Huh? Wut? The Beans are bugged? There's Bugs in my Beans? Ack! :-)

Just wondering how you guys feel about the current concentrations of commonly used gear in the major cities. In order of highest level of "useful gear" for, let's say, a New Spawn... Cherno, Elektro, Solnichniy, Svetlo, Berezino, Zeleno, Stary Sobor, Severeograd, Novodimitrovsk. If weapons are left out of the equation it seems like Novo is the best place to "survive"...but what do you guys think? Thanks!

Jesus, man! Nice work!

I got stuck in a building (please help)
philbur replied to dont_ask_me_again's topic in General Discussion
Hang on a sec... You asked if the Devs would provide you with new combat boots? I seriously doubt that your expectations are going to be met, my man. The easiest solution to the "getting stuck" issue is to recreate a character and start over again. This is something that all of us have done many times during the development of this game over the years. No boots for you! And remember that "getting attached to your gear" is every bit as pointless now as it was in the past builds. Sorry if that sounds mean...I don't intend to offend you...just nipping this in the bud before you waste your time. -
Thanks guys, and I share your feelings about loot quantity in the big cities while I never considered the additional requirement for building materials....interesting. I would ideally like to see a "proper" representation of loot availability in the big cities for the same reasons...it would make them viable places to not only pass through quickly, but also places where survivors can hold up, make bases, and generally survive either as a lone wolf or as a team. I am going to start a new character today and see just how hard it is to make a life for myself in the existing CLE within one of the big four. Probably Cherno just because I love the weather effects when the fog settles in. But the fat that I will still need to venture out for hunting, ammo, and some decent clothing might make it "interesting" enough to keep me going. To the point about military loot, though, I'm not sure if having it available in these cities is all that realistic because the civilian population would have mostly picked it clean when the evacuation orders came down, in my opinion...and it would draw the players down into the areas for all the "wrong" reasons. (PVP, New Spawn Bandits, KOS). Maybe adding a proper military PORT on the coast, up near Berezino would allow the players to risk their character and yet still make it inland with something better than a crowbar? There would be ample vehicle parts and tools so trading with the Northern dwellers for ammo and meat would be part of it as well. Cant wait to see this stuff, guys...the Modders are going to make some good money off us! ;-p

Come on, guys! Are you honestly pulling the Beans away...again!? Seriously? You DO know, right?....that the SA has endured because of these enthusiastic and dedicated players that bought in to the EA promises and then contributed feedback when required...offered testing when asked....and have diligently minded these forums for the past 4-5 years?? The Beans were a cool little thing that keeps us all going and is a simple and cool personal touch that reminds us all that we belong to a special community. If you have a good reason to take away this feature then please elaborate...and if you don't then clearly this speaks volumes about how you regard your supporters. Without malice, and thank you in advance for your prompt reply.

@[email protected] "feeble wet-fart death"...That is pretty damn funny...and pretty damn appropriate! And well...believe it or not, going out that way is pretty much how it would actually happen in real life as a person who finds themselves in a desolate post-infection cold and barren land, with just a t-shirt and jeans... The more pathetic and miserable the suffering is the more immersive and realistic it seems. I fully appreciate that this would be a huge "disappointment" for a returning player from perhaps 2014\15, but this is the intended direction the developers have chosen to go. I would ask for your patience and perhaps you will get comfortable with the initial challenges facing a new character, like finding enough food from loot or the environment, or getting a warm coat and an axe or knife, and hopefully luck will be on your side and you will spawn into a server that is not pouring rain (which pretty much seals your fate, ask me how I know)...and perhaps the new direction the Devs have gone might be appealing to you. If not...as @OliverPlotTwist mentioned...there will no doubt be a Mod that will meet your needs.

For those complaining about the development time of DayZ
philbur replied to Guy Smiley's topic in General Discussion
My man...you just did. Everyone on this forum has bitched to some extent about release schedule, bugginess, etc. All things considered, its a miracle the dev team never simply shut down the forums and servers and told us all to shut up and wait for the Beta. On a positive note... I had an old LAN-Bash buddy stop in for a couple beers and we were laughing about the old days of Doom, Duke, and Quake when I suggested he check out DayZ SA. After a quick explanation of the game he thought I had finally gone off the deep end as so I sat him down in my game room...gave him another beer and fired it up. It was really interesting to watch him mess around on the coast as a true Bambi new spawn. Ultimately...he has decided to buy a copy DESPITE my clear warning that this game is still ALPHA. He said that for 38 bucks he would buy it just to explore the coastal areas and Elektro, as he did at my place... Without any prompting his logic to me was this "I have paid a lot more for games that I have played only 10-20 hours...and THIS is already a 100-hour game." If the time feels like its too long for the state it's in then just try to get an opinion from someone who has not been as tied to it as yourselves...and it helps keep it in perspective. -
Arma 2 DayZ Mod vs DayZ: when will we be there?
philbur replied to Puffy420blazeit's topic in General Discussion
He was probably right on point with his goal to have drastically better randomization of loot spans...but probably in the context of only having to work on the architecture that governs that side of the sever\client development... And then the Beans hit the fan with the engine re-write...and for now there is simply too much to be done on basic bandwidth limitations for the current team to worry about this extra level of net traffic. (?) I would play the Mod again if I could get over the lousy Zombi mechanics and over the top PVP... The SA is different enough that it has my undivided attention, though. -
MystZ ? Yuck Yuck...

My plea regarding modding and the release of server files
philbur replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
I agree here...but that's why I would be immensely disappointed if the core game was not embedded into the Steam Workshop the way other highly Modded (and open to a lot of Add-Ons) games are. IS that not the main reason to have such a mechanism? Your game will be constantly updated for each of the additions and version conflicts will be minimized. Lets see what happens, but I am SURE there will a common sense system that keeps these things in order. -
I'm sorry but I don't want to confuse what you are saying. Your doing a good job of trying to communicate in English and I respect you for that...but can you maybe just post two images with one being what you consider to be your preferred style of textures and the other how you don't like? I think I am on the same page as you but just want to be clear. Thanks.

Yep. I would welcome a new map that was very much an evolution of maybe Lingor Island...or perhaps just a vast Gotham-esque city map...where it rarely gets light and rarely has any form of "warm and fuzzy" atmosphere. Time will tell....but odds are there are just as many map authors out there that go for the Book of Eli stuff as those that go for more realistic natural ambiance.

OK....Wherever those images came from, they convey to "me" a perfect representation of how the countryside should look. The grass is maybe a bit too consistent and might need some wildflower patches and dried scrub brushes....but it generally looks pretty damn good. So yes....the grass and general appearance I those images are what I personally would like to see in the final release. The devs have changed a lot of these textures and colors over the last few releases and I imagine there are still a few more major palette adjustments (and lighting behaviors) to go before the game "feels" good to them. Its good to offer our opinions on this stuff either way so the devs can best decide what appeals to the majority.

Those images are really beautiful. Nice job! I have experienced some pretty depressing and awful places and the thing is...nature really doesn't care much about how I feel. It does what it does, and it looks the way it looks. We find beauty in silence, and the in the overall complexity of nature in ways that change from person to person, but the world of Chenarus has not been decimated by attacks from heavy bombers, strikes from artillery barrages, defoliation chemicals, and general all-out land warfare. The towns and cities are starting to look pretty darn "realistic" in the way they convey the sense of abandonment and danger...but the forests and open country really don't "need" to look this way. Personally, I hope the final game looks like those images you posted...so I can travel into built up areas for some depressing, bleak and generally dangerous gameplay and then retreat away from those areas where the ambience is safe and beautiful. The duality of those experiences would be the perfect result.

I bet there is sufficient player counts out there for going the hyper-realism route. Blood Types are quite simple and very relevant. Remember that the original emphasis is to make this game as open to interpretation as possible for server owners...so you will find exactly the kind of playstyle you want. Zeroing scopes, cleaning weapons, hygiene, vehicle/equipment repairs...the realism (and more exactly, the imagination of the server owner) is going to be all over the scale...so I hope the dev team gives us all the flexibility they can within the first few builds of the post-1.0 game.

Go ahead and have a look at the posted "Terms and Conditions" and see if your issue is covered in there somewhere. Simple.

Is it worth buying Dayz standalone yet? [With Developer responses]
philbur replied to Blade4777980's topic in General Discussion
Reading the last few pages of this thread gave me pause for thought..... But quite simply...I have had enough adventure within the various builds since I installed it that regardless of the final outcome I really can't say it was money wasted. No way, no how. I "understand" more about how SA got here, and more about gaming in general through the years of following this Alpha than I ever originally expected, and I am aware that there is value in the journey that can't be quantified by ticking off boxes. I work really long hours....stressed...and I have a passion that eats up most of any free time I manage to find, so having DayZ ready when I just need to immerse myself in Chenarus as a way of "switching off" has been priceless. I own two copies, so friends can join in when they want, and that basically adds up to one single AAA title elsewhere. The question might very well be "Is DayZ SA worth Investing in?" I didn't Buy it... I paid for a ticket to go on a journey that was without a final destination and without any guarantee there would be sex after dinner.... I still gave it a shot. Worked for me. -
My plea regarding modding and the release of server files
philbur replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
The hope would be that a dedicated "Launcher" gets released either by BI or maybe one of the clever modders out there and that would avoid a lot of the "Jankiness". As a matter of fact I really liked the Steam Workshop solution to Skyrim in so far as its' ability to vastly streamline the installation and "activation" of the add-ons you prefer. (Not necessarily for "Mods" though) I know it is not the leanest of interfaces...but having your game AND all the mods/add-ons consistently up to date is a huge bonus. Since I no longer play Skyrim I have not been too active in the Workshop for Arma 3 stuff since I grew tired of Altis etc. but Dayz SA should fit right in to this kind of thing. Personally, I hope server owners just keep faithful to their individual Server Setting preferences, as these will play such a large factor towards keeping the core gameplay in perspective. Things that can be selected as server settings like 1PP/3PP, Day/Night, Loot Tables, Weather, Infected Population, Animal Pop, Etc. all contribute to how the experience works (or doesn't ) for us. I just can't imagine that the Mods that will spring up will dramatically pull away those players that came to the SA originally. I bet there are going to be a couple epic mods that will blow us all away....but I bet the "hardcore" original 1.0 version will endure. -
Meh.... Should have known better.... Sorry about that everyone.
-
Well....yeah....naturally! ;-)

Came across what I thought was a post from @Baty Alquawen saying she had "a treat" for us tomorrow (Wednesday). Not trying to stir the pot, here...and I can't find the discussion online about it anymore (Saw it when I glanced at Reddit, Twitter, or somewhere else on my cell earlier today) but has anyone seen some sort of primer for "a treat" from her?
-
Yep....and I actually am a big fan of Electus from his intros and outros. The AltisLife stuff with JackFrags and even that twat Sada are hugely entertaining.
-
Someone should really get hold of Frankie and tear him away from his studies/job so he can fill the role of content capture/creator. His scripted episodes of the mod were simply awesome...and largely how I was sucked in to the mod in the first place. Too bad he went and got a day job, hehe.

Sorry guys and gals but I have a question that is bugging me.... When I test my blood it never varies from either A+ or A- Has anyone ever tested for O+ or O- ?? Seeing as O- is universally compatible it would be great to have someone with it on your team or in your group. I know this player mechanic has not been fully implemented yet...but I really like the added danger of blood transfusions when types are not a match. SO... Any O- meatbags out there?
