What is your honest opinion on the future of DayZ
Kirov (DayZ) replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
I must say I’m confused like hell, too. It was stated many times that the devs want the game to be survival-oriented and actually hard, with scarce loot and so on. I remember reading that eventually, a can of food is going to be treasure to be cherished. But 2015 was very disappointing in this department. Not only loot is abundant as always, the survival elements seem always to give way to new guns etc. It’s not only the pace but also the focus which is upsetting me. I love the addition of vehicles, fixing and using them feels like finally there is “something to do” across Chernarus and they’re actually useful (as opposed for example to heli hunts, which yield slightly better collector’s stuff for a great amount of effort). But this happens at the cost of the above-mentioned medical system, new animals, weather, etc. They declare some goal but then shape the entire game in another direction and end up with a completely different customer base, which only further pushes for PvP elements. It’s a vicious circle, really. I remember one of the previous builds where loot was so scarce that all those poor kiddie “snipers” kept dying of hunger in droves… It was super funny to watch them complain and I don’t get it why we had to roll back. I understand we’re supposed to playtest here, but I can’t think of any good reason why canned food is not cut down ten times in volume, right here right now. This one little thing could make the game completely different. And as for the helicopter - I love the idea and I'm looking forward to give it a shot, it's just I feel it should be literally the last thing to be added to the game. Bottom line is, as much I like DayZ, it is as much of a "zombie survival" game as Farmville. I believe the devs kinda lost the big picture here. -
I have this impression that night on public servers is shunned and many people log out for nights at private ones. And when they don't, god knows how many just tune their gamma to have the night feel like a B&W day. I'm afraid your idea would be cherished by like ten players out there. But I'd like to see more horror elements in Chernarus, so thumbs up.

Good work with that channel. I would probably also add a discussion and display of in-door fireplaces and gas stoves (super useful for a quick bite, especially if you restrict yourself to eat only what you hunt/fish/farm/pick). New players should know about this option (yeah I know you mention house ovens). But it's just me. You know, back in the mid-0.40 builds I think I myself knew virtually all there was to the outdoorsman style, including minute details - I was literally counting apple pick attempts, how many trees you can chop with one axe (back before kindlings),timing cooking and wood consumption, etc. I gave up when I realized how much of it is going to be gone or changed, but we can get back to it once we're close to the final release, with the likes of Tatanko and others. Good hunting!

Thanks, guys. It seems that the furnace is there, it's just I tried to mine from that big rock structures, not the smaller rocks as I should. Thanks for the info and the video, I didn't know about the 5-stone circular fireplace. And that meat in cooking pots won't burn (I remember it wasn't the case). Good job. One more thing - can you add frying pans to furnaces and tripods? I remember you could just when they introduced them, the pan was just placed vertical there. Another question - does the game spawn above the Northern Highway at last? I understand that animals roam now, but I yesterday I shot deer as far up as 034 001, right next to Grozovoy Pas. What gives? While we're on it - rabbit snares do work up North, right?

Finding a vehicle in DAYZ is so hard.... (HOW HARD IS IT?}
Kirov (DayZ) replied to H4ppY C4mp3R's topic in New Player Discussion
You made me check some of my hidden cars. I've got a Volga and Lada parked next to each other for close to a week and their tires are pristine. Another Lada was taken this weekend or Monday at the latest and then left untouched and it's still there with pristine wheels. I forgot to check the batteries/plugs, but as you said, it doesn't matter anyway. Maybe it's the location of your cars? Maybe upon the server reversal to the North they get hit by obstacles? This happened to my truck, which I found horizontally impaled on a pine. -
OK, here is mine: what happened to the furnace? I remember when they introduced a major overhaul to fireplaces and you needed either the tripod or the furnace to cook. 8 small rocks added to a fireplace did the trick. However, I can't replicate that now and can't even mine big stones with pick-axes to see if big stones are still there (although they were non-stackable so they're probably useless for furnaces anyway). I guess lard is no longer necessary for cooking, right? It doesn't attach to that 'fireplace' line, above the proper content itself.

Hm, you sure about that? Is it something you read or observed yourself? Very interesting. -
I can only say that netting spawns for sure, the other day I found 3 pieces in a boat. But I'm not a boat hunter so I have no idea about the odds.

All right, got it. The server is: [DE]^^Saarland-Survival]^^{Active Admins}{High Loot}. It’s 3pp, with some night thrown in, varied pop, German. As in, a EU server, so you may see a lot of desync if you happen to live over the pond, DJ SGTHornet. I know I can’t play US servers, much as I’d like to. About that server, a lot of German people are quite friendly in DayZ and you don’t have to brace yourself for always-KOS there. Suffice it to say, I had a tense accidental encounter with some guy at another guy’s camp and not only we didn’t shoot each other, we also didn’t rob that other guy. That’s the kind of a server. Of course, your standard caution is necessary. Ahhh, that’s the problem. My predicament is a bit tougher than usual. In fact, I’ll perfectly understand if you consider it too much hassle. You see, I’m suffering from what I believe is the worst kind of condition currently in game: heavy cholera. If contracting it raises any eyebrows, just accept that it was a panicked misclick. We were goofing around with a friend of mine, I got de-blooded and by mistake didn’t purify the water in my pot. Some one hour before I logged out, the stage 4 kicked in. Currently, I’m going down from bright hydrated to blank in 3-4 minutes and I’m puking every 10-15 minutes. I have 3 cooking pots, 2 bottles and 1 canteen (8.75l in total) and I’m going through them in no time. Only this amount of containers allows me to even think about leaving a well for a moment. What’s worse, I’m losing blood like a pig in a slaughterhouse. I need several blood transfusions from someone compatible (I’m A+ so I can get transfusions from 0 and A). Barring that, saline kits would keep me alive, too. A friend of mine (A+) was helping me out with treatment and we found a lot of blood bags, but had an extremely bad luck with IV kits. The very least I need is 2-3 IV kits to go on. I would have to take them from you and quickly log out, I’m quite low on blood so not much time for chit-chat, I’m afraid. Then I’ll get my friend to top me up with his blood and this will give us time to hit health care centres in Vybor and Stary Sobor. However, in order to survive the entire stage 4 and stay logged in, I would need much more. 4-5 full blood bags would make me feel somewhat safe, depending on the length of this period. And I wouldn’t say no to some food with good calories/water-to-volume ratio. I’m on the border between dark and bright energized and each food item consumed also brings me this closer to puking. Peaches or something like that would be nice. I’m in two minds on rice and similar dry high-cal food – it’s guaranteed projectile vomiting on the one hand but maybe some calories will stay in me. I believe I have the tools for pumpkin farms, but I’m not sure. I’d still have to roast pumpkins to reduce their volume. Of course, first aid kits with bags and IV kits can be found in any kind of residential and industrial areas. Wobo says in his September film that the antibiotics don’t work, but it wouldn’t hurt to check if you happen to stumble upon some (I failed to see any in 0.59). If not, don’t bother. Currently, I’m inside the health care centre in Novaya Petrovka (034 021), so quite far from the coast. There is an Infected presence in the area and I can’t afford to deal with it. Basically, you can just follow the trail of vomit and watered bloody shit from the Novo hospital all the way through Severo to Petrovka. The entire building must stink to high heaven, so sorry for that. But I guess you’ve seen worse since all hell broke loose on the so-called Day Z… You can check my other posts to see that I’m “for real” and no funny stuff is coming your way. You can also deduce it from the fact that I intend to ride out the heavy cholera instead of respawning like any sane person would. For your effort, you can get the AKM from my back, with pristine Kashtan and 30rnd mag. I can provide more assistance, material or not, the longer I’m allowed to stay logged in. Bear in mind, this condition is extremely serious and doesn’t compare even to poisonings. A saline injection would probably give me 15 minutes of life, tops. I can’t leave the Petrovka centre now unless it’s to the pond nearby (I puked in it so watch out). Only back-to-back medical assistance and abundant food supply will allow me to stay alive for the next hour or two. So, like I said, it's understandable if you have better things to do. Originally I was just shooting for a slim hope that a good soul already playing on that server reads these boards. But of course any help is more than welcome. I've spent a lot of effort just trying to make it through stage 3 and I don't want to lose that poor chap to stage 4. Let me know what you think, Yazar8 and DJ SGTHornet. -

Where can I post if I need help at a specific private server? Here, just general General, Recruitment...? I'm in great need of medical assistance but don't want to spam for 99.9% of people who don't even play that server. -
Vehicles (and wheels) – spawn, despawn, persistence
Kirov (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
Hi gang, I’m trying to figure out a few things about the vehicles: 1) Do we know how many of them spawn each time, out of each kind if it works like that? 2) I believe that a vehicle which was not manipulated with in a given session, despawns and spawns somewhere else. Is it true? If so, how can we prevented a despawn for sure? Will putting a single random item in the trunk make it stay? 3) Apart from the above, what makes a vehicle despawn? I heard that a car ruined in an accident will despawn, but I saw a crashed Volga which was there for a couple of days. On the other hand, a Volga which I hopelessly drove onto a pile of timber despawned. However, a Lada stuck on a rock stayed there for some time. So what’s the rule for despawn due to damage? 4) For how long the vehicles are persistent? Is it 7 days? 5) I see that all the regular items despawn if manipulated, as usual under CLE. However, wheels persist. My question is: are they persistent like the vehicles/barrels? Or is there any other special rule? If I want a wheel to stay there, is it better to manipulate it or leave it be? Do jerry cans follow any similar special rules? 6) I hid a truck among some trees but upon a restart, the truck now faces North. It is not accessible (although the inventory is) and all the double pristine wheels are ruined. If I chop down the nearby trees and replace the wheels, will I retrieve my vehicle? Or is it lost forever and will despawn soon? Thanks guys and have fun cruisin’ around! -
I've yet to hunt in 0.59 but judging from what people report, it's already awesome and going to be better. Can't wait! Also, if you spotted deer north of Severograd, I believe it must've been chased there. Game never spawned north of the Northern Highway and nothing has changed in this department, from what I hear.
-
Yep, but I still miss the pristine wilderness of the North. I hope they stop after Tisy, which they probably won't. When we talk about 'safe' areas, it really just means 'areas super hard to reach so you'd better know what you're doing'. The concept of distant areas you have to machete your way to is really interesting. The rocks in the North already provide some relatively safe space for barrels, but I guess it's gonna be hard to call them home.

Vehicles (and wheels) – spawn, despawn, persistence
Kirov (DayZ) replied to Kirov (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the very useful info! -
I like your ideas, OP, I hope they all get read and implemented. I'm no hunter in RL but I love the outdoorsman style in Dayz. You made me hit the woods again, so far I've been focused on all things related to vehicles. Time to cross the Northern highway and go inland... You talk a lot about tracking and hunting, what about resources you get from animals? How would you see it progress with the lard, pelts, bones, etc.? I wonder how many more applications they have, I like the idea of being completely on your own and never having to rely on anything looted from towns. I hope the devs think more about food and cooking, so that a devoted hunter is so much better nourished than a guy who grabs an occasional can and immediately runs to the NWAF. And yes, I'm one of the players who might as well think to themselves "aww, sorry, baby elk, but I need to live", despite knowing it's it's just a game (probably this means I'm insane, but I like to pretend it's for reals when I play). It's quite obvious what you said and I hardly believe the topic got derailed so fast and for such a reason. I guess some people just really want to say something on the Internet.

Vehicles (and wheels) – spawn, despawn, persistence
Kirov (DayZ) replied to Kirov (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
One thing about the new UI - can you access the in-game map with it? I couldn't figure it out and if it's not possible, then I'm just saying 'no thanks'. As for the vehicles - I don't think the main beef is that they are worthless worthless. It's just they don't feel like vehicles (I'm talking about the general feel of authenticity, not hardcore realism). If your imaginary object experiences any kind of issues going uphill, then you can't seriously make me pretend to believe that's a motor vehicle. You don't see real drivers boast that they mastered the fourth gear. And I don't care how shitty roads in Chernarus are, they don't work like catapults. The point is not that you can get used to this piss-poor performance, the point is that you shouldn't have to. Which means, you can do like many players and just wait until the cars actually work. Yes, I share your love to vehicles and I got pretty decent at driving them as well, but they're still "overloaded shopping carts on an earthquake-struck ice rink", no matter how good you are with them. This happened to me just a week ago: I swear to God it was no accident, no crash, no mistake or glitch, nothing. I was just driving up that road to the left, in the first gear. And I was doing my best to continue just that. :D Apparently, there is a small black hole in Nagornoe. Yeah, I know it's alpha, I'm just pointing out that you recommended shooting cars with a bow. ;) I understand many people who don't have this kind of patience. -
While I agree that you don't normally see people in Pulkovo, I also agree with the OP that we lack decent wilderness area for (relatively) safe camps. I know some people believe their vehicle is safe if parked somewhere in Topolniki, but somehow this doesn't cut it for me. Remember that the map has just contracted more or less five times just by the sheer existence of cars. This will only continue with more reliable vehicles and eventually the chopper. And the North is only getting deforested, too (I hear Tisy is finally coming soon). I'd like to get some areas hard to access, or at the very least denser woods as suggested above. Yes, huge swaths of the map are unused but it's not like you can kick back and have a bonfire anywhere you want. Or leave your car. Barring additional space, it frustrates the hell out of me that we can't paint or put any kind of camo on our cars/tents/barrels. Right now I would welcome it more than further improvements to the driving performance.

Vehicles (and wheels) – spawn, despawn, persistence
Kirov (DayZ) replied to Kirov (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the info, S3V3N, although this sure is bad news. I myself totalled many cars due to the 4th gear or the mysteriously strong gravitational pull of hill slopes and it's a pity that such vehicles don't return to the pool. I may try to grenade them a bit. I'm not that sure about no damage to body. At first I thought the same, but then I found a Volga badly crashed by somebody else, I replaced the tires but couldn't start her. Granted, I think the battery and plug were ruined but I'm positive that in this patch, the condition of neither matters. So I guess it had something to do with the body. As for the trucks - I believe this is the vehicle claimed the least by players so you were just unlucky finding one. When I'm going to a vehicle hunt, I don't shy from even the most remote spawn points as these are places where you can fix a car in peace. However, once I saw a truck in Topolniki which just stood there for at least four days! People would try to fix it, but with damaged 2wheels it probably wouldn't even move. Eventually, I got around to find four pristine 2wheels and snatched it, only to lose it immediately to the North-direction bug. This reminds me - where do you find your car tents? One more funny thing - for dark green trucks, you can find places in the woods which look like literally planted by the devs in order to serve as some sort of a tree garage. Check it out: -
Private servers are no Narnia, but it's great that they attract people with a slightly different attitude, or at the very least, discourage the people with the attitude you despise. Sure I was shot at many a time on private servers, but at least not by gangs who geared up on their "public" servers they kick everyone else from. What I recommend is this: find a private server, 1pp, with day and night and don't change gamma at night. Just yesterday, after having reckless fun with vehicles on public, I did just that and found myself in a real semi-horror situation, crouching from a shed to shed in Svetlo, hiding from zeds and scavenging survival tools. If you add a special condition that you can't eat any pre-made food (only hunting/farming/fishing), then the shit suddenly gets real and you get a completely different game than what it usually is right now. And it gets you used to what this game will hopefully evolve into one day.
-
This reminds me, guys. What do you think about the most obvious storage place, i.e. wardrobes? I mean, how often do you actually come up to a seemingly empty wardrobe to check if there's a stash there? ;)
-
I agree with everything said above. Moreover, remember - you will never ever get 100% safety. There is always a chance some random explorer will wonder exactly into your sweet spot. I thought I had a super safe hideout in the middle of nowhere (in the South, far from the edges) but it's been robbed recently. But I can give away one funny spot for a quick barrel to place: there is that one just recently enterable tower, next to the Kamyshovo railway station, somewhere at 119 118 (it's not on the map as a loot point yet). A couple of days I noticed that it is surrounded by a wall. If you enter through the wall and go around the tower, you can put your barrel next to the tower, and 1) nobody has any reason to go there, 2) it's not visible with 3pp from any nearby point. Granted, it's not really a place for your camp, but if you find a barrel in Kamyshovo and want to stash your RAK looted from the nearby police station, it may just last for a couple of days. There is also this small town where I noticed a small passage between two houses. The passage is a dead end, but there is some room behind one of the houses, not visible from the street. I'm thinking about placing a barrel there. And sometimes I wonder if just for the hell of it I could put a blue barrel next to those 4-barrel blue packs serving as background. I wonder how many people wouldn't be any wiser. ;) Oh, I forgot a very nice thing - you can throw flat backpacks and weapons on the top of those long hill-like hay stacks next to many farm houses. The stash is next to invisible, sometimes even when you stand right on the top of it - you need the inventory tab to see it. Use improvised backpacks for optimum concealment. Weapons are literally invisible outside of the inventory screen, but they may despawn. Don't forget to memorize the location! As for vehicles, well, I'm currently looking for sweet spots myself. I found one, but we'll see how long it will last...

So I found 2 trucks very close to each other in Stary Yar and I poured a lot of manhours into finding a decent set of tires (anything less than that wouldn't work anyway). All the tires are now pristine except for one double wheel, which is worn. However, either truck, seen here, wouldn't even move (well, if you don't count spazzing). Truck 1: Truck 2: I tried taking the tires on and off, in fact I changed the entire set twice on each truck. I refuse to believe they can't start due to the terrain, even the bus on half-damaged wheels would at least move back on the road no problem. Yes, I know how to handle gears and neither the reserve nor first (nor the second, for good measure) does anything, regardless of what I do with the steering wheel. However, all the tires move as expected. Everything should really be great but all I get is shaking. I relogged several times for the problems to go away, to no avail. What do you think is wrong? Again, I know the trucks are very problematic right now, but I'm positive that the bus would work perfectly fine in these conditions even on worse tires. It's clearly not your standard problem with the poor maneuverability of trucks. And I patiently retried many times. Any ideas, guys?
-
What Whyherro123 said, but also - come again? Sprinting dayz-style is ok to you, vehicle physics looks plausible, but it's riding a bike that breaks your suspension of disbelief? :) You do realize that our toons are stronger and more resourceful than the Spiderman and McGyver rolled into one? That the Batman could literally be a sidekick to your average Survivor? Let's see, we can run ultramarathons equipped like mules, we can swim front crawl in full military gear, we know how to service/pilot helicopters and make backpacks out of animal skin... yeah, I figure we can ride a bike uphill all right.
-
You made me realize why I find it fun to look for vehicles - it's something that at last resembles some sort of a mission, a quest if you will, much more interesting than a heli hunt IMHO. Yep, I need to scout through Chernarus more to find people's bases and a good spot for mine (I thought I had a great location but recently it was discovered and robbed; oh well).
