Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.

Render a small mirror (with proper reflection and bloom) on a stick where the camera is :) It also has to randomly sway with an amplitude of one meter. Or render a hovering Half Life 2 style drone camera flying around the player. Or do not render zombies and players if they are not visible from the player avatar's eyes. Or leave it as it is. -
I'm old and I suck at it so I play on empty servers.

Hello, I had a brand new ZX-Spectrum, bought copied cassettes on the flea market. My first and perhaps still best multiplayer experience was around '89, when I got to play Wizard of Wor with an older neighbour boy on his Commodore 64, with two joysticks, on a small TV screen. It is a cooperative tactical shooter. :) -
Not relevant to the discussion: - what you think I was thinking - how new I am to DayZ - if I am a sheep for listening to other cry-babies who sit around whining about 3pp and jumping on their bandwagon or not All these are unnecessary personal attacks against me. Why do you read my words as crying, whining? You are obviously sensing a negative emotion, and you know what? You are right: I was disappointed, and my disappointment moved me to share my experience related to the posted video. When I read the title I got excited and had a high expectation. Then it got less impressive because of the 3PP. Just because I dislike 3pp action and tactics, does not mean that I am new to DayZ, nor that I have my opinion through mindlessly copying others without proper independent consideration. This opinion and preference of mine is based on my experience and my values. I wrote nothing about his skills. Yes, he played well. The reasons why streamers play in 3PP might help me accept that I have to filter my DayZ action video viewing. I think that is what I'm whining about. So thanks for inspiring me to figure that out. I'm pissed off because I have to filter my DayZ action video viewing. I can filter the servers but I cannot filter the videos. That's my problem. And I keep forgetting about 3PP, because I only play 1PP, even on (friendly) 3PP servers. Makes sense, doesn't it? Being disappointed in 3pp action does not mean that I bash 3pp. 3pp action is less realistic, less immersive, allows looking without being exposed which makes it less impressive to me, that's all I'm saying. If I'd bash something, it would be the fucking over the top title. You are tired of 3pp bashing and maybe even personally feel attacked. Maybe my report of what happened to my interest was the straw that broke the camel's back. Sorry! You are right, I'll try to pay attention to that, thanks.

1) I start watching a DayZ combat video. 2) A few minutes in the player hides behind something and looks around. I realize I've been watching third person gameplay the whole time. 3) My interest evaporates. I wish '3PP' and '1PP' were used in the titles.

Might worth double-checking, as the video on YouTube is horizontally stretched.

Hello there Nugget, Just curious, could you please share your following stats? - monitor resolution - DayZ User Interface Resolution - DayZ Rendering Resolution
-
I don't know about you, but in real life I lose my hidrated status after running ~1 km. I think. The last time I run that far without stopping was 20 years ago.

Well done! (If you know what I mean...)

Thanks for not getting offended! It's not a "stretch". It is a stretch. :) I guess you've got used to it. The majority of your audience (I hope) plays with correct settings and watches other videos with a normal image. This does not mean you have to change (fix) it. It's something you might or might not decide to do. It would improve my viewing experience for sure.

A core aim of this game is to be immersive. Your metagaming goes against others' immersion. For the one who does it, at the time immersion is less important. What you do ingame creates experience for the rest of us. You are providing entertainment. Try to remember that we are each other (separation is illusion). So I kindly ask you to do your metagaming as discreetly as possible. Or even better: Make it into a story.

You have my beans for staying in character (roleplaying). :)

How can you measure the effectiveness of hiding items from other players? You only generate more server hopping IMO.

Okay. When I wrote "UI aspect ratio", what I really meant is the UI aspect ratio. ... To be even more specific: Configure > Video > User Interface > Aspect Ratio Aspect Ratio could be your monitor's native aspect ratio. Resolution could be your monitor's native resolution. Also, in Configure > Video > Rendering Resolution, it is best to have your monitor's native resolution. The game is strange with these settings by default. I've found that the UI has to be set up correctly first, and that sets the base for the Rendering Resolution. One might have to exit and restart the game for the correct UI settings to take effect. - - - The YouTube video's image is clearly stretched horizontally. It is most measurable on the hotbar slots. They are square normally. If while playing the game the hotbar's boxes are square for you, then the image got stretched at a later stage.

Good point. The map-combining minigame is a bit strange indeed. Maps in bad condition could have stains, marks, faded lines along folds.
