You've got to find the unicorn in the debug forrest to the North, capture and prepaire it for sacrifice. build a hut, kill the unicorn and then paint the top of your door with it's blood. Rumor has it that Dean Hall personally inserts himself into each and every server, and takes the firstborn. This is your only remedy. REPENT -
I thank god every day there's people to shoot in dayZ. But then i live life minute to minute, life to life in dayZ not to some strict code, unless I've actually set out with the mindset to RP a particular, restrictive style of play. You play like a friendly survivor. Pigeonholing and classification of playstyles is for people who think they are superior over others and need to define everyone else so as to put themselves above the rest.

BF4 is the old-persons' walk assist of the gaming world. Good god that game was terrible. Should not be used as any kind of optimisation/performance benchmark. ever :(. I do find it intersting though that Multithreading hasn't been taken advantage of at all (minimally) recently despite the tech being available for some time. Why is this? Coders/devs not up to speed with the architecture, or just release pressures/product cycles etc?... Not quite multithreading related, but towards the end of the x360/ps3 lifespan, they were flogging the hardware for all it was worth in the games department, but that's a single unit - pc hardware is a bit more variable, so is it the component conflicts&interactions that make it hard as well for PC?

F-trust. Nothing gets results like cold hard fear. And if they're all sold out, offer them some lead! Interaction starts and stops at the end of a barrel, and anyone who tells you otherwise is chewing on worms.

The dev's commented that adding animals to the server increased the load, and that they had to fine-tune the numbers to get a reasonable result. No, i don't see 40p for some time, and as other have said, total-2 in berezino no matter the peak.

yup. had a guy the other day. i had a pick he had a mosin. i said hey how you doing. he waved, did the wiggle but wouldn't talk. I told him it was uncouth to not reply and i was suspcicious. He let me follow him for a while before he shot me and took my m9 mag. I regained consciousness, went to find him, and he kept silent shooting at me until his last shot hit :( it was a bad day.

several FTP games which have a personal account levelling system had several wipes deep into beta. MWO as one example.

yea i logged out all cool, saw my gear on login, accidently pressed 'play now' and joined aserver full of like 5 players. Pressed ESC before loading/please wait and got back to title, joined a 39/40 then freshspawn. Also managed to get a magic pudding ring-pull tuna tin by holding it in hands and mashing F/use at a water spout and i'd drink and eat until my hearts content. Then i got stuffed :(.

Because it feels like everyone's comparing it to the mod, which makes me think they've only just hopped on the SA wagon and want it like mod now, without seeing the progression that's taken place towards a finished product? Didn't mean to sound like an elitist, at least in that part of the comment ;) -

Bohemia Interactive (dayz creaters/dev's) do not have anything to do with hacking. You want Battle Eye. Use the search engine, there was some stuff posted regarding information and denouncing your neighbours etc... also, there is a sticky for posts/threads like these at the top of the General list. :) -

YUP. but then we wouldn't see the benefits from extra cash injection. There's bound to be some that bought pre-access that will dislike it on release, but I'm willing to bet that 90% of these "why u no giev game yet" types will do backflips in their sleep when the finished product is released. Honestly people, really... BI has a bit to lose here, they've got a string of excellent mil-sim games and industry exposure, but this is a risk they've taken on diversification of product - EVEN MORE SO now that they've publicly stated there will be a PS4 release. Dean also has this level of exposure, but he's been the poster child for DayZ (perhaps rightfully so) since inception. can you imagine what would happen to his career, and that of others if he just jumped ship and the game crumbled to shit? This isn't SEGA/Gearbox or EA: multimil/billion dollar companies that are generally faceless and despite spurning their consumers, the drones still lap up their shit from the trailing papers that are stuck to their feet as they fumble from release product to release. If DayZ fails, that is a big deal for Dean and perhaps many BI staff. Your pessimism arguably keeps the mercury level up, but at the end of the day, your words are all just hot puff. The proof will be in the pudding, and people stand to gain a lot, or fail miserably in this endeavour. If they fuck up, they've got 2million screaming mouths from the PC crowd, a PS4 community that's just gonna say 'wut' and a whole legion of XBone fanboys that will be squirting all over their rooms in glee, and won't waste a second to brag and boast regarding the dismal failure of DayZ and PS4. The middle-ground scenario is that they release a worthwhile product that is either dumbed down or not critically received come release. I think this is more likely than a failure, but still rather improbable, given my current appraisal of the game. People should need to post screenshots of their hours played before starting these kinds of threads ... -

First it was 'money doesn't make a great game' then it was '2mil products sold at 30$ ea where is my game' then it was 'rocket's standing in the way' then it was 'BI is poorly managed'. Which is it? is it any? A strong captain will surely aid the ship, but one captain does not a ship make. As others have said, who's going to take his place? Who's in there now? Do you even know the management structure of BI/Dayz or the development structure, or are we all just talking out of our asses here? Looks like another 'where's my game' thread disguised in tasty salad. -

Yeah sounded like it. Hopefully when they do implement it, they allow for variable ROC of time, so that you could have say, 1hour day - accel to dusk - slow to 2hour dusk - accel to night - 1 hour night - accel to dawn (sit 2hr) then rinse repeat. You could cut out some of the steps by starting/stopping your server at specific times ie: start closer to dawn and have a slower sun-down and then alter your timelapse... May be something for the suggestion forum, but variable options like this would allow allow you to distinguish your server a little more i reckon. -

spitfires attack bombers out of the sun to conceal their approach tigers stalk downwind with a low profile and silently to conceal their approach people don't jump around playing bagpipes when they stalk/hunt/want to kill you. If someone is of the mind to kill you and they start interacting, they're either trying to flush you and most likely operating as part of a team/pack, or they're just toying with you pre-meal. Don't forget those mean-spirited stairs that are only out for your blood!

I know what your message was, but you're confusing rule with 'preferred play style', whatever your opinion of KoS. These RP servers aren't carebear servers, people are still just as suspicious and malicious. Everyone also seems to overlook that KoS is a legitimate RP style anyway (as is anything that doesn't involve hacking and to a lesser extent, exploiting). Enforcing such expectations is currently not possible and against TnC, not to mention an illogical step for someone to make inside a sandbox game. The two are completely incomparable. This is not minecraft. I'd appreciate it if people stopped tarring and feathering with the same brush, particularly when KoS and hackers are concerned >.>. You project your bias and ignorant distaste for KoSers blatantly, and without logic: "Most people on servers where you are supposed to interact aren't upset at defeat so much as upset at some guy who sits on a hill and pops their head off for no reason other than to amuse himself with how superior he is at taking out easy targets.". Maybe i'm starving. Maybe i'm rp'ing as a maniac/mute/mandefendinghisturf. Maybe i don't want to take the chance on you, and you caught me in a position where i felt threatened,maybe you got in before me and took my stuff. There's a plethora of reasons why someone will shoot you without interaction. Go corner a fox and see how he reacts. Stick your hand down a rat-hole and see what happens. Shit, you could even startle the most docile of creatures and still come out worse off. All that aside, sometimes in life people just die. Again, in scenarios listed, you're simply upset that you're dead and he's not. Don't give me this 'we're all friendly on RP servers' shit. Maybe i'll start creeping up behind you and scream BOO the next time i decide to snuff you from existence. Is that enough interaction? The very fact that i'm there should be interaction enough for you. /rant Do i really need to go make signs for the pro_KoS movement and start a movement in Berezino? Do you WANT me to picket your server? All this forgetting that KoS make up a strong portion of the community. we are many. we are legion.

I thought there was time acceleration? Or was this not implemented yet to speed up the day-night cycle over the course of a server uptime? -
You kind of hinted in the upper part of the post, but when navigating I just use the compass to give me a bearing then move in that direction. You move in a straight line in RL too, but that's being pedantic (i'm guessing you're talking about the ease of taking your hand off the mouse and pressing W), there's also frequent times in DayZ where you'll need to take a course-correction to avoid obstacles, or if you're not religously following your bearing. IRL, in a smaller zone I use compass to give me bearing, identify landmarks to map that are in that bearing and then make tracks for the landmark. You shouldn't be walking with your compass out for extended periods of time unless you're skeptical of accuracy/EM interference in an area (of which there is 0 in dayz i think). Also, as far as compass and map are concerned, yeah if you want an accurate bearing get out the protractor/compass, but just eyeballing the bearing then taking a rough estimate and equating that to the compass in hand is all you should really need. Unless you're transporting organs the extra 5 minutes travel time (unless you really fkd it up) isn't the worst inconvenience... I gravitate towards my targets fairly well but then i've got pretty good map knowledge and experience. IMO, you should either be able to see plan-view of compass with a hotkey doubletap as in Arma (doubleK) or you should need to bring the bastard up to eye level and aim through the sight to get your bearing, or both. Also, as has been mentioned, you can keep your gun up and look at compass by Inventory(TAB)>Rclick Compass>Inspect compass (while cover is open) and the graphic on the tool-tip will display correct bearing at time of inspection. DayZdb map and other sat-maps are only useful for correlating texture to location, maybe also for ID'ing cryllic/town names, and even then you need a general idea of where you are. The in-game map has an advantage in that it: a) tells you players on server ; B) allows you to use your sound to remain aware of threats that may approach ; c) is arguably more accurate/helpful due to topographic contours. If you know your bearing and can identify terrain, the in-game map is perfect. The only real draw-back is that it requires piecing together but i enjoy the challenge. Map is broken into quadrants which are broken into halves respectively. Combine relevant halves>quadrants>map.
