    Using Online Map Cheating?

I think this was basically the issue; I tried using the in-game map early on and ran into that issue, and since haven't really bothered to try it again, as I found the DAYZDB map and just decided to use that for a while. Now that I know it works, I might try holding on to some maps I find.

    Noob on a Rescue Mission

You chose to die? :P I think you meant you chose the "former", which would be to adapt; the "latter" would be to die. :) At least, I hope that's what you chose, unless you just couldn't resist pressing F11. :D
  3. Yes. Of course. How is it not? Jackass. This is actually the exact point I was making in the statement that Ignorant IgnobleBasterd decided to weigh in on; they essentially put themselves in that position by not keeping an eye on their surroundings. Besides the fact that someone may have ghosted them, it's also possible the people they had trapped just had other friends that were elsewhere on the map and moved in behind them; even if that wasn't the case in that scenario, it's certainly plausible in that situation. So every time that happens, it doesn't mean someone ghosted necessarily, as it could instead just be that someone else logged in (or was already logged in) and moved in to help their friends. Beyond that, I personally think the login timer is the best solution at the moment for public players; I personally don't mind waiting for 5-10 minutes (10 at the max, as that is pushing it a bit) to login, as I can go get a drink and a snack, or smoke a bowl, or get my daily fapping out of the way during that time; and with such a long wait time, that means it would take someone at least 10 minutes to switch servers, move position, and switch back, which would discourage many from doing so, and those that it doesn't will have less of an advantage because anything could happen in that time. Also, I myself wouldn't want to risk having someone logout to ghost, especially if already outnumbered, because that just means I'm outnumbered THAT MUCH MORE now while waiting; and in that situation, if I were the ones outside, I would take the opportunity to move in and overwhelm them while their friend(s) is gone, so that when they return, all they'll find is their friend's corpse. Above all, just remember that the game is still in Alpha, and will likely go through many more changes, including in this area, before it's all done, so anything that happens now will likely only be temporary, at least in its current iteration.
  4. Perhaps they could make it so that you could use certain items or tools to create slots in doors for that purpose; maybe if they ever add some sort of drill or something.

    New Dayz 3D map

LOL I wouldn't trust ANYTHING Norton tells me, personally. I've got a rather good antivirus setup and no bells or red flags are going off (knock on wood). I think it's ok.
  6. I found it by accident while trying to find the edge of the map. :D Got me a sweet tac vest, too.
  7. Pretty much this; I know it isn't what you want to hear, but at the moment, it's to most viable option you have. They actually increased the spawn time fro joining a new server for just this reason. In order to ghost out of a spot, they need to join a different serer, move to a new spot, and then rejoin the first server. With the logout/login timers they have now, this process would take someone at least a few minutes to do, so if you're smart and pay attention, you can know when someone is potentially ghosting. One way to avoid this is to get both players talking, either on VOX or in Direct chat; when you don't get a response from one of them for 30 seconds to a minute, it's possible they logged out to try and ghost you, at which point the remaining player is totally outnumbered, so you should be able to move in and take him hostage and wait for the other one to return, only to find his friend either dead or possibly soon-to-be. It's risky, yes, but life is full of risks. Depending on how many people you have with you, you could also potentially fan out and watch in all directions, in case they try to sneak up on you. Not to be a dick, but IMO, you guys essentially put yourselves in this position by not paying attention and taking proper precautions. Alternatively, sometimes it's just best to move on and let people be.

    A mountain not just hills?

I think this would be cool to see. I ventured out there, and kept going until the treeline disappeared on the horizon. I was scared I might not be able to get back. Thankfully I did. Then ended up falling down some rocks and dying trying to take the "quick way" down. I think Steak might have issue with that.

    Basejumping

Such a naysayer; I've been in plenty of areas with buildings and cliffs tall enough to deploy a 'chute from, especially where there are apartment buildings on hills; you wouldn't get much gliding time in many areas, granted, but if your sole concern is to get to the ground quickly, that wouldn't be much of an issue, and might even be a good thing. I've seen people base jump IRL off of buildings and other objects that are actually shorter than some of the buildings in the game, so I think it could definitely be done, as long as the 'chute deploys quickly enough to save you from cratering.

    Using Online Map Cheating?

I pretty much only use the DAYZDB map as I would the in-game maps; that is, essentially as just a map, to get my bearings. I would use the in-game maps instead, as I try not to metagame if I can help it, but it's such a hassle to use the in-game maps at the moment, as you essentially have to place EACH ONE in your hotbar at the bottom in order to effectively use it (which there aren't enough hotbar slots for, BTW), and there is currently no way to combine any different sections of map you find, as there is no single map for the entire region; it's split into several different smaller sections for the maps. I'm hoping they make the in-game maps easier to use in the future, and add some way to combine them into a larger single map; until then, I'll probably keep using the DAYZDB map. However, I DID just discover a cool 3D map of Chernarus that another member is currently developing; it's only in Alpha at the moment (appropriately enough :P), but it's already looking pretty awesome. Here is the thread link: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/220977-new-dayz-3d-map/ And here is the actual map link: http://dayz3dmap.ru/ it requires a browser plugin to be installed first, but it's safe, and the map is actually really cool to use.

    Noob on a Rescue Mission

See? Not everyone in this game is a sociopathic douchenozzle. :) Now take off your pants, get on your knees, and put your hands behind your head while I put this burlap sack over it, and then shoot you in the leg and leave you for the zeds to nom on. :bandit:

Anyone willing to come find me and kill me?

No problem; to be fair, I'm probably far enough away that you likely would have died long before I got there anyways. At least, on my Hardcore character I am; on my 3pp character, I'm a lot closer, but I'm also in a spot where I logged with a friend, so I probably wouldn't want to leave him alone anyways.
  13. I logged in earlier today after not playing for a couple weeks after trying out 0.53, and, to be honest, I didn't really notice any difference. To be fair, I was already at full Energized, Hydrated and Healthy statuses when I logged in, and it wasn't until after I was attacked by an invisible zombie inside of a house that this changed, with Energized changing to Energized and Healthy disappearing altogether. I did, however, need to eat at least 3 or 4 full cans of tuna before I regained my previous statuses, which seems different somehow. Of course, I make it a habit to eat any fruits or vegetables I find immediately, as well as taking a few sips from every well I come across, so this might help to explain why my statuses don't change very much.

    New Dayz 3D map

Ok, let's see what gets out of Alpha first: the map, or the game! :D Seriously though, awesome job! On the 3D modelling, too! For your first crack at 3D modelling, you did a great job at making the buildings look as they do in-game. Another reason I like this is that, with other maps, such as the one at DAYZDB, you can't really tell if there is a hill or a valley in certain areas, until you physically go there in-game; with this, you can see if certain areas have good elevated positions for things such as over-watch and stuff, before you get there in-game, allowing you to plan out strategies well in advance. Now if you could only make it so you could track players in real time on the map a la a GPS system of some sort! :D Just kidding of course. Keep on it! Can't wait to see this further along!

    Dead Body

Fairly recently, I died (I think from a glitch) and then respawned just a couple of towns to the east of where I died; there was a V3S there, so I grabbed it and hauled ass back to where I died to see if I could get my gear back. I managed to find my corpse, but I could not interact with it. I think it had been maybe 10 minutes between my death and finding my body. Needless to say, I was disappointed. That being said, I think I understand the reason for it, but I agree that it would be nice to be able to find random player corpses that are lootable as you wander the countryside. I also thought about having dead players turn into zombies, as others have mentioned, but then I'm still not sure if the zombies in game are actually reanimated corpses, a la The Walking Dead, or simply infected people that technically are still alive, a la 28 Days Later and Left 4 Dead. If it's the former, then it could make sense; if it's the latter, as some have suggested, then perhaps not. However, regardless of this, it would be nice to be able to loot zombie corpses, since you technically already can, there just isn't anything on them. This would add to the realism of the game, as someone without anything might be willing to strip a dead zombie for warmer clothing, etc. I think the same would make sense for player corpses; I think there would be less worry about people using dead players to "gear up" also, for two reasons: A.) people do that already, and that in itself is realistic already; and B.) depending on how the person died, at least some of their stuff is likely to be ruined anyways, meaning that, not only is there less of a chance of someone finding usable gear, but there's also more of a chance of someone deciding not to murder someone solely to take their stuff, as they may risk ruining it and making their death pointless. Instead, they would likely take the person captive, a la established banditry, and simply take their stuff while they are still alive. After that, whether or not they decide to let you live is entirely up to them. ;) As for intentionally hiding corpses, I agree that it doesn't make much sense for the corpse to simply phase into the ground and disappear; I think that a better (and more realistic) idea would be to have to dig a grave before you can hide a body underground. Since we have shovels, trenching tools and pickaxes, and we can currently create garden plots, it shouldn't be too hard to set up a hole-digging function; you could even possibly set it up so that you can dig down to different depths, so as to create shallow graves (if you prefer). Not only would it be more realistic, but it would add depth to the game in the form of player-made cemeteries, loot stashes, and maybe even mass graves. Besides, anybody that has played Fallout knows how much fun it can be to dig up graves. :) Beyond that, if there were closets or other small spaces that we could drag bodies to and hide them in, a la Hitman, that would be even more fun. How neat would it be to open a door and see a body fall out suddenly? Of course, that would likely necessitate some sort of interactive ragdoll physics, which I'm not sure if they have in the game yet or not.
  16. I'm fairly certain that the Wellies boots and Boonie hat are waterproof; at least, I was able to run around forever in the rain and through puddles and ponds without anything even getting damp. Of course, that was about a month ago or so.

    Prison Island worth a visit?

I wonder if anyone ran past your gear not knowing it was there. :P Also, I think (not certain) that the Wellies boots and Boonie hat are also waterproof, so you should be fine wearing those while swimming. Unless they've changed that. i know I was able to run around in the rain and through puddles and ponds without anything even getting damp.

    Anyone else getting this?

Really? What type of rig do you have? And what settings are you playing the game on? I'm playing with everything on Normal/Medium settings, and the game runs fine (albeit not outstanding) for me; my rig specs are in my sig. I'm guessing that your "beastly setup" is probably better than mine. If you're running on High settings (or above, if there is such a thing yet), that could be part of the issue, as I know the graphics aren't really optimized at all yet.

    How do I wildlife

You forgot to add you danced like a stripper while sitting there. :D
  20. I was playing a little while ago (not long after they added the elk/caribou to the game) and was in a town exploring when I saw a single, solitary zombie running towards another house; it disappeared behind the house, and my first thought was that there was another player nearby who attracted it, so I cautiously moved about, trying to stay hidden while also scouting for the other player. After about 5 minutes, I didn't see any sign of another player, so I figured that either they were watching me to see what I would do, they left the area altogether, or that it was an animal the zombie was going after. I then proceeded to move further into the town, and entered a parking lot, only to suddenly see an elk running straight for me at full speed; shortly afterwards, it veered off to my right and kept running, and no fewer than 6 zombies were hot on its heels. Unfortunately, since the elk decided to run right past me, at least half of the zombies chasing it decided to break off and go for me instead. Needless to say, I was a bit surprised by the whole thing, and it took me a second to realize that I needed to start running the other direction while taking out my axe to kill them off. I cannot wait to experience this on a much larger (and scarier) level. :D
  21. You can also search the ground when prompted, especially in wooded areas, to find sticks lying about. You can also split logs into sticks (not that it would likely help someone in your situation, but it's still useful info).

The Ecstasy of Food - DayZ Standalone

Apparently the boar couldn't take it anymore. :D I feel bad for that other guy, too; he probably thought it was a trap, even after he dropped. I honestly thought you were gonna do to him what you did to the boar. :D
  23. I was wondering the same thing; I thought they added those in the patch, only to find I was sorely mistaken once I logged in for myself. :(
