Is It International Crazy Person Weekend?
q.S Sachiel replied to Zombie Milkman's topic in General Discussion
yeah ok but plenty of times ive clubbed someone to death ingame while in tight spaces and such, but ive never really been killed by punches while with an ak. bolt actions maybe even semis thats a very possible situation imo, but yea ive still had some what the moments while in melee, like a girl that wouldnt take hits with a bat while she cut me up with a scythe. in my experience knockout with 3 punches is pretty rare. They knock down, but not out. I've taken plenty of shotguns from poor players (well probably a handful of times) who failed to connect in the first 1-2 and then i took it from them to use it on them. They got up in my experience and then i put them down, but knocking out, maybe you're really low on water/food? You didn't specify what gear you had on you, now i read over it, so if you had anything less than an automatic i'd be inclined to say that hand-to-hand is a legitimate tactic and not particularly difficult to see beating you or me, without being there and watching it or experiencing it. And to re-emphasize i don't knock people out, nor brawl, but i've seen enough concussions or otherwise, though sometimes people just don't get up because they expect the other person to let off. I'll definitely admit though that it feels somewhat annoying or imbalanced at times, but this shouldn't really be a problem unless they catch you offguard or in a tight space. If you see freshies making tracks for you in the fields/streets just show them the door. keep moving if you can, because in previous versions it was quite difficult to hit players at all, less so were they moving about, or running away from you. -
Is It International Crazy Person Weekend?

I know your ruse, Ramsay Snow. You've got a good man's bits to prove for your deceit! That said, most people don't let me get close enough to trick them, but i did like the snail on crack metaphor. Also lul @ extremely difficult to knock people out with hits from fist. Man i'm no Mike Tyson but I know how easy it is to kill or knock people out cold from a solid punch to the jaw or a king hit (no i don't slam people, just saying lul). Lasting more than 30seconds in a heated confrontation is harder than knocking someone cold. All you gotta do is get them to the floor then stomp ala UFC. I avoid freshies like the plague, because they're either going to get after your kit, or they're a decoy/spotter for the guy with his shotgun up your ass. IF they get close i off them. -
yeah ok so we're on teh same page. Leaving them in packs i'm not really for... but then you could just hide them under bigger things / honey pots like multiple bean tins or MainROT when they come out ;) ;) ;)

i think he was referring to broadcasting how many games one has pirated. Yeah look, i've seen figures several years ago saying that consoles together far trump pc sales. I can still really only see this being a good thing for the game. Whether BI makes money from the divergence is another matter.

Have nothing better to do? Take the western highway.
q.S Sachiel replied to hotcakes's topic in General Discussion
Don't trust this man. He is spy. Route is dotted with dangers, contains no food and is a hellhole to navigate. I'm also not parked up around Kamenka barracks and ran into over 80players at once on the same server. Western route is death i say! But seriously, running on the train tracks is pretty bad from what i've seen. Lots of people do it and they're great for target practice. -
Yeah great i've heard the statistic, and i'm about that age anyway. I see quite a few kids waiting round the block for Halo and CoD and several other franchises on day-zero release. You may have noticed that i'm not for the franchise, but i was making the point that despite my dislike for it, and what i feel to be a bland, recycled franchise, people still lap it up without batting an eyelid. But people have always enjoyed pulp, whatever form it may come in. To each their own.

friend of yours? ;)

just so long as the bastard Z's don't path around or through the wire thanks to this new navmesh dealio.

Yes. The very first to make that screaming weasel show his full potential. If you can light your beer, well you're probably russian. skip straight to 13:50 for the lulz should you so desire. Please excuse the updated graphics :( you should have a hard time lighting anything under 40% ethanol to my knowledge, that's around 80proof. hehe.
-
@deathlove Yeah don't get me wrong i wouldn't want to be in front of it, but with 40 people on the server, if you can't knock shit down or crush things you're not doing a whole lot more than chugchugchug ;) Also saw a similar video, may have been from the same show, where a guy slaps armored plates on hit truck and goes on a rampage, has several rifles allegedly shooting from gunports that he's cut in his car, and ploughed through a school and several other buildings before, much like this, disabling himself and getting shot by cops.

Are ragdolls physics server or client sided?
q.S Sachiel replied to Awruk's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, but at least when the player is removed and a ragdoll near-instantaneously put in place it give you a quick visual cue that you've killed a man. Rainbow 6 - Ravenshield did them very well, and many lols were had when tango's proceeded to kiss their asses. -
What can you access in your inventory when you're handcuffed?
q.S Sachiel replied to Robert Neville's topic in General Discussion
PFFF cheers man. I'm no Rex Hunt. 1 less slot in my inventory! -
Beautiful tank destroyer! Lethal as all hell, just look at the bloody diameter on that gun! Good to see them putting soviet concrete to good use too. Something like this would be mostly novelty, and as practical as it would be at protecting you from fire, you'd be attracting everything with half a decibel of hearing for miles to come. you'd also crawl about the place all day long, but as long as you couldn't fire the main gun and had to get out to refuel i've got no issues for the most part. You'd probably need a high calibre or armor piercing round to punch through that tank's armor, though if you wanted to chance standing in front of it, maybe you could get a shot or two through the view-port, or have the turret hatch permanently open to allow vulnurability from above. the PTRS/PTRD used a 14.5x114mm AP round (at least for PTRS) and it was very effective at neutralising targets through the view-port and you could probably use it to hit fuel tanks or rear-components. I've heard rumor that M16 can pierce certain APC armor, but with sloped and composite armor you're going to see less bang for your buck, although certain TD/Half-track platforms were exposed heavily from the rear/top and were designed to be used in support of other forces, which in turn protected their exposed flanks. If they introduce tanks, i'd want them to up the physics so i can push through buildings and crush over cars and the like, which would probably be extra work on that front, so i think it'll just end up being cars, because who likes seeing their tank stop dead against matchstick russian houses?
-
Barbed wire maybe, but i wouldn't want to crawl through constantine that's for sure :'( shit will rip.you.open.

@ ultimate: you say that the PC crowd are a lot more 'hardcore' and 'rarely exit their rooms'. While your take on the PC master race is noted as opinion, wouldn't this make the PC master race a far more discerning group than what your opinion of the console generation would be (CoD kiddies need not be included in this statistic). I've always found the PC market rather critical of games as a whole while the console market appears far more succeptable/quick to purchase franchise lines and new releases at day of drop. The only group of people i've seen blocking streets and baying for blood on day one release has been Halo purchases and Iphone purchases. And Bieber lovers of course. I'd say this cynicism that people attribute to fanboyism/master class jokes for the PC crowd, in general, is really a symptom of this discerning and selective purchase behavior. Also, while there is a substitute market for games in the console class, because a proportion of PC users (most console players have PC's and frequent Xbox pirated versions can be found on certain pirate websites) do not legally acquire games and pirate it, wouldn't developers stand to lose the remaining fraction by denying release to that platform? It's like non-renewable power companies saying "oh well fuck this renewable energy business, it's reducing our efficiency and profit margins so we're just going to close up shop and go broke as fuck". While this may be a final outcome, and may also be used as a market manipulation tactic, to drive a point for certain users/consumers, it's not a viable business strategy to just cut your customer base further. That's cutting off your nose to spite your face. Surrendering market share does not reduce costs or losses. Different industry, but let's look at Metallica, where the joke was that they couldn't afford to diamond plate their Jacuzzi. These people are far from poor, and while the activity is illegal and it does undoubtably cost them money (and other people gain profit 'off their back'), these large companies such as EA are losing more money due to poor strategy/product and consumer relations than they do to pirating. To this end, I conclude that in my opinion, I do not feel that a movement to consoles is a reaction to piracy, but more an opportunity to capture a further market with different behaviors and requirements, further spread their marketing and advertising appeal (as it seems lockiing in for timed/exclusive play can get a dev instant monetary gratification, while allowing for cross-platform release may get your dev-house more 'street cred' and appraise further down the track).

What can you access in your inventory when you're handcuffed?
q.S Sachiel replied to Robert Neville's topic in General Discussion
how then does one access keys to get themselves out of handcuffs? Or are keys just for everyone else who isn't cuffed? In that case there's zero reason for me to carry keys, and just wriggle out once cuffed? -
Anti tamper could be cool, non lethal but just wrecks certain things in the pack.. didn't think of that one! And as far as explosives/mines/traps being OP / requiring no input from user: The owner needs to source, create and place the explosive, possibly with a chance of failure / critical failure, and the parts can be suitably rare. Visual and audio cues can be used as a handicap for the 'prey': tripwires strung across entrances suitably visible ; pressure plates on floor ; different textures of leaves/ground/floor materials covering snares/pits/etc ; shavings clippings or tailings of materials discarded while making the device around that area, as well as a timer that ticks rather than an instant defuse, twang of a snapping string, creaking of restrained gravity traps. All traps require some kind of trigger, which could be countered by the 'prey' with applicable tools. Again: this takes up time and resources, and may not be possible within the scheme and scope of the current engine / whatever but from a practical point of view, we've pretty much got everything we need now to make them in game. rope + grenade=ied / shovel + sharpened sticks = pitfall / rope x5 + stick = snare net/LPG burner + gas tank + can + bullets/shells +/- fragments = IED. screwdriver / pliers / crowbar / wrench / spanner / hacksaws / rope / rocks / sticks / bayonets, and more could all be used as suitable defuse devices. I sure as hell know that i'd be putting some snares out across game trails or around warrens and such, and more lethal forms of trap would be great for securing 'owned' areas, defending sniper nests, and thinning the ranks of zombies, and i'd sleep a lot better on the floor above knowing that there's at least a few sheets of corrugated iron and broken glass downstairs to warn me of intruders, if not some kind of physical impediment to their access. Lots of people dislike traps and IED's as witnessed here, but that's the whole point of them (less so for traps) to frustrate and demoralize the enemy/aggressor. That said, if any sort of traps are implemented i'd only endorse their use with suitable counters.
-
Damn, that would have been a fun little toy :) beans for your efforts sir(s).
-
What about using loot as bait for said traps? I'm not really for leaving bombs and such in backpacks throughout barracks, and i'm sure a beartrap would stand out on an asphalt road, but when people like yourself say 'trapping loot' do you mean putting things 'inside' the object, or what?
-
TBH i'd say he's probably not making shit up, or that at least it's somewhat possible. morphine bit i don't know about but.. The whole point of employing landmines is to channel the enemy, and the mines are 'supposed' to be broadcasted to enemy and friendly alike (with locations of each individual mine recorded for later disposal, which is rare). The enemy is supposed to see the minefield, and redirect around it. This allows you to redirect enemies the long way, slowing logistics or staggering their entry to the fight, or channel them into areas where you intend to ambush and destroy them. Sure you can try navigating or deactivating the field, but you run the risk of detonation or being shot at in the process (and it's really a bad idea to do this one). Having a tent out of the way, but visible enough with a blatantly obvious access route and a possibly more subtle access route that is not trapped would mean 9/10 times people take the obvious route and break a leg. Not really too hard to figure out, and not too improbable either. Area of approach could be cut down by trees (which were harder to walk through in the mod) or large rocks which further reduce the obvious and easy access that most people would take, because it appears easy. If it's out in the middle of a field, then no 2 traps won't work, but if they're butted up against a rock wall with trees and rock outcrops about the place well...
-
hmmm. if you did everything right and there's no ammo in there, may be a new bug. If you dragged and dropped the arrows, maybe you accidently dropped them, missing the bow and dragging them out of inventory screen (onto ground). Maybe check around you, or try again if you've logged out since :S. You should get a sound though like a string being pulled back, or a knife over slate when the arrows are loaded.
-
I'm guessing the bow is on your back/in your hands. Check it out, it should now have a long silver arrow on it. You load the arrows, it makes a slight scraping sound like you've drawn them on, but i don't think it lists the amount or icon of the arrows. They should be there, and ready to fire. It's a bit odd I know, I only played with the improv bow the other day. Get up nice and close, you're going to find that your arrows like to fly off everywhere but where you want them. Also try to recover them from the ground/beast should you be able to (sometimes they disappear or fly off to nevernever land)

Fire needs three things to start and to survive: Heat (energy) Fuel Oxygen Oxygen is very dangerous in pure-form and will allow for an extremely fast combustion rate (read explosion) but by its self, it is not 'flammable'. It facilitates combustion of chemicals. It is known as an 'oxidiser'. You're right though that the other gasses (mostly Nitrogen) limit the rate of combustion at the surface. Hydrogen gas + O2 + Heat __>Fire (energy release)___> water Carbon + O2 + Heat ___>Fire(energy release)___>C02 Pure oxygen is also toxic below certain values of sea-level (which is one reason why Helium is mixed in diving tanks). I believe it has something to do with solubility in blood (air bubbles in hydraulic systems are bad mmkay). You're better off gassing people with it. Very euphoric death, until bubbles start slamming into your heart valves. Yup, sorry but you've been lied to ;) Fuel barrels and LPG tanks don't readily explode, and cars falling from bridges also don't burst into flames too often. That being said, if you puncture a LPG tank in your hands or near you, it's going to throw sharpnel about, and if the hole is big enough it may well just start flying around the room and slam into you a few times too many for your liking. Balloons explode, if you want something like a bomb you need to work a little harder. Grenades, or home made explosives using propellant from shotguns or something wouldn't be too bad. Black powder and nails/bullets packed into a tin can should make someone rather upset. I dont' think it's quite 'overbuilding/engineering' it's just the way things work. That's why your kettle has a hole in it, so it doesn't pop. Now the steam in a kettle shouldn't get the pressure up THAT high, but as a safety and practical measure it works. Bombs are designed to throw fragments everywhere, or have a reasonably symmetrical blast (unless theyr'e shaped like C4/cutting charges). Most stuff you'd find around your house to blow up would pop one or two ways i'd expect (please don't try this :P ) On topic (heavily derailed by me) I'd like to see some the last of us IEDs and such, and this is a game so reality doesn't really mean that much. Lets have exploding LPG tanks and the like, but given we've got rope and grenades a tripwire wouldn't be out of the ball park.

no i don't and neither did they. That's why i had it in apostrophe, because they said that the devs were against it but didn't give any source, which i found odd given there were beartraps in mod. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/209493-booby-trap-your-gear/ was the location that i'm describing: a_ruttle, on 30 Aug 2014 - 06:32 AM, said: Now if what he said was true, you could read into that and still think 'booby trapped gear - no, booby trap general -yes.' and then just lay death around your stuff... but i haven't followed it that closely.

road flares are red. chem lights i've found in blue, green, yellow, white, red. There was a bug recently, where gunshots didn't register but the bullet still came out (so perfectly silent mosin shots lets say, no pewpew of a silencer or nothing. Just silent death). This could have happened to you, or they bludgeoned you, or a zombie got you through a wall, or you're a victim of deathbybeingthere where your body gives up all hope and detonates your legs liver and lungs. You could have been hacked by an invisible player but i think it's more likely that either someone bug shot you , or you suffered spontaneous death. The chemlight turning on suggests that someone was nearby, although with the current lighting capacity, sometimes walls hide and then re-allow light to pass through or against them, though i have seen this more with sunlight/shadows than with static lights/chemlights. Welcome to the forums.
