Is it allowed to leave a server when...

You're supposed to combine the worm and the hook in your hands. Sometimes the game cares about the combining order, sometimes it doesn't (i.e. sometimes it matters which of the combinable items you need to hold in hands). Only then take the rod to hands and 'apply' the improvised bait. The rest should work as normal. You can fish at any time. Enjoy your catch!

    Stable Update 1.06

Do you guys think it is even possible to make the first hours challenging for a vet? I have to say, I actually enjoyed the open Livonia weekend. For the first time in a long while, I considered it 'hard' to actually survive. Like when it was pouring rain and I was happy to just find a waterproof bag - I'd put my pants in it and run around from house to house, bag in my hands (still dying of hunger and thirst, of course). The other moment, a fireplace still smouldering after another player actually saved my life (I had seconds to rekindle it). This kind of stuff. I mean I know it was totally 'unrealistic' (between Arctic rains and the metabolism of a shrew), but barely eking out on last supplies and constantly fending off death by the skin of your teeth is the definition of 'survival' in my book. I have very fond memories of that weekend. And a chicken fillet which saves you from death tastes completely different, that's one thing I can tell. But I don't know how to bring back those experiences without making the game unplayable for most.

    Stable Update 1.06

Been wondering the same. Probably another victim of the engine change. Started today fresh, on a server with food spawn decreased. I'm inclined to believe that it's possible (albeit tedious) to live off of chickens alone. With 4 of them in Gliniska and half an hour after respawn, the game is as easy as it always has.

    Make the mosin great again

I was thinking about petting a bear from a distance with a high caliber like 7.62 or .308, then finishing him off at close quarters with a USG. The latter has an impressive stopping power and is my favourite secondary, do you think it's not enough for a wounded bear? Also, I understand that bears are armoured beyond what's suggested by zoology, but please let's keep them that way (or higher) for the sake of threat level. It's still a lesser suspension of disbelief that wolves' attitude of 'someone's shooting in our forest, you guys know what to do'.

    Stable Update 1.06

I have a question - I finally got around to play 1.06 after some away time and was looking forward to the new increased aggro radius of zeds triggered by each other's aggro-roars. However, on my favourite server, which has 'vanilla' in its name, the radius seems to be unchanged, i.e. quite small. Was it brought back down in the recent updates? Why, was there any outcry about it? Also, does anyone know how bears react vis-a-vis tents? Do they quickly maul one or is it an impenetrable fortress? And do bear traps work, you know, on bears? I can go and check myself, but I hope someone else was a brave pioneer before. I must say, as an avid hunter, I'm so excited on Livonia! So much to shoot at! I filled my energy bar within 2 playing sessions and I have absolutely no idea how people can complain about FOOD in this patch.

    Stable Update 1.06

Nobody here is against you, buddy. You can act weird sometimes, but that is normal at your, ekhm, level of hormones. Trust me, you’ll feel much better in the future – the youth as the best part in life is way, way over-hyped. For now, I could recommend rereading your posts before submitting them and treating others like you would like them to treat you. An additional splash of respect or good manners will get you much further than you’d expect, even if it’s not obvious at the first glance (especially on this board). If I had needed a good piece advice when I was 18, it must have been that "nobody is entitled to anything". Want a good reputation, earn it. Another one would be "never pretend you know something you don't, it's not a shame to ask questions", but that's a different story.

    General direction and bitter thoughts

My maxim for Chernarus is "no matter how often you play and how much you roam, there must be a location where you haven't been in a year. Go check it out."

Precisely as we speak in another section of the forum there's a troll which tries to get under our skin with literally the same arguments. If you're truly not joking, your timing couldn't be worse.

These days it's getting harder and harder to tell if someone is an idiot or a troll, don't you think?

😄 it's for pieces like this that I'm not among the ones reporting your ass. Don't overdo it though, cupcake.
  12. (I'm on vacations in Moscow so I can't play 1.06 yet, which is why my topic doesn't pertain to it). Recently, I spent some time toying with DayZ sound systems and trying to figure out what I can get out of them. I was always interested in the possibilities of radio (if there is one absolutely fantastic feature of modern Fallout games, i.e. F3+, it's definitely radio) and wanted to explore the many options to broadcast sound, from good ol' music to RP-style communications. Here's what I did: 1) As I have started to learn Spanish, I decided to join a Spanish-speaking forum, found a car battery and headed straight to the PA system in Elektro. Once there, I played some music (simply put my cellphone to my mike) and then started to talk in a faux-transmission about how I'm a local DJ and I invite everyone to chat and eat (I had planted some veggies around the house). Although the server was high-pop PVP-heavy, several guys quickly turned up and showed no hostile intentions (would you really kill a foreigner trying to speak your language and handing you food?). We talked some, we attracted some zeds, I died. Great evening. 2) In order to introduce radio to Chernarus, I headed to a low-pop server and borrowed a friend of mine's character. I took him to my base, put a field radio in his hands, again put my cellphone (with Fallout radio from Youtube) to the laptop, and then I started to play with my main character, a walkie-talkie on my backpack. And how it works! This is the closest to an actual in-game radio you can get and I felt like I invented an analogue mod. :D. Pretending that there's an actual radio station while I looted and hunted was one of my best solo sessions in a long time. One drawback - you're constantly on the hunt for more batteries, as they only last for some 1.5h. Luckily, vanilla zeds do drop some every once and then. A field transmitter operates for under 3 h on one car battery, but these can be charged with just a generator and a charger. More fun facts - a field transmitter works when put on the ground (has a radius of several metres), in a trunk of a car and even when you put it in a waterproof bag and bury it! You can bury a working radio in someone else's base and have a lot of fun at their expense. I have yet to check how a buried radio works as a transmitter, I only checked that it receives. So my question to you is - how do you use the sound systems and what do you make of them? Do you care about them at all? If so, how? If not, what could change your mind? Do you have any wishes which we could ask the devs for? A separate question - do you use hand-held radio for communications with other players? My dreams: 1) Access to some/most/all the PA systems across Chernarus from one station like Zenit. Like, a common transmitter for Elektro+Cherno or Novo+Severo, something like that. Right now it's kinda hard to reach people who don't carry receivers on their backs, and being limited to one city is a huge restriction. 2) Make it possible for the in-game radio to pick up not only the microphone of the sender, but also all in-game sounds around the radio. As it is right now, if you talk over the radio and shoot, the recipient wouldn't hear it. This is also one way in which I could finally hear myself when I play music for people, i.e. I could leave a transmitter at the PA system and connect to that unit with a hand-held device while looting. Any more ideas, comments, remarks?

Radio and PA - what is your experience?

Exactly, baby! 😄 When I played Fallout 3, I immediately fell in love with Three Dog and spent a lot of time just wandering the Wasteland with his voice and music in the background. I'd love to recreate that feeling in Chernarus (and actually I did with a spare character I mentioned above). And to those who'd say it's corny - I believe that the Fallout series, especially F1 and F2, proved that an apocalypse doesn't have to take itself too seriously to stay immersive. Noted. Where can we even pass this feedback to the devs? A long time ago I used to assume they read this board, now I'm not so sure. I know I wouldn't in their shoes. It seems to me that they didn't make sound systems too useful because we don't use them anyway, and we don't use them because they're not that useful. Stuff like a persistent field radio with longer battery could really change a lot. Charging 9V batteries would be a blessing. Yeah, I suspected that with external VOIP. Anyway, this topic helps me realize what difference a car radio (with a player) could make. Driving around with the radio on could help pick up much more broadcast than just running around. And give an incentive to set up a server-wide radio for all the commuters. And so on, and so on. Clearly, we need more options when in a car, right now you can't even check a map or compass (to say nothing of shooting).

    Stable Update 1.06

They could just add more wolf spawns on the way to the NWAF. 😉 Granted, it's possible to skip forests when going through Sobors/Kabanino. Anyhow, thanks for all the input and keep us posted if you notice something. I'm interested in all tiny info related to animal AI.
  15. Kirov (DayZ)

Radio and PA - what is your experience?

Yep, exactly. I think there are two factors here - one is all the fuss required to put up a working radio station (even putting an extra battery in a walkie-talkie is an effort, considering you can use forgo it all and power a rangefinder), and the second is that the chance of two different people turning on their radios at the same time, no matter how easy it would be, is still a needle in a haystack thing. Is it possible to force players to use ingame communication and drop external apps like discord, ts and skype? If it can be done, people would need to pick up their radio more often. Not sure if even I wanted it when I talk to my friend, though. Also, what do you mean that the voice quality should be lowered? I have talked through a radio only a few times so I don't know how it sounds. So far, I was mainly broadcasting. A cassette player (especially in a car) would be a blast. Both for cruisin' around and for leaving messages. It reminds me how I miss the note writing.

I myself hate playing the Paladin the Cheater-Slayer, but there's a difference between 'cheating is bad' and 'cheating is expensive'. I just don't see a redemption arc here. Just wanted to make it clear, have it your way.

    Stable Update 1.06

Thanks for your input. The 'solo bear/wolf pack' is simple enough, but the above variable still gives me a pause. Shouldn't the value for bears be 1, for a '1-bear pack'? If 0 is 'no pack', then why 8 is 'an 8-wolf pack'? How would a value of 1 behave in this case? It's not important to the gameplay, I'm just curious about the numbers. Sometimes I play this 1pp near-empty server to wind up after a day of work, and I take my SKS and just roam around wolf spawns (Nespesnov, Devil's and Black Mountain castles), often alone on the server, straight after the restart. Sometimes I can't find a target for a long time (up to 20 spawn points). What is the possible reason for that? For that matter, I almost always find wolves at the Eastern entrance to Tisy, but as mentioned recently here, they'd usually get a surprisingly heavy beating from the nearby zeds. Not a challenge to finish them off. Also worth noting, the first wolves introduced would roam in packs of 7. Sorry to hear the devs scaled it down. So in practical terms, should I read it as 'forget about sneaking on wolves'? No amount of crawling and laying prone, listening and scoping would help me with that? Hunting in DayZ should really be closer to something which pretends to be hunting. Anyway, great discussion, most of other game forums have that as a standard instead of bitching about development.

Guys, you know you're helping a guy who swears to quit hacking only because it's 'too expensive'? He'll be duping the first ammo box he finds.

    FOOD

99 out of 100 cases on this forum, people don't complain because a given feature bothers them as 'unrealistic'. It bothers them because it's detrimental to their preferred gameplay, which almost always means that they'd rather shoot than take care of food, health, etc. It works like this: a feature that's unrealistic and bothersome (FOOD) - 'real life doesn't work like that, what were they thinking, stupid devs?!' a feature that's unrealistic and very useful (rifles fitting in your pants) - 'hey, it's just a game, let's not make it work like real life, I just want to have fun'.

    Stable Update 1.06

Thank you and beans for one of the most informative posts in the recent time. I've learnt a lot, but I'm still scratching my beard in some places. Could you do me a big one and talk like to someone who doesn't regularly deal with such variables? I know this forum seems at times to consist only of professional devs, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's a layman. 😉 So again, what do the nominal, min and max do? I reread it several times and I don't think I full grasp it. Possibly a related question - what is the actual chance of triggering a pack/a bear when near a spawn point? Is it affected by other instances during the same server session? Does the 'time' on the server (i.e. time since restart), or other factors, matter at all? Can you find info about the aggro radius of a wolf pack? In the first itinerations it was possible to sneak up on them, but later I found out that no matter how much I crouch and sneak, the howling always comes before the visual. I came to conclude that they must have a 'magical detection' range. Is that true? Do herbivores behave in any way similar to predators? I was quite sure that these spawn at the server restart and roam the map, mainly between water reservoirs (or at least that's what the devs assured us about back in the day). Can you find how many of deer/cow herds spawn? Or is there some other feature we haven't been told? Thanks in advance!

    Stable Update 1.06

Ah, to see a bear taking on a pack of wolves! I've always wondered how many packs actually spawn with each restart and how many bears we can expect at any given time.

    Stable Update 1.06

I believe this is the same guy who posted as Survivorsth back a half a year ago. Or at least another regular who'd like to fuck with us in exactly the same way (I wouldn't be that surprised - if I wanted to piss off this forum, I'd just put on a fanboy hat; seems to work every time). I kinda even missed him because he could be kinda funny, so as long as he doesn't derail any serious discussions, I say don't feed the troll and let him be.

    Stable Update 1.06

You sure? Was it vanilla or the server wasn't tweaked for bears in? Thank you so much for the info, I'm combing the Western Chernarus first thing when I get back from my holidays. So glad to read it! 🙂

    General direction and bitter thoughts

This, and time ten. I disagree 100% with almost each sentence of the OP and I just don't understand the nerve you have. They have already dumbed down Dayz for folks exactly like you (let's call you 'a guy with simpler expectations' for the sake of a polite argument). If they give you auto sort inventory, you (or someone like you) would come and demand manual transmission. And then the hunger meter to be removed. This race to the bottom must stop somewhere. As everywhere else said, but I feel I need to add to that: you're just confused and playing the wrong game all along. There are so many titles created especially for you, many of them AAA.

I regret buying Livonia... Read plz

You might want to consider what kind of impression you make. I'm not saying you have to do this or that, I'm just pointing out that you should be aware how you are perceived. For starters, your overuse of ellipses (that's those three dots... you use instead of a period) make you look like you discovered the Internet yesterday, so you sound like you're either 13 or that uncle everyone has. Do what you want, just understand the effects. You're allowed to behave in a childish way, but if you start clickbait topics like this one, you should be prepared that many people, me including, will roll their eyes. You can't have your cake and eat it too, i.e. you can't behave in a 'silly prankster' mode and then demand a kind of respect given to someone more mature. It's one way or another. One more piece of advice - it's useful to contribute something meaningful, at least every now and then. A well-thought-out insight, a piece of game mechanics you discovered, something like that. This is not exactly a Yahoo chat room for people bored at work.
