  1. As far as I noticed, evac centers are good for bambi killer camping but you won't really gear on two mil tents. A gorka jacket if you're lucky, but most of the time you leave with an AK buttstock, and you're a sitting duck if you went there unarmed. That's not a way to put a lot of high-end gear in freshies' hands. Don't get me wrong, I see no reason for any mil items to be so close to the coast, but in my opinion this kind of evac centre layout won't do that much damage. A sprint to Stary Sobor should provide much more yield than running the coastal tents. Of course, I don't take server hopping into account but I almost never play public for this exact reason. But yes, military gear should be more not less pricey, if anything.

    damage done by wolves

Too true, I was mauled by a single wolf and watched the stats, after 6 hits, with 4k health and 1,5k blood I was dead (immediate, no unconscious).

    First Aid Kit storage capacity

I'd see no problem with a 4-slot FA kit giving 6 slots, which would reflect more optimized packaging. It's the matrioshka feature which should be strictly forbidden. The main problem, we have virtually no medical system to speak of. As a lone wolf who avoids PVP, 6 rags is literally the only med thing I carry. Morphine is worth carrying when you enter mil sites, the rest is either useless or extremely situational (i.e. not worth carrying). Funny how those vitamins and vials have spammed the loot board since forever.

    damage done by wolves

I know this topic is about damage dealt by wolves, but what about the one dealt to them? I was excited to find the new animal and looked for them as soon as I secured my first gun, a glock. It was dark but I'm sure I pumped a good deal of hits in their pack, however when I was dying, I think the entire pack (of 6) was still there. I didn't mind dying and I realized a glock is far from enough but I thought I'd get at least a few. So my question is - what's the minimum worst gun you would consider tackling a wolf pack with? Are headshots even in for the wolves? And BTW, hearing a wolf cry to the Moon in the middle of the night... Priceless.

Where are the animals in 0.60?

I've travelled a lot to find some huntable game (no smartass, chickens don't count) to very little success. So far, I've seen big game three times: deer at 125 082 (a pond near Orlovetz) and 053 052 (E of the NWAF, on move to their next location), as well as a herd of cattle at 065 060 (a big pond N of Stary Sobor). Usually, I used to see a lot of animals on the heli hunt route. The pond in Zeleno was almost sure to yield cows/deer, and I hear that it was a spawn point in 0.59. The other day in 0.60, I docked my toon there and kept logging in every 1-2 hours just to check if some animals pop in, to no avail. I realize that no place is 100% sure, but come on - even the best water spots are currently barren. So my question is, where have you seen bigger animals and what do you know about their spawning/moving routine these days? On a related note - sardines currently can't be prepared, can they? Thanks in advance.

Where are the animals in 0.60?

Thanks, buddy, I like your attitude towards exploring the game mechanics and I'm going to do likewise in final release (too many times I did in-game research only to see the subject of it completely overhauled). At least recently I got around to timing gas capacity in canisters (you mentioned something about propane). Turns out that small bottle burns for 2:30min, medium - 3:30 and large - 7:30 (before that I'd been under the impression that it's 1:2:3). As food cooks for 1 minute and the pot is fully warmed up after 15 sec. and the stove itself does some warming up, basically this means that you'll get 2:3:6 potloads of food, respectively (unless you're very fast with a timer and use the large bottle in one sitting). Just, you know, a small piece of info. ;)

Where are the animals in 0.60?

Thanks again! One more thing - how common that the animal paths are so predictable on your server? Is the number of animals with their spawns even server-dependent at all? It looks so to me right now, as I repeatedly visit the regions I've seen game (and I mean repeatedly like in dozens) and never have I stumbled on animals again.

Where are the animals in 0.60?

Thanks buddy, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. At last I got lucky with deer near Gvozdno, although I'm afraid you're right with the long arms - deer are ridiculously difficult to approach even on slow crawl. I don't think the bow will do the trick. And thanks for the AI behaviour. I also noticed that the animals try to come back, but I thought it's because one of them got stuck on a fence and they try to "reunite" somehow. Do you have any more observations of their herd behaviour? Is the 'herd' a unit in any way, after they scatter? Can a returning animal get 'unstuck' any stuck friends?

Where are the animals in 0.60?

Thanks for the tip, penguin. And thanks for the map, grandbob, but I'm super sure it's been outdated since 0.59. Animals these days are very rare, move a lot and there is never a surefire place you can find them. I checked if they spawn at the Zeleno pond and Kozlovka farm and no.

Where are the animals in 0.60?

Many thanks to all of you, guys! Eventually, I found my deer at 025 057, although my much expected hunt with a bow couldn't be less satisfying - all but one deer got stuck on a fence and I killed them with a knife, the last one darted through the plains and into thin air. I know cows can be successfully stalked and even killed with a bow (although it takes 3 bone arrows per one), but what is your experience with stalking deer if you don't have any long-range scoped weapons? It doesn't have to be the bow. ;) I mean, my experience is that the deer currently run at speeds which I would literally expect from an RPG rocket. Sure our toons run like hell as well, but I think there's no chance with catching up with deer even with Volga. Any luck with approaching deer after you scared the herd? Again, without 400+m hits. Maybe some other tips from an experienced hunter?

Where are the animals in 0.60?

Many thanks, I'm on it. As for the 'deer and cows only' thing - is it someone's own observation or status report?
  12. Word to 3). And the more we wait with it, the louder tantrums our Rambos will throw. Also, at first I was 'meh' about all water sources holding non-zero chance of infection, but if it raised the need for antibiotics, I wouldn't say no. But first we need some big overhaul to the medical system, what we have right now is nothing but a placeholder. What you're saying is right about one thing, the water purification tablets are not really needed in 99% situations. And your idea could be as well implemented through shaving off some wells.
  13. If you feel that dayz is survival and you greet the zeds with anything else than 'great, maybe this place hasn't been looted yet', then let me welcome you to dayz! I hear people are looking for you on the coast.
  14. I hope we're ever closer to the time when the devs will stop pander to the pvp folk. The brutal fact is, dayz is supposed to be a survival game, it is not one at the moment, and survival issues are precisely the ones called "boring" by some people here. Let's face it, a game, even sandbox like ours, cannot provide equal amounts of fun to those who want to be always strapped for resources and those who just want to have a shoot-out in Cherno. At the end of the day, we'll have to bid some not-so-sad farewell. As much as I understand all the arguments for abundant food as it is right now, I still share the same concern with the OP - I get it that survival things need tweaking, what I don't get is why getting food is precisely as easy as running. Just make it so if you don't take care of your lunch, you won't get to the bright-green energized. What's the problem with that? But it's just me, I get it that the devs want to have it the way it is, so ok. Personally, I love the scarcity of loot in 0.60. I got back to playing dayz only to practice my bow skills. I decided I wanted to master archery when I noticed (finally!) how scarce ammo is and how cleaned up sometimes the NWAF is. I still find ammo and AK guns, but I'm happy how hard it is to find any useful stuff and that most houses are actually empty. This is precisely a step in the direction I'm waiting for.

    Tents despawn time

Same, I found a barrel of mine I forgot about for at least 3 weeks, quite likely much more. I doubt anyone fiddled with it and it looked like this, so I guess it's the 45-day period as mentioned.
  16. Kirov (DayZ)

    Is DayZ a disappointment?

:D You guys just won't believe how naive I am. Get this: I've been away for two months, since February, when 0.60 was 'any day now'. I've been very busy for that time and couldn't play but an hour ago or so it hit me: "DayZ! 0.60 must be in by now! Let me check if it made to the stable already!". I guess that deep down, I'm still a sweet, innocent, wide-eyed child. Thank you, BI, for bringing it out of me.

    Survivalist Training Camp

Oh, yes I remember that green house well from back before the overhaul. I wonder if Msta spawns as well, I had tough luck finding any animals there.

    Survivalist Training Camp

Do we have any suggestions as to where the game spawns, as opposed to where it roams? I know for sure that animals despawn on a server restart, probably coming back to where they originally started from. Did anyone spot any animal right after a restart?
  19. Kirov (DayZ)

    Enough with the guns already....

You mean other than the one you posted in that heat map thread? Care to share it or PM it? I can also help with work. Yesterday I had my first honest-to-God deer hunt (017 043) and it was swell. A lot of work to be done, sure, but also a lot of work already there.
  20. OK guys, my friend found several IV kits and is with me, it seems I will make it after all. Full report later, many thanks to all of you for your interest. :beans:

What is your honest opinion on the future of DayZ

Thanks for your reply, nice to see the devs reaching to 'concerned Survivors', thumbs up. We all know it's alpha and all, but some reassurance as to the future every now and then is welcome.
  22. This is heavy cholera, check the link in the spoilers I provided, the blood and water loss is given at 4:40. Mookie, believe me, it's not about trust. I spent several hours trying to keep this lad alive, driving from a hospital to a hospital, looking for IV kits, taking care of food and water, hemorrhaging like a pig. I probably lost a Lada, which I parked near the Petrovka health care centre and had to log out and didn't have time to find a safe spot (and it was a week ago). My hidden barrels are slowly fading away into non-persistence (it's 7 days for barrels and cars, am I right?). Long story short, I invested a lot in riding out that cholera. There's a friend of mine who can help me out, but he's quite busy with RL and not that much fan of DayZ, while the job requires finding a number of IV kits (preferably full blood bag kits with compatible blood). I'm close to water, but I'm afraid apples won't cut it, the blood loss is just too much. And I can't even leave the centre, there are the Infected around and I can't afford to fight or shoot. I'm already low on blood But I still don't accept my fate. In fact, I still intend to survive this even if it means waiting until my entire stash is gone. Sooner or later my friend will come over if I don't find assistance here. Yep, I know the condition is super tough but it can be survived with a lot of effort (on the helper's part, I'm afraid). ;) The story itself is quite interesting and you can learn a lot about the game mechanics while trying to figure out how to stay alive. EDIT: but of course, thanks for your offer anyway.

How can we fix camping ?

I hear you, but wouldn't that mean that all the military locations on all the servers should have been barren by now? I mean, the NWAF must be stripped clean at every restart so the above rule should apply tenfold. Yet good loot continues to spawn there and at Veresnik, Myshkino, etc.
  24. Kirov (DayZ)

What is your honest opinion on the future of DayZ

Strongly disagree. There is a myriad of elements you can manipulate in order to elicit a behaviour you want. Several ideas, all of them discussed on this forum: - make ammo count - scarce loot - force people to hunt before hitting the tent bases - tougher factors like wetness, hunger, sickness, etc. - make vitamins no less essential to carry than additional mags - medical system which requires you to seek assistance of other players - personalized skills which allow for synergy and also make you more committed to your current toon. Just start with greatly reducing ammo spawn and Tyson punching - in order to KOS, you need to have something to kill liberally with in the first place. Then cut canned food ten times and people will start to prefer shovels over Mosins. Seriously, this is one of the few problems with DayZ which can be solved with a handful of tweaks to the loot table. Of course, the resistance would be just massive.

    Nights are way too bright.

I carry around a gas lamp and use it on occasion, at night you can miss a lot of loot, even with the habit of constantly using the vicinity screen. But I agree with the OP, nights are too bright right now. I'd rather go back to very dark nights even at the risk of being the only one actually using a light source. Also, some kind of night vision would make things more equal for those who shun the gamma abuse. As it is right now, I don't drive or visit hot areas at all in the nighttime.
