    I am shaking...but!

I have camped, hiked and hunted all over the Mono recess. Good deer hunting there, its a cool place. There are some good restaurants and a couple of motels in Lee Vining. Clint Eastwood made High Planes Drifter there. No I have never needed or even heard of a Fireplace kit. I do make fire starters out of a little powdered magnesium and Paraffin wax soaked news paper rolled up like a miniature presto log. They will get wood going. Its strange but the best thing about a fire for me is that it cheers me up when I am alone in the woods. However since I live in the Peoples Republic of California you need a fire permit to build a campfire in wilderness country, and often you cant get one. But I figure If I want a small fire I'll build one and risk the ticket I haven't gotten one yet :) . And the Devs could do worse than higher a Boy Scout to teach them a little woods craft. :P Beans? :beans:

The Costner version was such utter sappy horse shit that I walked out half way through and I wish I could eliminate it from my memory as well. But I fear DeathLove might be right. It may have mutilated my mind and become an indelible scar :( For the last few years I have been hanging in the Mount Whitney to The Palisades area and Owens gorge and I live two miles from Indian Cove in Joshua Tree National Park Its hard to pick a bad spot in the Sierras. Hey! Have you ever climbed Crystal Craig in the Mammoth Lakes area its a hoot. To me the best climbs are on the left side of the picture. http://www.mountainproject.com/v/crystal-crag/105983733

Cool I watched a film of some Australian Aboriginals launching spears with their throwing sticks at a target...they looked devastating. Ebrim wrote, " it just seems most servers are horridly frigid right now. Unless you've become cold immune which I talk about here, it seems on most servers you'll be losing body heat almost no matter what you're wearing." Now that is interesting thanks for the info. Beans? :beans:

I agree 100% I learned the trick of cutting down saplings almost without effort with a folding knife from those guys...cool stuff. One more thing about layering. Yes as you said it is most certainly the key. Here is a PDF that explains how Mallory and Irvine were dressed on their 1924 attempt on Mount Everest many layers of silk merino wool and an outer sheath of herringbone Gaberdine. Were they freezing their asses off...NO and their clothing was light http://www.alpinejournal.org.uk/Contents/Contents_2007_files/AJ%202007%20243-246%20Hoyland%20Clothing.pdf a short vid. all five parts are on youtube. Note: Here is a survival tool that can be made in the bush I am attempting to craft one and then learn how to use it. The Atlatl Instead of a flint point (I don't do flint Knapping) I'll make my spears with flame hardened tips and see if I can kill dinner with it.

BioHaze, I've watched the guy a few times but he is a bit too full of himself for my tastes and i guess he's gone over the deep end and fallen in love with himself. So I really like this guy (Dave Canterbury) from Pathfinder school better.... I built a sling-bow according to his instructions and it works great. :)

1)Everyone knows that the condition of your clothing matters that's why my stuff is always pristine. And if it isn't I replace it ASAP. If I have a zombie-ruined Gorka Jacket on and I find a brown plaid, gray checked, or Green wool Jacket the Gorka hits the dumpster faster than a dog can trot. 2) I don't think anyone is panicking but you might be right on that one (for a very few players especially Noobs.) 3)Right after the wipe I tested how far a player can get with only his starting clothing and no food or drink I spawned on the beach not far from Electro and made it to the NWAF (a 12km trip) before I succumbed to the elements. The shaking, cold, hungry starving soaked etc messages were constant. But once you get the 'you are hypodermic' message you haven't got a real long time to live according to that test. BioHaze I did not intend to deride anyone especially not you. There is a point and that is how are we to know what the temperature is on a bright sunny day that may be colder than a witches tit or Hot as hell? And since we cant feel the temp Perhaps a Compass +Thermometer combination would be a good item to have. I am looking forward to the day when the other side of the coin pops up "You are overheating" and that will require you to leave open enough slots to hold that nice jacket in your pack. or have the option of loosening and opening your jacket. If you took offence at anything I said then I apologize so have a can of delicious Beans :beans: NOTE: My Brother is an avid cyclist, you guys are in a word insane..but cool

Zombie Milkman You have your Beans sir!!! and I do know what you are talking about. When they say Maine has all four seasons they mean it and Katahdin has the appearance of any +12,000ft peak in the Sierras (to me). I've never been climbing in Maine but I have done a little backpacking there and on that hike it was cold wet not cold enough to freeze but cold, wet and windy enough to suck your energy away quickly. The last time I climbed Mount Whitney (14,450ft and the hump starts at 8300ft). It was in late October (a dangerous time). On the way up from the Portal it was warm and clear and I saw some morons on the trail wearing T shirts shorts and fanny packs. My buddies and I had in our packs full on winter kits (October is unpredictable). The mountain was climbed via the steep but easy class 4 winter rout that starts just above the Iceberg lake Basin at 13,000ft or so. Some of the dweebs made sport of our heavy loads and ice axes on the way up and gave me advise on how to get to Everest...But 1/3d of the way down a rather nasty storm hit in the late afternoon and dumped wind snow and COLD weather on us. We just set up camp and deployed the two tents and hunkered down and started cooking and preparing hot drinks. The dummies had a rather bad night of it. We heard some of them whining and crying on the way down they selected. I'm glad they didn't come across me and my buds looking for handouts because that saved us from denying them any assistance. Note: I liked several aspects of STAKE LAND especially: 1) The Vamps looked like and were as stupid as Zombies. 2) They existed by scavenging trading Vamp teeth and their wits. 3) There were very few state of the art movie guns in the film. Have you read, "The Postman?" The film sucked balls big time but the book is prime Post Apoc. Read the first couple of pages from chapter 1 and you'll be hooked. I am shaking...but!

Jesus what a surprise  And I thought my pristine Fireman's jacket, balaclava, Radar cap, gloves, military boots, cargo pants was as good as anyone's. [Edit] Guys, with me running and dry pristine gear on I'm not sure that I should be shaking. By the by an elevation increase of 1000 meters drops the temperature 6.4˚C and another interesting Factoid is that the highest elevation on the Chernarus map is about 600m above sea level and that is in the North West corner of the map. So from lowest elevation to the highest there is a temperature range of about 4˚C. I hope no other mountaineers are actually trying to tell me that an increase of 600m of elevation alone is going to jam me into hypothermia when I am: 1) wearing my full cold weather gear while ice climbing or doing some general mountaineering. 2) And then there is the fact that The direct path from Vibor to Sinistock has pretty much a constant 250 - 300 meters of elevation 3) Actually it has been my experience that when burning an ass load of calories while trudging up an infinitely long scree or ice slope with a heavy pack in clear but COLD ASS weather at High Altitude I end up removing a couple of layers of upper body clothing, often down to my long sleeve 100% Merino wool ICEBREAKER base layer top. Of course the instant you stop you better layer up as you cool down by degrees or you might freeze your dick off. But the most miserable weather is Cold WET at High Altitude or Low. And then again Wind Chill is a far faster way to get hypothermia than a minor elevation change in any cold weather situation especially a COLD WET one. What I am talking about is a possible glitch or something not properly scaled as of yet. We all know about cold clear days!! But at the same altitude a cold clear sunny bright day isn't jack shit compared to one that is Cold, Windy, Overcast and Raining. Some of the most miserable cold wet days can be found in Red River Gorge KY. And the Pacific North West where I often play has plenty of shitty Cold, Windy, Overcast and Raining days. RRG Ky.

    I am shaking...but!

I started to get cold near Vybor on a bright sunny day and Ran to Sinistock (3.9km distant). I was dressed in good warm gear and Energized Hydrated and Healthy) be that as it may I was mildly hypothermic by the time I got to Sinistock. I gathered the makings for a fire and went to a second story of a big house got a fire going and cooked and ate steaks until I was stuffed and warmed up....If I hadn't done that my character would have died... so running doesn't always work. apparently your condition can get glitched in and the actual weather/temp doesn't always match what you see. The Dev Team is on the right track , but I do declare that the system still needs some massaging.

    More ammo ASAP

Last night I started with two full magazines (AK101) and thirty five loose rounds. (95rnds) . a .357 with one speed loader and 46 loose rounds. and 40 rounds of 7.62x 39 After an hour or so of hunting for ammo I found: At the Jail at Bashnya (1 box of .357 (20rnds )and one box of 5.56. and an SKS The NWAF (3 20rnd boxes of 5.56 ), 1 empty AK101 Magazine, a box of .357 (20rnds and a speed Loader (6 rnds ), and a 20 round box of 7.62 x 51 A helicopter crash to the west of the NWAF 1ea 40rnd M4Magazine, 2ea 20 round M4Magazines, and one 10 round M4 magazine, and a frag grenade. I used up all but 7 rounds of the 7.62 x 39 ammo I had killing zombies in those locations so I ditched the gun as I hate carrying two rifles In the end I found a place to hunker down and I had 98 rounds of .357 & two speed loaders, and 245 rounds of 5.56 (90 rounds in magazines and 155 loose) another Grenade and 20 rounds of 7.62 x 51 (For that elusive Longhorn that I will eventually find). Is ammo really that hard to find? I guess it isn't if you move around the map a bit and look in the right places and accept that there might be some KoS types and plenty of Zeds around. It was fun because I added another 23 Zombie ears to my collection (I wish I could really do that and wear a zombie ear necklace).

    More ammo ASAP

An excellent sentiment DURRHUNTER. I think it is absurd for borges to be begging for more so that he can blaze away without skill or control (I assume). I have no real problem finding 'enough' Ammo and I wish there was a selector on the AKM and AK101 as their is on the M4A1 as I hate accidental doubles and triples. I like most others can get through quite a bit of gun play with one 30rnd magazine. To borges I say conserve the ammo you do have and remember bullets do not go where you wish they would go, they go where they are aimed. And it isn't supposed to be Easy borges Easy Games Suck! Now read the BOOK "The Postman" by David Brin borges and after you've done that report back to me for more counseling and remedial training (Don't watch the film it sucks) Ta! Ta!

    Server hoppers hogging loot

Dave, we all do that a bit (packing extra gear) and a protector case yields 6 slots but takes up 4. but as long as we are not hopping servers and spawning on top of loot spawns to corner the market there is no problem. And as far as the vests are concerned I have given away plenty of those to Noobs or New Spawns and friends that appear to be deserving of my assistance. The spare 8 slot UK vest that I drop usually holds, •a pistol with a magazine inserted (4 slots), •a spare magazine or box of bullets (1 slot), •rags 4ea (1 slot), •1 can of EZ open tuna (1 slot), •1 can of Rasputin Kvass OR Soda (1 slot) Guns & Ammo should take some work to find because of their obvious value in a survival situation. Wouldn't this be a good place for loot of all kinds to spawn? Of course there has to be a bogie and that bogie should be that you stink after rooting through a body dump..you'll have to wash up or risk a skin infection. Imagine an AN-12 or C-130 crashed in the forest with three or four loot spawning body dumps around it and some relief supplies, clothing, medcine, ammo, a weapons or two inside. Locations, many possible in the hinterland but seldom in the same location. 2 AN-12 and 1 C-130 per restart. And of course a good supply of Zeds watching over these windfall locations.

    Server hoppers hogging loot

You're probably right. I have nothing against ammunition but with that said perhaps concentrating weapons and ammunition by type and quantity in a few specific location acts as the sweet smell of a turd to a cloud of drooling shit flies. It seems to me that only if the players know exactly where the loot spawns are is server hopping a profitable enterprise. If they have to create many more random loot spawns like the helicopters in the form of over turned trucks, damaged landing craft, a crashed C-130 or an AN-12, ruined civ and military vehicles, abandoned UN and Chernarian check points etc etc etc. Not having a known and potentially lucrative and easy target to hop to takes away the incentive. And at the same time spreading wealth across the entire map will make people spread out and search instead of hunkering down in a barracks or Jail to suck up easy loot. Have some Beans :beans:

    Server hoppers hogging loot

I agree a public scum sucker list would be a great thing. Unfortunately my son was so busy going through that clowns gear and throwing it around the area that he didn't get a name. At least the next guy that went into that shower room before server reset was a happy man. Have some Beans :beans:

    Better starting kit

I consider the flashlight and battery to be particularly useless but there is no need to start a player with anything beyond a couple of items. Someone mentioned (AlfaphaCat) )that those items should be randomly generated from a list of near useless items and I agree. Have some Beans AlfaphaCat :beans: But lets be realistic: Female characters should be built like women and spawn in pink tank tops, shorts and tennis shoes. And their gear should be 1 lipstick and 1 Mascara. Male characters should spawn in what they wear now and their gear should be 1 unpaid rent bill and 1 ticket for a free drink at a pub that he will never see again.

Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

How about the ability to do this guys: and this would be swell Both would be swell for Zeds and other players Bit I want one of these as well: Assaulting Novodmitrovsk Or we could understand that The survivors in Chernarus would really be armed with a hodgepodge of civilian and military weapons and the game isn't supposed to be a military dress up game for dweebs. OK I wear all military gear in the game but only because they blend in a bit and most importantly have lots of pockets. Civilian outwear exists that would do quite nicely.

Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

Damn you people think small! Here is what I want so that I can control the coastal zone and blast any point in Chernarus at will. And as a kicker I want some 14" VX Nerve gas rounds. USS Tennessee in its post Pearl Harbor (1944) iteration. But in the spirit of The former Soviet Block I'll settle for this
  21. Xbow

How did you first taste blood?

When I first started playing I was shot and killed a number of times immediately after spawning on the coast, Then got killed after I put together a decent kit while attempting to trade, that happened again. It was then that I started to avoid other players except when an opportunity presented itself to exact revenge from anyone that I could lay my sights on. Electro turned out to be an excellent and target rich environment. I made no distinction, unequipped players, half equipped players and fully equipped players were all viable targets. I've mellowed a bit these days but I still avoid other players if I can. If not I shoot first and ask questions later.
  22. The same situation exists with the AK101 and AKM with PSO-1 scopes. Its NOT a game breaking bug is just a little bug. Besides that do you really plan on standing up and walking forward with your face in a scope and be 100% exposed in the middle of a firefight? Pop goes the walking weasel! The Mosin itself is a bug as it far too accurate as it is. At 800 yards it should have a un-correctable random dispersion pattern at least 1 meter in diameter. and no the type of scope it is equipped with should NOT improve the weapons accuracy. There are worse things in the game such as with .49 the Zombies are not as aggressive, as numerous, alert, or quick to re-spawn and maintain a target lock on you as they were in .48. But they are not glitch hitting from a distance as they were in .48 and that's good. The fact is the zeds are better with .49 and the Devs will scale the threat they pose soon enough. A game breaking bug is one that completely eliminates your ability to play the game.
  23. Come on Legio23 I hear tell that DURHUNTER takes on Cape Buffalo with a .22 revoilver and his Rambo knife. He's a legend!!! But in any case I use a .45-70 Marlin lever action carbine on hogs and my 1911 with hardball ammunition as a backup. When dealing with hogs in the Brush I wan't something that will anchor them to the deck QUICK.
  24. I found one w/o a visor and the instant I find another pristine Kevlar helmet I'll toss the Gorka helmet into a ditch. YES! I've heard that it is indeed only effective against melee attacks and that a .22 will punch through the thing and Kill your ass instantly. That's why I am dumping it. And even without the Visor it looks like a refugee from a bad 1950's Sci Fi film...butt ugly. .
  25. Xbow

    The "ruined" status must go.

Perhaps you are right, and I must stand corrected. I have some German Flectar gear that I use when hog hunting in heavy brush and so far they have survived for ten years with only minor repairs. My old pre digital USMC woodland camouflage jackets and trousers are even tougher but the camo pattern sucks compared to Flectar so they don't get used much. And This mountaineering pack I have had since 1996 and have restitched a few seams and repaired some abrasions but it is as good today as it was when new. I just bought a new Cold-Cold World Chernobyl like mine as a present for my son for about $200.00 (That should take care of his mountaineering needs into his middle years. And I also agree that a few hits from a Zombie shouldn't wreck a Gorka jacket and trousers and everything they contain. I also consider a bastard file, whetstone, and heavy duty sewing kit needed additions. Part of survival is maintaining your kit...so to the Devs I say, let us maintain it. Have some beans Sir :beans:
