Dayz: the Road to Beta - PAX Aus Presentation

^ myth confirmed. 3pp makes you better at DayZ ;D and for those who say it's too hard to find a server, just click the align by server type in browser, until you see 1st Person at the top of the list. Then you can join the server. I play on 40player servers and rarely see anyone. Doesn't sound like much of a game changer to me if joining an empty server is keeping you guys away. As so many of the 1pp crowd look down on the PvP KoS scum and see PvE and environment interaction as some panacea, and acknowledge that 99% of the community is just out for your blood, what purpose would a populated server server provide but for you to shoot people without also being able to see your character? Also not sure how enforcing official servers to 1pp will ensure a first experience 1pp play unless they code it in that you can only join official (1pp) servers for a given period of time, because the option to join 3pp servers will still be there. Why reduce the option for 3pp players to use official servers too?

To quote the marketing handbook for all first year BSc. students, goals should be acchievable in terms of time and quality. So if you're consistantly underestimating your time frames, you're going to experience issues with client/consumer satisfaction, budget/cashflow etc... As Baker said, it's unfortunate and indeed, demoralizing, to see a failure to meet performance targets, although I have enjoyed the game from time to time in the interim. I'd like to see them knock it out of the park, but I'd also like to see (eventually) a polished and complete game. Within a reasonable time frame of course. I still feel the scope of criticism is still too small in terms of time. If these failures blow out into the long term then i may throw my hat into the complaint ring until then i'll just watch from the boundary between dark and light.

How many deer were there before the zombpocalypse? -
AFAIK all damage from fire-arms is based on the calibre. I believe that the calibre / shot dictates the damage, so a SKS should do the same damage as an AKM with identical calibre ammunition. 1hitkill will depend on portion of body impacted by round, and sometimes even what clothing items the bullet travels through, and what items may be in that clothing. I was of the opinion that a headshot is pretty much game over 99% of the time (for players). Second, while I believe all melee weapons do 'shock damage' (the factor which influences knockout), there is also a factor to do with health/state. So a person who is dying from thirst, hunger, cold and sickness should be easier to knock out than a person with All-systems-green. So i don't actually know any values, try the search engine, or check some youtube videos, keeping in mind these values can change from update to update, and take my words with a pinch of salt because I don't have a real understanding of the systems, just hearsay.

Again, given the stats aren't randomly sourced, there is no information on the surveyed subjects and/or their relationship to the DayZ population as a whole, and a string of other issues, the statistical basis for these polls is weak at best, other than as a form of entertainment or a dodgy figure for people to quote as a conversation topic.

I'm running at a lower spec system than you (making assumptions from limited system spec that you've listed in screenshot) and i average maybe 20fp, with up to 50 when not looking at cities/regions of complext geometry, and around 17fps when in or looking at cities. As many other threads have pointed out, (use search function) the game is Work in Progress (WIP) and as such is not currently set up in a way to take advantage of high-end or performance parts like you may have. Anecdotal evidence of other people with much poorer spec PCs running at higher stable FPS are not uncommon, especially when they have a single core CPU which I believe the game is only able to accomodate (correctly, multithreading is not currently supported to my knowledge). Give it time, and certainly don't go upgrading your PC for DayZ at this point.

you could always reduce the price on private shards or customer rented public shards what are 1pp only to incentivise the community holding it up.

Please don't feed the trolls. He's added nothing constructive and is obviously trying to draw people into silly litlte tiffs.

I don't know, it could be a clipping issue too. In ARMA3, if you try wedging yourself between a connifer and a rock, the game makes you do a jittery dance then propels you into the sky. Strange things in games.

I feel stupid like I did in DayZ 3 years ago.. please help!

There are a few wierd things that happen, though i'm still not sure exactly what's going on with ur binos. I remember back when M4's were all oer the place i killed two guys at NWAF one with M4 and ACOG/equiv. Whenever I wanted to zoom in with the ACOG, i'd be looking through the mounting brackets and not the actual optic >< No matter what i tried this still happened back then, and i think it may have persisted through logoff so i ended up dropping it (and finding another SKS > :( ) The more pressing question is, how are all us exhibitionists out there going to get our jollies off without needed to get up and personal and smell your sweat? -
Same here bro. Your rig is probably quite a bit more powerful than mine, although mine's not garbage, and yet we get the same performance. It's a state of (lack of) game completion and there's not really much you can do. You could try third party programs like the one that's active on General page 1 at the moment, but I'd advise caution in using third party programs by default. You could also try editing your config files, there are probably guides to this on the search engine, but again you're going to squeeze marginal gain (albeit at little cost) and the major performance enhancements can only come with time and input from BI developers.

Just in case you've forgotten your keybinds: Configure>Assignments>Infantry Weapons: Toggle raise weapon: (default space) to ready binocs once in hand Optics: (num 0 / rclick (second mouse button)) to level optic to eyes. if you are STILL experiencing issues, then you may want to risk dropping the item from inventory completely, then picking back up. If this fails then you are alone sir. -
A ferrari goes 0-100kph in a matter of seconds, but you don't go too fast if the track is unset bitumen. It's the development and unoptimisation of DayZ that leads to this performance drop, and it will (hopefully) be ironed out to acceptable levels come release. I'm sure you're hitting the three digit figures on games like CS or LoL, and something like that on the true AAA benchmark games. You could try turning down the usual culprits like Antistropic or shadow quality, although it's probably going to give you neglible gain for a marked decrease in fidelity, although it would seem the worse the fidelity the easier it is to identify players. Still, i don't like playing 'interactive-wax-painting-walking-psycopath-simulator'

Yes, the stuff is quite flammable, as are most fine particulate matter. That said it should be adequate to distract the domiciled dud as a distraction of only a second or two is generally sufficient to tip the scales if you have adequate cover/concealment along escape route. But yeah, don't try that at home kids (or throwing flour at the fire definitely don't do that), and also from what i've heard, don't smoke cigarettes at the asian colour parties (where they basically throw coloured flour by the handfull in large crowds) as several people allegedly lost all their face hair from igniting particulates.

like keno said, you've got to 'ready' your binoculars first (defualt space) use whatever key you use to raise/lower your weapon to safe/active state (prior to then raising to shoulder) so for binocs, the process shouldbe: place bino in hand press 'ready weapon' button (default space) raise optic to eye (default rclick) observe couples copulating at up to 1000m. You'll also notice you can't tear rags from items anymore: you need a sharp tool to do this now. Fastest way to acchieve this tool is an improvised knife (1slot). Look for stone-ground texture (grey with angular chunks of rock) then use your mwheel/spam use while looking at ground and select 'search for stones'. Repeat until stone is acchieved, and then on the same texture, use your new found clastic friend to 'craft improvised knife'. viola: 1slot man piercer that also rips objects and (i believe) can butcher meat/open preserved food. -
Yes you're correct, although the devs have again and again expressed their intention to preserve 3pp. I would also consider 3pp to be likely to stay given the input of effort that has gone into refining it, and removal would produce little positive gain. At the risk of digging into semantic and further derailing, if everyone has access to the same opportunity, that is in essence completely fair. It may be morally wrong, or perhaps of dubious profit, but indeed fair. It enters a grey zone when the community wills it unso, and certainly is not correct practice if there are rules, say for a certain event like CS;go tournaments excluding skywalking, but i would argue the negative to your point, to use another example of the game 'screencheat' where looking at your opponents screen to identify their position is a game mechanic.

Reasons to adjust field of view mid game?
q.S Sachiel replied to KenoSkir88's topic in General Discussion
I think Gews (sp?)- guy with mylittlepony avatar has good information on the magnifications. Again, anecdotally i may be correct in remembering him saying that the magnifications are not at correct zoom, reticules do not accurately model ballistic behavior etc... Although your issue seemed to have been the period between un/scoped. I'm not sure however, how FOV impacts - if at all - view when scoped. I'd assume that it's a fixed FOV for the scope, but not sure if a factor is applied per user FOV. -
No, you didn't buy a game with those features as active. You bought a game with 3pp and 1pp camera features. Also the moon is cheese, this supports my point because bacon. Get it? Lets try to preserve a shred of rationale to the attack on 3pp players please guys.

Anyone that ever played STALKER shadows of chernobyl would understand that the RPG is going to be the single most useless item in the game. It weighs like 25kg with two rounds, takes forver to load, has a large splash and an unpredictable flight path. It is essentially cheap trash for cheap trash to fire at cheap trash to make more cheap trash. Everyone's going to end up in shrapnel, nobody's going to have a good time, leave it and burn it. But seriously, short of duping, clan hoarding or lootsplosions there's very little chance you're going to find one and probably less chance you're going to receive a round. And if you DO get put down by one, you're either clustering like fools, holed up somewhere waiting for death, or will most likely never see another come your way again.

You guys should research the production life of the F35-A. Or maybe the Spruce Goose would be a better parallel should you wish to dig deep and see the doors it opened for society/advancement. My biggest fear for DZSA is that it may be suffering from feature creep, but ultimately I can't judge it until it comes out, or until a reasonable time has passed for me to start levelling justified frustration at it. Until then i'll still curse the usual bullshit rubber banding / glitching / clipping / lack of zombies / insert Alpha feature state here.

Reasons to adjust field of view mid game?
q.S Sachiel replied to KenoSkir88's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, i'm pretty sure they are from anecdotes. Again i don't play with this stuff so i couldn't care less, because dead is dead and i'm not abusing it. OP is probably looking at outdated youtube videos. It got quite a bit of attention recently, maybe June, if you wanted to sift through the search engine. -
Firstly, from digging through Scotch and Pugs, and because I don't care to know why or how Twitter works, it would appear that the quote was a response from Hicks to a suggestion by a single player. There is a string maybe 4 deep of other players giving similar suggestions or replying in a positive manner. So it would seem that the suggestion was a passing one, and there is little if any basis for this threads existence given that it indeed adds nothing to the 'debate, and due to the emotive and passionate response that it gives time and time again, since dayZSA inception, ad nauseam. It is therefore my suggestion that the thread be locked, and all closet 1pp players that so vocally provide their opinion (or more correctly: continue to attack the passive 3pp crowd) and return to playing DayZSA on 3pp servers as the server list suggests. *opens beer and waits patiently for Rick*

Reasons to adjust field of view mid game?

changing FOV gives a wide (essentially de-magnified) view or a close (magnified) FOV. It essentially allows you to either increase peripheral vision at the cost of depth, or narrows your view to make objects appear closer. I don't play with this, and I was of the belief that there was some change in the 0.5x updates that changed FOV 'on the fly' changes to a more static selection, but yeah, it's for people that want to be able to increase their view range. I could go looking for you, but i probably wont, for a youtube vid of a guy in ghilli kit and SKS up at NWAF. he's battling 5 or so guys and frequently changes his FOV to allow for better ironsight/hipfire target aquisition to great effect. edit: it would appear at a cursory inspection the patch was 0.57 that 'fixed' FOV slider 'abuse'. link (not one mentioned above): praise be the benevolent one. I'm not too sure on the physics/math behind it, but i feel it's something along the lines of decreasing the area of view, while objects of fixed volume being scaled to the cone of view. So increasing angle (FOV) makes the cone larger, and the object doesn't need to be as big as you're including more, while if you're reducing the cone of view (angle) then things must enlarge to fit to a fixed resolution (that you are running). it would appear that there's an inverse relationship to FOV:image size. ie: lowFOV=enlarged; hiFOV=demag. Again , this is just a guess. Ultimately, there is no need for the average player to be playing with their FOV over a period of time, it should be set to whatever makes you comfortable, and the option was originally emplaced to reduce motion sickness/visiual discomfort. It was not intended as a on the fly zoom.
