How can we fix camping ?

@Espa (I'm getting lazy with quotes) Yeah, but there's only so many tents see? I think it's an OP mechanic. If they upped the tent count so that more people could enjoy the benefit, then tents would dot the hills. That would probably afford you a degree of 'security' as safety in numbers now that every man and his dog has one, but would just be ugly. We'll see, not to shoot you down, just my opinion. :P Keep the juices flowing! Also, @ netting being too easy to see, foliage camo etc... Why not just let us plant trees? :) Modify geometry and / or actual foliage. Plan out an area that you know will accept a tent, plant your trees... wait for them to reach acceptable height then drop your tent/camp. Trees out of place are probably harder to recognize than modified topography, and if you make a dense knoll or grotto it's probably going to be obvious, so a degree of artistic and functionality required?

How can we fix camping ?

I think it's been discussed before, and the hardcore players hate that idea. Wilderness wanderers etc... Ultimately though, it does reward hoarding, and dis-incentivises (sp?) intelligent play, as you have a safety net. There may also be some encouragement for illegitimate item procurement if you're guaranteed to get back to your 1/300 AKMs. (over exaggerated for emphasis, not sure on state of duping/hacking atm). Long story short: nope. I'd probably also grow lazy and use it, and may - by my own hand - kill off the enjoyment of scrounging as a freshy. Also, if you're talking about being a 'cuckoo' and tagging your horcrux to someone else's tent that you stumble across, i'm very much against, although that would drive 'tent hunting'... Also, again in the negative: while it takes energy to amass that stuff, that system you proposed 'rewards the wealthy'. In a survival game where everyone is meant to be scrounging over the corpse of a world long dead, this kind of reward for the 'haves' is again, not complimentary to the gameplay/setting IMO. Interesting, yes, but I don't/wouldn't appreciate where the game would turn to, in my mind. @OP, netting - didn't see that. It's a good idea IMO. That said, i'm sure that the game 'could' work around the standard FPS issue, but my concern is that - in almost every FPS - I can spot emplacements or enemies very very very easily. Contrasting colour tones is usually what gives it away. Tents (and even the non-interactable ones at NovySabor for example) stand out crazy obvious, and they're 'camo')... New renderer *may* be able to fix this, or some other work around, but I feel it's good theory bad practice for my eyes.

    Dayz Reviews on Steam

Just by the by, to quote and review your previous post, Synstr, giving negative feedback is also quite fashionable :P Also, it's showing 'Mostly Positive' 73% positive reviews, with the first page being almost entirely negative reviews... Not too fashionable it would seem. Come back in a year and keep your shoe handy. I'll have the ketchup. If i'm wrong i'll eat it too. Not saying it will be done, just that I expect some serious advancement this year. Beta be damned, I'm really hoping that renderer comes through shortly.

How can we fix camping ?

I was really hoping from back in the mod that someone would tie in a set of cartesianal 'interchange' areas, at the four edges of the map ala STALKER where you'd transition to another map. Alas, i don't think that kind of thing would happen. On topic: Could have some client-side foliage render, that makes a canopy in areas where certain trees would allow for it. Shouldn't be conniferous canopy, but for the more 'traditional' tree areas like around Kamenka and the like, perhaps. I know though, that most of the woods is conniferous though... Other than this, you could move camps 'underground'. It won't save trucks, and wouldn't really make tents useless. As long as everyone could find it, and you could cover up entrances with sticks or something that looks camoflauged but can be seen to the discerning hunter, then barrels etc.. could still be used. Give more weight to the shovel, and a time vs reward system could be used, so that you can just dig a little pit, throw in a backpack or some ammo and cover it up or spend more time and throw in a barrel or two.

    Dayz Reviews on Steam

I also think the same thing, but i can understand why not. It's boolean/Binary at the end of the day. You either recommend or don't. The text (option) is there to support your point and / or give an objective response if you should so desire. you can also fanboy/haterant/ meke de funny. Steam allowing a neutral position on a platform that is ultimately meant to both provide a marketing vehicle, and act as a 'check' against which games they should greenlight/stock would be a waste from my perspective. I've only done 2 reviews, but there are plenty of games out there that I think are OK but would downvote because of price, as example. Or games that I do enjoy personally, like DayZ, but would not reccomend because i don't believe they warrant a positive view at this time. Similar to how the Devs on steam store basically say 'please DONT buy the game unless you really want to help us', it would be a negative review with a positive spin in the comment (if i decided to review it, which i won't). DayZ is a bad example as it's EA, and much more difficult to rate (objectively) as subject to change. Something like Fallout 4 maybe. I'd downvote because i feel it's full of bugs, has a poor game mechanic, etc, despite being fun and enjoyable. I'd have a caveat in there that if you're die-hard fallout fan, this may not be for you. If you like skyrim etc, then it's a probable yes. But ultimately I'd choose no. The text would appear positive, or with positive spins, but I couldn't honestly tell my friends to go spend their money on it, nor a stranger. TLDR: in reviewing, I could get all quantitative or analytical, but ultimately will still give a 'HELL YES or NO' response wherever possible (with justification). As I said in one of the previous though, it's the text that I pay attention to mostly. The + or - ( for me) is irrelevant individually. I will become interested in response/feedback where I am interested at first glance, and it has a negative score, or where i am not interested but people really like it. Vica versa to these two options, if you catch my drift? Something may catch my eye with glitz or text, but everyone hates it. Interested! Scroll down and browse the humorous(without intent) rant responses, and criticise the critical responses against what 'first glance' impressions i had. Then there's something like Undertale, despite my being a devout 'retro fanboy' and the game looking like pokemon, I don't really have too much desire. yet people seem to lose their shit over the depth of story and emotional response elicited by the game. Went in thinking 'nahhh' *overwhelmingly positive*, plethora of objectively positive responses with succinct justification. Interest rising. Again, it's a marketing and check/balance mechanism for steam. Neutral scoring would be useless. A rated system would be a compromise, but has more room for abuse/manipulation than a binary system (see metacritic either 0/10 or 10/10, despite aggregate still giving a xx/10 usually between these extremes as pure co-incidence of their mathy wizard gremlins. You could argue "how does 8/10 seem more manipulative than 'positive' , or 10/10 seem better than 'overwhelmingly positive'? One is absolute value. 10/10 means perfect which is a much stronger response (to me) than 'overwhelmingly positive', which means 'majority or almost everyone likes it, in a system where you like or you don't. Absolute value, to me, carries a lot more weight. Which is why i avoid IGN unless i'm really bored or want to buy into hype. Everything there is 8/10+ unless for some reason they dont' like you... What happens when you get kicked by battlEye?

Are you getting a reason why? ie: is it giving you feedback on it's kick? If you keep getting kicked (more accurately, keep getting allowed back in), then it doesn't sound like a hack to me. I'd expect that you still go through the standard 'wait around to despawn' issue, the same as if you pull your power, alt-F4 or CTRL+ALT+DEL out of the game... I think that you just remain in your current condition (sometimes even running on the spot) but you should be vulnurable i think, while the server/hive tries to save your recent data. I'd be checking for a BE response, or do some digging to solve the problem if it's a persistant issue, as I do belive you'd be vulnurable, and a good way to get shot without being able to retalliate. edit: ah, as above. I know the running man issue is real. Check with Battle eye or look for logs somewher (not sure where, man i don't experience this issue and haven't been kicked but for 'client not responding' very rarely when i'm AFK or something). If it's persistant i'd want to get it fixed ASAP.

Top 5 Kills 2015 - DayZ Standalone (Video)

Pretty good kills for most. #1 was a really bad opponent imo. Not sure why he didn't shoot earlier, and he missed terribly :S. As far as 'Finish Him!' I'm of the mind of Zod: don't leave an enemy in a state other than destroyed. If you fire on me or something definitely kill. If there's something else going on, I may consider it, but often than not i'll do it 'out of safety'. If i could burn or destroy your things without killing and hiding your body, well...
  10. Both challenging but 'authentic' - to use the hated word - infected yeah. Recently got Project Zomboid. I know i know, apples to oranges, but they'll chase you for a while then give up in the open, but if you break LoS they'll go to where you last were seen - or maybe even where you were headed - and then they'll get confused and antsy, looking around or static searching. Sounds draw them, and occasionally they tend to 'explore' ie: bang their heads on doors and windows for no good reason. They also swarm to gunshots and screams and the like. Again, apples to oranges, but compared to dragging them around like the proverbial ball-on-a-string, it's what i'd love to see in infected AI :)

    More players vs more infected

Infected if i had to choose. Didn't vote though, met the quota for this year ;P. More players won't change the dynamic too much imo. More Z's will. I'd see 100players as an upper maximum. At 64 it personally does feel like enough for the most party. Berez/Cherno/Elek/NW are popular 'meeting spots'. I know 100 won't be the following: but i don't want an MMO feel where players litter the fields like mice.

    Source Code & Values

I'm definitely not a computer hacker :( I thought source was like the DNA though, the stuff you could barely get your hands at unless given or you hacked your way in? To that end, i thought modding was more re-shaping the building than working back from blueprints? Wish i was a wizard though

    Ethical Hunting

There's a good chance i'm talking out of my ass here, but I've heard varmint corpses being left behind acts as a deterrant to more varmints, as it scares them off similar to skulls on stakes. @ J0n, not sure personally, did you try boiling in a pot or cooking in a pot? Boar pelts are good for backpacks indeed. I believe shrub did give his blessing (with limited scope) to kill boars for pelts if they're used for backpacks. Should probably use all the meat too just for his sake. I think he'd also appreciate an apology to pig prior to killing, and prayer to pig wife and pig children after, as he won't be bringing home the bacon any more :( Edit: aw shiet, combobreaker :(

Disclaimer on the Link page. Be careful as it may mess up your junk. I'd also expect accessing source code (if possible) to be against the EULA, most company's don't like you looking into their work like that for both security and IP reasons.

    Ethical Hunting

I was going to leave it but good to see you got in there. I bet the African / overseas game hunts (where the animal is generally bred for sport) gets snapped up and used. If you only take the head, they'd be crazy to not also skin the sucker, use the bones and meat... If you're talking about pest control, culls and what not: i can understand not taking the meat (it's usually infested, and culls involve hundreds or thousands of kills, pest control less voluminous but still) although there are social and biological concerns with leaving corpses out in fields. Still, any cause requiring the killing, gutting and consuming of my fellow man is one that i can get behind. This is the moral of the story. Don't mess with the cows! I find my game mid-map around Zeleno and to the East slightly, in the smaller villages there. The last few patches i saw them in, they seemed to have a set migration pattern, and didn't free-roam. This means they should be pretty easy to find once you identify their spots. Chickens i'm not sure of where they are really. I hear they spawn a radius from 'chicken coops'. I do actually run into them quite often, and i'm surprised at how easy it is to hear them (and rabbits!!!). Chickens cluck quite audibly and are easy to find, while rabbits generally will wait until you get right up on top of them, which is when they dart off. I've nearly shat myself several times due to rabbits thumping the ground as they flee, thinking someone was charging me or something... Once you blink a few times, and you realise you're not dead, it's quite easy to find them, particularly if there's a degree of angle to the ground (ie: not flat and grassy). Pigs, i'm not sure if pigs are in the game anymore. All i know, pig is unicorn of dayz. I miss shrub :(

I'm very glad you gutted and ate him. It's what I would have done, poacher or otherwise. Hail J0nathan, protector of game, consumer of men!
  18. At time of voting for me, there were 17 votes made. Not sure if this is total picks or 17 people having voted. But it was 17 selections across all options. That suggests someone out there (at least) didn't vote for two, making this a slightly biased poll (to get all statis-sticky) Picked Vehicles and Zombies. Vehicles because i feel you need to work for them, they're fragile, and are easily pilliaged. Zombies, because it's DayZ. Ambience i don't really understand. Is this sound, or just general 'immersion'? Not really sure so can't vote. probably wouldn't. Nonlethal weaponry: there's already a bit there... 0 votes so far though wow. I feel comfortable with the majority of melee weaponary, although perhaps tweaks to be made for some? Predatory animals i don't really feel the need to rush. I know it's coming, and there's too much broken fodder in this game at the moment to poke fun at. When its done or near to. Diverse weather effects would be cool, but i think the majority of servers i play on mess with the weather effects anyway. Not sure if this can be done, or just the consequence of not having it implemented, but every server i play on is just straight up blue skies and corpses.

    The what if

Attack of the Body Snatchers! A bunch of moaning, shrieking fresh spawns mashing their palms into each other's faces. Due to overcrowding and a lack of adequate resources, the fresh spawns have begun devouring themselves and anything within arms reach. *ahem* KIRITOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry bout that...
  23. It's a fair enough suggestion on it's own, but with regards to kickers, ignoring them (assuming you don't report / religiously) will just gloss over the problem until there's no servers left except the ones you're able to play, which incidentally, means that the 'bad' servers are now one less scrutiniser short and can continue their practices.
  24. Biggest issue i see with removing vicinity window is somehow communicating the 'size' of the item and the 'configuration/shape' it assumes in your inventory. And having this neatly done. Given the restrictions on bagspace/configuration of inventory then i see this being quite difficult to do without garish text over every item. At best, i'd expect some work-around feature similar to what J0nathan said, to restrict movement when in inventory so that you can't just trawl the floorspace.

getting a 3minute dl @ 2.0MB/s I can't find it on the Official>DevTracker at the moment, beans for the find. Any hints on what's in the update? edit: It would appear stable servers are still down.
