I would really, really like to know the exact chance for catching cholera when healthy. Can we pry this info from somewhere?
-
I'm absolutely sure that hot cooking pots warm up a lot - in fact, it more than outweighs the temperature drop when 'drenched' in 0.61 - have checked that when there was that status window in the beginning. And I'm also fairly certain that warm items have nothing to do with wet status, but you may want to double-check that.

This is exactly what I've said for a long time about police stations - these will always get my heart pumping, even in small hamlets, and 9 out of 10 times they are looted down to road flares. When I spawn on the coast, I don't even bother checking the police - a noticeable chance of getting a shotgun blast in exchange for virtually zero chance for any useful loot. When it comes to military stuff, I don't have much luck with check points, but then again I don't even need that much of mil loot nowadays - civilian weapons work fine by me and have so much more ammo, while crafted gear provides more slots now. The only item I care about are gorka jackets for heavy rains. If you do come back to the NWAF, remember to check out those high towers with mesh-like floors, they tend to spawn good weapons these days. But I understand your sentiments completely, military weapons come only useful in military areas, so stay clear of these and you're good.

Is it possible to remove the "crosshair"?
Kirov (DayZ) replied to SoWeMeetAgain's topic in General Discussion
These days I'm playing on a server with the crosshair removed, it has 'ohne crosshair' in the name. So I guess it is possible. -
Lets talk about looting and zombies/animals animations
Kirov (DayZ) replied to kevo1414's topic in General Discussion
Looting, especially via Tab, is one of those many things which micro-break my immersion. By all means, make us pick up some pants and go pocket after pocket. Stuff should be both harder to see and to pry out. I think my main problem is using the Vicinity at night and in all cases when you 'comb' the area while tabbed. -
Swell idea, but I believe we expect this and much more in the final release. Can anyone confirm the status of scripted events, random encounters. etc. in the upcoming builds/beta/1.0? Will we get none/some/much? What about the AI mentioned above?

All my guns and ammo couldn't protect me from getting sick and dying :(

Spray Mr Clean on some half-eaten chicken or Dean's kiwi to make it edible?? Me confused. -
All my guns and ammo couldn't protect me from getting sick and dying :(
Kirov (DayZ) replied to bfisher's topic in General Discussion
I noticed people tend not to bother and just drop their civilian tents in various places, including the NWAF airstrip, with some random useless loot inside. Only noobs will drink from a canteen/bottle found in a tent, but a half-eaten steak shouldn't raise any red flags. Not that (at the moment) I'm planning to manage server population spread by well-placed tents, but it is nice to have this option up my sleeve. ;) I just want to know if it's worth it. Besides, that's precisely the kind of DayZ research I like to do. -

Another interesting to verify would be if the container contamination is "washed away" after one or more emptyings. To be sure, we'd have a lot to check and the procedure would be a pain in the ass (antibiotics seem a must-have). Recently yet again I had nothing to do in DayZ, maybe this will give me some goal. I'll see. -

Kirov (DayZ) replied to bfisher's topic in General Discussion
Any idea what are the chances for contamination? Seems like the information our Bio Dept would really like to know. Is it possible/feasible that there are two variables? One for the contamination of a container, second for the contraction of cholera from that container? Just thinking aloud as a non-programmer how it can possibly work and how I can test it. -

Kirov (DayZ) replied to bfisher's topic in General Discussion
What I meant was, do they have to be so battered as the patient zero when catching the disease. Normally, the odds of contracting cholera while in full health are so low that I think they are negligible. I got cholera (and rode out the most serious one) by drinking from a pond when I was so low on blood that I misclicked the purification and didn't even notice. So to pass cholera, is it required that the victims are in bad shape as well? Or does it apply also to healthy toons? -

Kirov (DayZ) replied to bfisher's topic in General Discussion
Do they have to be low on health, too? As if it was them who was drinking from the pond? -
I especially like this bit: The boy must be doing his pewpew from Afghanistan. Otherwise, how much of a simulation can it be?
-
Thumbs up to both threads, I hope the devs read it all, man!

So it's the number not the leader, after all? Only once I tried to make the leader my last kill, but it was taking too long and one of the wolves instakilled me. Apart from that, I kinda always assumed that my third one was the leader.

Could mushrooms possibly share the same dynamic system with apples?
Kirov (DayZ) replied to ZomboCZ's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the info about shroms, but I think Rhombus69 kinda has a point. After all, we still have the option 'Drink All' from a jerry can. You probably wouldn't recommend eating raw human meat in a survival situation, yet you can do just that. To be honest, I even it find inconsistent that we can't drink seawater if we're apparently so fine with gasoline. The line of 'your toon wouldn't do that so it's not even a option' is a fine one, but nevertheless mushroom eating should very well be there. Maybe the shrooms could be fine tuned so that they are detrimental to you when you just went to the forest as a freshie but prove a nice and tasty addition to an otherwise wholesome and balanced diet. -
Status Report - 24 January 2017
Kirov (DayZ) replied to Baty Alquawen's topic in News & Announcements
It seems that soon the Berezino orchards will be considered "a remote area". I too remember when there were only feedshacks north of the N Highway. I concur putting some life there, but I'm worried that all this urban planning is going to far... Devs, can you leave a patch of terrain where "there is nothing to go for"? There are moments when such areas are just what some folks are looking for. -
How is persistance working at the moment !
Kirov (DayZ) replied to Aim-iliO's topic in General Discussion
Hello, does anybody know? I'd like to know specific times for persistent and non-persistent items, too. I believe non-persistent are somehow varied and e.g. animal remains last longer, with pelts lasting longer than other parts. And I wander how long garden plots survive. -
Will we be able to tame wolves, falcons or other animals?
Kirov (DayZ) replied to Salty seadog's topic in General Discussion
Well, I certainly don't need to see on-screen rationale to buy it; a canon, like movie-style narration ("consult dayzpedia"0, would be fine. Putting a burnt down forest in game just to back up something seems way too excessive, and I wouldn't count on the implementation of forest fire. As for the virus, come on, our Zed Virus is already somewhat magicky, so instead of consulting a team of bio-experts, I think it's best to care about the plot and fun. Even another kind of virus (like, there was an accident at a bio fac and several strains were released) would be enough for me to believe strange animal behaviour. After all, we seem to have no problem with the "civil war" thingie, which somehow doesn't convince me as to those magnums and shotguns in village houses. But I roll with it for the sake of gameplay. -
"I'm concerned about the dwindling numbers" sounds so much better than "it takes ages to gear up and get back into battle". Virtually every pew pew player considers himself a spokesperson for disappointed masses. "Oh, it's not that I die to the weather all the time, I'm just honestly worried about your sales". Maybe we should send them directly to BI Marketing Department?

Will we be able to tame wolves, falcons or other animals?
Kirov (DayZ) replied to Salty seadog's topic in General Discussion
True, but we need to remember that this is a long-term optimum, not a law of physics. If you release 10 wolf packs into a forest, you will briefly have 10 wolf packs in the forest. I can imagine many events which throw the equilibrium off balance - massive fires in North Zagoria come as first to my mind. Heavy forest devastation pushed throngs of animals into our Chernarus and right now we have an imbalanced situation, one that has to be resolved one way or another. Such congestion could also affect animal behaviour in various ways (e.g. that wolf pack which cornered you in Krasnystav was actually driven away from their hard-earned kill by another pack and is getting more and more desperate). The sheer number of animals can always be hand-waved because you can always say that there was a huge zoo nearby or something like that. The bigger problem is animal behaviour. Wolves need to stop running up to gunshots and if they don't, we need some explanation about virus effects. I have no problems with only certain species being affected by the virus, in the exact manner necessary for a cool game plot, it's all just a game after all, but I'd like to be given such an explanation. -

Farewell, Lexman. I have no idea what you mean, who are you talking with or what you think is being said here. And I'd like to get back to the topic now. -
I'm not banning anyone, I didn't report the OP to the moderators. What I did was just a friendly shoutout to regulars who every now and then have to read a one-time thread along the lines of "fuck you to the guy who killed me at the NWAF!!1". If that's enough for you to call me 'elitist', maybe I'm not the one here who is trying to gag other people. For a guy who demands a say for everyone, you sure are very quick to judge. And obviously, you're wrong saying that I have to endure anything. Of course I endure if I must, but what I don't have to do is clap my hands to any idiotic statement on this forum, and I've seen many. If you think that everyone's opinion weights equally, you're hilariously wrong. When one guy says the Earth is round and the other that it is flat, the 'let's agree to disagree' option doesn't really work here - the former is right and the latter is an imbecile. You could as well add shit to your salad and claim it's more wholesome food this way. Yes, regulars tend to contribute more stuff worth reading here, you'll see that for yourself if you stay around. As for 'DayZ as a sect', again, you're not really saying anything worth commenting, it's just your personal musings. Literally the only reply I have is the Dude's "well... this is, like... your opinion... man". Or to make it short, "na-ah". You just give a couple of "snarky" remarks and expect... what? There is nothing to address here. Your only real argument is that when this game is finally forged into what it was promised to be, the playerbase will diminish. This is blatantly false. I know or heard of scores of players driven away by the lack of survival mechanics combined with the dickery of KOSers. My friends-gamers ask me why I keep playing a game where the pinnacle of interpersonal creativity is shooting and then bandaging someone's leg, to leave him to crawl for suicide. DayZ playerbase has the opinion of a bunch of psychotic dumb teenage fucks, and when I say "psychotic", I don't mean Hannibal Lecter, I mean a rabid dog dry-humping a hedgehog. BTW - I totally agree with that opinion and I tend to stay alone for the most time. But I noticed that this changes and it does so mainly due to the addition of survival mechanics. Which, I remind you, does not prevent anyone from PVP at Elektro. But the rest of the folk who bought a copy and promptly left with distaste will finally make it back. So far, PVP-oriented players have received so much more than the PVE folk, so your complains sound to my ears like those of that US billionaire who said that these days, the rich are persecuted statewide as much as the Jews during the Holocaust (I can't be bothered to google his name at the moment). If there is one aspect of DayZ closest to be fully fleshed out, it's PVP. So please, start being serious. So far it seems that DayZ was created with people like you in mind. Enjoy it while it lasts! I told you once but you failed to address, acknowledge or grasp it - there is no accommodation to everyone's playstyle if one of such styles is KOS-ing. If in any given group of people there is a KOS-er, then either he kills everyone or they kill him. You need to finally understand that it's the KOS-ers who prevent other people from enjoying the game the way they want. Last time I told you that, you just said "let's agree to disagree" and disappeared. This is anything but a debate which you wanted so much. So far the only thing you have to say is that every idiot has a right to his/her opinion. So? We're on the Internet now and it's actually painfully obvious. And yes, what @emuthreat says - hopefully, the current CoD-like status of the game will be gone in time. Pray tell, what part of "zombie apocalypse survival" you didn't understand?

Kirov (DayZ) replied to Salty seadog's topic in General Discussion
Lexman61, I refused to believe that you meant what you said not because I don't agree, but because what you said is literally one of the most prominent examples of Strawman that I've ever seen online, and I actually mean literally, which is saying something. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man You could as well go to a forum for breastfeeding moms and say "So one day I'm not allowed to grab them by the pussy and the next day they cut my dick off!!!". Doesn't make much sense, does it? Your comments above have literally nothing to do with anything in the world, let alone with the discussion that we have here. I have no idea what you mean and what you criticize here, and why on earth you see any kind of connection whatsoever between animal companions and toilet needs. And sure as hell I'm not going to defend the Strawman. But I'd love to implement toothache for anyone who honestly believe that they would be 'lone wolves/psychopaths' in an actual apocalypse. Most would quickly learn the lesson here. -
I wonder how many users registered here just to vent in their one barely coherent rant, only to disappear again, forever... Fly, elitenation, fly high and farewell! Thank you for sharing your story with us.
