  1. I completely understand the imersion aspect, and the limited to nil hud. But this is still a game, and because of that is still limited to the amount of realism it can actually display. Depending on graphics settings or just the overall ability of the game, some items are more difficult to spot then they would really be in real life. Because of this limitation, I suggest a very slight highlight, or possibly, better shadowing to help better identify actual objects on the ground and furniture. I completely understand the reasons to not want to highlight loot, but it sometimes removes me "more" from the imersion when i am trying to figure out if something is grabbable and something is just part texture or bump mapping.

    Question about Heli Crash sites

Found 4 of the new Hueys today in a 3 1/2 hour run (1 server restart in between). Glad they are smoking again, but the smoke pillar doesnt go as high as previous and dissipates in a larger cone. You have to be a lot closer to see it from far away then you did with the original smoking blackhawks. Loot was Meh at all of them. Found parts for M4's, no M4's. Some magazines and 1 ammo case. Otherwise, was disappointed in the lack of items. I may have been second or third to visit 2 of them (maybe). But I know for a fact I was the first to 2 of them after the server restart and the loot was just as poor. No M4's. No nades. No Combat Knifes.
  3. And thusly, why I said I was for them making players and zombies invisible without true LOS. Which has been done in games before. Its not an impossible thing to implement. You can make it so people can look around corners in 3rd person but see no one, just to come around a corner and have someone in their face. This would solve the biggest complaint people have with 3rd person, while simultaneously allowing you to have better vision of your surroundings like you do in real life.
  4. Theres nothing realistic about 1st person mode. Its called peripheral vision, which is realistic. Its something that can only be achieved utilizing a 3rd person view when using a 2D screen. FOV can only scale it so far. With that said, Im all for zombies and people being invisible when you dont have true LOS on them so that 3rd person cant be exploited around corners and walls. I dont remember what game did this, but it has been done before. Otherwise, I greatly appreciate 3rd person view as it allows us to utilize a realistic feature we already possess, peripheral vision. Detrimental to our survival in real life. You would think people playing a survival game would appreciate that.

    1st person dying breed

Thank you for saying this. I understand the complaints about 3PP when it comes to looking around walls. But after that, 3pp is far superiour in a more realistic way. Yes, I just said that. No its not realistic because you have a view above your head. But it is more realistic because it opens up something that FPS cant seem to do, even with huge FOV, and that is Peripheral vision. Something that is almost a must in a survival game. A huge open world, and you have nothing but tunnel vision with 1pp. Its beyond annoying. 3PP allows you to have a view to your sides that you always have in real life even if your are unaware of it. Ive seen someone post in here a game that made it so you couldnt see people without direct LOS even though you could see the areas they were at with 3PP. Thats all this games needs to do. If they figure out how to do that, everyone should be happy.
  6. I know there is another thread, but I would like more people to see this question since the other thread has been around for a bit. I understand they didnt stream any presentations from DayZ, but 67,000 people went to PAX. Did no one that frequents these forums go? I find it hard to believe that we dont have any insight into what the new build showed off or what the devs spoke about. Why the major secrecy?

Got it. So no improvements or content. That sounds even worse. You are a bad Alpha defender.

    September Rant Topic.

Hmm, by their own definition, they have skipped Alpha and are already into Beta without actually doing anything in Alpha. Through its long lived Alpha, the development seems to be improving nothing at all. However, they do continue to add content. New guns, clothes, craftables. Bug fixes and featyre development? Hmm, nope. Lots of new shiny towns though, tons of content. No actual feature development.

    >80 slot servers

You have to remember, while there are hackers, the majority of people that complain about them, never actually encountered a hacker. They got killed by someone they assume was hacking to justify other shit going down. Desync, lag issues, poor aiming. Just being bad and assuming they arent. But they wont tell you that. And youll never get them to admit to the possibility. If DayZ had as many hackers as this forums believes there are, 80% of the playing population would be hacking as we speak.

    People's thoughts on hip firing?

Yea, im still confused. ADS is more accurate and easier to control when firing farther away. The closer you get, the harder it is because you cant adjust quickly on a close moving target. But thats kinda par for the course. Hip fire is better in CQC because a quick moving target is close and you need a wider range of movement as they move around.

    People's thoughts on hip firing?

If you are close to someone, and you have an auto, hip fire should be the preferred method. If you are further away, then ADS. Wait, Im confused. Whats the questions again?

    Four Flavors of DayZ

yah, no. If you share the same hive, get over yourself. The server can make any rules it wants, doesnt mean crap if its on the main hive. RP servers, great. Im RPing as a guy who doesnt trust you and will shoot you anyway. RP does not equal "loot at your free will without concern." Once everyone gets their own servers that they can whitelist, do whatever you want. But until then, Im not buying the "Dont KOS us, we are friendly and jsut want to explore" Explore on an empty server if you are concerned about KOS. Meet people on a dating site like match.com if you are in dire need of companionship. This is an apocalyptic game, not Hello Kitty Island Adventure. If you are not prepared to be shot at, this is not the game for you. Honestly, who is playing this game not wanting conflict with other humans? Everyone realizes that there is zero difficulty in this game without the threat of KOS, correct? I mean zero difficulty. Nothing in this game is difficult, or even worth anyones time without the threat of KOS. And I know for a fact that the majority of you "I hate KOS, I want to be friendly" people are just trying to find a few guys so YOU can turn around and start looking for conflict. Youre not carrying around the Mosin because you want to hang it above the mantel. You are carrying it because you know you will have to used it against other humans at some point.

    Four Flavors of DayZ

Huh?!. What did I just read? That is not comparable in the slightest. By no means. Playing your own way in a sandbox game is one thing. Even getting upset that you encounter someone who playing differently then you is fine, all though stupid. But, everyone playing within the rules (IE, no hacking) is playing correctly regardless of style. Hacking is not a one up on each step like you seem to be saying here. Very bad comparison. No, just.... no.

    When to kill?

Yea, but we dont need a medic. Me and him are just fine. We have all we need to survive both substance and medically. So thats not nessacary, therefor, not worth the risk. Ive given items to a new guy, sure, but Im not going to help him find something, nope. Great on you man. But its already a tedious task searching for loot for me and my friend. Im not spending hours looking for you too. Dont need more then 2 to properly search anywhere. In fact, the more you have, the more of a footprint you leave behind you as well as the more people who can be noticed from a far. So, I am happy for you that this is the way you like to play. But in my view, its more risk with little reward. Of course, this viewpoint can all change once/if the game ever improves. But for now, this is by far the safest way to play. Everyone (who you dont know) is a threat. Which, numbers wise, is a fact. For every great guy like you running around helping the helpless, there are 10 others on that server looking to kill me. Im not taking the chance you are one of them.

    The camo building is stupid

ProTip: If someone is camping it. Leave. Then you dont have to worry about engaging them when they are fortified. Luckily, Cherarus is pretty big, so there are other places you can head too.

    When to kill?

But can we agree that if you dont have a proper defensive position on someone, you are putting your life on the line for the perceived ideology of achieving something more. Right now, I would say you have a 70% chance of being killed in an encounter that you are trying to defuse without violence. And I think I might be underselling it. We have all had a few stories, but lets be honest. If we look at the stats of kills on a server (which of course we cant) you would see that people are being killed far more then they find peace. So what exactly am I trying to achieve with that 30% chance of survival? Like I said, sing campfire songs? If thats the reward for letting you live, Ill be just happier shooting you. You state about having ANY chance at something else. What else are you looking for? Maybe thats what you should enlighten me on. What exactly do these peaceful encounters net you? I have no use for trade. I dont need another friend. And until some sort of party/faction war starts up, more people are just slowing us down with zero extra benifit to our gameplay. Not to mention, I still have to consider you a threat playing a long con. Now, Ive already mentioned, that this is for the CURRENT state of the game. If the game adds in variables that truly do test your survival skills outside of human interaction, then great. That will defiantly be something Ill get into. But chances are extremely high it wont ever amount to that. Any ai and environmental variables will be able to be figured out because they are all patterns. And eventually, it will be repetitive and tedious. The only thing that will stay dynamic is player interaction.

    When to kill?

Once again, great. My responses have zero to do with this being a shooter game. We arent hunting people. We arent looking for others to kill. My response is 100% survival based. IF WE ENCOUNTER SOMEONE, then it becomes a numbers game. If that person has no weapon, he is of no threat, and other then his presence being utilized as a decoy, we dont harm these people. If you have a weapon, you are a threat. I dont care what type of game you think it will be, Im talking about the game right now. Im playing the game as the game is right now, Im not playing it as it will be next year. You with a weapon are a threat to my existence at any point. You are of no help to me. You provide me nothing but concern for my own avatars life. You are the survival aspect of this game right now. There is nothing else in this game, AT ITS CURRENT BUILD, that hinders my survival. Why do I care for your safety? I dont. I care for mine, and my friends. Thats how Im playing the game. And because the game mechanics are so slow and clunky, I cant take the chance that you wont change your mind. Because if you decide to shoot first wiht a gun out, you have the distinct advantage over me. Now, while were not actively looking to engage with others and just get in a shooting spaz, we understand that the best parts of this game are the adrenaline rushes you get when you do encounter someone who is questionable. So we enjoy these parts of the survival, because its the only part of the game that has any challenge. But you living, so we can talk about nothing but "hey, you are a player who plays dayz, SO AM I". F that. I dont want to socialize with you. I dont want to trade with you. I dont want to hang out in virtual land giving each other handy J's (American dad reference). If the only part of this game that brings any sort of satisfaction is surviving encounters, why exactly am I looking to do away with that? And why are any of you? Its like you want everyone to be super friendly, and yet you all know the main pull to this game is the fact that people arent. If everyone was friendly, this would be the stupidest game ever made. IT would be second life without the ability to craft penises on everything. If you really think this game is going to turn into some utopia where we all till are gardens together and sit around a camp fire telling stories, Ive got bad news for you. Just like the mod, the games biggest detriment to survival is man, and nothing else.

    When to kill?

You are correct on teh friendly help. Thus why I said, I only play with a friend. But I know him. I dont know you or anyone else I meet out there. So to me, you are all a non-essential and only a threat. You serve me no purpose other then the threat you pose. I am not trying to further your gameplay, Im trying to further mine (and my friends). If you play by yourself, you have an uphill battle. Yes, trying to find others to help you is good, but its your risk you take. I dont take that risk (and because I have a friend, dont need too)

    When to kill?

Im thinking you want to play another game. Pro Bass fishing is a great game. First of all, you are obviously talking about my post. You assume alot of how I play. Nope, I dont run for a gun and straight into kill. In fact, me and my friend play the same routes every time. We spawn in and its head to Cherno. Then Clockwise around the entirety of Chernarus. We are looking for everything we can get our hands on. And when we encounter someone else, we deem them as a threat. In the entirety of this game, there is no possible way to tell someones intentions until its too late. We've had plenty of funny encounters along our way. Not all end in bloodshed, but when it comes to this game, the only reason I will not survive (besides glitches like Jail House level 2, or ladders) is because of you. Zombies are not a threat. Hunger and thirst is not a threat. Nothing is a threat to my survival in this game, except you (you being any human players before you get all defensive). Dont give me this high and mighty morality about your ingame avatar and how you deserve some sort of civilized justice. This is a VIDEO GAME. It is not filled with any real life consequences. If you are mad because someone KOS'd you, reevaluate your reasons for playing the game. If you really just want to walk around in perfect safety looting and socializing with others, go play Second Life. But you cant, because you are addicted the rush this game provides. And that rush is only there because people like me dont trust you, and have no reason too. You are not an objective to me. You are a hindrance. Eventually you will kill me (you can tell me you wont, but in game, I have no idea who Im speaking with ever even if you tell me who you are and your intentions.) So why am I risking anytime worrying about your play experience.... Pro Tip: Im not. Fun encounter story to lighten up the thread Running north from the SW Military base, we were heading through the open fields looking for Helo crashes. Upon us comes a man who was naked (underwear/white undershit) and holding a book. He was being chased by zombies. We killed the Z's and didnt fire on him. But we did become extremely aware of our surroundings at the moment. I kept an eye on him while he tried to tell some funny joke (which was kinda funny) and my friend constantly scanned the horizon in all directions. The guy didnt want anything, he was just explaining that he was on some challenge to run a book from one coast to the other and that being naked made it easier for him to survive because people deemed him not a thread. He was right. Because he had no weapon and no means of concealing one, he lived. We didnt shoot him, we let him run on his way and we continued on ours. Howwever, had he had a weapon, or had my friend spotted someone else scoping in on us (our first impression was it was a decoy trap) then that guy would have been creamed. Were not going to risk ourselves in the off chance that its a friendly (read: pointless) encounter. But, because the guy was of no threat, he was able to continue on his way. That being said, we hightailed it out of that area for the off chance that it was a trap and his friends just werent able to get good position yet. Regardless. This is the only logical course of play to continue your survival WHEN ENCOUNTERING others. Sure, I could go in the woods and set up camp, and just fish constantly until the game no longer is supported. But thats a pretty stupid game now, isnt it. We enjoy the encounters because of the rush, but that doesnt mean we care about you.

    When to kill?

If they have a weapon, you did the right thing. Dont listen to what anyone else tells you. Its you or them. The possibility of diplomatic resolutions does not justify the risk vs reward scenario. Him dead = you not and some free loot. Him alive = you possibly dead at some point or you make a friend who can offer little to you besides maybe a few items he can part with. Maybe a new partner to explore with, but the chances of that exchange are not high enough for me to risk my life. Letting him walk is fine as long as you know your safe, but if there is doubt, dont chance it.

There Are no Vegetables in DayZ.

The origin of the term vegetable is no longer viable. Its very simple actually. And this is the correct way to decipher between fruits and vegetables. Fruit - The part of the plant that contains the seeds. Vegetable - The rest of the plant to include Leaves, Stalks, Branches and Roots. So stuff like Broccolli, Celery, Cabbage, Potatoes, Beets, and so on.

DayZ is a game about theft.

If you dont get shot by that friend, its blind luck, because they should have killed you. Their ineptitude at aiming should not be a reflection of positive game play. You say "if they're unarmed OR claim to be friendly." I assume you meant 'and' instead of 'or'. Because once again, if they have a gun out, and you put yours away, they have a distinct advantage on you that you can not counter in anyway. The mechanics of this game are so poor right now (and the best arma games still arent that great) that just the act of pulling out your weapon is way to constrictive. If you have a running start, you might be able to pull it out as you reach cover, but only after youre riddled with bullets. If you start to pull it out before you run, you will most likely be stuck in position not able to move while it takes 2 seconds for the gun to come out. Reflexes to high tense situations are pointless. If they have a weapon pointed at you and you choose to put your gun away, you are now at their whim. The second you pull that gun out, they open fire and destroy you. You might get lucky, theyre friendly, you had a great ride. You could even find your soul mate so many of you seem to be searching for in a video game, all though I think most of you will find disappointment here. But a more likely scenario, they raid you, and let you live if youre lucky, and run off. But most likely, they kill you. The point is in Risk vs Reward. I dont want to lose my stuff or my life for that matter. I am playing to survive (something you all claim you want to do). Im calculating the actual chance for death. You, with a gun, are a liability. At any time, you are the person you currently hate, to me. Im not risking my life to uphold some sense of video game ethics. Maybe, if the game ever cleans up. And Zombies becomes an actual threat thats not caused by a bug. And loot becomes more scarce, where the only means to aquire it would be through some sort of faction/community events. Until then, you are the only risk to my survival. You with a weapon, is me dead at any moment I take my guard down. You dead, are of no concern to me.

DayZ is a game about theft.

Judging from a lot of post here, I dont even know why half you guys even play this game. You obviously dont like the current play styles. You dont care for the development staff and how they do things. And you take the time to come to a forum to complain about how much the game makes you mad. and the best part is, I bet most of you that have these complaints have accumulated HUNDREDS of hours of play time. Its pretty funny.
