both fronts were flat (or missing). So...suffice to say....I felt like a knob. I am pretty consistent about being a good guy, and I was going to return it with a full tank and a full jerry can in the back (along with a bunch of .45 ACP rounds). Sorry to whomever left it...but thanks! The wipe just makes it a bit easier to get over............there........I'm over it now. :-)

    Meh... I rather like the idea that the Infected are basically mindless predators. When you add the abilities of climbing, opening doors, or even forcing obstacles out of the way I personally think that it conveys a sense that they are too "aware" and I honestly feel that if there was an outbreak that caused the conditions found in the Chenarus victims it would certainly render them incapable of understanding how to do these things. Having a bunch of the snarling bastards roaming around outside a house you just ran into is quite an experience already (not to mention the panic you feel, knowing every KOS arsehole within hearing distance is moving in for the kill!). Add to that, having only so much ammo, and the melee being improved for the Infected, and you have your hands full when you choose to agro them. Just my perspective, though.

    So....if I want to test for crashes all I need to do is find Dudester on a server and then shoot him in the leg? Cool! ;-P

    Exp Update: 0.60.+++

    Agreed with wasnu.... I wish there could be a gathering of players that would somehow manage to mess around in a server for a few hours without the KOS or Bandit BS getting in the way. Don't get me wrong...it is part of the game and will probably never be fully eliminated...but EXP has enough "drama" without getting dusted by Squeakers. That's why I wonder if it might be a good idea to maybe have "closed Beta" servers when we get to that time in DayZ Development....

    Exp Update: 0.60.+++

    Just remember, guys....there are STILL nice guys out there as well. If you see a guy with his primary shouldered, please remember he is probably me. :-) (I am the ONLY one that does this...it seems) So far I have not been KOS'd when I do this and I hope it continues. Cheers!

    Use the link in the first post by Moss. And thank you for understanding that having a million players in this first iteration of 0.60 is just a waste of time and resources. Patience and you will prosper!

    THE BEST GUIDE TO GETTING 60+FPS IN DAYZ!

    This might be a bit dated...but at least the OP-er tried to share this so people have yet another reference for bumping their frames up a bit. It will be very interesting to see how 0.60 plays with default .cfg files and whether we will need a new approach to tweaking the settings. Thanks for the info, NotAScouser.

    Dealing with the frustration

    I just spent the day with a former co-worker in the IT industry. He just came back from the CR and also Romania where a few teams were working on some modules for their company's product offering. From his perspective the production/development houses over there are now a complete joke. There is almost zero oversight and because their countries are so 2nd world it becomes a case of herding cats in order to get a team on-task and up to speed. Throw in the degree of separation between leads and teams and you have the perfect combination for creating a low morale, low interest, and apathetic workforce. Is this happening at the DayZ SA office? Where are the deliverables? Pinned on a wall in the bathroom or plastered on a huge wall in front of them? Are they being paid for milestones or are they just salaried employees? And most importantly, I think, who is their Gabe Newell? Who is their Chris Roberts? I was sceptical of the way Hicks was going about the roadmap two years ago and now I am sure about it. I imagine the dev team in general could benefit from a different management style...but who knows except them, I suppose. This afternoon just gave me pause for thought on the subject of remote coders and artists...that's all. Brian was not really a Project Leader before DayZ SA, was he? I know he was responsible for a mod of the Mod..right? I am trying not to assign blame to him for the debacle that is DayZ SA Alpha per-se....but I think there should have been a conscious effort to ensure the fans/subscribers better informed and it must be impossible to handle both roles with the attention to detail and effectiveness that they require. I always thought he was over-extending his cycles...maybe it's time to bring in someone else to shoulder the burden of getting milestones ticked off. So...regarding the OP...I am "Dealing with the Frustration" by simply playing the builds and speculating on how I would do it if it was MY game. The insight into development has definitely opened my eyes a bit...but now I am wondering just how poorly run the software development houses are in the East Bloc....and also wondering if the game would have been better off coming out of Montreal, or another major game studio....curious. "And aiming for a polished product in the end does not exclude buggy alphas beforehand."----- Yeah it does, sorry to say...because in the process of development you should have better QA, better milestones, better oversight, better feedback, and more accountability. The "Alpha" should not be used as an excuse...not anymore, really. The game is sort of an oddball now...with such a scattered mix of content that still has not been "completed" that I find it hard to believe there are specific deliverables being set for the team or else we would start seeing features added that are functioning and fairly sorted out. The biggest reason I am staying optimistic is because 0.60 is "supposed" to be the beginning of a proper foundation for the game and I am eager to see how progress goes AFTER the EXP goes to Stable. I should not have to say this...but...Fingers Crossed.

    my player has deleted

    Don't remember what the actual duration is set at, but there is a delay between when you log out and when your character disappears from view in the game. This is to help prevent "combat logging".... I think the time is around 5 minutes, which is a long time to be exposed...so next time make sure to log out in a spot that is hidden.

    You two make me sad, really. To have a father and son bouncing around in-game and sharing their adventure is pretty damn cool if you ask me. Props to you guys. And nothing kills DayZ immersion like choppy frames and low LOD. I go through PC hardware like my wife goes through hair styles and I wish you guys were closer so I could slap a couple better rigs together for ya. Take comfort in the fact that I "think" FPS issues are going to be a lot less dramatic. I started playing on my laptop while I was travelling recently and I "think" the frames are already generally more steady and only drop around the predictable spots on the map. Any patching they do will be better Q/A'd due to the integration of test scripts that work better in the new engine environment I would imagine. Chin up...and keep your kid alive! Those KOS buggers always try to pick off the young ones from the herd first.

    And...folks....Hicks did not say "we are looking to release this very soon so keep your eyes on the DB and see y'all in 0.60!" I am glad he resisted the temptation. Good update. I personally would like to know what is being done about the lack of keyboard remap support and have yet to see any reference to it. Do you guys think this aspect is "player controller" dependant. Or is it UI controlled? This was the first bug I ever posted on the tracker over two years ago and I do not have any info on progress or where on the priority list it is.

    Brother... you are not alone and you probably know this. It's kind of uncool for the mods to b#@ch slap someone who has been in the loop for as long as you have and you are just saying what "we" are all thinking. As a forum member who has tried to be reasonable and patient I have always come across as I person who, while "Understanding" the Alpha thing, still expects a certain level of professionalism from the guys working on this title....and when they keep tripping over their own words it just gets old. I'm not angry....now I'm just amused. I have been away from 0.59 for a whole two weeks...so now I'm going to jump back on and start a new character. I am playing a game where I see how many times I can tour the entire map before I get dusted...(my record so far is 8!) See you guys on the coast
