That attitude on their part will just be a thinly veiled manifestation of their inherent yellow streaks and I say good riddance to that lazy trash. I like the Survival aspects of the game above everything else zombies come second, and player interactions of any kind last.
-
I like PvP at times especially when I have been attacked or I see an ass trying to shadow or flank me. And depending on how paranoid I am at the moment I will KoS. But I sure would miss the zombies

It doesn't take long for people to get a taste for long pork when there is nothing else around. It was popular in Warsaw, Stalingrad and just about any walled city that was put under a long siege as far back as the dark ages and even before that. Remember those cannibals in the film The Road? Man, that was creepy because hunting people and storing their 'live' provisions in the basement had become normal for them. The book is always better and the description of that was beyond creepy. All the Devs would have to do is allow the option to skin and quarter a corpse and get a long pig steaks and there would be cannibal cults. But the players that go for the Long pig would have to bear a mark such as a leering sardonic grin after two meals of human flesh. I love Graphic Novels and for me the darker the better. I think you'll be requiring some beans :beans: I disagree about the game itself because it is too early to tell but I agree 110% that Zombies are an integral part of the game and should be improved and made more formidable. Have some Beans :beans:

How about Zeds, contaminated areas, radioation caused, anomalities and long pork eating cannibals. How about having to check all canned foods and game meat with a geiger counter or Scintilation counter and having to keep track of your rads and finding iodine pills to purge radioactive iodine from the body. Zero = Zed Zed =Zombie Don't say the Zed word :P

Good point. But I know when you are laying Navmesh for a game like fallout 3 or New Vegas you can place an object 'in the editor' that sits on the Navmesh but can't be clipped through by the critters or players and NPC if you mark it "obstruction". But I think you would need to make a gate that can be locked so that you can get in and out but the Zeds can't as long as the gate is shut.
-
Indeed and scavenging stock grade barbed wire would be easy and a Trestle apron, or Lapland barrier fence are easy to build and real bitch to get through if constructed correctly. And laying a carpet of tangle foot, spikes and caltrops on the outside wall to keep the Zeds and asshole-ios out would be a natural.
-
I want the anti tamper device. But for securing a camp against roaming Zombies and curious assholes spiked whip traps, and spike pits should do nicely along with some barbed wire to create a small circular entanglement that serves as a barrier and to channelize dopes into your defenses. Note: A player that gets caught in your wire barrier can wiggle and squirm his way free but at the expense of his clothing going down two levels in condition and some minor bleeding.
-
I agree. And from my perspective as one that didn't need to kill anyone to acquire the best weapons and equipment and plenty of ammo. I strongly favor the ability to place an anti tamper devise on your pack. It would be swell to know that the slinking parasitic dog that shot you in the back will be killed and your gear ruined when he/she attempts to loot your corpse condition 1) Any devise you can place and set can also be detected and defeated. condition 2) If you have activated an anti tamper devise on your pack you must first deactivate it before accessing anything in it.
-
I agree 100% except that they seem to be more than a nuisance to new spawns, poorly equipped and clueless players. Increase the range, number, and durability of Zeds. These should be actively roaming the cities, towns and forests. And lastly there should be a 50/50 chance that any bleeding wound you get from a zombie gives you a nasty and potentially deadly infection Bite Treatment: 1 Disinfect wound 2 Bind wound 3 Take antibiotics 4 Become stuffed with food and water (repeat steps 1 thru 4 several times) 5) While you are healing you are weak, can't hold a weapon still, hit like a little girl and can't move faster than a jog Even the 'toughest' Bandits, PvP and KoS pussies will see things a bit differently and show their yellow streaks once we have the Zombies at full strength and numbers. There shouldn't be anyplace on the map where it is Zed free and they should populate buildings. One should expect zombies to be roaming the lower and upper floors of any building. And the name of the game Is DayZ WTF does the Z stand for.
-
I hope the day is fast approaching when Zombies will become the primary threat. That would be a good thing for an open world survival horror game where Zombies provide the horror element. Zombies should be everywhere in large numbers especially in the cities and towns. And every wilderness location on the map should spawn zombies like the Black Forest (at the very minimum).

Same here and for me the bottom line is that any fool that approaches a 'honey pot' with his head up his ass deserves some pain.

You are Dead at the N W A F Fire station tower
Xbow replied to Boxer23's topic in General Discussion
The classic kill shot comes from the control tower. The shooter location is usually the observation deck, or the stairs via the window. Anyone dumb enough to stand around near a fire station tower window deserves what he gets. I've killed sever bone head snipers trying to work that game. It might be good for Boxer23 to NOT STAND BY WINDOWS. I see no evidence of a game glitch; the 'glitch' is elsewhere and biological. Mr. alphadogmeat, for your astute commentary you must have some beans :beans: -
The bottom line for DayZ is "here is what is available do what you want" so I am in no way going to go against that. So if a group sends out a half a dozen hombres out hunting: •helicopter avionics repair kits, •fuel •helicopter engine repair kits or whatever I have no problem with it. However, it should be tough enough to require a group to collect all the items required to make the bird operational and keep it flying otherwise it would take forever. I could see some good battles between the guys with a chopper and the guys that want to deprive them of it..that would be fun on either end. My only concern is to make it hard enough to acquire and maintain a chopper so that no one or two players can do it all...and what a risk it would be to train the primary pilot and co-pilot. The group with a chopper would have to have a compound and a ground vehicle or two to go out and get what is needed. However with belt fed machine gun armed ground vehicles and helicopters you would have to make belt fed weapons, RPG-7s, Molotov Cocktails, Plastic Explosives and craft-able command detonated IEDs, 12.7mml AA MGs and the rare man portable Stinger and SA-7 AA missiles available to all players. There could be some crazy ground fights like this one: have some beans... :beans:
-
Why even bother with helicopters? What do they really add to the game? To be realistic in lieu of a genuine supply chain keeping one running would be a titanic pain in the arse as it should be. And the maintenance cycle would be continuous. With all the logistical power of the US Military you can count on 10% to 20% of your birds being safety dead-lined or hard down waiting parts at any given time. And what happens when a turbine sucks up some dirt and FODs out and needs a new compressor? Or takes a bullet in the compressor? If maintenance isn't 100% even short hops would be a serious risk to the flight crew and shooters on board. A good chopper pilot might be able to auto-rotate and get on the ground safely if he can maintain the kinetic energy in the rotors for that dramatic flair before touch down but if he screws up just a little bit its smack down and crash and burn time. So if someone really wants a helicopter have it and the endless problems the ownership of one presents. FOD = Foreign Object Damage [edit] Trizzo wrote, "Now armoured vehicles is a separate discussion...highly controversial perhaps. If there are disused civilian vehicles why not military? I feel as though these would be far more crew-able and available in some post society situation than aircraft. No doubt they are easier to operate than a chopper but like a helicopter tracked and heavy wheeled vehicles are maintenance intensive but they do make more sense than helicopters. I wish I had a $10.00 bill for every time my M1A1 took a shit on me and kept me up all night fixing the damn thing (Loved it). A Humvee or MRAP would be the best choice.

A thought like that requires a reward of Beans!! :beans:
-
Actually, Zeds could be a source of fuel! Kill them and transport them to an industrial sized pressure cooker that can reach 500 psi, batten down the pressure hatch and render them down into bio diesel. have some beans :beans:
-
One would hope that one of the primary purposes of a post apoc vehicle would not be overlooked. I am sure that at the very minimum the passengers, and a couple of guys in the bed of the truck could fire
-
That would be acceptable and as ColonelBurton said fuel will turn to shit very quickly and people will have to have: stills to make wood alcohol fuel OR build wood gas generators to run their vehicles. OR access to a big pile of shit to scavenge methane I imagine it would be quite a job keeping a vehicle running and topped off. And how horrible it would be for the owner and his cronies to see his ride riddled and set on fire. Those of us that find vehicles, speed boats, and helicopters objectionable will form the 1st Luddite Regiment and Burn Baby Burn!!!
-
I agree 100%, "Ideally no helos at all though." And it would seem appropriate for the helicopter to require 3x or 4x as much time undergoing maintenance than flying. Imagine 15 min of game time spent flying around requiring 45 to 60 minutes of game time re-torquing and rewiring nuts and who knows how much time will be needed to find parts that have hit the far end of the bathtub and are ready to fail. And as you said a complex flight model would be required. Helicopter training programs have a very high washout rate. It should be more trouble than its worth. The owner of that helicopter should be equipped with a: • wrench, • role of high carbon steel wire, • a pair of pliers, • a set of allen keys,• a Phillips screwdriver,• a flat tip scredriver,• a pop rivet gun,• various special tools,• a set of test kits for the avionics systems,• and a thick repair manual for the chopper you have! I think in short order the chopper would make a fine conversation piece as its rots away.

I hope as far as they go is bicycles, shitty cars, beat up light trucks, a few small rowboats, and some rubber boats with tiny engines. The Map isn't really big enough for helicopters, and speed boats and no one needs BMPs and other military vehicles. I hope they have pushed the arrival of your advanced vehicles to, "a cold day in hell." I don't want to play ARMA with Zombies. But have some beans anyway :beans:

Since I am sick of the incessant whining and moaning about nothing lets talk about good things tat have happened with the game. I will use Persistent re-spawning Zombies as my example. Today I decided to do a Zombie persistence test so I hit the NWAF and picked up a tail of three 1st generation Zeds near the tower and headed to the North end of the Air Field. 1) The Zeds were in hot pursuit all the way.to the first Hangar on the North end of the field a distance of 460 meters. 2) At the Hangar I turned right to the North East and got on the road and stayed on it making sure not to lose my Zed escort, Distance about a 360 meters. 3)Then with my escort intact I turned left onto the dirt road that leads to open fields at a bend in the road distance traveled 600 meters. 4) From there I traveled straight North with my crew of pus bags in tow. and stopped In the open country about 75 meters East of the Deer stand and shot all three Zeds with the Longhorn and moved about 100 meters to the North. In about a minute the Zombies re-spawned and now my escort consisted of a Hopper, a Military Zed and a Female Zed. from there I led them North through the open fields to the Train tracks a distance of about 750 meters. 5) I stopped on the tracks turned in their direction and shot the three of them when they were about 100 meters to the south of the tracks. 6)From there I moved 500meters to the North East and arrived at the row of storage lockers near the Large factory building and hog pens. When I looked back I saw only two zeds, the Female and the Military Zed. I shot those when they got on the concrete pad. I moved back to see where the hopper was and it was stopped about 250meters from the Storage lockers in a ditch. I got its attention and then headed again to the North East for 500 meters and was followed only by that Hopper. I shot that one when I got to the edge of the tree line. From there I headed North for a Long way, stayed in the forest and lost whatever else might have spawned. So how far was that run? Leg 1 Tower to Hangar 460 meters Leg 2 Hangar to bend in the road 360meters Leg 3 Bend in the road to another bend in the dirt road 600meters Leg 4 750 meters from the Deer Stand to the tracks Leg 5 Tracks to storage lockers 500 meters Leg 6 storage lockers to treeline 400---500 meters That's a chase of about 3.2 kilometers (3.17km). Not too shabby. Clearly the Developers have provided a persistent zombie threat over distance, and that's a good thing. I guess the moral of the story is that If you don't want to burn ammo and get chased try not to shoot or otherwise kill first generation Zeds. 1st Gen Zeds can see out to ~200meters but second generation Zeds can see about three times that far. I consider that a pleasing and massive improvement over what the Zeds were not so long ago. What other good things can we talk about?

I haven't tried fishing yet as deer and hog hunting have been for the most part sustaining my character. Now that persistent items are in effect i could assemble the required gear make a fishing rig and stash it somewhere near a pond. I would indeed like to add some fish to my characters diet. So now we have multiple methods of acquiring sustenance, hunting, fishing, scavenging, and browsing for fruit and berries and those are all good things. Now if they just add some intoxicating beverages to the mix! Death By Crowbar wrote, "At 14:25, when he hits the female zed, that looks exactly how I look when I use the hammer against zeds, omg LOL." I haven't used the hammer in quite awhile because it was a terrible weapon. If they have upped the damage it delivers I might add one to my load. I cant explain it but there is something intrinsically pleasing and classic about bashing a Zeds brains into mush with machinists hammer :P Have some Beans sir.

Is it? Elaborate a bit on that GR.

Thanks for the Beans! And here have some yourself  I wanted to see just how long the rotting bastards would pursue me so you could call it an enjoyable test. My favorite method of dealing with zeds is (when the terrain permits) to led them to an incline that is steep enough so that when you descend your character slows down and slips a bit. Zeds as I am sure you know don't moderate their speed and if the terrain is steep enough they shoot past you and do lethal face plants into the dirt; for them its lights out on impact. It is gratifying to see a pile of Zeds at the bottom of a steep hill. There are many excellent zombie ski slopes all over the map but for city encounters Svetlojarsk is the best I've seen. The short steep slopes that lead down to the tracks adjacent to the port facilities are primo. I once lured a crew of five zombies down a slope in the vicinity of 140,121 and watched them slam into the dirt. :P As for the axe and pitchfork I use those when I am building a character, when I am low on ammunition, or when I don't want to make noise. But in truth I'm not all that good with the axe I'm better with the Pitchfork but I no longer carry one as the axe is a more useful tool. For me engaging three or four Zeds with an axe is a sure way for me to get hit at least once and this is especially true with rapidly re-spawning generation 2 Zeds. So I would rather use a few bullets than take a chance on bleeding, having my Jacket or vest ruined and some of the gear they were holding damaged or destroyed by the slobbering bastards. When I am ammo fat I often go Zed hunting with the rifle or pistol and use them for target practice at short medium and long range. In the process I've gotten a lot faster and more accurate, and this has served me well in the many surprise encounters I've had with now deceased would be bandits and KoS addicts. ;) Yes I AGREE 'KILL THEM AND KIll THEM HARD' (words to live by Mr. Death By Crowbar) Here is my favored sport---> start at 11 minutes & 55 seconds through to 12 minutes & 45 seconds Have you noticed that hoppers deliver a considerable portion of the damage they can generate to the lower body? I had my pants and boots ruined not long ago on a Kamikaze pistol run into group of four Zeds at melee ranges. I hate it when that happens!! :) I love this Game for what it is now despite the bugs and i will love it more when it is finished!

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
Xbow replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
For myself I choose the suit on the left with an embedded HULC II system that never needs to be recharged. For the rest of you I choose M1A4E2 Hawaiian shirts, Bermuda shorts, Mexican Sandals, blaze orange fanny packs, and bright pink beanies.
