    Tencent is a big part of it. No one plays Ylands in the USA. Vigor isn't offered by steam, I don't know if it's in the Chinese market, but Ylands is offered there. I noted the timing of discussions, and that seems very close to when BI made the decision to let DayZ just go into sleep mode. In the end, no matter what the "reasoning" is, BI abandoned DayZ for the most part. All it means is we shouldn't trust them. I mean, there's no way in way hell, I will invest one dime into Arma 4 based on how they treated DayZ.

    That would be great, but if memory serves, one of the devs answered that with a "it's not that simple anymore" non-answer. The real answer is they don't have a good anti-cheat to take care of it and official servers are not monitored like community servers. I wonder if they will ever bring up the subject of "sanity checks" again.... lol.

    We're all speculating. It's easy to understand why BI abandoned DayZ. They made their money, but more importantly, Tencent bought a minor stake in BI, and thus, YLands gets all the dev love and is now sold in China. I wonder how much they are going to water down their titles from now on since they can sell to the Chinese market now. This is one reason why so many think DayZ will just languish as an unfinished game. Sure, they call it finished, but reality says otherwise.

    Maybe in 30 years, this is the same company selling Arma 3 20 years later, they still support it, DLC is still being made for it, but it's definitely aged now and it's days are waning. I don't know how in the world they survived, but you got lucky this one time.

    Impulz told us effectively they work on it when they can but due to it's complexity, no ETA can be given. Changing the player controller was difficult as well, caused a massive stir within the community, but they accomplished it and it has worked out well. They threw tons of resources at it and got the job done. Why in the hell would they release a game without so doing the same for vehicles? They released this game with a seriously broken system, and now that the dev team is small it seems BI is signalling we just don't give a damn. Like I said, I'm sure it's frustrating to the devs, but I believe new players should know what they are getting into. Vehicles suck, no if's, no and's, and no but's about it. We have to stay vocal about it, something needs to change at BI.

    ANd this is a very sad thing to have to explain publicly. Cars are indeed a necessary tool for the long game in DayZ. You can technically play without cars but most players will not choose them because they are screwed up so horribly bad. And again, all of this was due to the decision to make them server sided so hackers would not be an issue. So with their current state, hackers don't mess with them and neither do most players. And BI puts more effort into adding hats and brooms instead of having resources to fix what is essentially a broken feature in the game. Everyone was skeptical of the new player controller, myself included And it took a few patches to get it dialed in right. I'm OK with it now, it has indeed enhanced many combat situations I have found myself in. It ended up being a great decision by the dev team. Why can't they put that kind of effort and thought into fixing vehicle physics. I'm certain it's complicated as hell, but NOT IMPOSSIBLE. I would rather hear that vehicles will never be fixed than stringing everyone along with we'll get to it eventually or we're working on it. New players should again, note, vehicles have been a huge pain in the butt since the game was in Alpha and it's one month Beta. BI never fixed them, see the videos posted in this thread. You will lose progress in the game due to them, likely die because of them and sometimes, even if you are not using them actively and are jsut in the general vicinity, you could die through no fault of your own. That is the reality of vehicles at this moment and since at least 2019. We are actively keeping this discussion open and alive in hopes that BI will eventaully listen to it'ss customers and fix these damn things.

    So you don't even need to drive the vehicle.... just sit in it and potentially lose all your progress. Id say this guys is fortunate he was playing on a modded server or he would be dead and lost all of that sweet gear. Another player dies and loses his progress to what is supposed to be a stable, reliable vehicle in a game that has been fully released over two years. If you are new to DayZ or are thinking about purchasing it, read this thread carefully, this is what you will be dealing with on many of your play sessions.

    I don't try to understand BI. I use to speculate, but it is crystal clear they do things "different". I have face palmed so many of their decisions over the years between Arma 3 and mostly DayZ. I have heard so many people use the same logic that they have to fix vehicle physics in Enfusion for Arma IV and that will somehow magically roll down to DayZ. Given their track record of making bone headed decisions over the last several years. I don't believe that for one second. You're final assertion is where I would put my money at this point. It's sad really. As much as I love Arma 3, after the way they treated DayZ and put more resources into Ylands, a game that virtually few people play because the CEO likes it, I see no reason to grace BI with one more dime of my money. There are 43 people playing Ylands right now while 17,459 people are suffering through shitty vehicle physics in DayZ. And yet as far as we know the dev team for YLands is much, MUCH larger than DayZ. Just WTF? There is no good reason to not have vehicle physics being a priority for DayZ. And hasn't been for at least 2 years.

    Arma 2 circa 2013.... Notice how the vehicle is COMPLETELY driveable and doesn't kill everyone in it. That is a rare occurence in DayZ SA. This is a prime example of how well vehicles worked in Arma 2. They were client side. Now they are server side and can't hold a candle. I just noticed Impulz responded here. I'd like to address his response: There is NOTHING incorrect about my assertion that the vehicles are not working. They do not work reliably, that is a factual statement. I am certain this is a complicated matter, a matter that was CAUSED by the decision to make them server-sided under the guise of halting hackers. At least, that is what we were told at the time. On a populated server, you will fly into space REGULARLY. It has happened to me personally 4 days in a row, until I gave up on that server. I'd call that DAILY. I agree taht some don't experience it as much as others but that is to be expected as DayZ is a complicated simulation. Some people don't play on high pop servers, and therefore, don't experience this phenomena as much as those that do. But the problem technically EXISTS on EVERY server. A problem that was caused by the aforementioned decision to make the server the authority. I can't argue with HOW MANY HOURS the devs have worked on the problem since it was implemented, but I damn sure can argue with the results over the last several years and the words you all devs have said about the vehicle issues. Well, what little has been said anyway. I am certain it is frustrating as hell, but with the lack of communication from the devs and the fact that they are STILL broken.... how would you think fans of the game would react? Why would ANYONE think a vehicle launching into space, where you lose hours of progress to a now admitted KNOWN ISSUE by the devs, would be impressive? How on earth can a dev laugh at such misfortune caused by decisions (good or bad can be debated) they and those before them made? Is it funny, in the context of the video, yes. To the player experiencing it, not in the long run. It's highly effing frustrating. After YEARS, why the hell not? Why would anyone find it acceptable to go into Beta for ONE MONTH and not fix a major part of the game. You are essentially saying vehicles are an afterthought. And that is EXACTLY what they feel like, btw. Just something amusing for the Youtube crowd to post funny videos about. That's how many hours I have played this game. I love it. I want to see it be the best in it's genre. With all the "fixes" being brought to the game, why aren't vehicles a bigger priority? I'm sure it's complex and difficult, but over two years of dealing with them in their current state is ENOUGH. Impulz, I'm glad you came here to address the topic, I hope we can continue the discussion.

    Our server runs a dedicated 4 cores to DayZ and 16 GB of memory. We are not messing around. All SSD's and on a 1Gb connection directly plugged into Google Fiber. Ping times are low, and we need players. Namalsk is a lot of fun, we have bases going up in many areas, and we are looking for mature players needing a DayZ home. Must love Survival and PvP. Our server is not setup for easy mode. It's cold, wet and we have a number of additional enemies that want to make mince meat of you. Come join us in our Discord.     New Update

    Excuse me, the new Player controller and all the BS that went with it including losing most of the weapons, making vehicles server sided, etc was (in part) due to LIMITATIONS of Consoles. This game was dumbed down due to the money grab, it's that simple. I cannot recall a single game made for PC that was made better by supporting consoles... NOT ONE. Developers made more money by "adjusting" i.e. dumbing down their product for the peasants. Consoles are fun for kids, but at some point you grow up and by a PC and experience games as THEY SHOULD BE.

    Vehicles have been a HUGE part of DayZ since the mod. They are far more important on the larger maps as that is how you move around quickly and carry items to and from bases. Yes, you can build a base without a vehiclein many, many hours of work, or you can cut that time down significantly with a vehicle. Raiding bases and towing gear is much simpler with a vehicle as well. Vehicles really are not end game, but they are a necessary mechanic toward end game.

    When vehicles were first implemented in Standalone, they worked ok. They had issues, weren't persistent, etc, but they were reliable for the most part, then they made them server sided, biggest blunder ever. So they took many weapons away for the engine change, and fixing them as they bring them in, but whatever they have done for vehicles has not worked and they are unreliable as hell. It's not issue related, it was AND STILL IS a boneheaded decision to stop people from hacking vehicles, which, BTW, they are still hacking the shit out of everything else on DayZ Public servers. So wow, hackers can't touch vehicles now. Whoopie, but they can still pretty much do anything else they want to do, AND normal players can't reliably use vehicles to gather equipment and base building materials without becoming astronauts. So, it was AND STILL is a terrible mechanic for players and needs to be fixed once and for all. Unreliable vehicles and DESYNC kill this game for most people.

    What should have been an option from the get go? VEHICLES THAT ACTUALLY WORK EVERY TIME YOU USE THEM. 3+ YEARS AND VEHICLES ARE STILL UNRELIABLE! Just yesterday, on a server running a 3900X Processor with 16 GB of memory and 2 players online, I watched a V3S spin like a tornado into the ocean. No one in it, it was on flat concrete and it just began bouncing and eventually started spinning in mid air and made it's way to the coast and ocean, and that was on NAMALSK which has far better performance than Chernarus could ever have. My signature says it all for 2021, nothing less is acceptable, please no more hats, just fix the vehicles to be reliable and consistent.

    TONIGHT @ 9:00 PM CST. HUNT THE ADMIN MINI EVENT. I will be accompanied by 3 bodyguards. We will be travelling the map. IN-GAME Messages will announce current and future locations. Other OWG squads will be playing against, but will not receive a reward. Other squads and non-OWG can receive a reward for doing the following: Admin will be hostile unless all bodyguards are killed, then a surrender must be negotiated in game. for Admin to lay down weapons. CAPTURE AND HOLD ADMIN till MIDNIGHT, admin must stay alive, or event begins anew. If ADMIN IS KILLED, then he will start fresh, regear, and locations will be announced as above. REWARD: ONE BAG FULL OF BASE BUILDING TOOLS AND ONE TENT WITH HIGHER END WEAPONRY. WINNERS SHOULD COME TO OUR DISCORD AT THE END. SERVER: THE GEARED THE ZEDS AND THE DEAD! SEE YOU THERE!

    Everyone says consoles didn't hurt the PC version of the game, and that is complete hogwash. DayZ has always had issues, but the community was misled about adding consoles to the mix, DayZ is essentially where they beta stuff for the new Enfusion engion engine. The way Bohemia has developed this game is a textbook case study in how NOT to develop your game in the open and essentially shove your community by the wayside. Personally, after 7000 hours in this game, I doubt I will ever by another Early Access title from BI. I'd rather them just put it out for release and then determine if it's worth buying. They really pooched the screw on DayZ. I love this game so damn much, but BI gave birth and have almost destroyed it.

    What would make a Dayz perfect game?

    Open world games tend to have craploads of bugs for years, but many of them, like No Man's Sky, rise above and course correct themselves when the community explains to the devs they need to not make promises they cannot keep. They need to fix the bugs that plague the experience and make things unnecessarily difficult. No Man's Sky went from being one of the worst games and game launches to being an absolute classic games with beautiful eye candy and a game that is fun as hell by yourself or with friends. DayZ has always had THAT potential in it's bug ridden state. The community has been telling BI for years and years this is the case, but they do the bare minimum. They only listen to influencers, and even then, they don't make the changes that would take the game to another level, they do only what is necessary to keep a full on revolt from happening. At this stage in the game, I'm not sure that would make a difference. The fact that they now NEVER deliver any status updates on what they are working on, they refuse to communicate with their player base, tells me there is little hope for the game anymore. Our group melded together around Dayz back in 2014. 2014-2017 were the glory days for "The Standalone". While I am sure BI will continue to trickle out little things here and there so they can say they delivered what they promised, it will all be a sham and too late since they missed their window of opportunity to keep people engaged in it. I guess DayZ and No Man's Sky does have something in common. It is a fact, in both games, you can travel into space and go where no man has gone before. In NMS, that is the planned gameplay, in DayZ it's just a bonus the devs give us for playing... a bonus NONE of us wanted or need.
