Awhile ago I put together a pc with a few less than stellar components with the intent on upgrading in the future. I spent extra on the processor and less on the video card. Well, the future is now and I'd like to get a few opinions on the matter. I'm going to be upgrading my RAM and video card. My current specs are as follows: i7 960 3.2 GHz 6 GB Super Talent 1333mhz RAM Nvidia GTX 550ti asrock x58 extreme motherboard I was thinking about getting the 2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 and a gtx 750. I'm wondering if that would be decent for my budget (around $200) or if there is something better for around that price range. Side note: I have 6GB in the motherboard, but my pc is telling me I have 4GB installed. I read that 2GB are used for the graphics card, but...does that sound legit? I'm not super tech savvy. Edit: It should also be noted that I currently have a 520w power supply. My 600w power supply blew while I was playing 'Hitman' so I picked up this 520 and haven't had any issues with it since. The shitty thing is that it was a 600w thermaltake...and the cheap dynex 520w is doing just fine.

How odd. The peculiar thing is the 'mysterious' bit. Intriguing indeed. Makes me think of "The Tell-Tale Heart".

No, they have to be locked by a player. That's been my experience with it anyway.
-
I like the locked doors. It gives me peace of mind especially if I need to stop for a little while to eat and drink or organize my inventory. I treat it as a first line of defense. The minute I hear someone banging on the door I can get ready for a fight if they don't leave when asked. Plus, if I come up on a door that is locked it gives me a heads up that someone might be inside. So long as the buildings don't start off locked. I think that the only locked doors should be the doors players lock themselves. Those are my pennies anyway.

lol It's got the center dot also. Jeez, it's like when a junkie calls the cops to say he get ripped off during a deal. Not to mention, I think most of us are already aware of this and many other eggs.

Oh yea, Odin's pic is much clearer. For a clearer view of the zombie - Odin's pic is near the top http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212191-experimental-branch-050-discussion/page-66 I guess I'm not certain he was the torturer, either way though, the guy was coming in with his bow raised after I told him I was unarmed. That's reason enough for me to blast someone.

Those underground shots kinda remind me of 'The Last of Us'. It's that grungy, messy, unmaintained post apocalypse vibe

lol, no worries. I honestly couldn't remember if it was or not. I haven't played it in forever. I have the disc around here somewhere...shit I think I still even have the box for it. I got it during the time that PC games came in absurdly oversized boxes.

I'll start with the story first. I'll keep it short. There I was, lounging in a small cabin chowing on a can of spaghetti-o's. I had just run a few miles in the rain and decided I would rest up and eat while I gave my clothes a chance to dry off. Just as I finished eating I heard the tell tale zip of a crossbow being shot. I sat up and looked out the window, hoping to see what was going on. A few seconds later I heard another arrow fly, quickly followed by an agonized scream. I gathered my things, making sure to tuck my sawed off shotgun into my jacket. As I headed toward the sound of the scream I heard what sounded like someone eating. I thought that was a bit odd, however it started to make sense when I heard the gagging that shortly followed. This asshole was force feeding his victim. By the time I found the victim he was already dead and looted. The perpetrator had to be nearby. I decided that this scum had to pay. I ran through the street yelling out 'hello? is there anyone here?' feigning ignorance. It didn't take long before I heard an arrow fly by me. I quickly ducked into the nearest house and shut the doors behind me. I made sure that he saw where I went. I crouched in a corner and readied my shotgun, both barrels pointed at the door. As I heard footsteps approach I yelled 'please don't shoot me, I'm unarmed' and like the scumbag he was, he decided he was going to have his fun and force feed someone else until they died. Not today however. As soon as the door opened I let him have it with both barrels. He went flying backwards and was dead before he hit the ground. I walked up to his corpse and asked 'was it worth it? you little prick' and I left town. I was quite satisfied with the righteous vengeance I had brought down upon that pathetic worm. I used his arrogance and blood lust to my advantage and it worked like a charm. Ok, now for the new zombie model I came across earlier today. The picture quality is pretty shitty, I have my settings turned down quite a bit whilst I wait for my new ram to arrive. It looked like an old man without his shirt. He went down easy enough with one good slap of the axe. Hopefully someone can take a better quality pic than this one. I found him kinda out on some farmland near one of the small cabins. It was around the area of Zelenogorsk.

I'm starting to think the 'homemade explosive' idea is probably correct. What all would one need to make a...actually. Maybe that isn't something we should discuss...the hows of it I mean. I won't be able to hop on for a little while so I can't mess around with it unfortunately. Also, just finished uploading the short vid. I should've tried busting down the door bare handed as well as the axe, but I didn't think about that until now unfortunately. The crowbar can pop the door open in one swing, which makes sense. I just hope it isn't one hit for everything. If someone happens across another set of lock picks, see if you can bust open the door with your hands, or another melee weapon. Anyhow, here is a short vid of the lock pick in action. As you may have noticed, the quality of the lock pick degrades with use. Also, you must have the lock pick in hand in order to use it. I noticed the crowbar there at the end and decided to see if I could pry open the door. Indeed I was able to with one quick hit. [EDIT: Just read Stryker's post. I wasn't aware that some farming was implemented. Geez, I'm quite a bit behind it seems . Well, I'm still curious to see the lime being used.] [EDIT TWO: I have my game settings turned down quite a bit, hence the shitty textures and what not. Just waiting on my new ram to arrive.]

I see!! Very cool. I'm gonna hop in and try it out. [EDIT: Just hopped in and tried it out. Works like a charm! The quality drops with each use it seems, and I was able to pop the door open with one hit of a crowbar, but I think it will still be a good first line of defense in a hold out situation.] Very cool addition. I recorded my lock picking testing. I'll post it up here in a moment. If anyone finds some more lime, try to experiment with it and let us know what you come up with.

So I hopped onto experimental today and the first thing I noticed...was that I loaded in so fast I didn't have time for my ritual piss break. The next thing I noticed was the my framerate was considerably higher than normal. I'm not sure what the team has done, but it is fantastic. I was actually getting all giddy about it. I recommend trying out the new experimental build if you haven't yet. So in my excitement I ran around checking out some houses I would normally skip and I suddenly came across a bag of lime on the ground. Funny enough, I actually found it near the wrecked bus with the mass grave. A few minutes later I spied a peculiar little object on the ground. I didn't recognize the shape so I decided to check it out. A set of lock picks? Curiouser and curiouser. So then. The discussion is this... What do you suppose these new items are for? Surely the lime would be used for gardening, yeah? Disposal of bodies isn't really a main concern of many of the new residents of Chernarus, I don't think. The lock picks though. What on earth do you suppose those are going to be used for? Unlocking safes? Houses? Handcuffs? All of the above? Forgive me if there has been talk of safes and such, but I haven't heard anything about items we may be able to lock. So there. Speculate! or clue me in if I missed something :P.

I remember that reloading sound thing on spawn. It saved my ass on a couple occasions, giving me enough time to boogie on out of the area. The thing about having a sound on spawn is that...for the player that is already in-game, they aren't expecting to hear anything...so when someone spawns in and they hear the sound in all likelihood they aren't going to know exactly where it came from. I wouldn't go around hunting for another player, especially if I have no idea what they are packing. I'm all for having a sound play during log in. For one, it's a terrible idea to log out in a highly trafficked city, or area. You're just asking to be popped when you log in. I have never willfully logged out anywhere near any buildings. I always go out to the nearest tree line. Think of logging out as putting your character to sleep. You wouldn't sleep in a building that everyone and their mother goes to for loot, would you? I also understand that sometimes people might lost connection, or the server might restart while your looting a city. In the event of a server restart, you are usually pretty safe to log back in as long as no one was around before restart. If you lose connection, well...here is a tip. It's something I do to ensure I don't get killed when I log in. I find a 0 pop server and log in, head to the tree line, and go back to my home server. That way I can make sure I'm not gonna be met with a barrel to the forehead when I spawn. In Day Z, you have to take extra precautions to ensure your own survival. Sometimes that means going out of your way to make sure you keep your character alive. The best way to make sure you are logging out safely is to ask yourself if you would sleep in the spot you log your character out at...and if you are forced out of the game due to thing beyond your control, then make sure you take the extra precaution to ensure your characters safety. Those are my pennies.

LOL Very good, sir.

Yea, there is a front sight. I have my settings turned down quite a bit (waiting on some new ram) so it didn't show up in the screenshot, but it does have a front sight. I still have my second shotgun and have since stocked up on shells. Whilst running through a small village I decided to test out the gun and boy is it a blast! You know how sometimes a gun just feels right and sounds good? (in a game I mean) It's just a nice, sexy, and simple boomstick and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Then again, I'm a big fan of shotguns.
