because the items that you can store inside are specific and restrictive, and despite their generally consuming 1 space, they are (in reality) very small and should be able to be stored to a larger degree inside this holder item? They are rare, cumbersome (ie: no immediate access from inventory) and have a restricted set of items they will accept. What is the incentive of acquiring these containers? Protect the bullets you're about to expend, and need to open two inventory windows to access? *scough* Have you ever seen even a basic first aid kit? whistle compression bandage x2 bandaids x20,50,100 scissors, tweezers, razor/scalpel blade gloves antiseptic wipes bandage x2 medical tape this comes in a package slightly larger than a man's fist. and if you're suggesting that a 300rnd ammo case can only hold 4x20 rounds of SKS ammo based purly on the profile graphic of the container, well then i guess this is why America spends so much money on war: carting around boxes of ammunition barely able to sustain 2x magazines for a soldier.

batteries batteries. Where art thou batteries?
q.S Sachiel replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
basically this. Camp beaches. kill freshies. Free batteries. -
yeah that's what he's saying, that it used to have a 'phantom doppler' in your inventory, which could sustain damage and ruin the real one (in your hands).
-
All for it. 'Clatter clatter' and you know it, so does anyone within short earshot ;). But as to actually dropping it: always organise your inventory for accessability and for looting. When looting i'm always sure to have a few +4 +6 empty spaces in my inventory should i need it, where you can.

The new 3pp camera and FOV Slider
q.S Sachiel replied to Julianwop (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
mate don't even bother. This topic has been flogged harder and more often than an adolescent only just having made puberty. The thread will fill up with white fluid because people see the devs are doing something, and 1pp servers will remain dead. -
could have washed up there. I'd say it's more questionable why you're spawning in the middle of nowhere...

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
q.S Sachiel replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
That's some fine statistical analysis done there! A+ Blinkered vision running simulator has a market yet! You also succeeded in twisting the survey question to meet your needs. Fine woork indeed. That's probably because the 300 odd people who vote are an inadequate sample size, and probably unrepresentative of the community as a whole.... But that's why single question surveys are usually relegated to ad-ware bait, or trash entertainment dressed up as an attempt at logic. Your post is well read, but i can't help but feel you're pissing in my pocket to tell met it's raining. Just to be clear, it seems that the '3pp guys' don't actually have any issue with the game currently with respect to camera angle... What i'm proposing is that 1pp players get up in their superior numbers and go play their damned game in the 1pp servers where there is no option to play otherwise See: now both needs/wants have been satisfied. Too bloody easy. Unless of course the total number of 1pp guys is vastly understated. Now that may mean a problem for the select but vocal few. May need to periodically scream and shout to get attention, and maybe throw in a poll or two to try drum up support. -
I wouldn't count on this being true 'offline' either, what with the frequent server checks to see what inventory you have... although i suppose you could just have it save to harddrive and then update to steam cloud later... but who does that now-days anyway, seeing as steam likes to be as active as possible at all times.

press V for flashknife! *SWISH* I think a shove would be useful and fun at least, would provide good jostling and friends and I wouldn't need to shoot around eachothers head / at eachothers feet for boredom reduction therapy.

You'll need to put forward a logical point that isn't based on opinion or self-contradictory in nature, first, otherwise it's really an effort in futility. I said i'd take the crimea, not go to stalingrad (not much fun in stalingrad, no). You're welcome. Also, at the risk of treading on narcissitic sensitivities, I'm not replying to you as much as trying to act as a balance to the hoard of unwashed masses with their gaping moaning mouths who are attempting to bring about a change in the game which I know and love. But it has been fun :) This is probably the last drop for the next few months on this topic (as i'm sure it will continue through the eons) unless I see something particularly tasty to reply to.

This bit right here tho, this is what i expected from you bae. You make playing devils advocate all worth it. Everything other than this last line is pretty hard to follow what with the confusing contradictions and sarcastic hypocrasy. (;

not sure if troll or bad passs at oracle of delphi, either way you said a whole lot of nothing. Sometimes lack of reply means more, but i think you missed the bus.

Why not just play your music through the sound device straight into broadcast? I believe death by crowbar was hinting at this... may need a particular sound card but I believe most motherboards now-days should be able to do this???

Thank you, when I annexe the Crimea I will be sure to share with you a piece of the pie. Many russians will be whipped, and there will be singing and dancing girls and everyone will have a really good time.

Except that this is a computer game not representative of reality, allowing consumers to live out a fictional and fantastical experience in a world of someone else's creation... Eagle Dynamics created one of the best ever flight simulators, realistic and authentic in every way. It came with an arcade 'game' mode where simulator elements are softened to allow for arcade flight or new users. You could play this online. The catch was, that everyone was on a level playing field. IMO your argument falls flat comparing it to a real-world scenario, presumably where someone is doing something wrong, with the intended element of guilt to be added. And it's not that everyone is doing it, it's that everyone has the option. I haven't seen anywhere near this kind of facemelting tear development on the BI forums for games such as ARMA2/3 or back in DayZ mod. It seems like every tom dick and harry who comes to DayZ has their own dictatorial regime to impress upon everyone else, and all the 'purists' seem to only be voicing their opinions now (albeit now that they've actually paid for the mod/game) whether they played the original or not - which had very similar camera mechanics. But we'll see where the development goes in the end, because as you say, WIP and this horse is well flogged.

q.S Sachiel replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
DayZ Community (pre SA): "hey this is a good game, its an unrestrictive sandbox!" DayZ Community (post SA): "why does everyone treat this like a First Person Shooter?" DayZ Community (post SA): "we should force a FPS perspective". i am much confused :S people still buy 30c cones now that they're 50c+ but that doesn't mean that people wouldn't like to have 30c cones... -
How can I find servers that aren't fully looted?
q.S Sachiel replied to pikmonster's topic in General Discussion
Schroedingers cat.. If there were a way to tell, they would not be fresh and full of loot. Your cat would probably also be dead of some kind of terrible toxin deep in a metal box, with a scientist somehwere yabbering about collapsing the wave function. Your only real hope would be a private hive or something... anything the general public and hoppers have access, so do you. -
.56 patch coming anytime soon? Is this game progressing at an increasingly slower rate?
q.S Sachiel replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
Fair enough, I didn't look into it too much because i knew it was a fan/mod/upgrade of HL1 and wasn't aware that it was finished. Having a disclaimer like that makes me feel unwary of any bugs or support issues that may pop up and drove me away, but if it works great. I'll stick to my 800x600 openGL thanks :P As for DayZ i feel like a virgin again coming back (for the very first time) in a few months... zombies pizow appear out of nowhere, f''' me up in all kinds of ways, and take numerous blows to the upper region with the fire-axe to take down now. They also seem to insta-hit you no matter where you're standing, heard rumor no more circle dancing but this kind of melee sounds like a RNG rock-em-sock-em ordeal... does not want -
I don't understand, are you suggesting that we remove 1pp servers by your statement 'why do we even need 1pp servers'? If you don't give a person a choice then how is there going to be anything less than 3pp? And i fail to see how peeking in 3pp impacts 1pp only servers? if you play on a 1/3pp then i'm even more confused as to why there would be any 'degradation' of gameplay. There is a littany of posts in the search engine on 1pp/3pp debates so i'll stop here, but i can assure you that removing 1pp only will not encourage people to play that style. I understand where this whole peeking around walls thing is, but if i'm on a 3pp server, I really don't want this 'devs working on wall peeks' thing turning into some spastic camera, the kind you get from Tomb Raider or Dark souls: every time you put your ass against a wall or walk throug a door, your angle is drastically altered because the camera impacts the surface... I see no break and no reason to fix, so just provide better incentive to split the player base across the two and leave alone imo.

So to sum up we've gone from 'why are 1pp servers empty' to the tired, but aparrently still entertaining trope of 'THIS IS EXPLOITS!'. For god's sake, you can fall back on whatever flawed emotive logic you enjoy wrapping yourself in, it is hard friggin coded into the game. 3pp is not an exploit it is a design decision. As has it been for just about EVERY BI game on the market, and was also a popular POV in the standalone. Your argument falls flat on it's ass, Minion and others, when you say it was not intended to be in the game, glossing over the fact that there are servers that SEGREGATE 1pp AND 3pp allowing A CHOICE OF GAMEPLAY. I too lament that the 1pp servers are less popular than the 1pp3pp COMBINED servers, but please, this is not skyboxing, this is not wall clipping, this is not crabwalking or 'lorking teh solf'... it was a choice included with a purpose, one that you dislike and use denial and ignorant argument to argue against. It may change in the future but this is now. Let me remind you that while screaming and clawing at the ceiling about 'exploits' and 'not intended in the product' that several games have incorporated unintended game effects such as skiing and bhoping, which have then become part of the mainstream gaming reportoir for certain genres. MEANWHILE IN ONTOPIC LAND: for too-easy: I too disliked the 1pp movement, especially when running. I believe there is a check-box that lets you turn this off if you prefer to play in 1pp and want to disable it, though i haven't done this myself and have learned to love the shake. Just don't tell anyone you've done it for fear of gaining a clearer picture that lets you see people easier when moving about, and being branded scum of the earth. /quip.

A possible best protective character loadout?
q.S Sachiel replied to Luftpancake's topic in General Discussion
.... now that's a schwanzenschutz! -
IMHO snapping of twigs and alarmed fluttering of birds when there's nothing around is the worst part. Slamming of doors is just plain annoying but at least i can rationalise that as lazy tent-reared russians leaving them open in their haste at being eaten alive... As above, many issues are due to desync, there was anecdotal evidence before (maybe even hard sourced info) that some of the noises were due to being recycled as place-holders for animals, so rabbits etc in your area would emit those sounds, but now i think they have their own identities... Just gotta put up with it i suppose, and compensate by putting ten rounds in everything that moves within earshot.

q.S Sachiel replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
unfortunately game development is not a linear path :( On the bright side, at least the steam page for DayZ doesn't come with a 'BlackMesa Source esque' caveat to the tune of 'this game may or may not experience further development from it's current state... SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! consumer confidence is not lost in DayZ just yet... -
long story short: exit alpha and release ;)
