I still wonder if they're going to add ghillie suits like they had in the mod; things will be ridiculous then. Of course, if they also add night and thermal vision, that will help offset it, and also make it crazier at the same time. :P

I don't think the OP is saying that a KoSer will ALWAYS have their gun out and be dressed in full camo, or that every person that does IS a KoSer, just that these things are signs of a POSSIBLE KoSer. But you have to admit, it does seem to be a bit of a trend, bordering on stereotype.

I'd rather have a donkey; then you can put on a show for other survivors.

    DAYZ ....ohhhh you

I once sprayed a Mosin (forget what color), and it made it single-round only (meaning I could only chamber one round at a time instead of 5). On the flip side, I once fell off of a rooftop and was saved by landing on top of 3 zombies that were waiting for me below. Who knew they could be useful in breaking your fall?
  6. Well, it seems to me that the guy that shot at you first DID make a bad decision, and his buddy tried to get him to stop; I think the buddy was the one that ran out of the hangar (the one you dropped first), and I think he was trying to defuse the situation. It seemed like, when he came out of the hangar and was running around, he had ample opportunity to try and shoot you, but he just kept running around saying "chill" and whatnot, which leads me to believe that he didn't want a fight. Unfortunately, his friend had an itchy trigger finger and got the ball rolling down a rather steep hill. I'm guessing the buddy chewed his friend a new asshole after that encounter, telling him not to just shoot anyone he sees, for just that reason. That being said, you really had no idea what their true intentions were, as they could have been trying to lull you into a false sense of security so they could take you out, so you may have been justified in taking them out. Of course, they might have thought the same of you, and truly were "innocent". The point is, in DayZ, as I've learned the hard way myself, you really can't trust anyone when first meeting them. In my encounter, I was in the top of one of the air control towers, looting around, when suddenly I saw a guy come up the outside ladder; as I ran back down the stairs inside, I heard him yelling "Friendly!" over the mic. Against my instincts and better judgement, I stopped and went back up to talk to him. He asked if I had any food, and I said yes; I asked him if he had a can opener, and he said yes. I started to reply with "good, because you're going to need it". But before I could finish the statement, I watched him pull out his pistol and shoot me dead in the face. All I can hope is that he ruined everything I had so that it was all useless, though, since he shot me in the face, I doubt that happened.
  7. Yup, basically, just use that map that TheCreeper linked and you should be able to find your way around. Remember to check the city signs (white with Cyrillic writing) and direction signs (blue with Cyrillic writing and arrows) in-game against the map, to find out what town you're in or near, and how to get to others. That map will have what's written on the signs, as well as the English translations.

    Uh nope!

Yeah, I'd say you were lucky, because I was KoS'd on a hardcore server the other day while looking around in a police station; to be fair, it was probably mostly my fault, because A.) I could tell someone had been there recently when I approached, and B.) I wasn't being very cautious, and he snuck up behind me and shot me in the back of the head (I think with a Mosin).

DayZ needs less killing-on-sight and more singing.

    Scenes of Major Accidents

I would imagine that, at the outset of a zombie apocalypse, there would be many people trying to flee a given area at once, which would likely result in a number of traffic accidents, of which the vehicles (and possibly the people) that were involved would likely still be at the scene; I think it would be neat to run across stuff like this every once in a while, like the bus with a pile of corpses next to it. Here's an example of something that would be neat to find (and even neater to see happen in-game):

    Dexter | Heinz Beans! | S06E03

Sorry to necro (like it matters with a zombie game :P), but I was JUST about to post this, and then found it after a quick search. You TOTALLY beat me to it (by a couple of years); not surprised, though, considering when the episode aired. I'm playing ketchup (see what I did there?) on Netflix right now for Dexter. On Season 6 I believe. Anyway, cool beans!

Allow us to paint the protector cases.

I'm actually in favor of MANY more items being paintable (I mean, IRL you can paint almost anything with spraypaint), and this is definitely one of them, though I never actually thought of it in that regard; it makes perfect sense, though. I'll give you my only Pristine can of beans, and I'll even open it for you with my Badly Damaged can opener! :beans:

    Reconsidering Inventory Item Damage

Well, it's also rather unrealistic for zombies to run through walls and floors to attack you, and be able to lunge at you and hit you from 30 feet away. Personally, I chalk it up to the fact that it's still in Alpha status, and that they're still working on fine-tuning everything (or they will). All they're really concerned with at the moment is finishing and activating various modules within the game; once they establish them and get them working, they will then, at some point, go through and tweak and fine-tune everything. This isn't to say that none of the OP's points are valid, as they pretty much all are; just that this shouldn't be expected to be the end product, as many things, including this, will be reworked and modified so as to make the game a fun experience for as many people as possible. Just try to keep in ind that the game we're playing now is NOT the game that will be available for purchase on store shelves and other retail markets. That being said, the OP makes a very solid point, and I like the suggestions.

    Eat burned meat/food

Exactly; and I like mine somewhere in the mid-range of those two. :)

I love the game... but I hate flinching

He actually has the right idea; I decided to do this with a fresh spawn one time, and, after finding a pipe wrench, some worker gloves and a flat cap, I ripped up my t-shirt and ran around Electro looking for people to ask them if they had any plumbing that needed fixing. Sometimes just screwing around can break the tension, and then you're good to go. :)

    Eat burned meat/food

I actually like my steak a bit burnt; charred even. I would likely get sick more from having it UNDER-cooked than OVER-cooked. There's just something about a crispy piece of meat with a fairly strong charcoal taste....mmmmmmm.

    Pocket T-Shirt?

Imagine how cool it would be if a copy of the New Testament that you found somewhere (which is all you'd have room for) saved your life by stopping a bullet that would have hit your heart otherwise. Just sayin'.

That's quite the distance. Could make for some fun times, especially as sniper overlooking towns.

You could also just sit in a police station and when someone enters, ask them what their emergency is. Or you could pretend to work on one of the broken-down police cars.

Bringing Back the Green Mountain Mystery

Hey, I just figured this out! Here's what you need to know: ***POST CONTENT REDACTED***

Fire axe suckage and game crashing.

The fire axe can still be useful; you just have to know how/where to strike the zombies (I've learned to aim above their heads to get a headshot), as well as be able to strafe around them to avoid being hit. It's fairly rare now that you get a 1-hit kill with it anymore, but it can still happen; the axe will actually knock them down sometimes, allowing you to go to town on them while they get back up. Of course, having gone through 2 tactical shirts now (not to mention the stuff in the pockets) which keep getting ruined after a few hits, and not knowing anywhere besides the NWAF tent city to find more, I may try using the machete when I find one, at least for the time being. I would just shoot them (and probably will on a very low-pop server), but I hate to waste the ammo and, even more importantly, give away my position to anyone who may be nearby. Part of the problem might also have been the fact that I couldn't find a motorbike helmet for the life of me, and only have one now thanks to a fresh spawn I happened across, whom I helped to find his friend near the shipwreck.

    [VIDEO] Karma strikes!

Pretty entertaining. :D And I like how you admitted to not knowing why you even shot the first guy (I was wondering the same, seeing as how he ran right past you like he didn't even notice you), and realized that the end result was basically karma striking. That's why I don't shoot unless either A.) fired upon first, or B.) it looks as though they are about to do so.

    Learning Avatar

All excellent points; I have to agree that this would be interesting and fun, especially since there are already actual books to be found throughout the world that you can read. Of course, this could lead into over-immersion, as it's entirely possible (and rather likely) that you could encounter a situation where not having these skills already could make it much, MUCH harder to progress, and therefore take away some of the fun. I do like the idea, though. Nothing about your forum avatar makes me believe you would at all be interested in anything to do with beards. :P But that is a cool idea.
