Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Xbow replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Unknowing Indeed!! WTF Indeed! Only non readers could possibly be 'unknowing testers'. But since those poor souls don't know that they are urged to report bugs every time they log on any observations they might have made will not be reported to the proper party. I have a feeling that their 'unknowing test reports' consist of crying on this forum because DayZ isn't just like COD with Zombies. But I don't want to think of those Unknowing Testers anymore RAM-bo4250. Today is a happy day because I finally found a Longhorn and rounded up a couple of boxes of 7.62 x 51 at the NW airfield (I wish they correct the designation to 7.62 x 54r). Its nothing in the grand scheme of things but I bagged a trio of Military type zombies near the triangle military base with the Longhorn at estimated ranges of +125m, 100m, 75m and they all fell nicely. Timber! Straight back eyes to the sky.with a single shot each. -

1) Um.....I don't think so. 2) Nope. It just means that a guy with a CZ527 a magazine or two, a shot gunner or, a Blaze man with snap loaders is the new boss. You'd end up with crews of two or three shooters supporting five or six Axe and Machete men that roam the countryside hunting other players for their gear, food, weapons and ammo. 3) Nah! less of everything will just make banditry, KoS and even Cannibalism a necessity for everyone. In a 'The Road' or 'Book Of Eli' DayZ world they might as well make it possible for you to skin and quarter player corpses to get some 'long pork' steaks that can be chased down with plastic bottles filled with blood and alcohol. Stalingrad "Living conditions on the ground in Stalingrad were unimaginably terrible, at the beginning of the battle, a regular Red Army conscript had a life expectancy of just 24 hours, this increased marginally if you were a Soviet officer to around 3 days. The Soviets initially after being caught on the back foot, had to endure hardships that today we would find hard to comprehend, cannibalism was a common occurrence amongst the starving and besieged populace. Rats became a staple of most peoples protein intake, soldiers and citizens alike would go around picking dead horses clean of meat." -

Military weapons are desired because they aid your survival better than civilian types. And because vast quantities of military weapons and ammunition were procured they are both more common than civilian types. If you want to make military weapons less available allow them to degrade if they are not taken care of properly...the corrosive primers of Eastern European ammunition will eat a weapon alive with enough time and stupidity on the part of the operator. Springs and small parts of weapons will indeed break and need replacement all the time. Weapons cleaning kits, lubricants, and small arms repair kits made from the internals stripped from say an AKM you found and need only for spare parts is a good idea. But that won't and shouldn't slow down the demand for and acquisition of military weapons in DayZ. And it might be good to remember that with just AK pattern weapons something on the order of two hundred million were made world wide. One AK type for every thirty five to forty people on the planet, and that's just one basic type of military weapon. Actually there are probably enough modern military shoulder weapons on the planet to have one military weapon for every fifteen to twenty people. It is the civilian weapons and the ammunition they use that would be rare. And then there is the fact that If there were no military weapons in the game that would not slow down the PvP action at all. -

Damage soak is a good way to put it. If the Zeds are destroying your gear with their attacks they are not damaging you. The hits you get nailed with after you've killed a Zed that is far out of striking range for it are perplexing and are my one real complaint. I guess it has something to do with De-Sync,Ping time, and that all attacks with a gun or melee are really projectile attacks. While I am playing I always hit 'P' to check my De-Sync and avoid servers that initially have Ping Time over 100. If Rubber banding occurs at all I am off to a hiding spot and another server. You have a fresh can of Beans in your pack by the way CJFlint wrote, "But its maybe a work around just to pick a server with low ping......How much of the bugs we are seeing regarding zombie weirdness (invis, going through walls, hitting at long rang) and have to do with bandwidth and server ping?? Is that all it is?" I think a great many of the problems are directly related to bandwidth and server ping as you have suggested. As for working around it this has worked for me I think. It seems that the more lag in the system there is the more problems you can expect. Like I said when I start rubber banding, lag is present and weird effects are in evidence I haul ass to another server with better stats. You also have a fresh can of Beans in your pack. An amusing Video. But I guess this is about Nav Mesh and RagDoll???? -

Yea verily I say unto thee that In the beginning the people did say unto the lords of creation that Zombies were too weak and too few in numbers, couldn't climb stairs and could clip through walls. And the lords heard the anguished cries of the people and bestowed faster, stronger and more numerous stair climbing and re-spawning Zeds upon the people along with a new race of hopper Zombies. Now the weaker tribes of Chernarus say unto the lords of creation that the Zeds are over powered and hit too hard (snivel) and are too fast and spawn too fast. Well cry me a river what happens when every wound that causes bleeding imparts the Zed-Virus to the player that must be treated with a vile player made concoction of dreaded blue berries, antibiotics, tincture of alcohol and a canteen of purified water several times to purge the infection? Hell the first time a crew of Zeds followed me up to the top floor of a piano house looking for trouble it was an excellent chair jumper and even if I got hit a few times and bled I had no problem dispatching them with my FNX45 and making my escape while being chased by three new Zeds when I got outside. Hint: Don't get caught by Zeds while kneeling as that makes the damage they do center on the head and upper body. Hint: Don't expect a ballistic helmet to protect you much against Zombie hits to the grape and do dress for the likely threat and carry both a motorcycle helmet and a ballistic helmet. Hint: Store your most valuable shit in your pack and cargo pants and do store your shit in protector cases. Hint: When you kill a Zed its spawned replacement (2nd gen) can see you from 600yards away as opposed to the 100 yards for a 1st generation Zed. This is shit everyone knows. Are Zombies perfect? No! Are they improving Yes. Give it some time before you break out the violins. -

I am out for myself -
I just scavenged a chopper a bit earlier today. I felt I was hanging around a honey pot so I searched it quickly and I felt as if I had a long range scopes reticle crawling on my back. But, I scored a bit of needed loot and hauled ass to cover. I didn't find an M4A1 and I'm not sure I want one anymore given the AKM & PSO-1, along with the large quantity 7.62 x 39 and number of AKM magazines I have. Switching back to an M4A1just doesn't make sense for me at the moment.

On stable First Person I tried to replicate the Drink All and hit the Dirt effect on two occasions but nothing strange or untoward happened. I was already kneeling and i was in a flat forest area. Be that as it may I do plan on staying away from ledges and railings when I drink from my canteen. No sense in testing the fates.

Bohemia has never seriously optimized their games.
Xbow replied to gaerteuth's topic in General Discussion
That's evidence?, I don't give a damn about helicopters being in the game or not but in any game that strives for even a modicum of realism would include controls that simulate the birds cyclic and collective controls and the anti torque pedals. The minimum instruments would include an artificial Horizon, rotor speed indicator, RPM, power output indicator, fuel indicator, air speed indicator, gyro compass, VOR, and an Altimeter. In other words a full light simulator. 1) The Tail Rotor Pedals counteract the rotation of the aircraft about the Z axis caused by the rotors (until enough aerodynamic forces have built up to counteract that rotation. 2) The cyclic stick controls the tilt of the rotor plane and hence the direction of travel and may include a trigger for forward firing weapons. 3) The collective lever controls the throttle and the pitch of the blades and includes friction devises to lock the pitch and throttle into desired settings. Flying a chopper is nothing at all like flying a stable fixed wing aircraft or driving a truck, bike or quad. Helicopters are not stable aircraft and without the pilots complete attention, and constant control inputs they really want to fall out of the sky. If you found a helicopter I hope you also find a flight manual and a service and repair manual with it. And unless you find a source of Jet Fuel you will have to make it by mixing high grade kerosene (30%-40%) with Gasoline 60%-70% .Good luck. Motorcycles, Bicycles, quad-runners, junk cars, and beat up light trucks are what is needed not hard to maintain and operate Helicopters. . GIVE THE GUYS AND GALS AT BOHEMIA A BREAK THEY ARE DOING THINGS THAT YOU SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO UNDERSTAND.. -

Why...........(movement and avatar control)
Xbow replied to creativecole's topic in General Discussion
I agree, and I suppose that someone ought to tell good old creativecole that Day Z is not primary a bang bang PvP shoot-em-up for ID-10-Ts . Its a a survival game with a number of elements. Why...................... :( -
A 180 deg death scene, that morphs into, your body being looted by leering humans or being consumed by slobbering Zombies, and that is followed by crows pecking away at you as flies buzz all over the place and hop up and down on your eyeballs. Then a time lapse series of you rotting away to a picked clean skeleton. Hmmmmmm......All that work so that a few people can watch it once and thereafter hit 'Esc' and bypass that SHIT. Nope!! let the devs work on things that are important instead of wasting time and effort on ridiculous crap "you are dead" is just fine. They should be working on my scoped Jungle Carbine
-
I agree 100%. Its just Jim Dandy the way it is.

CZ527 Rifles and magazines are no longer rare, I've found the rifles in Piano Houses, the city hall tower in Novo (top floors), a police station, the ship wreck, Large orange brick buildings, and the Traffic control tower of the NEAF. The magazines are to found in abundance at the NWAF tent city (I found three in one tent and two in another on the same run).

Dayz Standalone is lacking a huge core piece in my eyes.
Xbow replied to Zanders's topic in General Discussion
I suggest that you pull your head out of that dark place and learn the controls as they are. Gee wiz mister wizard are you so uncoordinated and forgetful that you can't manage the controls? IATYQ ,Do the hot keys work all the time? No, just >=90% of the time. I have never been killed as a result of the hot keys. When I get greased its generally because I screwed up, was tired, not paying attention, or wasn't fast enough on the trigger. If your controls are messing up on you haul ass hide log out and return the the same server. LAME players like to blame the controls, zombies spawning too fast, or anything other than their own bumbling and ineptitude for their failures. Sitting in the corner and whining about problems with a game that is in Alpha is like a little girl squealing about wanting another cookie. In short deal with it or shove off for a few months and come back when the game is more refined. -

Xbow replied to Zanders's topic in General Discussion
Your comment "Less is no more, MORE is more" sounds like a refugee from a cheap fortune cookie and begs the question, "More of What?" Do you maintain that any addition to a game is good because it is MORE? How absurd! If DayZ isn't right for you then perhaps you should shove off and find a canned linear save the world game that doesn't require any thought to navigate. I second Caboose187's motion! Is Caboose187 correct when he alluded to your possible need of a ridged set of canned missions, tasks, and quests to hold your hand through a game? Sorry charlie those kind of games are BORING...... they are the PAST. Some people like games that are not dumb, comfortable, predictable, and shallow no matter how visually stunning they might be or how many freebies the players get handed to them. Dumb is Dumb! Shame on you for wanting to make DayZ LESS than it is and can be. Honestly I'm surprised that the notion of imagination went over your head by such a large degree sport because connecting with a players imagination is the key to immersion and a primary goal of game designers. http://www.edge-online.com/features/how-player-interaction-makes-dayz-a-fascinating-social-experiment/ Absurd comment of the day, "With no vehicles to fix or helicopters as endgame, combined with broken controls and broken zombies....The game feels freaking empty." 1) The Zombies are not broken IMHO they are simply not perfect (yet). Do you deny that strides have been made as a result of NavMesh for path finding? SO you claim that the addition of Hoppers, increased aggression, persistence and re-spawning have not added a new dimension to the game? 2) I have no serious problems with the controls Empty??? Use your imagination if you have one sport and gather some allies together and clear out a nest of Jerks in Electro or Berezino on a crowded server. You'll need some AK or M4 men, snipers, a medic and a Leader..now you have a mission..get hot. And by the way what makes you think that the average Joe in the game could master the flight controls of a realistic virtual Helicopter? And tell me how is the mere possession of a damn helicopter an endgame event? How would that go? You get the chopper up and running, you've learned to fly it, located parts for it, you've repaired it, serviced it, fully fueled it and then you fly off to never never land outside the quarantine zone to live happily ever after? Or will you get shot down by the UN and burn to death because you didn't have the right code loaded into the IFF system when you tried to penetrate their restricted airspace? . -

Forget about it Caboose187 you can't win an argument with a two year old as too many things appear to be beyond the subject in questions grasp. You were spot on with this Caboose187, "Again, over your head. This is not an objective based game that has npc's with exclamation marks over their head indicating a mission. You create, understand that word? Create your own objectives." Sadly he doesn't understand at all bro. I think he really needs a very linear game that doesn't require much thought to be happy. I guess some people just need to be taken by the hand and led through a sequence of quests and checks in the box to some ultimate hardwired goal. I wonder if it sticks in his craw that ammo, weapons and health drugs (stimpacks) don't have floating icons over their positions or simply rain from the sky. An objective for me might be to replace ruined jacket, Helmet, and UK Vest and get into and out of the areas that spawn them unscathed. Another Objective might be for me to lay some gear on a new spawn, A worn UK vest that is loaded with a 9mm pistol, a extra magazine, a box of ammo and a kitchen knife will put a smile on a New Spawns face. That I won't receive any +Karma points from the game means Nothing to me. When I have done that I am just repaying a debt to the folks that have helped me in that way...its enough that I know that I did something good for a change. I admire groups like 'The Samaritans' and they most certainly do CREATE their own objectives. hothtimeblues I agree a mountain bike that gives you the ability to carry an extra 35 slots (7 x 5) worth of gear would be great and simple to maintain. Of course Persistence on a server and the ability to hide and camouflage it would be mandatory. Tools & Gear: Cargo bags, Tire repair kit, pump, pliers, wrench and screwdriver. -

Great Post BadAsh 1) I agree 100% and to be honest getting a vehicle running that has been sitting for a long while isn't all that easy. Tires rot, Fuel degrades rapidly, Batteries are dead, rodents chew on wiring harnesses, hydraulic fluid drains away, seals degrade, Crank Case oil turns to sludge, fuel and Oil filters clog. It should be one hell of a lot of work to get a car or truck running and a lot of work keeping it running. But if you did that you would have accomplished something even if the destructible nature of a car or truck makes them something of a temporary fix. 2) Very well said  3) Indeed, interaction with other players is the key not things. 4) Again very well said  About interaction, I had just been sent to the coast by a big crew of zombies that jumped me and lost all my nice gear. Some guy on the coast said fuck these snipers and bandits and together we formed The New Spawn Army. Very quickly we had a force of about ten and went about chasing down fully geared players of the bandit and KoS type in Electro with pitch forks shovels crowbars and a few guns etc. We all had a blast got killed re-spawned and went back into action. It was amazing how lame some of the "I wanna play military dress up" guys are when trying to deal with a mob of zigzagging and constantly moving New Spawns that are intent on beating the crap out of KoS clowns noob hunters and bandits. It was one of the best times I ever had playing DayZ SA and I had nothing. Sometimes the more shit you have the less enjoyment you have. No cars boats and trucks will not up the fun meter. Ambushing folks in cars is going to be fine sport and every smoking wreck and pile of bodies will be an accomplishment. (unless the guys in the cars are of a decent sort) allow me to share my favorite DayZ video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtvoFXxD0bs -

You appear to be so 'articulate' that you can't steer clear of direct insults and that is just about as dumb as dirt. Your constant use of direct Insults (Homer = Idiot) points to the dire possibility that you have a touch of NPD working against you. Tell me, why do budding Narcissists lash out the way you do and in such a crude and stupid fashion? You wrote, "I said there's no ACCOMPLISHABLE objective",..... I'm sorry but that comment is just plain stupid. Kid your day to day survival is an ACCOMPLISHMENT in and of itself. Do you have the capacity to understand anything? You also wrote, "Surviving is the objective to this game, but it is not something that can be accomplished." You are generating pure drool here buddy and that you are unaware of it is very amusing. Learn how to think kid. I suggest that you go back to playing Ecco the Dolphin or whatever it is that trips your little trigger. -

You are whining like a two year old that lost his little cookie. You ask, who is crying? Well, you are crying. Who wrote these immortal words, "we did pay money for a game" "We paid money to PLAY a game", "We did NOT invest in the development of a game", And that was in one paragraph that YOU wrote. And pray tell why would anyone be paranoid about what a Little Lisa has to say about DayZ? There is no objective? News flash!! in a survival game surviving is the OBJECTIVE. -
I think you have it just about right Barnabus. I was on a server today with a pop of 21/30 and I was 2.4 clicks to the North West of Gvozdno near a feed shack looking for a place to punch out. I was hearing zombie sounds for a couple of minutes as if it was close to me and it had me spooked. Perhaps someone was getting chased in Gvozdno and I was hearing it...I dunno. I can live with it without complaint. Years ago I decided to climb Mount Williamson in the Sierras solo. After the first day I was hearing all kinds of shit at night voices, foot steps random sounds etc. No one climbs Williamson from the East as its one of the most abandoned areas in California...it was all in my head,.I call them aural hallucinations. There was probably not another human being within ten miles of me, contact with the one dangerous animal up there (Mountain Lion) is very, very, VERY unlikely and I slept with my 9mm in my hand. And, that was the end of my aborted solo Mountaineering career. So those random in game sounds are very realistic with respect to how your mind wanders and invents shit when you are alone and isolated. I don't think that will happen (Thousands of zombies). But as it is the longer you stay in an infested town the more re-spawned zombies will appear as you kill them (forever now). For me i think that once you have killed all the first generation zeds and several iterations of their re-spawned replacements in a town they shouldn't start spawning again for 10 minutes or so. Otherwise its just a waste of ammo and time. But like you I think more zombies will lead to cooperating with others at least until the zombies have been cleared out...after that it will be back to KoS and Banditry sadly. -

Are you sure its me coming off as a 'Homer' sport? Stop acting like a snot with that homer shit, take a sedative andf Enjoy the game as it develops and improves. Now as I recall I never said that YOU complained about the cost, I said: "Folks that cry about their 30 bucks make me sick I have played standalone for almost 800 hours making my cost to play $0.0375 per hour. WOW! how expensive!!!" Unless your name is 'Folks' lets not make this all about YOU bro because it isn't. Actually we agree since I also enjoy DayZ far more than any other game I have scored off of Steam. In fact, for quite a long time have played only DayZ as I have no time for 95% of the crap that's out there that I paid a hell of a lot more for. DayZ is more of a 'game' right now than most finished games will ever be IMHO. How do you like Hunting for your sustenance in DayZ as opposed to scavenging for it in a typically Zombie infested shit hole of a town? I just wish they would fix the cooking pot so that I can use a stove to cook my meat without burning it...and they will fix it. -
Yes aggressive noobs are to be shot the instant they continue to approach after being told to stop or before if they are wearing clown masks :P

Had the same thing happen twice in two days! I was kneeling in a bush (invisible I thought) and Zeds nailed me in the head both times and my motorcycle helmet was ruined on both occasions but I took only light damage. Apparently kneeling makes it far more likely that your head will be hit (and that makes sense). Hell's High I was and am still a green radar hat kind of guy but I carry a pristine Motorcycle helmet and put it on when I go into towns where I know there are always Zeds about. as for getting shot in the head even a ballistic helmet is no guarantee that you wont get killed instantly or knocked out cold. I think a head shot with any rifle cartridge exceeds the defensive capacity of any helmet.
