    I suppose if you want to put a biased spin on it, that's the way you'll see it. What about bragging rights for hours played vs (low) players killed? I've seen lots of people here bragging about 1000s of hours and not ever having seen a person. pics or gtfo.

    are you seriously running DayZ on 640x480? Dear god... That's like Pentium 166 days(DayZ?). Try running your potatoes in sequence, you may squeeze some more juice out of them that way. (but seriously, that's a horrid resolution, despite you saying it makes it look better, which is perhaps more worrying)..

    Well it's science so it's all quite 'as far as we know' too... but I thought the common (new) 'theory' was that we co-evolved alongside, from a common ancestor to current apes, not that we're ape ver2.0. Also, can confirm with first-hand experience that DayZ zombies are definitely not 'nothing more than normal people'. Also, remember before we start swinging the A&R words around, that Authentic can also mean 'likely to adopt due to or because of finding something plausable or believable'. This incorporates everything from sci-fi, to realistic fiction to autobiography. That said, yeah, i don't want Nether zombies teleporting in through glowing pentagrams on the ground. I'm still off on my own concept, but the pathogen is fictional, while there's plenty of pathogens out there that alter the behavior of the host. Again cordiceps as an example, but there's a swath of worms / nematodes / whatever out there that change the behavior of their (sometimes mammalian hosts). There are deep-sea colonial organisms that are single-cellular individually, but colonially they form organs and appendages for digestion/motility/feeding. Infectious agent altering or creating organs/organelles? The Thing? As far as i care, this thing wants to spread, and it's altering the behavior of the host, if not also altering its body. They already seem to have overcome pain. Surely fear and other logic/rational thought processes are the first things to go when you hijack a body? All that wishing aside, i'm with the camp that feels zombies('infected') are too underpowered, and that this would seem like an easy out on the meta. I'd rather them be the traditional 'near-immortal' where the only solution is destruction of the brain, even though with melee and currently small numbers, this is the go-to location to attack anyway. With more features and maybe more Ai changes, they may become something more, but atm they're quite the distraction from teh real game (if you just want to clobber something) or otherwise are a distraction or inconvenience if you're fighting or shooting something within city boundaries.

    Most traditional zombies are infected, btw. There's a slew of archetypes along a bandwidth though, from the semi-invulnurable crawling, reanimated dead type; to the tweaker, rabid, full-focus stimulous but irrational or primal brain function 'infected' of 28 days later. 'Magic zombies', ghouls (vampiric slaves); witch-doctor slaves or other chemically induced zombies have never been counted within the fold. Obviously, you guys don't read the good book. Yall f'''ed when the snowstorm comes...

    What is your honest opinion on the future of DayZ

    I don't really understand. Still being worked on, will hopefully come out eventually. I won't play it like i spammed it in the early release versions, or with as much frequency, but i'll still come back. They've sold however million units, and will probably see at least a short-lived influx of new players upon launch to enliven the game... If there's still a server or two of 60+ vanilla when i want to play then the whole 'when it comes out it will be outdated' is BS. There's not really much else like this game, even the copycats are fundamentally different (for better or for worse). From my standpoint, it's basically a more advanced version of the vanilla mod, with arguably more stability from when i last played it, and the same if not more features (as vanilla)... Every other EA program out there takes a swing at DayZ as 'abandonware' in an attempt to sell or further market their product, and their radical zealous playerbases just circlejerks all over eachother until there's nothing left but chaff giggling like the bully from South Park muttering 'yeah, yeah' while looking their neighbour straight in the eye without blinking. Niche, notorious, ambitious, slow, broad & vast... it's a whole lot of things, and i'm young and patient enough to wait for it. Project Zomboid is a smaller game, that's been in EA for god knows how long (i only just hopped on board) and is in what i'd consider an extremely polished state. That said, people still bitch and whine about features not being in yet, when the devs stated multiple times they aim to honour their promise. Some people just can't be pleased, or perhaps just need to vent from time to time.

    Shadows and object detail are the one's i mess with. They can make seeing people/things at a distance an issue, and you do get a degree of 'popping' but i feel that resolution aside (i generally try to force native res so it looks at minimum, not like poop) these two are some of the more easily sacrificed for performance. Was running at ~High before 0.59 and i didn't have terrible performance (although i learned to live with it, like with my 10fps Ravenshield sting back on a Pentium2 or w/e where anticipation was key) and got forced to V-High after 0.59 for some reason. Now most is sitting at default Norm.

    I also don't quite understand the hypewars of either platform, as my PC bought a year or two before their release was more powerful (and is still due to static nature of teh HW)... but that's OT i spose. Beans to Mod and Relentless for making me aware of the XB1 support. I take it from the lack of information and product discussion on 'other platforms' that XB1 is perhaps tentatively booked in for supporting DayZ?

    Well, there's also 'I am legend' and a whole slew of other 'infected' genre post-apoc stories... Personally, I'd see the 'infected' as akin to the 'rage virus' from 28 days later. Consumed by rage/hatred/lust for killing (and blending in traditional 'zombie' lore being that of those-that-do-not-care) I'd see any inflicted/infected as being above reasoning, primal urges/stimuli or any other kind of cause/effect behavior. They exist purely to destroy that which is not themselves. I could definitely appreciate the change or dynamic that would come about due to fear of light, but I'd personally want to see a MS type zombie, where fear, pain, reason, rationale, etc... is not part of their makeup. It's a simple A-B process of search and destroy, hunter killer, infect and spread. Like cordiceps (cue 'The Last of Us'); the virus/prion/pathogen has a singular purpose of reproducing. Fire is but an obstacle made redundant by removal of pain or other stimuli in the host. Walk through it and infect, spread, become legion.

    To clarify, is there any confusion about continuity of official vs public servers? I don't rely too heavily on 'persistance' outside of gear, so wouldn't know if things change. The distinction however is important and has been an issue in other threads / conversations rgs: DayZ servers however. It seems like the distinction is made in 'Scope' and 'Introduction' just wanted to be sure...

    ahhhh. maybe that's what it is? Jammed ammo getting damaged and not being able to go back into the stack because the game is distinguishing as a different grade/type of ammo and refuses to combine damaged with good ammo? Does this happen IRL? that an otherwise 'clean' round (not sabotage) being jammed can become wrecked and not safe to fire? Didn't think the loading/ejection mechanism was that powerful, but i suppose if you're mashing a round stuck in the breach with a bolt or something there may be an issue. If there's some kind of mis-fire to do with the firing pin then i can understand, probably more important for centre-fire weapons... I understand that a round being stuck in the chamber, barrel or clogging the ejection port leading to an improperly chambered then charged round can cause problems because the new one isn't properly alligned with the barrel, shell fires at odd angle to barrel and exhaust gas pushes in a direction it's not meant to, or a round impacting obstruction down barrel or in chamber causing bad things, but the round its self: does it or can it become non-functional or hazardous? Still, it should be able to be re-entered into stack and re-enter circulation, if you don't throw it away, so the fact it doesn't enter stack still feels like a problem to me, imo. The graphic should be 'crimped' or something on the icon if it is this case, but then not change the icon of 'clean' stacked ammo if you do stack it back in...

    PVP zones

    Outside Cherno/Elektro/Berez it's pretty slim pickings, especially if you want an 'even fight'. Svetlojarsk and Novo up the far NE are generally quite full of people with good geometry/topography in that area for it to be exciting, but the people i see are also quite low-geared compared to say, the NW. NW has generally higher geared people, maybe even groups, but they're a lot thinner in number yeah... If you just want to shoot a man, do a run of the regular loot spots: NWAF, Mysh, Vybor, Kamenka, Zeleno, Novy/Stary Sobor etc..

    Try also removing the clothing item that contains the 'broken' ammunition, as sometimes non-interactable food items like open bean cans don't register or even draw an icon occasionally, and dropping the container fixes the issue from time to time. NB: do it somewhere open and not concealed by grass etc preferably outside somewhere flat, as sometimes dropping things like this can cause DayZ to have a fit and throw your objects somewhere other than where you are, particularly if in a house or something, or in wooded areas and you may never get the item or contents back.. Definitely had the 2nd issue of eject and can not stack. Can't remember if i found a work-around or not. Which weapons this happening to? I think mine were generally 'low-calibre' weapons like the mak or something, maybe .45 for 1911 or the FNX...

    some theme-parks and zoo's have them over here across flat land. They're transport first, and a scenic attraction too i suppose. It could be from a left-over game reserve or something of the like... Looks good, but yeah, will not ride that bus.

    Geometric Occluder Technology in DayZ

    Not compltely sure (as usual) but i thought 'occlusion' was a portmanteau of 'ocular' (eye, or of relating to seeing/vision), and 'exclusion' (being removed from, prevent from being with). That what is not seen is excluded, not drawn or not involved in some 'process' which would demand resources. Examples of this are building interiors. Almost all buildings are enterable throughout DayZ, and these resources are all being 'drawn' despite not necessarily being 'seen' by the player. This means they're all there, ready for you as you walkin or peer in, but are using resources. Fog of War or limiting draw-distance is one way of limiting what is being 'drawn' i believe. or just checkout SMoss's post or consult google. More opinion than fact in this post < :P It's got something to do with culling things that don't need to be drawn 'just yet', kind of like a buffer or something though... gah, jargon. I'm sure some tech-savvy young coder or whatsistitle will explain.

    DirectX 12 confirmed?

    I should have worded it better. I'm not entirely 100% on this, but i believe Arma3 is getting an Eden developer program/package/thing update, which may also work for DayZ. Then there is the Apex which is rumored to include DX12 for Arma3, which may also benefit DayZ. A quick search of google (with results being spammed by BI information) suggest that Nexus update is live, Eden may be live, and Apex is lacking in any particular techinical details (with me hearing limited rumors of DX12 introduction). Suffice it to say, all three update packages appear to lean heavily towards Arma3 development, but again, there may be some cross-compatability or co-benefit here.

    New Renderer

    Renderer is being worked on. This is a war being fought on many fronts, a logistical exercise. It may not be receiving 100% of resources, and perhaps not even managed as we'd like. On the other hand, maybe it's being managed beyond what most would expect... They are playing it close to their chest for the most part, but work on the Renderer has been ongoing and still continues. I and many others of these forums, could have told the majority that either Beta will not be releasing on time, given the steps still to be put in place, or that should Beta come as per schedule, it would be a Beta by name only. The game still has some time to go in my eyes, with the features still to come. Post-release support (or at least support from last major SMoss talk) of up to 5 years has been promised, so i'm sure more will come in the future, but base-functionality and features have not been met.
