I find 0.58 extremely boring, too, but not for the reasons you give. The PvE aspect is ridiculously easy and/or broken, civilian loot is extremely easy to get. And on the top of that, people are starting to disappear from the private servers I play. Where used to be at least 20+ players, now 7 is a lot. 0.58 is definitely driving people away. But the main beef I have is with sentences like that: Then you made a mistake. I don't know why the sandbox aspect fools so many players, but DayZ has been always marketed as "postapo survival", the PvP element (at least in this amount) is there mainly because it's WIP. When you buy a horror game, do you complain it's too scary? Would "Civilization 5" be great if not for that "civilization management" thing? Do you see anyone at CoD boards complaining that there's no fishing? It's nice that some people bought DayZ as FPS shooter, it puts bread on the table at BI, but the truth is, they promised a completely different game and the only way to increase the survival difficulty that I see is to cut down the exact elements which make PvPing easy (abundant food/weapons, etc.), so I'm afraid they will have some bad news for you in the future. Fortunately, there are so many other games that fit your style! Let us enjoy this one little zed apo game as it is meant to be.

I can't find the ones I mentioned (i.e. one roadsign just used twice at the same junction in different places), although I'm sure I've seen at least 3 of them. Somewhere off the coast, that's for sure. But looking for them, I found quite a few of signs just plain wrong and it turns the rule of thumb is apparently DON'T trust the roadsigns. At least when you're new to the game. This one is just between Cherno and Elektro, where the railroad intersects with the road (073 120). I'm facing Cherno (W), Elektro is to the left and behind me (E), not to the right: This one is just South of Mogilevka, at 075 107. I'm facing South. In reality, Pusta is to my left and Cherno to my right: Just a little farther North, still Mogilevka, 075 103. I'm facing West and in fact, Cherno is to my left: And this is further North, at the junction between Gorka, Polana and Dubrovka, 103 064. I'm facing South (Polana) and Gorka, of course, is to my right: I think it's half of the junctions I ran across today and I know at least several more are screwed. I wonder if the devs are even aware of the screw-up. ;)

1) Many people point out that medical system is broken, but Morphine especially kills it for me. I call it "Potion of Limb Restoration" because that's precisely what it is. We've got a magical item in Chernarus. 2) I understand arguments about 1pp, but I think the 3pp camera is super anti-immersive and that's why I almost always play on 1pp servers. So you tell me we've got invisible helmets with very long tactical mirrors protruding from each side...? No. 3) Evading bullets via running and zig-zagging - one of the reasons I was disheartened about PvP, people avoid being shot in a manner unthinkable in RL. Why for crying out loud is "erratically dance to your safety" an option? 4) This is a small thing, but the night sky is really off. The stars are correctly placed but their relative brightness is completely wrong. It takes me 3 seconds tops IRL to find Ursa Major but a minute or so in Dayz. Also, there is no Milky Way. Also, there are no planets. Also, without light polution, the number of stars should be much more staggering. Also, the stars shouldn't become circles when zoomed in. Re: map. I use the in-game map a lot in order not to break immersion. The only flaw of the map (immersion wise) is that it's too precise. Real maps are often outdated after a few years, old roads disappear, forests get cut, etc. All in all, I find Dayz a very immersive game, although many features need overhaul. I can only hope this will get better over time. And yeah, the crosshair should go, too. Absolutely no HUD on the main screen. -
PS: Roadsigns do lie, some of the blue ones are mixed up and reversed. At certain junctions, they used the same roadsign at different spots (so one sign says that Mogilevka is to the left and another that to the right).

1) The topic is here since 30 Aug and you still fail to notice that the NWAF is not NE of Stary Sobor. Even the best compass in the world wouldn't take you the way you expected. 2) I'm quite positive the compass has been fixed and works fine 100% of the time, regardless of condition. I relied on it heavily in 0.58 and before. 3) The map is never upside down. 4) Pilgrim was in fact being serious so you can safely read past the first sentence, it's gonna be of great help to you. 5) Seriously, you come post a thread and don't even bother to check where the NWAF is in relation to Stary, come on dude: http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus#4.056.069 Here, you're welcome.

Don't put me in the same bag as whiners, usually I'm the first one to say "calm down, it's still alpha". And when I say 'promise', I was referring to the roadmap 2015. Call me old-fashioned, but I seriously considered it some kind of 'schedule'. Or 'commitment'. From here it's not that far from 'promise'. Long story short, I read about animal predators in Q3 and I actually thought 'cool, there's gonna be animal predators in Q3'. Since there is none, we've got a delay. Now, it is my personal choice whether to fume about it or not, and although usually I don't such a thing, this time I did since I've been checking this board for quite long, hoping to see any news on 0.59 coming stable. Dunno, maybe I've just got too much time on my hands since right now there is absolutely nothing to do in Chernarus for me. I know that there are hundreds of dipshits who failed to read with comprehension the 'I understand' message, but that doesn't mean that any remark about pacing is childish whining, especially when said pacing was kinda set out by the devs themselves. All right, all right, this is my last... well I wouldn't call it a 'rant', but I'm going to shut up anyway and just wait for some new content. People just need to vent sometimes... )

Well, I do. You sure can be fine with delays, but you can't seriously express surprise that someone is not, can you? Most people consider delays an issue. I wanted to hunt animal predators in Q3, becuse I was promised just that. More than that, I was hoping for beta somewhere early 2016 if not January. Scratch that, actually I just wanted survivalists to have something to do by now. I don't expect it anymore, but some honesty and transparency would be welcome.

Word. I really, really understand that it's alpha and never frothed about the glitches, but the truth is: 1) devs' own deadlines are not kept and by a wide margin to that. As much as I get that programming is hard, it's Q4 2015 already, guys. We're supposed to be pushing to beta soon. How close is 0.58 to beta? I'm no engineer, but I guess not much. 2) unless I want to play 'loot-die-repeat', which I don't, there is absolutely no reason for me to launch DayZ now. What I love is exploring new content and there wasn't that much of that in the past half a year. I understand that everyone is excited about vehicles and helis, but what I've been waiting for the freakin' bear since February/March and still didn't get it. By December I should be thrilling about befriending animal companions. Now I can only hope they'll get fixed animal wandering by then. Base building? Please. Just tell us we've got a half-year delay, guys. With at least some apologies it'll be easier to digest. "Sorry guys, it turned out to be much more work than we expected, now we're hoping to give you beta in mid 2016." Here, just sign it and we're more or less good, I mean I'm not going to other survival games anyway, I love Chernarus too much.

Usually I'm not one of those impatient lads, but I can't help but notice that 1) 0.58 hit experimental 3,5 months ago and 0.59 is yet to be announced, 2) we are seriously behind the roadmap for 2015: http://www.dayztv.com/standalone/dayz-2015-roadmap/ Now, I understand it's alpha, programming is difficult, blah blah, but can someone tell me what the devs think about commitments they themselves took on? I really want to know what's going on these days; sorry I don't follow all the topics about that but I've been expecting some news on 0.59 for more than a month now. And then I took a look at that roadmap and realized that we were supposed to get air transport two weeks ago... Anyone?

Some time ago I drank something from a canteen I found (maybe gas?) and got super sick, dark-red one (like when you're starving), then 'I just soiled myself' messages kicked in every now and then. I strove hard to keep the toon alive and after some puking and greying I was fine ('pumpkin is the best medicine'). However, the soiling message (without any actual effects) stayed with me for many hours (I couldn't find antibiotics in numerous hospitals). At first I thought that's an admin joke, but I asked a friend of mine to join that server and he wasn't crapping himself so I guess I was sick for real. After a long time (the 'sick' status coming on and off) I stopped soiling myself but moved to orange 'sick' and started to see 'I feel exhausted' messages. This toon had to endure this for many hours, way way longer that either poisoning, so I started to doubt if it's not a bug (as I had no side effects apart from the status and messages). From what you say, I believe there are indeed more diseases implemented - up until now I'd never either 'soiled myself' or had any 'bowel rumbling'. What can I say, Mookie? I hope you get better, live longer and prosper. ;) Two pieces of misinformation I think I see here: 1) vomiting is never good for you and contrary to widespread belief, inducing vomiting doesn't help with anything. There is a yt video about that. 2) 'Healthy' and 'sick' statuses have nothing to do with each other, they can co-exist perfectly no matter how it looks like. 'Health' refers to HP, 'sick' to diseases. I'm quite sure taking shoes off does nothing to cholera bacteria. One question: - is the info with the syring and atibiotics vial confirmed? I remember that both did nothing for a long time and then I didn't see anything about it in change logs. Can someone confirm?

Two questions here: 1) How long do you have to wait for mackerel to get trapped? Is it a minute or two like with sardines or several dozens like with the rabbit snare? 2) Are those random boats bound to spawn netting? I found to get mackerel and found several boats today with no netting. Does it automatilly mean they've been looted for it?

I like your ideas, guys, but what is actually the dev's idea for base building an the like? I think the other day I read that they don't want the base building to be developed and only rudimentary stuff will make it. Maybe I got something wrong. Does anyone know something?

I found it here: http://www.dayztv.com/dev/timeline/ Still, the main reason I don't look into official communications is that they say far from enough. It's like with change logs, painfully minimalistic in my opinion. Do you know that they fixed 'cannabis buds cooking states'? I have no idea what this means. I'd also love to read more about planned base building and all I found out is it's gonna be there in Q4. CLE and persistence also call for some more detailed explanations, IMHO. -
Aaand, the hotfix wipe erased both mine and his camp, depriving me of the chance for the contact. The timing could not be worse.

Tatanko, any tips for 0.58? For me it's nightmare, although maybe it's because I stick to one private server which seems to be poor... Anyway, so far in this build I found only a herd of cows near Severograd. Absolutely no sighting of any wild game at all! I do my best to look around with a hunting scope so I can scout very distant hills and forests, not a glimpse of antlers. 0.57 was tough but not nearly as much as 0.58. I checked many ponds and streams, including that pool at Sosnovka, nothing.

Thanks a lot for that tip! I decided to clean my messy camp. I dumped all the containers somewhere else, all empty (I used to cherish everything that gave extra slots, like cases and pots on stoves). Sometimes it worked perfectly, otherwise not so much, I'm not sure why. We'll see if it helps in the long run. As for that barrel guy - thanks for encouragement, I just figured that an interesting RP adventure is worth more than an extra barrel. Maybe it's because I'm lonely, usually I tend to avoid other players as I'm super reluctant to shoot unprovoked, and when provoked it's often too late (i.e. the other guy gets to draw first). So I just try to keep an eye out there and hone my "see and not be seen" skills. Anyhow, the pumpkin slices I left near his barrel (which had been full) are gone, but my message and the barrel itself are there, so I figure the food just despawned. Very weird, today I found a worm I dug out 4 days ago (!) when making a plot. Well, I'll pop in tomorrow or later and see what happened to the guy. I really hope he'll do more than just vanish straight away. Sometimes it puzzles me how persistence works. Today I was looking for a vehicle and it was more a wild goose chase than your average heli hunt. On a private server I checked 40+ spawn points as per dayzdb, all to no avail. And here I thought that with plugs and batteries necessary, most cars will be left untouched.

Started playing after some break and have certain questions for you, guys: 1) First thing first - after drinking gasoline by accident, I got sick and then got over, however I was getting the "I've got cramps in my stomach" messages for many many hours after. Then, I got dark-red 'sick' and a message 'I just soiled myself', which keeps repeating. I read somewhere that this is a prank of the server admin, but I used to play on that server (private) for a long time and nothing like that happened before. So, if I may ask - did anyone shit himself yet in 0.58? 2) Can you put steaks on a stick and grill it over fire? I don't seem able to do that. 3) Do I have to pack and move my barrel and tent to prolong their life, persistence-wise, or will simple 'handling' like putting stuff in do? 4) Where do you look for animals? I checked such surefire places like Bere and Msta and not a single cow there. I only managed to catch a rabbit. 5) Does anyone know exactly what kind of dyes do we have? So far I gather it is berries, bark (didn't work for me) and nails(?). 6) I love the new rare loot, but the stuff I'd like to find at last is: antibiotics, car plugs, map. Any luck finding them, guys? 7) My face started to melt when I removed a cooking pot from the fireplace in order to eat its content. Even a few steps back didn't help, I really had to run out of the house, but not before losing much blood. What's going on with cooking? 8) On a related note, I can't put pots and pan on a gas stove anymore, not within my backpack anyway. I can do that on the ground, but then cannot pack them up. "I just soiled myself" message at that server is legit, I asked a friend of mine to join and he doesn't receive any such info or any other 'jokes'. So maybe we've got ourselves another disease or something. Sometimes I see dark-red 'sick', sometimes I don't, I don't seem to lose blood but we'll only know for sure once I get to eat some antibiotics (they're simply not there). Mookie, it's ok, I found the other guy's camp. Now, I'm wondering what actually constitutes a camp. If I have a barrel under one tree and a few backpacks under another one nearby, is it one camp, two camps, or maybe as many as containers? -
After much thinking I decided to go for maximum RP potential. I left him some gift food along with a note saying that we can meet and help each other. If he decides to leave me a message, we can talk next week. Of course, he probably already guesses that I'm the guy who robbed him before so quite likely I'm asking for a bullet, but I 'm very curious about how it goes. Getting an ally through such a manner would be a great story to tell later. I'll keep you informed. So far, this camp desync is a horrible issue but things are going in a great direction. Persistence changes the game a lot and mainly for the better. Good work there, devs!

ENO75, you look like a guy who could help with a moral quandary. What do you think about robbing other people's camps? I never shoot first at people and avoid any risky contacts, but with camps I'm usually like 'man, you should've hidden it better'. But there's this story... So I play on a private HC server. At a shed I find someone's barrel with stuff in it, not thinking twice I take the most juicy things to my backpack, barrel in my hands and I run, setting a camp not that far away (i.e. less than a kilometer but still in the woods so hidden enough). After a day I notice a huge desync, like every action click is delayed by 20+ seconds. Remembering the wobo video (30 tips for 0.58), I know that somebody else's camp is within 1km. I figure out it's the same guy. I go back to the place I robbed and what would you say? There is a guy inside the shed, weapon drawn. Immediately I run away (I don't want to fight and I guess he'll figure out who the robber is). He shouts something over the mic, but I don't want to go back (one bullet in my repeater, I focused more on leather cloth stuff than weapons). I log out in a safe area. A few days later (desync is still huge at my camp) I decide to go back. This time I find nothing, but just when I want to withdraw, by complete dumb luck I notice a very well hidden barrel under an evergreen tree. Like, it is really almost invisible, the guy (must be the same) is super unlucky that I found it. And here is when my conundrum starts - what should I do? I left the second barrel intact for now. I have two options - steal the barrel or leave the guy a note, telling him to beat it. Advantages of thievery - I get another barrel, I dismantle the camp which desyncs my first camp. Disadvantages - I feel genuinely sorry for the guy who gets his second barrel stolen and I don't want him to set up yet another camp in this area, oblivious to what is going on. A friend of mine at the same server has a pen so I can leave a message to the barrel guy. I really want to show him some good will, on the other hand - I already robbed him once so happy with meeting me he may not be. I'd love to take his second barrel, but really what I want the most is him moving his camp away so I have peace and quiet at mine. I'd like to have a chat with him, but I'm afraid the charm of the first impression is not on my side (I have coloured leather clothes on me so he'll know I used a barrel and probably his to boot). What do you think? Oh, and stay classy, ENO, I've always liked your approach to the game. :thumbsup: :) Pity you don't play on EU servers.

I set up a base and it got super laggy after a while, then I watched wobo and realized that somebody else has a camp within 1km radius. Does anyone know if there is a way to find it using lagging as hint? I mean, is the lag related to distance or something? -
Spot on, with the additonal caveat that 'pretending' not to look for it never works :D. You must actively and honestly clear your mind of any intentions to use it. Only then dayz transcendence can be achieved. Another Murphy's Law in dayz - for me, it's always either weapons or magazines, either batteries or plugs, either helmets or visors, etc.
