Old forum-goers, OP reminds me of an old poster that used to publish threads similar in nature, maybe 1-2 years ago. His name, "Rezarekshun" leads me to believe that this is an alt account made by the same person. Does anyone know the name of the account that they remind me of?

This is a skill system, that as I understand it, is effectively pointless. It changes nothing and is of no use to you if you are alone. So if I do a ton of gardening, then do some fishing, I cant garden as effectively? Makes no sense. I think there was some fear of angering the player base if it changed the game too much, so they went with a system that essentially changes nothing-unless of course, you have a squad with designated roles. Maybe Im wrong, only time will tell.

The mod was a niche experience. So hard for new people to start playing, and so unforgiving in its mechanics(and merciless doors) That the term "anti-game" was used to describe it. DayZ being hard is what made it popular. Then mods of the mod made it too easy, and made people forget what made vanilla great, and why everyone was excited to see a standalone version.

The game is easy mode right now, impossible to starve or die of thirst. Only real threat is wolves and server hopping coastal campers with AKs. When pvpers say they are being ignored, what they mean is"why dont I have a gun right away/why do I have to eat/survival games shouldnt be hard to survive in/only real threat should be other players/I forgot CS exists." Surviving in the world, by itself, without other players to be worried about should be hard. If it isnt, then what is the point of calling it a survival game? Why bother farming/fishing/hunting if you dont need to? "It is no secret that DayZ set out to be a punishing survival title from the start of the project."- This, from the Dec.6 status report, gives me great hope for the future of survival in this game. I hope the pvp only crowd doesnt cry their way into making Dayz a casual game.

Gotta agree with you on that. There is something immensely satisfying about being able to use the terrain to avoid certain death. Its better, I think, if you can get revenge but usually its me alone vs 4 or 5 guys and running is the only realistic option.

This exp build is the first time that I have had trouble surviving since the mod days, when it seemed I was constantly searching for food. Guns are plentiful, ammo not so much. If it wasnt for the unfortunate souls I came upon chilling in their tent my friend and I would be dead of hypothermia. This build finally reinforces my original hopes that this game will be a difficult survival experience, and not the pvp-max loot-no infected-eat once a day arma clone that the mass audience seems to want. I was attracted to the mod, as many others were, because of the reputation Dayz built up as the "anti-game", a brutal experience that requires you to play by its rules, instead of running and gunning over and over again. I may have severely rose tinted glasses when it comes to the mod, but I remember starting out as a fresh spawn and dying more often than not before getting established.... and then getting shot from who knows where in the middle of the woods. When every trip to a high loot location meant dodging snipers and hoping you had enough food for the journey, so you didnt have to risk stopping in a town. I remember being forced to navigate purely through the woods, because roads were a death sentence. I remember having mercy on a guy in elektro because he had just...all the zombies chasing him. Then again, maybe I just sucked at the mod.
