I imagined a spirit of feeding an arcade machine as a payment method, not a PVP catalyst. A Zed depletion would have the potential for terrific tragedy with a big enough pool.

I don't think anyone would be able to hold a pool for long without significant teamwork. Perhaps it could even make murder more emotionally disturbing. Wouldn't it behoove survivors to not engage in firefights with strangers if they were paying money per each life?
