    VSS Is A Beast Weapon

Haven't tried, but before the last few days i've been out for a month or two... But i was of the impression that most weapons could 1hit kill irrespective? It was maybe .5x and i was 1hitting cows with .22 to the rump.

Yeah true that, i think stalker had it at 20round (also with auto feature). Will be interested to keep an eye out for it though.

    VSS Is A Beast Weapon

Yah, i found a 10round mag the other day in the barracks at Zeleno. Is this the max capacity that one can findatm?

    [Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization

Along that path though, with modding support, would loadouts be acceptable (lets ignore weapons and focus on equipment perhaps) where certain flaws balance perks. I'm not going to put words in your mouth, but like 'Lok mused - having a shirt or a cap is going to 'affect gameplay' but so slightly that the effect is quite minor. But would BI be accepting of more drastic or impacting equipment if they came with a flaw, say extra heat generation or something to act as a balance, if this kind of thing can be modded? Again, it's quite an open question, so the answer can only be limited, as i'm sure BI is reluctant at the moment to state what they will accept but is more likely to state what they will not as you alluded to, still, i'm interested to see what BI are happy to consider :P Essentially, i feel the mod community may want to charge for their work on their own servers, and BI could stand to act as a driving force for item / object diversity on the matter if a semi-liberal approach is taken. I'm not expecting a TF2 style marketplace, but with the already large diversity of items in game, and modding support to come it would be interesting to consider the full suite of possibilities. perhaps better left for another thread/when modding support/DayZ release comes closer to fruition.
  8. yeah, maybe :S Zombies do however appear to be spawning in randomly without any warrant, or so it would appear. Just did a run on Zeleno, and had a quick scan of the fields. I have an issue with 3D sound too atm, because couldn't see anything, and am hearing sounds to my right but only zombie ahead. The sound feels close and to right, but nothing is there. I advance towards Zeleno barracks, and suddenly there's three more undead wandering the fields i thought i just checked before. Not sure if i'm tired/losing my edge but it felt like these upright corpses just appeared out of thin air. But yeah, they're definitely there. And you can melee them well. And creeping up on them is a pleasure now too. Also anecdotes of them not responding at all to subsonic/suppressed fire in the VSS thread. Enjoying what i've seen of .59, this may well be the patch to re-invigorate attention and approval if not too many bugs come out of woodwork (of which i've already found one frustrating one - where cutting down trees seems to replace your axe with a long stick from the freshly felled tree)..

I finally got my wish :)

Yeah humans are definitely apex predators. I'm with herro on this. Even monkeys/Chimps/Gorillas don't have the average defense/offense phenotypic expression like horns claws etc, but they don't show much trouble when it comes to tearing their prey's limbs clean off. You can generally tell a lot of an animal by the facing of their eyes and the inside of their mouth/teeth/jaw. All the rest is gravy. Also, i'm still not completely happy with animal AI at the moment. Haven't played for a while though. The last time i found a herd of cattle i think in .58, i chased them literally back and forth with a stone knife. I've been told everybody in the herd follows the lead/alpha, and if it gets stuck everyone will stall too. This didn't happen. I literally ran backwards and forwards between two identical points where the cows would about face, maybe 5minutes running between points, for near on 30 minutes trying to hack at them with my stone knife. I wouldn't mind catching a kick to the face or something occasionally, but yeah, the AI still needs work.

    [Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization

If there are sufficient servers available providing a vanilla experience, and sufficient private servers which provide a near-to or vanilla experience (can't rely on this as private) then all this fearmongering and witchhunt finger pointing is a non-issue. Like SMoss said, it's up to the potential customer/consumer to decide whether a server or product is worth consuming. But that's only valid if the substitutes are available (ie: vanilla or near-vanilla)

    Stable .59 good things.

Is there some option to use Old/New UI? Might boot up .59 soon/before the weekend to have a squiz. edit: well just logged in. Though my sensitivity was fucked up because turning my head/body is like wading through glue. Turns out i'm running at 6-9fps around Kamenka shores. Graphics have also reverted to 'god-awful' to the point where trees are oil-painting sprites, my hands don't even render fingers and are bulky quake-like polygons, and i can't actually see inside of sheds, they render as boxes which i walk in to, then can see out from completely as if the walls aren't there (but can see edges and roof OK). Something borked for me :( I'll try again later. Did also Alt+Tab before join though so this may have wrecked something. Edit2: Wierd... i've played with graphics options (they all defaulted to Ultra High for some reason, despite rendering at ultra-low quality upon load in, although it was probably such low fps because it was trying to bring everything up to quality standards). I've set to High for most things, with normal for shadow+sky, normal FXAA and i'm getting maybe 45fps. Things are rendering a bit funny compared to what i used to get, there are some graphics artifacts, but other than that quite impressed at +20fps. Just loaded in and got killed by a guy with a machete and bucket hat as freshspawn. I"M HOME. melee combat and desync still seem to be a problem. World containers: Open wardrobes (found in most houses) store maybe 3x8 slots of items. Think you can only access from TAB UI (didn't check scroll menu, but don't get a cursor tooltip from looking at them). Not sure if placing objects in them makes those stored objects 'draw' on the shelves, but i did find propane tanks on the shelves that were not within the storage squares of the wardrobe. Closed wardrobes, fridges, ovens and bedsides don't appear to function as world containers. Haven't checked letterboxes. Will be a good alternative to barrels/tents as you can lock doors, and there's quite a few throughout the majority of urban areas.

Yeah, i'm hoping that BI and the 3p server hosts maintain their 'obligation' to provide vanilla experience. And i believe though the wording may not say it explicitly, that affecting gameplay means in an unfair manner. Like 'Lok said, having a clan shirt will protect you from the elements and may have a slight stat maybe to protect against rain, but have extra heat generation to compensate or something... looks like it will be case by case, and i'm sure everyone can agree that having a clan branded cap is very different from being given 3frag grenades, an M4 and 60 round mags on donation. It's just expecting people to be fair and just and reasonable, but BI needs to accept your proposal anyway, and will hopefully enforce it from both their end and the host's end for both ongoing oversight on allowed servers, and preventing non-allowed servers from doing unfair or 'illegal' things if they haven't been given acceptance.

    VSS Is A Beast Weapon

Interesting that a weapon can be 'damp' though... is this new? How does damp effect the weapon? Do other characteristics like heat / dust have effect at the moment?

Problem with my controls. . .

Strange indeed. Like i said, i haven't played .59 yet. Anyone else may be able to suggest something? Alternatively it could be a new bug. This happened for me in several other games, sometimes pushing the key that activates the motion that is stuck causes the program to stop the infinite loop. IE: you press W to move forwards, game thinks W key is still depressed. Press W key to stop because it registers a second input, and stops. This could be a quickfix for you, but may not solve the issue. Probably a bug from my guess then.

Another Hive Wipe for 0.59...? If so why?

Not every patch, probably not. But significant changes to items and mechanics warrants a complete flush of previous data. Looking at the multiple wipes we've had already, the presumably mid-stage development progression, and the historical wipe agendas of other Early Access titles, i'd anticipate many more to come. Sure as day though, you can at least expect a day0 release wipe, as they'll set the playing field level for when it does come out. Have at you!

Problem with my controls. . .

This could be desync, but although i haven't tried out the new patch, i didn't think there was an autorun feature. How long do you run for? A few seconds, or until infinity? IF it's until infinity then i'm guessing you've either got a stuck key or there has been an autorun implemented. IF its a few seconds then its probably just desync and this is due to either alpha, your connection or a combination. Are your keys sticking by chance? Go into notepad, hold down the W key or move key you use, and see if it registers a sticking key. If it is sticking, try disconnecting and re-connecting your keyboard. If you drink around it and spill shit on it regularly then consider cleaning it. Alternatively, you may be double-tapping certain keys and it may force an 'always on' state. Again i didn't think this happened for movement, but it does happen for things like L-Alt (move head), where doubletapping L-Alt will make your mouse control only your neck, not your hips as they do normally.

I finally got my wish :)

I forgot that bit. Yeah there was a shot, and the deer weren't looking at the camera/direction of wolves (to their left/rear) so there was something else. @Herro. Oh for sure, if it's just you then they're gonna creep, but if there's a few of you, they'll try to break you apart and go for the weak. I'm all for smart/'authentic' (to risk the word) AI, but i'm not expecting much. As long as they can develop past a range-barrier aggro where they beeline for you then begin attack animation a, repeat attack animation A, then i'll be happy. But even if this is how it works, hopefully they'll still be a threat or at least change the dynamic if not in a woefully comical way. It was a cinematic, so could be completely or fully staged, but if the wolves were stalking the elk/deer, and made the executive decision to start the charge because the prey spooked, and the wolves saw their opportunity window closing (and changed course to attack the player in the open, who was closer and gave flee) then i'm quite impressed. I'll reserve judgement. Beans to you sir, and Jonathan for perhaps finding a hidden something... edit because ninja: yeah the survivors and competent dogs are generally semi-wild like in Vietnam, or enough of a mishmash mutt variety that they don't have soft teeth and brains. Still, surviving off a limitless stream of trash and scraps and finding your own food are two different things. Also, i am skeptical also of this video. It shows some interesting things, but i feel it's at least semi staged (at least from the free-view camera angles).

I finally got my wish :)

The problem with the average dog is that they are not competitive. Cats are completely different, with almost every one being a killer with a strong ability to survive on average. But domestic dogs are generally bred for a single purpose, are 'loved' and physically unfit. There'd be a few out there, but strength lies in numbers with dogs. And packs are generally quite xenophobic. I'd put dogs down the list on survival in general. But i'm talking about labs and purebreds and what not. If it's some ragtag poor town full of already half feral mutts, it may well be a different story.

I finally got my wish :)

Dogs don't use ambush in general. They tend to employ a panic and segregate tactic. Not much of a chance either way, but yeah: running from dog/wolf is not the way to survive, especially if in the dead open. Still, cinema. Also, wolves aren't almost extinct due to their lack of ferocity or cunning. They have been actively targeted by humans due to these qualities that make/made them an extreme threat to man, either directly or indirectly due to harassing livestock. I was more critical of the prey behavior honestly, but it's hopefully going to add a different mechanic and behavior to the forest wanderer. That said, i do hope the AI is robust enough, perhaps similar to that of STALKER. I'd prefer not to see a WoW style behavior where they openly attack and have small or static 'idle' behavior areas of influence. A food/fear influence would be good, where the AI is weighing up its numbers and requirements to the threats/opportunities it can perceive.

    [Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization

From the wording of the document listed, BI reserves the right to accept or deny monetisation based on the proposed method and system of the private shard owner, and the use of the monetisation method is only allowed where approval is given. (my words from interpretation). The system is new, which means they're investigating the possibilities. That and they've stated that they only need accept not blatantly lay out a ruleset. It's obviously a young, yet evolving system so maybe pitch a few suggestions? edit: as below, if it's purely for argument/discussions sake (i.e: pure hypothetical) and there's nothing behind it in the way of your being a server owner or modder, then the response may be less concrete indeed. ___ Nothing specifically against the low-posters, but several already in this post coming out of the woodwork with some knee-jerk and possibly aggressive responses. Lets keep this out of the graveyard, only 2 pages in. @freak: Again it is open wording, but dot point 1 suggests this may be allowed, however the term "Limiting access to only paying players is allowed." is not specific on whether this limiting access is to the server or to the cosmetic object, specifically. Again, i don't represent BI, just my 2c.

    [Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization

I think you might need to go over the whole BI document again, friend. That said, and in addition to the public (official) server plans, I do hope that both public-public and public-official servers remain open in sufficient capacity to cater for the player base, should the majority of private servers adopt monetisation practices.
