We have polls and and a suggestion box in our Discord. And if you are 25+ YO and are looking for a group of like-minded mature players. Please come talk to us in our Discord. -
Geared But Dead Expansion

Nice... Welcome back. Hit me up in our Discord if you need help. -
This is kind of a eulogy for The Misfits. The group had been running DayZ for 6 years. Many of us met through TOG (The Older Gamers). We were a mix of US, EU, and Aussies. We eventually left TOG and started a group called HIHB led by one of the hardest working people I know, JMAN. We later formed The Misfits. Even for people over 25 years old, we had our bits of drama, but those times can't come close to all of the fun times we had together. 6 years of memories and really fun times playing DayZ and other games together. I recently made the decision to close The Misfits down . Being a community admin/server admin can be difficult at times. And when competition for players is heavy and having to deal with many different types of personalities, running events, and just making sure things go smoothly, it takes a toll after awhile. There are a lot of people that act like friends but come into groups with agendas. I've seen it time and again. This time though, after reflecting what went wrong and what needed to happen to correct it, I suddenly realized I did not have the will to keep going. Gaming wasn't fun anymore. Agendas ruin good communities, plain and simple. Most admins want to have popular servers, or a thousand members or whatever, I'd like to say this. None of that is important. Finding good people to help you and support you that come with no agendas in hand is much more important. I have four or five really good people I can depend on, and several more that are willing to support another group. We boasted 42 active members strong at one point in our run and in 6 years we saw a lot of people come and go, we talked about our wives/husbands and family. We had members have health scares, and financial issues, and we all pitched in and helped them the best we could. This is a group of people that for the most part have NEVER laid eyes on one another, we were all just 1's and 0's floating in cyberspace. And yet, many of us pitched in to help one another. I remember we had one member who was going through a particularly hard time in her life, and her computer crapped out on her. She didn't have the money to replace it and she was just holding on to reality and her computer was her escape, and her way of reaching out and communicating with others. Many of us pitched in and bought all the necessary parts for her a new computer. I built it, and shipped it to her. In a few days she was able to get back online. I think we all cried talking with her again and being able to play again as a whole group. Three years ago, my father passed away suddenly. I was fortunate to be with him in the hospital when he passed. When we were preparing for his funeral, I received the biggest bouquet of flowers I have ever seen and a large gift basket of chocolates/snacks and other gourmet food. there was a signed card by all the members of our group and even other clans/groups we routinely played against, and former members and just friends of the group in general. It's that kind of decent outpouring of love that made The Misfits special. We weren't just a gaming group and community. People cared for one another. Unfortunately, some people with agendas that were a part of this, what we had, decided their agenda was more important than all I have said above. I do not understand and likely, never will. Hell, I don't CARE to understand. I've been a part of gaming communities since Unreal was originally announced. I don't know what the future holds. True friends stuck with it through thick and thin, and while I'm sorry it had to end, I am not sorry for doing what was necessary to protect the true friends who stuck it out through thick and thin. Our paths will most definitely cross again and we should all stay in touch. I leave two links to two music videos we did several years back. Enjoy our insanity! We did.....

MISFITS FROZEN HELL DAYZ SERVER

Come one, come all! We have a heavily modified server hand-crafted so not a lot of junk, lying around. This is not a typical PvP setup. You will have to do a little work, but you will find a lot of Hummvee\Land Rover Defender and truck spawns to haul around your crew and loot. Base building is default, but base destruction will take over an hour to get inside. Double or triple wall your stash and you are fine. Or just use one of the many vehicles as a base, your choice. Come into our Discord if you need assistance with any of the keybindings for any of the mods we use. We are glad to help. I'm XCITE, I'm the admin and I invite you to come check us out. I am the only admin of the server. The Misfits are a group of 25+ Years and older gamers and we have been around since early 2014.

News regarding the 2019 roadmap
THEGordonFreeman replied to RaptorM60's topic in News & Announcements
@ThePugman Based on your post history, you're an XBox player. I'm glad you enjoy the game, as it is, right now. But the game, DayZ, is nowhere near representative to the mod or the standalone game we were sold at the beginning of early access. They had a blueprint, and while trying to make it bigger, grander, they completely destroyed what most DayZ Mod and early adopters of Standalone LOVED about the game. It simply doesn't exist anymore. We and that includes you are not getting the game we were sold. You bought an incomplete mess of a game and while regualr updates are appreciated, the team is not giving out updates. Look at Dead Matter, these guys are doing ALL the things right and they haven't even had an Alpha Test. They are engaging with the community, they answer questions, and are building a community support system to help new people understand what is going on with the game. They looked at how SCUM has failed, how H1Z1 has failed, and how DayZ ultimately has faltered, and are doing everything they can to purposefully not fall into ANY of those traps. When they say they are working on this feature and then test it and it doesn't work, they tell everyone that it didn't work out, here's why. They are super transparent and just nice as hell guys. I would not be surprised if their game is not a success. But as far as the game that I have well over 4,000 hours in, I cannot get past the fact that we are sitting here with a released game that is just a shell of it's former self. I don't want nor intend to spoil your fun, but it will take a miracle for DayZ to recapture the spirit of itself again. -
News regarding the 2019 roadmap
THEGordonFreeman replied to RaptorM60's topic in News & Announcements
I looked at the steam chart yet, I still screwed that sentence all to pieces when I wrote it. I should have said "The community has dried up to less than 15.000 players peak" Compare that to early 2014 where the game peaked 30 to 40K players and averaged 15K to 23K players. We had a game that was flawed with shit frames in many places, but at least twice the content and the most important aspect.... it was fun. Hell, we didn't even have base building, but it was fun. We didn't need modded traders and all of that shit, some guy would just accumulate stuff, and place it on the ground in a bus stall in a high traffic area and be his own trader. That was always the core of DayZ, do what you want. We had the mil-sim crowd and the RP crowd sometimes within the SAME SERVER, it was exciting stuff. You could get killed by falling from 3 inches, you had a chance of breaking your leg running down a large hill. Certain trees would stop bullets from hitting targets. The game was a broken mess back then, but it had heart, it had a soul. It captured the imagination and kept you playing for hours on end. The heart is almost gone. It's not as gritty. But they fixed the FPS, made it so players can't just zig zag on a dime at full speed, they've fixed a couple of big problems with the game, but in that process, they made countless missteps, COUNTLESS. And then from late 2017 through 2018, the game took a turn for the worse, the steam numbers show that as well. The team was still communicating and we were given status reports, but I believe we only had two updates during that time while the player controller the console pieces were implemented. And then the biggest mistake was made, they released an unfinished, broken game, according to them, for no reason at all other than the development team wanted to release it. But I, personally, do NOT believe that, and anyone that has followed this game, been a part of this community at least as long as I have knows that either they are lying or incompetent, or worse, both. I, and many others, railed against them releasing the game now for months on this forum, Reddit, and their twitter account. While they received a bump from XBOX and PS4, they never broke top 30 possibly top 50 console game sales in the months after their release. DayZ lost it's momentum early on, and then lost the thing that made it fun over the last couple of years. In 2014/2015 many people envisioned playing and supporting the game for years and years. But many of those people are gone now, I'm only holding for hope out for Namalsk and Epoch. But that says alot about where we are at this moment. Hoping that modders can somehow recapture the DayZ experience. DayZ was a mod of Arma 2, and now we are hoping that a mod of the StandAlone game can capture that same magic. -
News regarding the 2019 roadmap
THEGordonFreeman replied to RaptorM60's topic in News & Announcements
I don't represent thousands... I represent about 50 regular players who stopped playing altogether because of the decisions being made to make this a console game while claiming it is still a PC game. (A BIG FAT LIE BASED ON TECHNICALITIES) BI tried their best to cover themselves, but actions speak louder than words. And here we are now with literally NO WORDS coming from BI. The community has pretty much dried up less than 5,000 player average and now we/they are left hoping and praying modders can save the game that is DayZ. And to top it off, critics are being squelched on the official forums. I know there is only so much anger and vitriol that can be taken, but BI caused it. If you make a decision to release a game than in no way should have been BY ANY MEASURE, you reap what you have sown gentleman.... Own up to it, don't hide and hope it goes away... it won't. Your decisions in the last 8 months have completely blown the trust of most of the gaming community here. Long time, ardent supporters have left and there are currently very, VERY few playable community servers that have any kind of DayZ spirit, most are no stamina, and militarized trying to make Arma 4, it's pathetic. And lashing out at those calling you out and questioning the ridiculous decisions that have been made don't help your cause. Perhaps if you had been more transparent about the why then we might not be having this conversation, but no. You just sprung it on everyone, we are releasing an unfinished game and expect everything to be Okay. And THEN inform us that you were under no obligation to release it before Christmas. Most people don't believe that, BTW. And the console folks are not exactly happy either. Both Xbox and Playstation are barely playable, Playstation is in worse shape with stuff loading in all the time, doesn't look like much effort put into performance tuning it for PS4. The frames are not exactly great either. A perfectly great game was rushed out on all fronts for a money grab, and I don't believe it even made it in the top 30 selling games on either console platform either... I wonder why???? https://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/dayz https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/dayz Do not blame the people playing the game for questioning why when you cannot give us legitimate reasons for some of these decisions in the last 8 months or so. So you can expect these arguments to continue as long as Bi continues to say nothing, don't provide any kind of roadmap, or even talk about what can be expected in the next patch. Personally, for me, the real DayZ experience died the day BI decided to make the engine console friendly. We have wonderful fps now, but the game lost it's soul in the process. It's a lifeless, boring dreck of a game compared to 2014. I want the real DayZ back, and while holding a pile of shit in one hand, I have to hope Epoch or one of the other talented modding teams actually can accomplish that in the other hand. Does that make me salty? Yes, and given what we were sold vs delivered, if that means you need to ban me or anyone else for pointing out the obvious and asking why? So be it, my integrity will not be impugned the way BI has impugned their own. -

Weyland.... I am normally right there w3ith you, but in this case, I differ. It is just a game, we chose to spend time in it, we chose to build communities around it, and we chose to put our own time and resources into building it. BI let us down, man. I mean they let EVERYONE down. After months of asking why, and receiving nothing but threats of being banned from this forum and reddit, I decided that while I have made more online friends and have very nice group of people I now play games with because of DayZ, I pulled our server and will wait till the right mod comes along that deliver something closer to what BI has failed to do... deliver the definitive survival game. Epoch is likely to be THAT mod. I am following them closely, if they deliver, I will invest our community funds into DayZ just to have Epoch. But let's not kid ourselves, the base game will NEVER measure up to anything we or even BI want. -
8 PC Stable Servers going offline on June 24th!
THEGordonFreeman replied to ImpulZ's topic in General Discussion
Maybe it does and maybe it doesn't..... the numbers certainly aren't going up dramatically overall considering the horrible press BI has received from critics, the ice cold reception from XBOX and PS4 gamers, and the game is not in the top 40 video games sales of last week or this week for either console, and while I didn't go too far back, it never made top 40 for XBox either. If someone can point me that it did, I will stand corrected. The game came to other platforms with too much baggage, another reason I'm sure developer's decided to remain quiet, less they draw the ire of their dedicated fanbase again and the backlash spill over into social media and gaming websites yet again. The metacritic score is a reflection of today's reality. To say it has no impact is akin to saying helicopters in the game will make no impact. It's too late to make any difference now, the ship has sailed and is sunk no amount of bailing it out is going to resurrect it from BI's standpoint. The modding community is different. They will die trying to remake the Arma 2 Mod, and only the die hard fans will play it, it's not going to draw in new people, it may stream well for awhile, but those viewing won't turn into buyers as it will have limited niche play. The game we were sold back in 2014 is not happening, the 45,000 gamers playing at once is not coming back. DayZ peaked early when it was an FPS hog, and now that it runs on hardware better than ever, it lost it's soul in the process and there is no recovering that. The metacritic score is a reflection of that, and I believe it does influence people buying now. Because, if nothing else, they will wonder why it got a shit score and begin reading reviews from gamers like Steam. -

HOLY SHIT! You paid $70 for a Playstation game? I paid $24 on PC back in 2014 for this game and have more than got my moneys worth.... albeit when it was actually more a of a game than an engine demo, but still WOW! $70.00! If that's true no wonder they were so quick to want to grab that console money.... these guys would pay whatever price you slap on the case....WOW! -
Nespesney just quit DayZ...
THEGordonFreeman replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
No Doom and Gloom from me, I'd speculate his departure has something to do with the game being released on PS4, maybe his obligations were fulfilled once that happened. I wouldn't blame anyone for going on to greener pastures, especially this group. -
News regarding the 2019 roadmap
THEGordonFreeman replied to RaptorM60's topic in News & Announcements
Thing is... I don't want nostalgia. I want the game we were presented and sold, not the console version of the game so BI could test enfusion for Arma 4 and have that console money. That's what pisses me off, most people don't see the bait and switch, step waaaay back, and it is clear that the direction turned, they released a game that they, themselves said they were not obligated to do by deadline or even orders from the top, the developers say they CHOSE to do it, it was a self-imposed deadline with no rhyme or reason. If you choose to believe the narrative they say, then it shows full on incompetence. If you step back and see that they released the game to make Micro$oft happy, grab that money, then make Sony happy, grab that money, the REAL narrative comes into focus, this game is INCOMPLETE at best, and it just got released on everything except mobile. It was fun in 2014, and most of you XBOX and PS4 people may not realize it, it was more complete back then as well, that's right, there is less content now than almost 5 years ago. So sick of the excuses. Namalsk and/or Epoch will make it great again, but the base game is burnt toast. The recently released live action trailer..... if only someone would make THAT game. -
News regarding the 2019 roadmap
THEGordonFreeman replied to RaptorM60's topic in News & Announcements
THE moment they started talking about XBOX publicly, that was THE moment, and I called it BTW, that the game was sunk. No matter how you sugar coat it, what could have been, was thrown in the toilet so that console money could flow. The only thing DayZ will end up being good for is making an engine they can build Arma 4 with. The DayZ community paid for it, and we have so little to show for it. My cousin and his friends have watched me play DayZ and always wanted it for XBOX and PS4, I managed to keep them from buying it. The game was more fun in 2014 and 2015. When things changed to build the engine for Arma 4, the things that made the game great, vanished. Look up DayZ videos on Youtube, you can't tell me that those videos in 2014 through the first half of 2016 aren't awesome, they slowly faded and nothing great can be found really after 2017... at least nothing that reaches how amazing things were. Over 6000 hours in this game, and I haven't played since December of 2018. Epoch mod could be the only thing that saves this game. They have the talent to actually make DayZ awesome again. I have more confidence in them now, than BI, that's for damn sure. -

THEGordonFreeman replied to Baty Alquawen's topic in News & Announcements
I understand what you are saying; however, you are neglecting the elephant in the room. the ONE MONTH BETA. That, by far, was the biggest faux pas development has made. Missing deadlines, promising this feature or that, cutting this feature or that, was NOTHING compared to having Beta for one month. All of the other could have been handled better, but you guys are missing what the community is truly upset about. The fact that you were in EA for years, and you had a one month beta, then went straight to release... ARBITRARILY, if we are to believe what Eugene has said that the Dev team were under no obligation or duress to do so, that it was a "team" decision. If that is to be believed, then THAT decision was the biggest blunder, everything else is window dressing. There is no way in hell, no way IN HELL, that kind of decision gets made on other projects by other software development houses and someone doesn't get fired twice from their position. The laundry list of major game breaking bugs that SHOULD NOT have been there had you had a real BETA phase is too long for me to recap, but the number one item on that list is PERSISTENCE. There is literally no excuse for not dealing with that prior to going full release. You guys have known about it since at least .62, it was reported again, and again DURING THE ONE MONTH BETA, and you did nothing to fix it. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Eugene said you were not aware of it and you couldn't reproduce it in house. I'm sorry, I don't buy that. It was reported on the bug tracker since .62 was released. It was posted on social media and on the DayZ twitter, and in the very forums and on reddit. It became the hot button issue almost immediately when Beta hit, and NOTHING was done. You still went full release. Persistence is an advertised feature on your steam page and it's broken. How could this not be the single most important issue to resolve before full release.... oh, that's right, BETA was ONLY a month long... right, right. There are a lot of things I could say about that and the 'WHY' ultimately, it'd be speculation on my part, but I will say this. By not talking about things, you have gone the opposite direction, you don't have to be specific, you can be open without spoiling things. Right now, I refer you to Dead Matter. Those guys are developing their product IN TANDEM with their community. I have seen few development teams willing to do that. They don't give away the store, but they talk daily with their backers and people that just want to know what's up. And they tell people straight, like if an idea sucks or not, or is just not right for their game. They don't beat about the bush. That kind of honesty is refreshing and frankly, they won't have a pissed off community because feature A didn't make it in their game, or feature B got nerfed. They have been open and told the community long before expectations got out of whack. Having trouble filling those servers up on Exp.? Yeah, closing them down was smart but telling, the community is no longer willing to test when it was plainly obvious from the one month beta, that whatever internal testing that was done was INADEQUATE. Eugene said you couldn't hire enough people to test this kind of game. And he asked the community for help.... funny enough, two people on one server were able to expose a problem in persistence after about an hour of messing with it. Managing expectations is nice and all, but being open and willing to provide information and engaging the community to talk about these things OPENLY would do way more for your credibility and restore trust and willingness to want to help in Exp. As was seen by Eugene asking for specific help.... be OPEN. I want DayZ to succeed. I want you guys to deliver a great experience, but shutting off the community at this critical time and completely ignoring glaring concerns and issues is not going help, it's just going to further divide us. Not being forthcoming with REAL straight answers is also not conducive to trust. You guys have a credibility problem right now within your own community. You should own up to it and make it right. -

Our crew and community have been DayZ patriots since early 2014, after the decision to cut Beta short and release the game with non-working persistence as a full release, well, that was the last straw. We have moved on to Atlas, which funny enough has working persistence, epic base building, and seriously fun ship battles. And our hosted servers don't crash. It reminds us of DayZ alot, only it works with fewer glitches. I can't accept what we have in DayZ , none of our community can, actually. Like so many other long time members of this community, we have moved on, maybe DayZ will be something one day, we will continue to watch, but as much as I have personally worked toward bringing Persistence to the forefront over the last several months, and warned everyone that without persistence, the game is toast, the numbers don't lie, total number of players continue to tank, and dedicated communities continue to close. I suggest Atlas as a really fun diversion, it will remind you how great DayZ could be.... one day. -
