    Can't combine items?

You can't eat an unsliced pumpkin now, or at least - couldn't last night.

    Can't combine items?

Learnt it the hard way, as I starved holding my hunting knife and a pumpkin. The knife wasn't able to cut a long stick into smaller ones, either.

Are wounds and puddles still coming?

Ok, cheers. They've been silent about it since they announced hiring a team from another game specifically about hunting. This was many, many years ago...

Are wounds and puddles still coming?

I recall (from a few years back) that trails of blood were to be a part of the broader mechanics of animal tracking. Do you perchance have any more up-to-date info on this issue?

Not surprised by negativity about upcoming 1.0

What ET and IMT have already said, but let me stress it again - dude, everyone shoots at you because you're insufferable. You sound like you consider not shooting someone a weakness, and that's a red flag for almost all types of players. But also, the most embarrassing part in your post is that 'playing since one'. Want to know how you sound like? 'Guys, I've played chess since I was five and now I can hit a squirrel with a pawn from 30m away. Yeah I know some people move pieces around on that faggy 'chessboard' thing, but I've always thought it's for eggheads who wear glasses and can't hit shit with a chess piece. Once I played like that, but the guy won, so I simply smashed my pieces into his face and said 'Checkmate THIS, asshole'. And now I just carry chess pieces in my pocket and throw them at everyone who wears glasses. Trust me, I haven't lost a chess throwing fight for years, that's how good I am at the noble, ancient game of chess'. You need to wake up, you male bimbo. There's a whole world out there that you're missing. Also also, in the midst of this epic shitstorm, I'd like to thank the DayZ dev team, from the bottom of my heart, not to make a game that this guy expects.

But anyway, it's just idea. In my experience, "the end of the year" in marketing language usually means "Dec, 24".

What does it have to do with the issue? Whether a product physical or electronic, you still want to have it out there, labeled hot and complete. At all costs.

A contract with Santa? Many games in the history were pushed without key features to meet the Dec 24 deadline. IIRC, Civilization 3 was first published without working multiplayer, and that was much before the current trend of releasing all those pre-ordered games in actually unplayable state, like Assassin's Creed: Unity (just a hearsay, didn't play it).

    DayZ and its future

I was thinking about your answer and while it's technically true, I believe the discrepancies among various 'perfections' and betwen them and the reality is not what is at stake here. Simply put, scrambled eggs or not, SKS or not, the version proposed in the latest SR is not what any DayZ player would consider 'final'. I can agree that i.e. the list of vehicles may be not exhaustive and in fact may remain ever-expanding (remember that Helos in Arma 3 came with a separate - and paid - DLC). But many features cut on the floor would be expected by almost everyone to find their way into 1.0, let's say a year ago. So this is not all about your favourite fishing/bows/bikes/whatever, but about the status of the given version on the timeline. Not 'finished' of course, but a product which you can call a 'game' and no longer handwave any problems with 'shouldn't've bought EA, suckers'. I don't share the current vitriol towards the dev team, but mainly because I don't even consider that upcoming version as 1.0. It's just 0.64 wrapped up in Christmas paper, nothing more and nothing less. Can't wait for future builds in 2019!

This is not what this entire fuss is about.

    DayZ and its future

Well, you're right about that. The thing is, we all have an image of the future (not to say "perfect") DayZ in our heads. For me, crafting is one of the most essential and satisfying elements here. There were no expectations falsely set up here, I just considered it a given that one day, I'll be able to put various harvest in one cooking pot. And I clearly see that it's a long road here, so no screaming 'where's X!' from me. I'm gonna miss the bow, though. ;)

Not surprised by negativity about upcoming 1.0

Just to make sure - my stoic attitude comes only from the fact that I expect DayZ to stop lying about its 'gritty survival' part (right now it's everything but) in some 1.5-2 years from now. It's obvious that there's a lot to do feature-wise and no 1.0 mantra is going to handwave this away. Hence, I keep waiting. Also, I'd like to clear things about this: I want your copy of DayZ, because it's not the same game I have. I find the DayZ playerbase incredibly dull (or "unimaginative simpletons" if you will). Of course, this doesn't refer to any noble players in this remarkable forum. But in my 1800+ hrs, I had few interesting conversations and I discovered that when people say 'interactions', they usually just mean 'firefights'. And DayZ has always sucked as a shooter, if only due to 1) A-D dance, 2) boring reloot after each death. Even in content-rich builds, most players' single-cell bird brains were incapable of forming a single thought different than "oh a player lets shoot him" (again, this is not about you guys, I'm sure that each and every one of you leads a fascinating life as a post-apocalyptic Survivor). This is why I wait for DayZ to actually become a difficult game, so that people actually struggle to survive in a bleak environment. And I want survivalist content for my lone-wolf gameplay. Just yesterday, I was attacked by a freshie at Rog. He came at me ax-swinging, no talk. I tried to disengage, but he had better stamina. So I took out my crowbar and turned around to fight. We both frantically clicked LMB for a minute, then he dropped dead for some reason. For some people, it's just another day in DayZ, but I find farting a more thrilling experience. OP, if you care for interesting interactions, I recommend strategy games, either turn-based (like Civ) or RTS (like Paradox games). In such games, people use their brains to create compelling and thought-provoking situations. I'm sorry I can't say the same about DayZ player-base (excluding the readers of this exquisite forum, of course). OK, I'm overdoing it a bit, but it would be nice if the OP's phrase "always a different experience" didn't in reality mean "wow, he can either shoot you with a Mosin or flank you with a shotgun, what a gamut of social interactions". And I hear from YT that .63 is much much worse (i.e. = shooty) than the previous builds.

    DayZ and its future

Are we concerned for any new players or for ourselves? If it is for us, I'm fine with calling 1.0 for what it really is - build 0.64 - and calling it a day. It's just a name. I've never expected the final build in this year and judging from the description, I was right to be cautious. All I can hope for now is that build 1.38, released in December 2019, will contain what I wanted from actual 1.0. Yes, I felt kinda insulted but calling my favourite parts of the game "flavour", especially the bow. I've had a long-time suspicion that the survivalist aspects of the game are lower on the list of priorities than declared, and now it's been confirmed. I expected 1.0 to have fully-fledged crucial survival elements in, including the medical system, tracking animals by blood stains, complex cooking recipes... When I think about it right now, that last one is my red line, like wire traps for @IMT. I don't expect an exhaustive list of cooking recipes in 1.0, but making tea or cooking rice and mushroom soup would be a minimum. Instead, we bid farewell to the fish... It's obvious that their 1.0 is not our 1.0. The question is - what does it matter to us, people who frequented this forum all this time?

    Status Report - 23 October 2018

Do we know what's the persistence in this patch? I'm thinking mainly about buried stashes.

You can't dismiss sneakydude like he's one of those customers. I don't follow the numbers of disgruntled players, many of them once-hardcore-fans, I don't read the consistently abysmal Steam reviews. All I need as a proof is the current state of this forum - 2 new 'this project is a joke' threads per week and an occasional "Is X in game yet? Oh, it's not, ok". I have two ways to demonstrate easily that trust was indeed abused: 1) First - and I need you to be honest with yourself - close your eyes and imagine that you time travel to the moment when DayZ EA launch promo content was being prepared, in 2012 or 2013. Would you really - and I mean really? - disclose to the public the real, actual timeline of all that so far has happened? That in mid-2018, many features will be still in the 'we're working on it' stage? And the most recent additions are limping and hiking trails? That whatever makes people drool - base building, aircraft or complex survivalist content - is nowhere in sight in 2018? Just a thing to consider, we don't need to discuss what you actually would or wouldn't do. And how many customers would have been left. But remember that there's something suspicious in finding 3 million buyers and then claiming that you specifically advised them not to do exactly what they did, so their frustrations are completely on them. 2) Another example of how I trust official statements: somewhere in early 2018 - maybe March - I read a statement from the staff that 'by the end of of this year, we'll release beta and likely 1.0, too' (I'm really hazy about the wording). And for a split second I didn't believe that 1.0 part. In fact, my first thoughts were 'Beta? Maybe, but likely with some huge issues (like crashing servers). Final release? Only a complete retard would take that at face value'. Lo and behold, we sure gonna get beta... but without not only aircraft, but fishing. And the list of features pushed for post 1.0 just keeps getting longer. Beta was 'just around the corner' in August 2017. Yes, I feel like I was lied to. We've been hearing that 'expect a shower of features any time now' line for over a year.
  16. Writing notes on paper and the in-game map is one of the features I was most worried to see go. I find tens of other people's bases and more often than not, I don't take anything as they have nothing I don't already have or can easily loot. So I leave the bases alone, either for the time when I'm in more dire straits or they get better heli loot. And I would love so much to leave a note to the tune that I found your base, didn't take anything, maybe you want to trade/cooperate, etc. Sometimes I would even leave people small 'gifts' like wolf steaks, but never bothered to come back and check. And notes could communicate so much more than you can do with random items (once I wrote 'HI' in mil tent inventory, with several steaks). I would also like notes on the map (this feature used to be there, but was useless without persistence). You could leave somebody a map leading them to a rendez vous point, or alternatively, put some BS red-herring annotations to send your killer to a wild-goose chase. There are so many options. :) Pity that this feature is not higher in priority, looks like a simple one.

I like to think that when Dayz hardcore fans eat out and don't get their food served, they don't just leave an angry 1-star Yelp review. Instead, they ask the staff and find out that the oven was down, and then proceed to enrol to a 3-year weekend course in heating device installation and HVAC maintenance. And all that time, they seem bewildered at those 1-star reviews. "You're mad just because they don't serve any food?? Do you even have a degree in metalwork and catering?? Do you even work at that restaurant??" etc. etc. And look, the OP is off by 1 year, hur hur. That surely means we can dismiss everything he said.

I agree such threads are legit, and I agree that there are too many of them, too. But the onus is on the devs here. Can we make some sort of a road map, not to the BETA of course, but to any type of content worth discussing in a factual manner? Because without it, this forum is starting to look more and more like a board for teenage girls with anorexia, with each member constantly yelling and hissing at each other over which one is totally the worst fat bitch. No no, don't give me base building or advanced animal tracking system - hold your horses there, it's done when it's done. Just throw me a bone, start with something small (fish traps?). I check up this forum every now and then for new content, and again and again I find myself on a "Lord of the Flies' island.
  19. Kirov (DayZ)

This has been said a million times already but still

In real life, it takes several weeks (let's say 4) to heal a broken limb. In DayZ, it's one second with either splint or morphine. So the limb healing rate is accelerated some 2,419,000 times. Please don't give the devs any ideas to do the same with hunger, ok? Trust me, the acceleration of various processes greatly favours the player.
  20. Relax, I wasn't targeting you or even the Exile system. In fact, I can understand how many people can find it enjoyable. I'm just pointing out that it's not gonna be easy to find working game mechanics which are not glaringly arbitrary. I don't know how the blueprints will work, I hope they will at least alleviate the problem of gravity-defying structures. Look, I like base building as much as the next guy, but DayZ has always been to me the most immersive game ever and I'd like to keep it that way. If you know any mechanics which don't scream 'it's just a game!', I'm all ears.
  21. My take is, vanilla DayZ should have only non-immersion-breaking base-building, and let the modders do whatever they want. I'm gonna stick with servers striving for 'authenticity', that's for sure.
  22. Hahaha, you write like a teenager humped a keyboard because you're too 'hip' to follow grammar rules? Hahahahahaha, oh you sweet, sweet child. You made my day, thanks!
  23. I've played some Arma 3 Exile recently and I must say that base building is, and must be by definition, hilariously immersion-breaking. There are two things here: 1) base elements need to fit into your inventory or containers in order to be used properly, so for example you can go to a crafting workstation with some planks and come back with three wooden walls in your 'pockets'. In Exile, a huge base element usually takes less inventory space than a big gun. I completely lost it when a friend of mine told me 'dude, I had a hangar in my safe but I think I dropped it somewhere'. This kind of ridiculous statement just doesn't belong to DayZ. And yes, I understand that the 'authentic' alternative (that it takes a truck to carry a wall) is dull and tedious. 2) base raiding is either 'authentic' (= 'too easy') or based on in-your-face-arbitrary rules. I had a lot of fun in Exile, exploring, crafting and shooting, but whenever I found someone's base, it was like a big message saying 'hey, this is just a game, we don't even pretend that we pretend it's reality'. A part of what I obviously mean is, wooden walls which are completely impervious to tank shells, but it goes beyond that (like unrealistic physics for base layout, basically without gravity). Base building is a game within a game, and with a set of arbitrary rules on par with Minesweeper. I understand that certain limitations enforce arbitrariness (e.g. people need unrealistic safeguards for their bases because they just can't be there all the time), but that's precisely my point - base building has to look stupid if it's supposed to work. Expect sentences like "oh, a wooden base! Hmm, we have a big truck and several RPGs and grenades. If only we had something to put a dent on that wood..." or "dude, can I store this concrete 3-floor tower in your barrell?". I believe I'll give a wide berth to servers with complex base building mechanics, as my idea for storage is a network of well-hidden stashes throughout the entire Chernarus. But of course, I'm quite sure that most players will choose the Exile style of base building and we'll soon have craftable airport towers in some mods. And yes, thermal scanners and CCTV don't belong in a world where most sophisticated devices are walkie-talkies. Again, I'm sure that mods will anyhow bring us UAVs and camera-equipped bullets.
  24. I must say I'm impressed. This post of yours is coherent and properly follows all the rules. Your capitalization is correct and you don't embolden, underline, itallicize or capitalize random words. Maybe you missed a coma or two, but all in all you get your punctuation right and you end your sentences with one period only. What's far more important, you didn't use even one <> bracket, as if you understood that these have no place in regular conversations. Moreover, your writing is clear and easy to follow. The sentences are linked to each other in a logical, linear way, and I didn't scratch my head or squint even once. None of your statements are overly pretentious or far-fetched hyperboles or otherwise hilariously out of place. So far, I've thought that you're simply unable to communicate properly in written language, either due to a learning disorder or the fact that you're 16 and are going through an <<<X-tremly! REBELIUZ*!!* FaaaZe!!!>>>. But now I'm sure that the power of writing is in your heart. I think it's your first post like that, but I sure hope it's not the last. Keep it up!
  25. Kirov (DayZ)

    I know, but be patient.

If you haven't seen the list of features pushed post-beta/post-release, you're not gonna like it.
