    Dear BI,

Allow me to start by thanking you for this great game. You have done it, you really you hit the spot!!!

Also, many thanks for the last update, it is a blast; fixing almost all bugs is always a priority with you guys, and it is notable in this almost bug-free update, how much you care for us the players and do any possible effort to provide us versions of a bug free game, well, except the ones I will mention below, which are acceptable, as the new features are insanely impressing and complex.

    The bugs I found:

    1. I can't remove a cassette from the cassette player in the truck, I need to exit and re-enter the truck for changing cassettes, which is annoying since each cassette is holding one song, so long drives require many stops to listen to full albom, or when just getting tired of the same song. - This doesn't happen in the cargo truck only in the naked version (tow truck???).
    2.  Also when trying to remove a cassette from a cassette player in houses it doesn't work, I need to reconnect in order to accomplish this simple task.
    3. Regarding the bears, they are very violent, nevertheless, I was able to catch a bear using the special rope hanging on my backpack, he walked fine and stayed where  it was tied, I logged out for 10 min, when logging back in, the bear disappeared and only the improvised leash was near the tree, is this a bug or feature (the bear has escaped?), when tying wolves they stay where tied, but they don't bark or attack Z's -  is it a canin feature of domestication or a bug?
    4. When writing in the notebook using  black and blue pens the writing appears, when using other colors the writing disappear (tried using red and yellow).
    5. We had many issues regarding base building, but we will give that a seperate post since base building was never the focus of the update.

That's it for now, I will keep on looking for bugs as my main duty is QA for free (well, I do pay for the game so it is not exactly free).

    P.S.

We loved the Livonia trailer, it was an exact description of the update that came.

    Best Regards,

    The Captain

I think this is one of the most brilliant pieces of comedy posted on these boards, on par with that Australian fella John Clarke ("the front fell off"). If it's not what I think it is, then you might be insane in just about the most beautiful way, so please never ever change. Either way, have my beans. Thanks!

What bothers me is the 100% infection when drinking from a found bottle. Granted, there could be all sorts of explanation why, but in general I don't think it makes sense. Bottled or tap water normally does not become infectious just because. Here I would say that the chance should be very very low.

When I joined DayZ, I always assumed that water in found bottles and canteens is unsafe, in the sense of literally 'coming from un unknown source, you never know what's there'. I always took a precaution to bring the container to a well, for like a year or something. I'm not saying I have an argument for that, just stating my initial intuitions. I guess 100% of infection is as unintuitive as 0%, at least for me.

    @Greensek

Thank you for your responses in this thread.  I am not sure if it is appropriate to ask in this thread but I am curious to know if there are any planned changes to the handheld transceivers in the game?  As far as I can tell they have remained unchanged since release yet not many players seem to find any incentive to use them.  Perhaps the static noise in the game could be adjusted lower to make the sound less abrasive to the player and other surrounding players or maybe the sound level of a pristine or worn walkie talkie could be lowered?

I toyed with radios and I would mention two problems: 1) the battery lasts only some 1,5 h and it's a chore to hunt for it (and I already use some for headtorches, rangefinders, scopes etc.) 2) the radio weighs 2kg, which is a lot if you just want to be on a 'lookout' for communications.

But yeah, the static noise level is a bit too loud, too.

And again, I get that, it's just that people kinda seem to pop in like; is there a bow yet?! No? KTNXBYE.

As a big fan of bows, I was surprised in a good way by the public outcry about them. I was sure that there's like, two of us players relying on archery. Bows give that 'stealthy bushman but still dangerous' vibe and constitute a great difference between this and other FPS titles. They also grant two perks - the ability to clear out zeds in a silent way (it's so much more immersive to dispose of zeds via arrows rather than punching with food cans) and to hunt - currently, everyone and their mother knows I shot a deer within some 3km. I used to down a full herd of cows near towns, knowing I only have to worry about people who see me, not those who can hear the gunshot. And once I managed to kill a pack of wolves with the bow. Ah, what a great time it was. If I could vote for a trivia feature, it would be a craftable wolf tooth necklace.

    Why?

We had Both and they both worked fine.

If it ain't broke dont try to fix it. They did. We all know the results....

I believe that they need to rework the entire mechanics in the new engine as archery is basically 'throwing' arrows. I hope that when the bows come, they will work well enough (the first itinerations were very unreliable, later fixed in the old engine). At least, that's what I'm telling myself...

As far as I know, two types of bows are already in the game files. So "we get them when they're ready". 😄

There are private server - RP. They work rules that prohibit KoS without cause, or KoS outside certain areas for KoS. Violation of the rules - a ban.

I believe that the OP had a different point to make (that on servers without any rules, KoS still shouldn't be the default).

  6. Good luck with that! KOS is one of the worst impairments to an interesting gameplay in DayZ, definitely worse than all the bugs combined.

I recommend checking out various servers, HC with night seems to involve less KOS. Also, DUG servers limit ammo spawns a lot, this definitely affects players' behaviour.

Keep it up, hope to see you around in Chernarus!

Remember: "Catch the Rain" will drastically reduce the importance of wells and waters if the weather setting is for "more rain".

On the one hand, I remember dying of thirst in a pouring rain and it sure seemed frustrating and silly (i.e. immersion-breaking). On the other hand, the difficulty level should be maintained, at least in my humble opinion. To put it differently - in a thunderstorm, people should have problems other than water to worry about. For example, wood should get wet and be unusable without many attempts, or something like that.

    wtf? it's probably lag... surely

It's probably lag, but it feels different. The acceleration I mentioned feels like acceleration, not like the server finally pushed me forward. And it's a low-ping low-pop server which didn't act so funny before. Just checking here if it's not a lag but something else.

And yes, I enjoy myself on an empty server a lot. Just cruising around, sightseeing and looking for wolves. Happy hunting!

  9. Also, has anyone experienced some weird car behaviour recently? I tried several in the past few days and at first, I suspected lag, but then I realized it's like someone would at random accelerate and decelerate my car (this accounting for slopes). Is it my connection or what?

what do you mean poor man's PUBG? First of all... PUBG is CHEAPER then current DayZ ... also there is PUBG Lite which is free to play wtf do you mean DayZ is poor man's PUBG xDD wtf

Maybe I put it wrong, but I meant quality, not price. I did some PVP in DayZ and it sucks. There are so many games that do it better. Like I said above, if only because of the bugs. I put up with bugs in my DayZ experience which I would never accept in my shooter (just duping, wall clipping and hackers would be enough to uninstall).

You're suggesting a scarcity of guns that is not going to make the title popular.  Also,  this was never intended to be a hardcore survival game.

I rarely see a sentence here which with I'd disagree more. You did read what's on the box, right?

As for what makes DayZ popular, I'd recommend refraining from overgeneralizations. I've seen practically all types of 'What people want from DayZ is X' statements, and they can be always boiled down to 'What I want from DayZ is X'. We don't want to hide our expectations behind preferences of a hypothetical average player, do we?

For one, I believe that 'hardcore survival' is the only thing which makes DayZ stand out. It's a piss poor FPS if only because of the bugs (I don't think most players are as patient as we are), so there's little point in making it similar to other titles.

I changed my playstyle because of the following reasons:

    1. Stamina. It no longer makes sense to carry all the loot and be cumbersome. I need one rifle, some backup gun and mainly clothes to blend in.
    2. I wanted to play differently, that is mainly to stalk player areas, go discover the corners etc. There are many small changes around the map, plus players tend to hide their bases on the edges.

I tend to agree with TAMW, precisely because I used to follow more of your playstyle and there were even months when I relied only on harvest and hunting for food (then I got bored of it).

But the game shouldn't be 'hardcore' only to those who choose to. If it is, then it's just 'easy' and this affects all playstyles. What am I even doing, picking mushrooms in the woods, when in all towns and cities it seems like a Mardi Gras? I'd expect people who control a hospital and meds to be hungrier than the deer hunter visiting them.

And yes @TAMW, I remember the scarcity of 'golden tickets'. 😄 Unless every bullet counts, this will be just a poor man's PUBG.

So the first 3 times I encountered another survivor in game I tried to be friendly and speak with them and they just shot me dead, even though I had no guns to shoot back.    I was also shot in the back by someone I never even seen.    So the next time I run into someone I pulled out my gun and started blasting them, and they were yelling WTF but IDK maybe you want to kill me lol.     What is the proper game edicate lol?

There are many friendlies out there, don't give up. KOSers are a big group and by the nature of their condition, they believe and they will tell you that they're the only ones. That's simply not true, you just need more experience in judging behaviour.

There's no one specific protocol for approaching players and your awareness will only grow with time. If I can recommend something, give a try to 1-person perspective, it attracts more mature players. Servers with nighttime or stuff like 'no crosshair' also tend to come with more interesting interactions.

If you're fed up with losing progress or KOS bores you, there are also servers with strict anti-KOS or anti-PVP policies. I'm not fond of them as I like the threat level on 'open' Chernarus, but it's a matter of taste. Sometimes it's a very fresh change to cruise around the map knowing you won't be shot at.

Play more, don't be afraid to engage other players but watch them closely, try various servers. Let us know how it goes.

Not a feature, the team is already working on it and should be fixed soon 😉

BTW, I like that you're here and I appreciate how you talk to us and communicate our output to the devs. Despite all that happened, I strongly believe that we need better communication with the devs and this community is not without fault for all the bad blood between our groups. I hope that after the Great Troubles of December 2018 we can mend fences and that our community can continue to co-create the end shape of DayZ. So thanks and keep it up! 🙂

And PLEASE, do not make basebuilding any better or "balanced". It shits on server performance and ruins the game IMO, and certainly don't belong in vanilla.. If people want OP basebuilding, they can play on modded servers with retarded long or disabled wall/lock breakdown. Blocked off buildings and abandoned structures everywhere, bases with sniper towers and people hiding away in gunfights is just no fun.

This and twice. if you hate the fact that an axe destroys wood (like it was designed for that or something, pff) or if you simply can't be bothered to hide your shit in a good place, please go to modded servers. Wood is not vibranium.

    • The black inventory bug, it was well documented I think.

I wonder if that wasn't a feature we all mistook for a bug. I have a vague impression the darkness was somehow related to the night and I have one distinct memory of it going away when near either a light source or dawn. It would make sense not to see colours at night, wouldn't it? But it occurred to me only after the free weekend.

Anyhow, I loved the harsh experience and please don't wussify it. Less deadly rain could be compensated e.g. with tougher zeds (although their numbers were impressive).

  17. Didn't want to start a new topic, so... Any ideas as to bear spawns? I'm finally ready to hunt and anything more specific than 'the South' would come in very handy. Also, should I expect wolves down there?

Chernarus is, hands-down, the best map I've ever encountered in any game, but so far I love the experience in Livonia. I love the harsh environment and any new assets I find (like closeable ovens in ruined houses) make me very excited. I hope so much that one way or another, the devs will keep the difficulty level up. This one goes to 11!

Big thumbs up, I think I'm a buyer.

where do i find rocks to make knives with.  have only played a cpl times since we could just make em on the beach.

Within like 10 hours, I haven''t found a single one and I did give a longer try to hiking trails. I think your best chance for knives is normal looting, they're rare but they're there.

gotta say before the one guy jumped me i ran into 4 seperate different people that all turned out to be friendly.  am definately pleased with the ratio

I’ve had the same (got KOSed once, met 20 friendlies) and I believe this is directly proportional to the PVE challenge. Common wisdom would say that in harsh environment, people would vie for resources (‘this guy might have food on him’), but it turns out it’s rather the opposite – ‘this guy is surely as hungry as I am and not likely to carry uneaten food on him, so I might as well come up and talk, maybe he has a rope for a fishing rod’ (an actual request I was met with).

If we ever get a map which justifies such harsh settings (Siberia?), I'd fork out a nice handful of bucks and never complain again.

  20. On the one hand, I understand that rain effects seem way too off (like it was liquid nitrogen or something), but on the other - I'm loving the difficulty level of PVE so much! I love bringing my toon back from the brink of death (health indicator blinking for a while), just in time to find a well. Or when I don't have a knife and I'm one bark away from making a campfire, then somebody shows up, we kill a pig and roast it. Just today my health was blinking two times and with a bit of luck (and good knowledge of mechanics) I'm currently warm and well-fed, ready to explore more.

I agree that people shouldn't die after 3 minutes of rain, but... maybe we survivors have barely eked out for a long time? What if out 'full health' status is actually quite low in objective terms, like for a person stranded on a desert island for a long time, without access to health care and proper nutrients? Anyhow, I hope the devs tinker with settings but leave the difficulty, one way or another!

Many people here interpret 'survival' as 'surviving PVP fights'. My approach is more 'staving off death from hunger, thirst and cold'. And Livonia sure delivers! 'Just barely not dying' is my favourite story in DayZ. Too bad Chernarus is currently a soft fantasy world with no actual PVE challenge.

  21. Can someone tell me how the new DLC's gonna affect Chernarus? Will we see any new assets? I'm thinking mainly about the bear and I can't figure out which scenario to expect: 1) bears only in Livonia, 2) bears in Livonia and Chernarus, but only for DLC buyers, 3) bears come to Chernarus for everyone once Livonia hits the shelves. So which one is it?

  22. Damn, I thought the picture says 187. I definitely hit 188, but it was seconds before I died. Anyhow, it's a fun challenge and I'm gonna try it again. 😉
