U.S.A. (Western) temporary military base site for western military goods
Xbow replied to rickyonsteam's topic in Suggestions
I think its pretty good right now but I feel your pain. when the .45 patch went in I looked for a long time to find an AKM and when I did I made the switch at that time and traded my M4 to a friend for some gear, morphine and ak mags. Well, the AKM sucked balls compared to the M4. I ditched the AK after I found an SKS and hunted and found three un-looted helicopters in many hours of running around all over the map. In no more than six to eight hours I had an M4, a pristine ACOG, upgraded stock and hand guard, 4 x 40 round mags, 2 x 60 round mags a 30 round mag and 60 loose rounds for the can and a BUIS. I'm packed again. I have everything i need. But I know what you are saying there should be more areas that spawn western military gear. I think those should be at three or four random NATO road blocks where m4 stuff can be found and two or three UN-CDC camps that spawn drugs and medical gear. if they need to fix something its the agro radius on some zombies. Just today going by a small town at around 300 yards distance three of them detected me while I was squatting in a bush and headed for me at Olympic sprinter speed. I popped them easily with the amphibian when they got close but seriously I was moving carefully from tree to tree in a crouch. Its weird sometimes you can walk up behind them and bash their brains in with a splitting ax. But what the hell its all good. I also had a clown with an SKS and a PU scope bust some caps at me and I ventilated him in seconds with my M4..the M4 is the best. Then I hid his corpse to prevent him from recovering any of his gear. I say stay off scaffolding and high buildings those things have killed me more than KoS dick heads and snipers combined and there is never any cool loot up there that I can't do without. -
Shouldn't zombies also bleed to death eventually?
Xbow replied to sketch814's topic in General Discussion
Not necessarily true. Many critters operate on an anaerobic metabolic system where there is no blood flow and no circulatory system Aerotolerant organisms, which cannot use oxygen for growth, but tolerate its presence.Facultative anaerobes, which can grow without oxygen but use oxygen if it is present. <----this The things that really support your position are that shots to the thorax (lungs heart etc) are lethal to zombies AND they have endurance that is nearly equal to humans. But there is nothing to say that the virus itself couldn't amplify in areas where wounds have been created and form a sort of biological bandage. But yes if they do have respiration and blood flow then once a critical amount of damage has been delivered they should bleed out. For my money its better not to investigate the zombification mechanism too closely lest you enter a circular argument that leads nowhere. -

Xbow replied to sketch814's topic in General Discussion
Incorrect. First. It doesn't take much of a strike to cause bleeding, and a zombie trying to claw, bite and whack you is not going to take more serious damage than you from attacking you. What should be true is that breaking a zombies legs via shooting or chopping should reduce the zombies movement rate to a crawl. Yes zombies do need their legs to move around on. -

No! Zombies do not rely on blood to transport oxygen nor do they breathe. Apparently their bodies operate on some sort of anaerobic mechanism. Ask Dr. Logan AKA Frankenstein -
deebz1234 This is the funny part, "m4's are for CQ and new players. pray and spray." I guess you don't know how to press the "T" key to put the M4A1 into semi automatic mode do you lad. (Now, that's funny). I like the M4 better than I like the SKS but I stayed with an SKS for a long while before I switched to the M4. I now have an AKM because of ammunition availability but the M4A1 is even superior to that pill launcher. But the weapons are very comparable except the AKM has more sight displacement upon firing than the M4 just as the SKS does. And all three weapons have just about the same effective range with the SKS taking up third place. You don't really think the SKS is a long range weapon like a Mosin (or the SVD will be when it arrives) do you? Besides that the PU scope is a piece of trash compared to an ACOG, PSO or Long Range Scope. Some Advice for you deebz1234 Just because you apparently lack the discipline to handle a select fire weapon is no reason to assume that others are debilitated in the way that you appear to be. The M4 is a Pray and spray weapon...my dying arse.

I hope you're right. Unfortunately in my case the changes have caused me to trust other players even less. I was haunting the big airfield looking for a knife. There I shot two other players on sight while they were looting the tent city area as I was out of the fear that starting over would be a real beyatch and I wouldn't be having my M4A1 & ACOG set up. It seems like an AKM and a PSO scope would be a hard to find and not entirely equal replacement. So for now I am in paranoid self defense mode. Normally I avoid contact with other players and do not shoot on sight and now I will avoid contact and shoot on sight. One thing really needs to be fixed and that is spawning in a standing exposed and completely helpless condition sucks. If player fails to find a safe place to spawn I have no mercy but if a player gets the imminent shut down message while making a dash across a field and re-spawns standing in the open and gets greased that's a bad deal. The default posture for re-spawning should be the prone position. I shot a player by accident because I guess the dude spawned by a barracks and I was looking into the sun and assumed that he was a zombie so in my ignorance I riddled the poor paralyzed fucker.

Lost Faith in the Game?..Heck No!! But after the latest update I am at a loss with respect to how to find 5.56mm ammunition...7.62 x 39 is apparently the gold standard now and the AK47 the queen of battle. Apparently 5.56mm will only be available at crashed helicopter loot spawns and finding those before they are stripped is going to be a real bugger. And crashed chopper locations will now become bait that will draw survivors into the hasty kill zones of sniper clowns. I don't know if this is a problem but I have seen a lot of 7.62 x39 ammo in boxes and in 30round AK magazines but no AK's. I did not lose my M4A1, ammo or 40rnd magazines as some have but I think the days of over kill and automatic fire are over for that weapon. So there are problems such as the upgraded binoculars suddenly taking up 4 slots in your inventory (2 x 2) as opposed to 1. The change caused me to lose my extra compass, a new can opener, and a 9mm magazine. But the upside is that the binoculars now work correctly in the prone, crouched, and standing positions. All in all a good trade. Another upside is that It was cool to see a deer and a hog that I could have killed but didn't as I couldn't have cooked the meat. I think the development team is doing a fine job and not only have I not lost faith I am enthused by the methodical progress they are making.

"Just let us mod the game and release the server files. We will create basebuilding ourselves." That is a terrible Idea. I don't think big permanent player bases are a good idea at all. What I think would be excellent are personal caches that can be created with a shovel, some stones, and up to two large protector cases that have 28 slots (7x4) each. Such a case could accomodate a MosinNagant (7x3) and 7 slots for gear, OR an M4A1 (5x3) and 13 slots for gear, OR an SKS, Shotgun, Double Rifle (6X3) etc and 10 slots for gear and supplies. The Cache once buried could be concealed and booby trapped . The Cache could however be discovered and unearthed and broken into at the expense of ruining the case and some of the gear inside if the trap is set off and of course deliver some considerable damage to the 'lucky guy' or if considerable force is used to break into the case. If you the owner get killed the case gets ransacked and some considerable portion of your extra gear is lost and the case ruined. Note: Large protector case can only be carried in hands or carried on your back in place of a backpack while you are transporting it. And of course carrying a hard case reduces your speed to a maximum of a moderate jogging pace. Now if you do takeover a feed shack, small cabin or whatever is allowed and Zombie & Bandit proof it with planks, corrugated iron, chain link fencing, bear traps, barbed wire, tripwires sand bags or whatever a strong crew of Zombies should still be able to get in by repeatedly attacking the doors and windows and Bandits might decide to smoke you out and chop through doors with fire axes and execute a home invasion attack. In any case it would make for some cool action. Imagine a crew of home invading bandits trying to take over your teams crash pad and they in turn get attacked by a strong mob of zombies. Just kick back with a cold Kvass, some recreational pharmaceuticals and watch the Chinese fire drill and pick off a few bandits. Just an idea.

gqren wrote, "Well, bandits are a part of this game, but god damn do I hate being killed on sight for no good reason. And no, survival isn't one. You don't need other peoples things to survive in this - not yet, anyways" I agree its too easy to get equipped to bother with stealing from others ....it takes me about two hours of playing time to gear up well enough to get moving and party down against (player) shyte bags when I have too. IMHO shoot on sight jerks degrade the game. They have certainly degraded the game for me. Initially I attempted to render greetings and assist others but after losing five or six poorly or completely unequipped characters and three very well equipped characters to snakes I changed my MO. Now, if a player has a ranged weapon slung or in hand, could possibly see me or is moving in my general direction bullets are on the way to his/her skull instantly. Yes I now shoot nearly all the ranged weapon armed folks on sight unless they are moving away from me. So thanks to the Jerks, I have become part of the problem I guess. However any dork that is sporting a clown mask gets killed on sight and riddled after he/she is down so that all their gear is ruined so that they will return to nothing. (I never loot the corpses of those I have eliminated, its too dangerous in the open and usually I am packed with plenty of my own ammo, chow, gear and loot. And all I wanted to do in the beginning is scavenge a bit to survive, explore, interface with other survivors, share a little excess gear with new spawns and hunt Zombies for sport. (too bad Zombie ears aren't a universal form of currency). I want a Zombie ear necklace!!

For my money these are the best from a storage efficiency and nutrition standpoint. Rice, 2 vertical slots ,374 calories per serving, 10 servings per bag essentially it provides 1870cal per slot..the most concentrated food in the game. The downside is you will have to drink a full canteen of water with it. Water, easiest item to get. One canteen equals 1000ml Powdered Milk, 1 slot, 992 Cal/bag, 10 servings (99cal per serv) needs 400ml of water to go with it or it drops you hydration level. . Rasputin Kvass, 1 slot, water 330ml, 142 calories and according to the wiki Kvass replenishes blood faster than water. A word about Rice and Powdered milk . With their absorbency of 90% it seems that they can be damaged by water. Generally I store 3 bags of rice in a small protector case in my back pack and my powdered milk in my pack as well. My motto is whatever food you find it grab it and eat it or drink it to keep your hydration and energy up all the time. I have been led to believe that the more energized and hydrated you are the more resistant to damage you are. When I get pummeled by zombies and start bleeding and more are incoming I shoot the ones I need to shoot and then run like a scalded dog to a place of safety bandage and then hydrate and energize until I am full. Bon Appete Question: Does mashing down on F3 key to Rest do anything other than call an animation?

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

Strawman wrote, "Yeah, I know it's 15 x 15, but I was pretty sure that they didn't count the "sea grids into that" (not that it's that much sea on the map anyway). But ok, if you say so. Back on topic." I could be wrong strawman but its a minor point. So Strawman, have you noticed that many of the Zombies are hauling ass and can beat a healthy, energized and hydrated player in a foot race these days? And from the tests I have run just today this is especially true of the black jacket and Military Zombies. I don't think zombies should be faster than players myself...after all death and resurrection should mean some degradation of their mobility and strength. Today I was Zombie sniping from the forested hills and rocks to the North of the Svetlojarsk port facility. I watched a female zombie from a crouched position while hidden by a tree. While I watched with my binoculars the zombie bitch didn't move and was staring to North West. I backed up slowly into a tree and switched to my M4 with ACOG and then crept forward. I was still hidden by the tree and at a range of a bit over 400 meters but as soon as my sights settled on the Fem Zombie it activated went into a rage and ran towards me. I took two or three shots to hit it and bring it down. Do a zombies senses sharpen when you are pointing a weapon at them? Strange. What is your take on the post patch Zombies? -

Strawman wrote: "I'm not sure that the sea part of the map is counted in that assessment. I do however know that, having traveled pretty much all of the map, you can play the game on all of it." The Map is a 15km X 15km (225 sq kilometers) grid and that includes the ocean areas. And yes you can play the whole map the ocean too if you don't mind swimming Cheers : ) -

Strawman wrote, "225 square kilometers to be exact" NOPE!! Your assessment of the area of the land over which the game can be played is incorrect The MAP encompasses a 225 square kilometer area but that is NOT the same thing as the area of Land Mass on which the game is played that I was talking about. As a matter of fact there are about 50 or 60 square kilometers of OCEAN displayed on the map on which game play can not take place except for swimming...zombies can't swim. To elucidate. 225sqKm MINUS 50 or 60 SqKm = 165 to 175 SqKm of playable area. Which reminds me you should have the ability to find and use WP bags to protect your delicate items from, water damage while swimming. Salt water Immersion apparently ruined two sacks of rice on my epic but fruitless swim to Skalisty Island. -
Zombies should not be elevated in any way other than in their numbers really. They are unthinking, have no social structure, and are connected only by their common desire to kill and consume the living animal or human. They should have no remembrance of their past life. Zombies should fight over a kill when a lot of them are trying to feed on one kill. Should they be tougher to kill? Perhaps so. However If you break a zombies leg or cripple its body with shots to the torso and legs it should go down but still crawl after you but not die..Their final death should be via a barrage of punches, one or two blows to the head with a hammer, knife/bayonet, machete, pipe wrench, ax, bat OR rifles with strong butt stocks such as a Mosin, SKS, Shotgun, Double rifle, M-14, AK-47 etc, OR or a thrust from a rifle mounted bayonet OR one shot to the brain. Only a percentage (20%?) of Zombies should be sprinters the rest should move more slowly as in a medium speed shuffle. For the most part Zombies should obey the Romero rule for the undead, "Zombies are weaker, slower, and less coordinated than the living but they are fearless, relentless, have strength in numbers and are highly resistant to torso damage. Zombies should be able to climb stairs but not ladders. Zombies should not be able to open doors unless by attacking it and breaking it. Players should have the ability to climb trees with the aid of pole climbing spikes, rope, and a sit harness. If you have a harness you should be able to rest and log out in safety. As for ropes their soundness and safety should be based on their condition and a rope should only take up two vertical slots in the inventory or be worn outside the pack except for the child's pack.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

Zombies, Zombies, Zombies.. Sovetsky wrote: "once pathing it fixed zombies should be made a real danger with massively increased damge, knockout potential, etc. however they need to make stealth work too. crawling prone for example should not get you aggro from 150m+ when in grassy fields. Making them dangerous, but avoidable will put more emphasis on things like bows, mele, and suppressed fire arms and reward cautions play over run n gun." I agree 100% except Zombies do quite enough damage as it is. I had a fully energized, hydrated, and healthy character in a press vest and a motorcycle helmet killed instantly with one double maul attack from a military zombie after I had hit it in the head five times with a machete. I just had to NOT USE my .45 or M4. Luckily I spawned on the beach very close to my corpse and got the bulk of my gear back. They need to make protective gear work a bit better before they think about 'massively' jacking up the damage a zombie does. Be that as it may we need MORE zombies of the high performance type and the stumbling shuffling type as well. I would venture to guess that a ratio of two or three fast energetic hard hitting runners to six walkers would be about right. Yes, we need runners and walkers both. The complaints about too much Spawning are absurd since Spawning is the only way to simulate the fact that Zombies would make up >= 95% of the population of Chernarus. I would imagine that Chernarus has at least 165 square kilometers of navigable land so If we use the population density of the Czech Republic as a base that comes to about 125 or 130 zombies per square kilometer if evenly distributed.. But they wouldn't realistically be distributed in that way, They would be concentrated in the cities and towns. The total zombie population would be something over 20,000 with ~15,000 of those residing in the vicinity of towns and cities and 5,000 roaming in wilderness and farmland areas. And having more zombies has other beneficial effects as well: 1) it takes the ball away from the folks that see the game as Arma II with a few harmless zombies running around where they can pursue a cowardly and self indulgent career of banditry and sniping in a gratuitous player vs player extravaganza of blood. 2) More zombies gives ALL the players a common enemy that they had better pay attention to or get chewed up. I would say zombies should be even more formidable. How about a body shot can knock a zombie down for ten seconds and slow it to a walker's pace until it is killed and a walker hit in the body will be inert for 30 seconds but it takes a head shot to send either to its final repose. -
Is it worth buying Dayz standalone yet? [With Developer responses]
Xbow replied to Blade4777980's topic in General Discussion
TWIMC I'm no Developer but I think the Alpha is worth the $30.00. Are there problems sure and that is the case for any dynamic system that is in development. Hopefully the millions in sales will help to fuel the development. This game you have created is non linear and immersive to the Nth degree. I have had more chair jumpers with this game than the sum total of all the other games I have played combined. I am sure the end product will put the Alpha to shame. Please take your time guys and keep marching! Note: One thing I would like to see is the ability to lock and bar doors so that when the zombies figure out how to march up stairs you might have a chance to bandage up hydrate and energize enough to buck up and fight your way out of the building.
