Guys, you know you're helping a guy who swears to quit hacking only because it's 'too expensive'? He'll be duping the first ammo box he finds.

99 out of 100 cases on this forum, people don't complain because a given feature bothers them as 'unrealistic'. It bothers them because it's detrimental to their preferred gameplay, which almost always means that they'd rather shoot than take care of food, health, etc. It works like this: a feature that's unrealistic and bothersome (FOOD) - 'real life doesn't work like that, what were they thinking, stupid devs?!' a feature that's unrealistic and very useful (rifles fitting in your pants) - 'hey, it's just a game, let's not make it work like real life, I just want to have fun'.

General direction and bitter thoughts
Kirov (DayZ) replied to kacper46's topic in General Discussion
This, and time ten. I disagree 100% with almost each sentence of the OP and I just don't understand the nerve you have. They have already dumbed down Dayz for folks exactly like you (let's call you 'a guy with simpler expectations' for the sake of a polite argument). If they give you auto sort inventory, you (or someone like you) would come and demand manual transmission. And then the hunger meter to be removed. This race to the bottom must stop somewhere. As everywhere else said, but I feel I need to add to that: you're just confused and playing the wrong game all along. There are so many titles created especially for you, many of them AAA. -
I regret buying Livonia... Read plz
Kirov (DayZ) replied to KajMak64Bit2's topic in General Discussion
You might want to consider what kind of impression you make. I'm not saying you have to do this or that, I'm just pointing out that you should be aware how you are perceived. For starters, your overuse of ellipses (that's those three dots... you use instead of a period) make you look like you discovered the Internet yesterday, so you sound like you're either 13 or that uncle everyone has. Do what you want, just understand the effects. You're allowed to behave in a childish way, but if you start clickbait topics like this one, you should be prepared that many people, me including, will roll their eyes. You can't have your cake and eat it too, i.e. you can't behave in a 'silly prankster' mode and then demand a kind of respect given to someone more mature. It's one way or another. One more piece of advice - it's useful to contribute something meaningful, at least every now and then. A well-thought-out insight, a piece of game mechanics you discovered, something like that. This is not exactly a Yahoo chat room for people bored at work. -
When I joined DayZ, I always assumed that water in found bottles and canteens is unsafe, in the sense of literally 'coming from un unknown source, you never know what's there'. I always took a precaution to bring the container to a well, for like a year or something. I'm not saying I have an argument for that, just stating my initial intuitions. I guess 100% of infection is as unintuitive as 0%, at least for me.

I believe that the OP had a different point to make (that on servers without any rules, KoS still shouldn't be the default).
-
Good luck with that! KOS is one of the worst impairments to an interesting gameplay in DayZ, definitely worse than all the bugs combined. I recommend checking out various servers, HC with night seems to involve less KOS. Also, DUG servers limit ammo spawns a lot, this definitely affects players' behaviour. Keep it up, hope to see you around in Chernarus!

When I first heard about a paid map, I thought 'like hell you're gonna get my money'. But now I'm a buyer. I like the new content and I'm defo interested in the new map.
-
On the one hand, I remember dying of thirst in a pouring rain and it sure seemed frustrating and silly (i.e. immersion-breaking). On the other hand, the difficulty level should be maintained, at least in my humble opinion. To put it differently - in a thunderstorm, people should have problems other than water to worry about. For example, wood should get wet and be unusable without many attempts, or something like that.

Should we expect a wipe across Chernarus with 1.06?

How do you handle other survivors?
Kirov (DayZ) replied to CottonHill2's topic in New Player Discussion
There are many friendlies out there, don't give up. KOSers are a big group and by the nature of their condition, they believe and they will tell you that they're the only ones. That's simply not true, you just need more experience in judging behaviour. There's no one specific protocol for approaching players and your awareness will only grow with time. If I can recommend something, give a try to 1-person perspective, it attracts more mature players. Servers with nighttime or stuff like 'no crosshair' also tend to come with more interesting interactions. If you're fed up with losing progress or KOS bores you, there are also servers with strict anti-KOS or anti-PVP policies. I'm not fond of them as I like the threat level on 'open' Chernarus, but it's a matter of taste. Sometimes it's a very fresh change to cruise around the map knowing you won't be shot at. Play more, don't be afraid to engage other players but watch them closely, try various servers. Let us know how it goes. -
How do you enter a camping tent that has its opening facing wall?
Kirov (DayZ) replied to saltmcgault's topic in New Player Discussion
In theory, can you possibly be teleported inside a tent/base, or does this anti-hop feature come with some safeguards? I'd have no idea as I almost never touch public servers. -
BTW, I like that you're here and I appreciate how you talk to us and communicate our output to the devs. Despite all that happened, I strongly believe that we need better communication with the devs and this community is not without fault for all the bad blood between our groups. I hope that after the Great Troubles of December 2018 we can mend fences and that our community can continue to co-create the end shape of DayZ. So thanks and keep it up! 🙂

This and twice. if you hate the fact that an axe destroys wood (like it was designed for that or something, pff) or if you simply can't be bothered to hide your shit in a good place, please go to modded servers. Wood is not vibranium.
-
I wonder if that wasn't a feature we all mistook for a bug. I have a vague impression the darkness was somehow related to the night and I have one distinct memory of it going away when near either a light source or dawn. It would make sense not to see colours at night, wouldn't it? But it occurred to me only after the free weekend. Anyhow, I loved the harsh experience and please don't wussify it. Less deadly rain could be compensated e.g. with tougher zeds (although their numbers were impressive).
-
Didn't want to start a new topic, so... Any ideas as to bear spawns? I'm finally ready to hunt and anything more specific than 'the South' would come in very handy. Also, should I expect wolves down there? Chernarus is, hands-down, the best map I've ever encountered in any game, but so far I love the experience in Livonia. I love the harsh environment and any new assets I find (like closeable ovens in ruined houses) make me very excited. I hope so much that one way or another, the devs will keep the difficulty level up. This one goes to 11! Big thumbs up, I think I'm a buyer.
-
Within like 10 hours, I haven''t found a single one and I did give a longer try to hiking trails. I think your best chance for knives is normal looting, they're rare but they're there.
-
I’ve had the same (got KOSed once, met 20 friendlies) and I believe this is directly proportional to the PVE challenge. Common wisdom would say that in harsh environment, people would vie for resources (‘this guy might have food on him’), but it turns out it’s rather the opposite – ‘this guy is surely as hungry as I am and not likely to carry uneaten food on him, so I might as well come up and talk, maybe he has a rope for a fishing rod’ (an actual request I was met with). If we ever get a map which justifies such harsh settings (Siberia?), I'd fork out a nice handful of bucks and never complain again.
-
On the one hand, I understand that rain effects seem way too off (like it was liquid nitrogen or something), but on the other - I'm loving the difficulty level of PVE so much! I love bringing my toon back from the brink of death (health indicator blinking for a while), just in time to find a well. Or when I don't have a knife and I'm one bark away from making a campfire, then somebody shows up, we kill a pig and roast it. Just today my health was blinking two times and with a bit of luck (and good knowledge of mechanics) I'm currently warm and well-fed, ready to explore more. I agree that people shouldn't die after 3 minutes of rain, but... maybe we survivors have barely eked out for a long time? What if out 'full health' status is actually quite low in objective terms, like for a person stranded on a desert island for a long time, without access to health care and proper nutrients? Anyhow, I hope the devs tinker with settings but leave the difficulty, one way or another! Many people here interpret 'survival' as 'surviving PVP fights'. My approach is more 'staving off death from hunger, thirst and cold'. And Livonia sure delivers! 'Just barely not dying' is my favourite story in DayZ. Too bad Chernarus is currently a soft fantasy world with no actual PVE challenge.

NEW DAYZ LIVONIA GAMEPLAY AND NEWS
Kirov (DayZ) replied to KajMak64Bit2's topic in General Discussion
Can someone tell me how the new DLC's gonna affect Chernarus? Will we see any new assets? I'm thinking mainly about the bear and I can't figure out which scenario to expect: 1) bears only in Livonia, 2) bears in Livonia and Chernarus, but only for DLC buyers, 3) bears come to Chernarus for everyone once Livonia hits the shelves. So which one is it? -
Damn, I thought the picture says 187. I definitely hit 188, but it was seconds before I died. Anyhow, it's a fun challenge and I'm gonna try it again. 😉
-
You don't have to believe me, that I did hit that 188 km/h mark (right before I died on that fence to the right). https://ibb.co/C0cv6KS It's a very good performance, but can be beaten and I'll try it again when I get my bearings and find a car. 😉
-
Could we knock it off with the 'BI broke all the promises but it's ok because DayZ still comes cheap if you played thousands of hours' argument? It sounds like a Stockholm syndrome. Also, can anyone give me a good reason why this map comes with bears and we still can't get them in Chernarus? I've been waiting for this since 2015. And I'm not buying Livonia simply because I play Chernarus, not DayZ, and I'm not planning to move out (unless I hear very positive reviews, which I somehow doubt).

Make Dayz Great Again! PLEASE! (English translated at the end)
Kirov (DayZ) replied to ZinMas 101's topic in General Discussion
I surely don't want to interrupt your sparring session, guys, but I'm legitimately curious about your statement here. Why do you think that DayZ cannot be tweaked to elicit specific desired behaviours (precisely like it is tweaked right now to make us behave in certain ways)? Maybe I'm wrong or I don't read you right, but you seem to use the word 'sandbox' like 'reality', when in fact it's everything but. It's a carefully created maze which makes us go certain ways and jump certain loops. There's not a single element that is 'objective' there and thus can't be modified (yeah I know you know that, I'm just curious why you phrased your opinion like you think there are any inherent 'natural' limitations here, because I really don't see any). Let's work with this from the other end and reduce the situation ad absurdum a bit. Imagine a Dayz with 95% loot cut (and say, with more crafting options and other features). How this situation isn't PVE challenging? Yes, you got a friend of yours - so you still have one rusty handgun and three damaged bullets between you two. How does that help in a deer hunt? And now you have to feed two people - imagine sharing that apple you found. And bandages, because you just can't find a tincture to disinfect rags. And you have to kill more cows to get that sweet leather clothing, as there's only 1 high-cap and 2 assault vests per server. And to fix a car, you have to find tools in an area which is just lousy with tougher zeds/predators/contamination (I remind you, you share one pistol, oh and one of you found a Hazmat hood, so only the other is coughing blood - the one who doesn't have infection from dirty rags, because you used up the bandages two towns ago and now you're both using your pants to stop bleeding). So how is that NOT hard? You know, the 'gritty survival' thing that was promised to the buyers of this product? -
How many gulps and other such info (1.05)
Kirov (DayZ) replied to csssbx's topic in General Discussion
Nothing works, tried (almost) all possible options. Also tried to fiddle with pot temperature, but it seems it never goes down (I left pots in containers for days and once they hit ~200 C, they seemingly can't cool down). I'm inclined to believe that drying is not implemented and the wiki is simply outdated (the Trivia entry on the Cooking page has a 0.61 reference). Do you have any idea how I can verify or whom to reach to confirm it (Tatanko)? I like to have access to all kinds of food processing available. Another trivia - you can boil that dried fruit you find (it simply gets boiled), but not bake it (it gets burnt). Spoiled food cannot be processed in any way.
