Re: Persistence.... for those that don't follow Reddit. We worked late last night to reproduce and capture the problem for BI. We were successful. Now BI knows that the issue is caused by server not shutting down gracefully, so if there are write operations going on in the persistence files, it corrupts them and we lose stuff. I know I have not been happy with all of this but when we heard Eugene asking for detailed reports and they only had a few on the Feeback tracker, I knew we had to do something since few people were. And I'm glad we could help... now maybe this will be put to bed when they give out some details on how these servers should be shut down and restarted correctly. here's the ticket we submitted last night: https://feedback.bistudio.com/T135002 Follow Eugene's reddit thread:

I will say this, the Dead Matter community has been amazing from the beginning, and the developers have consistently asked the community what they thought about this or that. Many ideas from the community have been implemented. Some random guy thought being able to throw a fire alarm in a building would be awesome assuming it had electricity. They put it in the game, along with a control panel to stop the alarm. That kind of shit only happened when a streamer asked for it with DayZ... just regular players asking for stuff over there. We will have a closed Alpha pretty soon, I was gifted a key and a Beta Key as well. Granted... they have a proven engine, and they also have Epic Games who has taken noticed and offered assistance. THAT, my friend, is how shit gets done. We will see if they have the goods first Quarter of 2019. I'm OT..... back to asking BI what planet they live on with this 1.0 announcement.

Let's see how this EXP update goes..... based on that tweet just given, I predict... not well.
-
Regarding persistence wipes and the 1.0 release.....
-
Until Dead Matter releases. Competition is what DayZ and BI needs. They are about to get it.... thank Goodness.

At this point, given the complete shut down of comms from the devs to the community and not one single EXP update to fix game-breaking bugs on the weekend before THE release that matters after 5 years....the only thing 1.0 appears to bring to the table is another box full of nails to the proverbial coffin BI is building for this game. i sincerely am hoping that they have something HUGE planned this week to turn this proverbial ship around No amount of good will is going to do shit for a game being developed openly for 5 years and released with less content than the mod it was created from and so many major issues and bugs left on the table to be fixed after release

Again. Nail on head. They have consistently fumbled communications and NOW they go virtually silent. The EXACT wrong time. I’m sure things are frustrating for them. But cutting comms to your community that has followed you through thick and thin is just dumb. Thats why we are left with nothing but hope. And why I say the only thing we have is their track record. Poop in one hand and hope in the other. See which one fills quicker. We hope for a miracle but we may be left with poop. We don’t have anyone from BI telling us differently. Just arbitrary deadlines that make no sense.
-
I agree. I just hope there are enough fans to make modding, a worthwhile endeavor in the end.
-
No one wants to see blood shed, I'm hoping for a miracle to occur.

Right you are sir. I just hope over the next week we aren't watching Neegan take a barb-wire baseball bat to the back of the head of something we love over and over and over again. I mean, we shouldn't even be THINKING like this at this point. We should be 1000 percent behind BI rallying the troops that we are going to win, but alas, I fear that whistle in the woods and the steps of boots and leather coming closer and closer. How will this go down? No one knows. And that is the saddest part of all of it.

To the discussion at hand.... I hope that BI is working really hard over the next several days to deliver a product worthy of the DayZ name they have so carefully crafted over the years. That would be an amazing come back story if that were to happen. I know die hard community fans would sing from the mountain tops if that were to happen. No update on Experimental over the weekend apparently, so I am certain beyond measure they are face forward in their monitors drinking red bull, pulling all nighters to get this build in tip top shape by Wednesday. After all it's "high noon" at the offices in Prague. You go get em guys, I've been there with the sleepless nights right before a major, MAJOR release. And it must be doubly hard for you guys as this is THE ONE that matters most. Crossing fingers and toes that all the hard work over the last several years and even right this moment PAYS OFF! Those in the community are hoping for a successful launch. We are concerned about this... deeply concerned. Wishing you well. I personally hope you guys can pull this off. I really mean that. And BTW.... I love the ignore feature of this forum.... I only put insolent pricks on it.. .saves me the trouble of having to report forum trolls that would rather attack me personally than actually... I don't know...discuss the issues and give their insights and opinions on the subject at hand. Most of them don't like it when their precepts are challenge and that means they would have to look beyond their rose-colored glasses. So they resort to the only thing forum trolls know how to do.... insulting. They are easily spotted with their high post counts and lack of analytical ability. Sad... .feels bad man.

So BI is having a free weekend for the launch of DayZ. There will be tons of players wearing the game out next weekend. How many of those will turn into a buy? Id like to hear what everyone’s thoughts on how many sales will be produced based on the game in EXP currently.

Personally I don't give a shit about XBox, but now we are joined at the hip. It makes sense to me they could hold off and release with XBox at the same time first quarter of 2019. That should give them plenty of time to fix the server crashes and polish everything right. This date (Dec 13) is arbitrary and CAN be moved since they said Microsoft has nothing to do with it and they are not pressured from above. Making goals is nice, but they should be achievable.... this is actually worse than having no goals.

Most of the REAL fans of DayZ are just going to have to accept that the game we love so much will be cannon fodder beginning next week, unless, and if, a HUGE miracle comes through. If this release were ready... I mean really ready, I'd be behind this decision 100% to release so quickly. But given the track record, and previous decision-making and current bugs plaguing the game, I take no joy in the assault that is coming. Like the devs, I would like to see the core gameplay running well, but you only took about a month and a half for Beta... 5 years for Alpha and not even two months for polish. This is the single worse decision made after deciding to go into Early Access too damn early. And THIS is the one that matters. Version numbering aside.... saying this game is complete is a joke and slap in the face for every DayZ fan, but then to say we need this time fix 5000 bugs in the bug tracker and do it in less than 2 months??? Who is kidding who? Especially when playing on EXP. That would be the BEST NEWS they could ever deliver to the true DayZ fan.
-
Base Building still BAF on current EXP build.... https://feedback.bistudio.com/T134793 And you still want to go full release?
-
Why can’t you release on PC the same time as XBox. Could that time not be used making the game stable and polished? You guys are hell bent on this arbitrary date and you are screwing up royally when you could have easily waited a few more months and fixed these bugs and had a solid release.
-
Considering the servers crashing on stable and experimental fairly frequently.... Good luck with Arma 4.
-
Or store persistence in the already existing SQLite database instead of flat file binaries with no protection. But that would make non-DayZ sense.

BI Needs to Postpone 1.0
THEGordonFreeman replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Community servers are mostly empty now minus a few of the COD style ones. Those that wanted a true DayZ experience may never get one without proper, working base building that doesn't delete itself almost every day from some server bug. you say this is not the end... you are right, Unless something HUGE happens, and I don't mean leaving early access, I mean something really huge, there is no incentive for players to keep playing this game, or for server owners to keep sinking money into resources to keep it afloat. -
BI Needs to Postpone 1.0
THEGordonFreeman replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
And just so everyone understands... BI will be releasing the game regardless if it has a bunch of known issues, persistence corruption, and server crashes. If you take everything said in account, this will be done come hell or high water. I find myself asking 4 years of testing, playing and over 4000 hours... FOR....WHAT?!? Can anyone at BI honestly say they are happy releasing this game in it's current state? -
