    The theory of everything

Let's now allow this thread to derail into a Youtube flame, ok? Let's stick to the libtard agenda of bringing meaning to Chernarus encounters. Does anyone know if the devs commented on how they imagine end game interactions? Do they consider a light-hearded Elektro screwdriver KOS-ing a thing or an issue? To put in it other words, do they want to keep the players who drive other players away from the game?

    New respect for bus drivers

Wait a minute, I thought you can't even start a car with a ruined battery? As for the bus, it's actually a cool toy, quite quiet (second only to Volga) and faster than the truck (and you don't want to speed in urban conditions anyway). But it's not meant for off-road environment, so don't venture too far from them. It's true that due to the distance between the axes, as well the distance between the rear edge and the rear axis, the bus is prone to get stuck on ditches and the like. As for going uphill, try negotiating them on low gears, sometimes the 1st gear is necessary all the way. I learnt that if I want to actually keep the vehicle I drive, I go ca 30km/h in cities and tad more than 50 km/h outside. More than that and you risk totalling the car (like someone did with your bus before) due to a few-second lags which I'm not the only one to experience. The other day I drove through the Northern Highway and noticed three totalled cars from Petrovka to Novo. But if you want just to have fun, especially with Volga, step on that pedal and do it hard!

    Loot In Dayz Stand Alone

Is it still the map edges? Just curious, I've never even once mustered the patience to run this thing.

    The theory of everything

I give all of this all four thumbs up and parts of the above have been the content of my prayers ever since I spawned for my first time in Dolina. The only issue is - where are the gods we pray to? I don't even know if the devs read these forums or care about the players' input and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the didn't, considering the fuckloads of shit they get virtually every day. Can someone tell us if the final version is something already on a drawing board or is it still just a vague concept? I read every now and then how the end result will be a 'deadly survival experience', with harsh conditions etc., but these words can mean anything. I read status reports only occasionally but I've never seen the devs address the main and real issues like the pointlessness of interactions (survival-wise, at least), less-than-fascinating looting experience, etc. Like the OP said, you can add millions of features like vehicles, scripted events or fancy graphics, and this all can still mean squat for the gameplay - in the end, boys will loot and then go die at Cherno/NWAF/Tisy. Taking down everyone encountered with them. Re: the psychology of war - just yesterday a friend of mine was attacked/KOsed three times in Elektro and Bere, all by freshies with fists or screwdrivers. No, it didn't feel dangerous or exciting, don't teach me with a smug smile how dodgy Chernarus is. Rather, it felt like my friend could have a more interesting interaction with a voice-activated Google service and I mean it literally. Nothing what I followed in the development seemed like be designed to address this issue at least in a small and partial way. These are all very legit concerns so don't you alpha me, because like said above, no amounts of base building and choppers will ever solve this issue. It seems I'm not the only one concerned with the development. The other day one dev told me 'the first priorities are not the first deliverables'. Fine, but what are actually the priorities? Where can we read about that or even reach the devs themselves? Let me start with a simple question - is the 'berserk bambie' strategy fine with people responsible for the development? Do you just 'hope' it will go away when you add more stuff and what's your plan B if it doesn't?

    unplayable ofc

I'm not here to defend the gameplay, just wanted to say that there's one thing I've noticed on these forums - people like you absolutely never, ever complain about the 'unrealism' of the myriad things which are conducive to a smooth pew-pew experience. A close combat shotgun wound treated with a freakin' stick with some T-shirt leftovers wrapped around it? What, we've all been there. 4 cans of tactical bacon chased by 25 apples? Barely what I call a dessert. It's raining cats and dogs? Just put on this thing, we call it a 'Gorka jacket' but it's more of a force field, really. Shat yourself from cholera? Take this one single pill from some random blister I found in a hospital and you'll be good as new in half an hour. To make myself clear here - I don't call for a realistic simulator of nerve paralysis or food poisoning complications (a gunshot in a post-apoc scenario would probably almost always equal death). But I'm surprised how the 'unrealism' stick only works one way. It's true that rain is ridiculously (and excessively) deadly, but it's happening in a game where you can take out an FNX from a cooking pot from the deep of your backpack in 1 second. Where's the rant topic you started about that? Rain hampers your immersion, but freakin' hotkeys don't? Pray tell, how many hotkeys do you have assigned in real life?

how many people do PVE and never try to kill

Same here. Sometimes I pulled the trigger at the NWAF, but usually I tend to try be immersed in the world and taking a life just like that would amount to 'murder'. My toon sees no reason to kill. Back when the SVD came in, I found it and had quite a number of fellas in my crosshairs, only to let them go and go after animals instead. These days, I look for good places for barrels in this changed environment and hunt animals with a bow. But I must say I'm really surprised, no bandits in the bandit thread and here there's a number of us. I thought I'm the only wuss in this game.

How many people here do legit real banditry?

I hear but I can't agree. Game design wise, it's gameplay not culture which shapes people's behaviour. If there's no benefit in teaming up, you can't expect people to do so and it's in fact strange if they do. It's like you had a board game and you could buy a special card which does completely nothing. Sure, a family or two will try to have these one each, but the majority of players will just shrug and give it a wide berth. People behave more or less rationally and I don't think that the community has much to do with it. People KOS because there's no endgame, gearing up in itself is boring, ammo is abundant, etc. Sure if you raise the difficulty level, a lot will complain and quit, but the remainers will adapt their behaviour. Others will come in and enjoy the game like it was supposed to be, i.e. a post-apoc horror survival. Also this specific current kind of gameplay (i.e. focus on early weapons instead on PVE aspects) attracted a specific kind of a player base and I think that's where the devs made the biggest mistake which is now biting them in the ass on various forums. They should've started with the campfire mechanics not the M4 modular assembly. Crafted bolts should be priority over SVD or even vehicles. Small wonder people are surprised now that there is a cold weather. I'd love to have meaningul interactions in DayZ but I just can't see how I can get that. I don't need a partner for Tisy raiding, hunting, car driving, zombie killing etc. And there's too much risk that I've just run into another bored kiddie. Usually I tend to keep my distance from other players. I have a lot of fun on my own and when I get bored, I just quit DayZ for a while. But give me a reason to approach and I will happily do just that.

How many people here do legit real banditry?

Sorry mate, but like Vattenlarv said - people didn't stop banditing because 'the Golden Era of robbery' is over, but because the game does everything it can to discourage us from meaningful interactions. And topics get derailed here all the time. ;) Although you're right that we shouldn't have done that. But as you see, literally no other bandit showed up, so I guess you're truly the lonely bandit... :( Who knows, maybe your time will come back?

FULL GEAR - ZOMBIE 1 HIT = Dead

I heard somewhere that the bone status is a myth, perpetuated by WOBO who made this when analysing the game files? So is the bone status in or not? I can't say my experience can confirm its existence. My toons tend to live long and take huge numbers of hits from the zeds and I see no signs of gradual 'wearing down'.

food need balance to save life

This made my day. Off to a rough start, aren't you? :D Look, I know you're alpha predatoring but I want you to wear a wool cap, m'kay? You don't want to make us worried.

How many people here do legit real banditry?

I believe I raised this issue several times and I was far from being the only one. I hoped all these problems will go away with the final release, as 1) the sprinting speed is set to be reduced when working vehicles are in (can't wait for that bicycle!), 2) the stamina system is in, 3) the weight system will further slow down all those tanks on foot which come out of Tisy/heli guantlet; fully-geared people will be hopefully sitting ducks. As for the difficulty, I think we start to see some progress - in 0.61, it was perfectly possible to spear the zeds without a scratch. In 0.62, they tend to land their punches even so (although maybe it's just a bigger desync). The bow still despatches the zeds like a dream. But maybe it will only get better? The devs must have something up their sleeve, besides it's not actually that hard (design-wise) to greatly increase the zed difficulty. First and foremost, I think they should be attracted to each other's yells. Second, give them more hit points. Then you can add some other zed species like ultra-runners, jumpers, wall-crawlers, door-smashers, etc. but this is probably much harder. Do you think maybe we should contact a forum mod and ask if the devs are aware/care about this problem? Because now you got me worried. I fully agree that the final release will be unplayable in the long run if this is not all solved. People shouldn't look for interactions "to make finally something happen in this boring game", it should be a game-induced necessity or at least a huge benefit.

How many people here do legit real banditry?

A friend of mine watched me have a few friendly encounters and laughed his head off. The standard behaviour of two players meeting is probably considered a mating dance by some birds. There are two main factors that made me reduce my interactions to unexpected run-ins and you mention both: 1) PVPing when people literally run faster than the others can shoot is just laughable. If I want to have a realistic fight, I go play Insurgency. DayZ combat is only slightly higher than first Doom games in terms of realism. I would even like to have a light-hearted shooting practive every now and then, but then I recall how I couldn't kill a guy running around me in circles and I just lose my heart. 2) Unless it's the first 3 minutes of my toon, there's absolutely nothing I could gain from the other player. Whatever he's got in his pockets, I either have already in a barrel or can secure in a much safer way than a shoot-out. And teaming up gives zero benefits. Both are actually among some of the most important problems with DayZ and greatly limit the gameplay potential.

    Tanning Hide?

I discovered it only yesterday and thought it's a one-time glitch. So there's no use tanning hide right now? Like you said, this is extremely sad, PVE is not fully there without crafted clothes. Let me know if you get any comment.

    new player new boss

And about time to learn punctuation, whether you are an English native speaker or not. Do you know how to switch from global to vehicle communication? That's a 'period', put it... Just put it at the end of every line, at least for now. To the left, there is the 'previous channel' key (or a 'coma'), put it every time you would normally pause to take a breath. These are by no means sure-fire rules, but they should help you get less criticism for your writing. Also, take it easy with the recruitment thing; (that's a 'semi-colon' to the left, but I digress) we're a bunch of oldish, introvert hunters-gatherers and your call may fall on deaf ears. Why not try steam?

Will night vision take away from Dayz ?

No you don't, because you don't cheat with gamma! :P
  16. Kirov (DayZ)

    bad joke

You can, but the stick will keep'em at a proper distance. Against zeds, the stick/spear is really one of the best solutions.

    bad joke

Look at the ground near coasts, where there is the 'search for stones' option, you can find a stone and craft a knife in the same spot. http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Improvised_Knife Also https://www.primagames.com/games/dayz/tips/how-craft-improvised-stone-knife-dayz You can then cut a branch off virtually every tree. Kill a chicken and put a bone on your long stick to have a spear. http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Spear With your mighty spear, mow down your puny opponents while laughing maniacally!

Also, repeat after me: I'll walk up to the beach, I'll find a stone, I'll craft a stone knife, I'll cut a branch off a tree and I'll use a long stick as a weapon.

Will night vision take away from Dayz ?

Well, I happen to share the OP's concern and I can't say I'm put at ease by the above. I'm not saying I'm panicking or something, but a group equipped with NVG (looted and stored over a long period of time) can easily dominate a server in the sense that it can deny access to big parts of the map without any counter-action by other players. Of course, I agree that we will see if this happens close to final release. It's just I don't see how NVG brings any benefits to the gameplay. So it's more of a question 'we could but should we'. The 'rarity' argument doesn't really convince me because a 20-Megaton ICBM, even 'very rare', could also have a somewhat detrimental effect on the gameplay and hence has little reason to feature in DayZ. But let's fix the gamma thing and sources of light first, shall we?

    Loot In Dayz Stand Alone

Well, in the EU area there shouldn't be any problems with good servers. As a rule of thumb, just avoid clan 'kick=join' servers and you're good. HC ones never kicked me. Usually I tend to stick to German PVE or mixed servers and I've never had any issues with that. You're bound to find something for yourself!
  22. Do we know what the final-release containers will be? I've heard about burying stash, is it confirmed? Will the foliage allow to hide barrels? Personally, I only use tents for surplus stuff and keep precious items in barrels hidden in sweet spots across the map. I've yet to see if 0.62 changes these and I'd like to know if concealed containers are feasible in the final game.
  23. Kirov (DayZ)

Look this Devs some inspiration from indies :D

In most night conditions (i.e. without full moon) it is next to impossible to adjust your vision to such extent that you can avoid a hole in the ground or a tree root. I've spent a lot of time in the forests at night and I have no doubt that humans need light in order to see at night; this is what is meant by being 'diurnal'. If the ground (outside of roads and paths) is not pitch black to you, this means you have good seeing conditions due to the moon, stars or city-lit clouds. Don't count on that all the time. Night in Dayz is ridiculously bright (pre-gamma), it roughly translates into '1/1.5hrs-after-sunset' twilight. It always makes me laugh when I see a glow plug in a dark shed. Not only gamma exploit must go, but sources of light must be made necessary in order to properly loot a building. Full moon or not, a windowless shack should yield maybe a hoe but not freakin' lockpicks. Proper night looting without light should be just a series of 'ouch'es and 'what the hell was that?'s. As it is right now, not only sources of light are unnecesary but they actually make you see less, in an unrealistic way which has nothing to do with vision adaptation. The torch makes you see only the torch and nothing else, which kinda defeats the purpose of lighting it. The gas lamp wasn't bad, which is obviously why it doesn't work right now. Still waiting for proper night conditions.

Support for the game after 1.0 drops?

You've just won my personal Most Optimistic Thread Ever award. At least until somebody starts a 'What features do you expect in Dayz 2?" discussion.
  25. Kirov (DayZ)

Killed by Hacker, share your experience.

Well, I follow a similar playstyle and for the sake of immersion/adrenaline, I tend to choose HC servers with ample amounts of non-accelerated nights. Such servers are usually low- to medium-pop as people shun HC/night and I've never met a hacker on one, even in hot zones. You can try German ones like wesurvive and borntosurvive. I think they're 3PP and accelerated, but they provide a decent level of danger without constant PVP. Russia is a powerhouse in the hacking business and I heard recently that there are tools you can't even buy if you're not Russian (I'm not one despite the nickname). I don't know how this affects Russian servers, it's just too easy to hop away. But I like to imagine they flock to one server and kill one another, calling each other 'lame hacker' in the progress. God I'd like to know what you get from cheating in a regular video game... On a side note, just today I played experimental and suffered so huge desync that it would teleport me all around Turovo like stupid. I wonder if anyone saw me and thought it's cheat. Oh well.
