I like the idea of fixed attachment and zero attachment ARs (read attachment=optic) that you guys are throwing around. Reduces flexibility while providing a preferred range/engagement type. without optics - locked to close-med range. Honestly just as effective, just requires a bit more focus, and ghetto style ironsights. with optics - disadvantaged at close range (aiming). You still get a little boost, the weapon is unique, but you can't ever switch it to a lower or higher magnification.

Never understood this correctly though. Is this a single ray, wedge or cone? because i've crossed paths with them several times out in a field and they don't come after me. Other times i've crossed with a solid wall in between (no gaps in lower section to roll through) and they come screaming like a bat out of hell. The times they don't see me they're usually like 10mil on my screen (far) and also slightly up topography, so not sure if it's like a single ray that you can't break.

Nope. I disagree (although you expresed you don't really care). The admiration of the 'manequin' is in context with the surroundings and actions taken. Admiring your character's appearance is just as enjoyable to some as admiring the animations (or critiquing them for arguments sake). Contrasting your character with scenery and different textures, screen-captures, etc. If you've ever seen any advertisement, marketing material or Design proof you'd know that the product is put in context with it's surroundings and/or application to make it appear more attractive. Architectural designs add in trees and a front lawn to make it appear more 'real', car billboards have the car on the road, driving past attractive scenery... beer ads have semi-naked women holding the beer between their soft skin. The list goes on. How many trouser ads do you see where the clothes are floating on a white (or translucent black as it may be) backdrop? I think you're just being facetious though. You also get a better degree of motion of camera angle than you do in inventory. So it really doesn't invalidate anything, you just don't seem to agree (or care). -

I was more alluding to the possibility that you'll draw a throng of would be stalker-killers to your server harder than a beacon on Mar Sara. Malta, hmm i wonder what that time difference is :S -
i'll use the crossbow no worries. A little light on the damage but at least it shoots straight... Firing the improv bow feels like movie spoiler If rabbits were more abundant and maybe birds then slingshot would work fine. Also 1hit unconscious +/- chance to kill on headshot with no head-gear.

haven't seen pistol silencers for some time, but i haven't checked the tent-cities. None in barracks or prisons from my recent checks. Haven't seen any heli crashes recently to confirm/deny. you may be right, may be due to devs removing them from tables to increase occurrance of more useful/working gear found in similar spawns, but that's just my speculation (f they have been removed)...

exploiting inherrent weaknesses of the game without changing code shouldn't be a punishable offence. It's like exploiting a legal loophole, or otherwise - questionable behavior, looked down upon but not especially 'wrong'. Just like flashing the boxes in front of B doors which blinded everyone in tunnels in cs1.5, skiing in tribes, entering skyboxes in many games, hiding inside of 'downed' objects like felled trees or rubble in Arma/Dayz, etc... The action highlights the need for change in development/alpha stage. If they can do it whilst playing the game and no 3p programs/code then have at it (and fix it). name and shame away shellbro

care care care ;) If they really wanted to iron out 3pp and restrict it slightly while still allowing for a fuller view (at least re peaking over things): they could just approximate box containing the player, extending farther back than the camera already is (front of box = rear player, head height = top box) and the camera sits at the back of the box, in the 'ceiling'. So you wouldn't have as much angle over your head, you'd be farther set back, and this would slightly widen your view, but would shrink with each stance (as ceiling approximated at head height). Or you could do what ARMA3 kind of does by fish-bowling the view slightly towards the edges, or Depth of Field bluring the periphery. But these, once again, just discourage 3pp usage, and don't directly encourage 1pp. I'd personally incentivise 1pp rather than disincentivising 3pp. You could do this by having certain loot only appearing in HC modes, or a different, intangible benefit. Gotta encourage the playerbase, as the server hosts aren't going to put them up just to have them sit idle and empty. -

@ grief, arma3/dayz already has this to some degree in that you can only really get fine-accuracy with 1pp. The crosshair sits at centre of screen, while your weapon sits below the camera angle, so there is an angle of error between xhair and trajectory (amplified at range). You also need 1pp to accurately identify whether you're going to clip walls or ledges with your round given parallax error like effect (more so in Arma3, where your gun and xhair appear over a ledge/lip but the bullet still catches on the ledge, even when in 1pp). I also don't think that the depth of field blur happens when you're in 3pp, as the camera isn't clipping through the foliage/grass due to it being elevated above that point (but you'll still see the camera jump around spastically on small movements where the offest is blocked from behind or on rotation, ie: hiding in trees, rotating cam while standing near walls/corners etc...) 3pp also rewards players more in that it reduces the screen sway when running/moving without you disabling it in options and then losing it in 1pp. I only got told this recently, but have forced myself to use it as I feel more uncomfortable when gliding around like an ice-skater, esp when not moving particularly fast. You can get around in3pp battles if you really gotta, but ironsights/scoping reduces you to 1pp and you hit jack shit in 3pp hip fire for the most part, unless you're nice and close. -
the problem with skills is that while it does encourage the player to develop them, and may give an incentive to stay alive longer, it may also work against gameplay in the long run by becoming tedious or having certain levels / advantages be rather exclusive. That said, I completely encourage ideas to get people to survive longer. Personally, I think that they need to find a way to get people to work together, and work together against others. I still dream of the day that large groups of organised para/mil groups rule the map (without being server owners and general elitist clanners) -NB not a generalisation; where these rag-tag groups discriminate on gear or ability and work against the other lesser groups, or for them against the stronger groups, ala Freedom and Duty factions. I know the 'factions' bit is discouraged by many, i'm talking an improv, casual thing here, which would require vast amounts of co-operation from individuals, so it's going to be restricted to clans or friend-groups without private hives enforcing rules on people, which I am not really interested in. Perhaps having weapon proficiency in that the longer you spend with it (use) the better you understand it's mechanics, and with hopefully future increased weapon degredation you can repair it to a higher level only if you've spent time with that weapon in your life... Subtle things like this as you suggest, rather than just being 'skin X learn Y build Z' and then you rinse repeat just so that you can get Z item which is some OP or high-tier kit. That said, if a progression system is introduced, i'd definitely want a more freestyle elder scrolls/runescape styled thing than set trees and restrictions. Also pretty sure there is no real perma-death in any sense of the word, because every time i check my blood type i end up with O+ so good news for all you negatives out there. Except O-... you're still gonna get sucked dry ;) edit: damn, just checked the charts and realised i'm the unlucky one as i only receive O type, but can give to all +... well fuck yall you aint getting a drop! The worms will have me before you taste anything.

q.S Sachiel replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
Nope. Hate over the shoulder. Disadvantages the one side it shows less of. Many games that incorporate 'cinematic hip cam' or over the shoulder view are quite annoying to me, as i've got to do the zoolander turn to see anything on my blind-side. May as well wear an eyepatch. I would foresee this being even more problematic when having your side against a wall. The camera already 'sucks' to surfaces because the distance offset is reduced by geometry/objects. Having it fixed to one side would just amplify or focus this issue (though you shouldn't really be 3pp inside buildings or in CQB to be honest). MWO does a 3p cam over the top, but punishes you by actually drawing a drone with blinking red light that hovers in that position, so that other players viewing you can see the drone, and ID you as 3p player. It also means that cresting a hill betrays your position earlier, and the red strobe increases visibility. I DO NOT WANT THIS! MMO's have rear view top; tomb raider coined it as do other adventure RPG/action games because it allows you to both appreciate your player and the scenery. Games like Fallout 3 had a offset 3pp view that I found cumbersome because it further confused the point at which your character was pointing their weapon. (3pp already does this, with your weapon being below xhair dependant on angle pitch, but added lateral offset = mind blown). 3pp regular servers are for beginners and people who don't want the hardcore experience. If you want HC you can go to those servers. (i know this is not your argument). That said, I feel your suggestion, without alternative, would just discourage 3pp in general so we may as well just remove it outright. perhaps put a request/suggestion that multiple camera angles be incorporated and you can set preferred angle in Settings, but I'd rather always have the option of 3pp rear top. I also disagree with 'advantage to those not mobile'. It certainly benefits the guy prone on the highest point in the area, as he can lie flat without fear of exposure, while having a birds eye view of his surroundings (though he must adjust to fire which can throw you off, disadvantaging you sometimes, yet he will still have 'the jump'). Players clearing a room or area can also use the 3pp to peak without fear of exposure as they rotate the camera on certain angles without clipping onto the door surface. It staggers your assault, and arguably it's better just to 1pp, gun up and check your corners professionally, but if it's a standoff and you know you can afford to creep then it's just as useful to the person moving about in that manner. edit: in addition to my above point about 'sucking' to walls/surfaces on which the camera lies, then it would stand that the camera may also 'jump' out further on the other side giving, allowing for better 'exploit' around the camera side's corner/doorway than it currently gives. So double edged sword on that point perhaps. -
Gday is an inappropriate exiting dialogue. The appropriate australian 'goodbye' is a finger to the air, a slug to the chin, and a catch ya later *insert expletive of choice here* Your chance of surviving at NWAF or military spawns decreases dramatically with every player on the field. Get in get out, or stay and kill and be killed. Aside from fierce competition of valuable resources, other players are quite aware of the risk, and the 'he'll be agressive' mentality compounds in a downward spiral as other have said above. Definitely not a nice place to befriend people, unless they're already on the end of someone elses barrel. But then DayZ players are notoriously underhanded to boot. Also, he's probably gone in, got spooked and decided it's safer just to off your brother than run away and risk being shot in the back or chased to the ends of the earth. It's what i'd do, except then i'd clear the building, kill you, close the doors and then slit open your stomache and bowels, so as to release your soul to the afterlife, allowing you to respawn once more. What i do from there is my own business. Catchya c***s!

TBH i find the game quite immersive for the most part. I can be quite the naturist and spend hours just roaming (usually with the intention of finding stragglers or shooting the lone-wolf fox that i see, or hunting choppers) or i can sit about a building, watching the door to a barracks until I'm either rewarded for my time or otherwise. My heart still does backflips when i'm out scrounging, or when someone's got the drop on me hard. Brain ticks into overdrive trying to find a crafty way to bleed them without taking damage myself. So i suppose it's the immersion and 'risk' to myself in general that I fear and enjoy. oh, and the occasional RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEECHHHHHHHH!! when i'm walking through the woods, sipping on some notacola... or when I'm forced to shoot a Z for fear of making myself vulnurable switching to the quiet option, then cursing myself the whole way to the edge of the city due to the hungry hoard of assholes that follow me screaching and bickering, baying for blood.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/197046-how-to-set-up-xbox-360-controller-with-pinnacle-game-profiler/ there was another thread which looked very good by some guy who had mapped a whole set of macros and buttons (list of code given) for a specific program which emulates the keyboard to the controller. Can't remember name, but it was something obsucre (seaching remap / button map gives actual map hits) walked back 21 pages manually in general and couldn't see it. It's an obscure name but i believe incorporates the name of the program used to do the code/emulation. Also several players here have stated that they use the microsoft controller or 3pp controller, so i dont' see any issue with console support. It will just come down to the experience you're limited to through commands, and the access that is allowed with regards to actions performed that the devs will hard-code in.

q.S Sachiel replied to AlexLM's topic in General Discussion
Yeah if it's not a hack (which i'm skeptical that it would be) it's probably something to do with physics or ragdoll more specifically :S Shit like this happened a bit in skyrim, where you'd be flung into the air then plummet to your doom. Not experienced by me yet. Apartment blocks are the devil however, but you showed the small appt block pic in 3rd view. I usualy have troubles in the square ghetto blocks. Put a ticket up in the bug tracker (you'll need to create a separate account if you haven't already) to make it official :) -
Let's talk about body armor and its possible negatives to gameplay.
q.S Sachiel replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Yeah basically this. If the reasoning against armour is that it's a 'survival game' and that this stops people from surviving, then that's just dismissing a player's ability to adapt. If you come up against something stronger than you, you run. If you come up against something faster than you, you fight. This is all ignoring the fact that given Katana's rendition of X and Y, it is all situational. Makarov has disadvantage over DMR in X scenario but not in Y. Akin to asking 'which weapon is better', it's analogous to asking 'which is better, fork+knife or fork+spoon? Specific tools are used for specific jobs and their weaknesses become aparent outside of this window. As long as the armour (if introduced) has a clear situational or generalised flaw/trade-off to alternative equipment then there should be no issue, unless the flaw is inconsequential, in which case the equip becomes OP and should be revised. There's currently a good smattering of weapons out there capable of piercing armor realistically, so it really comes down to 'sideways' mechanics such as hitbox detection (+/- directional/locational), speed/maneuverability flaws, scarcity and/or visibility of items. -
Yes yes yes, but when are we going to learn to use pointed sticks? SHADDAP! Most of these resources are already in game...

What about something like the WW2 relic of the sapper. Everyone loves looking like a armed-tothe-teeth housewife, right? Them curves... Something like this would be useful for 9mm, stab and maybe even up to .308 (probably pushed a few mauser out of the way). Usage could come with the following setbacks/balances to the player wearing them: increased sound while moving/accessing items increased fatigue/decreased stamina decreased speeds extra damage taken from calibre outside of effective protection. short-use ability: damaged/ruined condition causes more damage due to parts snapping off into you? particularly effective in the urban environment, it allowed the sapper to close distance to the nazi, usually with MP44(9mm parabellum) or STG(.308 equiv). The 9mm had little effect on them, and allowed them all the time and protection they needed to get up close, and spray them with their guns. Interestingly, i didn't know the armour could be detached from the body, and used as a prone shield/gun rest. http://sovietguns.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/soviet-body-armour.html -
