  1. Amen! The CDC page is hilarious, had no idea.. I never considered Boars, but that's a great two-way animal. It would make a fantastic meal AND seeing how dangerous they are, if it gores you with its tusks its CERTAIN to cause infection!
  2. Haven't you said enough? You don't think the Moderator's post was directed specifically at you? This thread and OP was not about whether or not you want to see Animals, it was about the possibilities therein, because, as the moderator suggested, they're likely coming, and your 'flame-posts' will have no bearing on the direction of the developers.
  3. Pacific_coast, listen 'bro', the purpose of this thread is simply to discuss the possibilities of a game element the WILL come. But just so you can sleep soundly tonight without wetting yourself, the vast majority of what was discussed in the Q&A was about streamlining gameplay, medicine, loot spawning, improving zombies and solving hacks/exploits. No one said anything about farms. /derail
  4. This item needs to be coveted in the game.. anyone have first hand experience (in game)? Should also be possible to spray paint it green or black...
  5. Maybe you don't realize it yet, but there's a very large and very well organized population of players belonging to groups that consider themselves 'heroes' of the survivalists.. I can assure you they're among the best killers in the game. Unlike yourself, they're not so contrived to believe that the presence of guns turns the game into a PVP deathmatch, though if provoked they'd be more than capable of sending a noob like you to a beach.

So, I seem to be stuck under a house...

Pull your bottom lip over your head and swallow. You'll reappear at NWAF. Or, alternatively, try searching the forums for your question before posting about something has happened to just about everyone.
  7. I have some thoughts on this. As I've mentioned in a multitude of threads concerning the lament of KoS, deviant bandits, etc. there is a quintessential disconnect between what happens in a video game and what would happen in the real world. In real life, presented with the scenario of this game, I contend that most people would cooperate or commiserate when confronted by strangers. If ONLY from sheer loneliness of being among the last surviving uninfected. Granted there are a few bad eggs, but the amount of unwarranted murder present in the game is because it IS a video game. If someone chooses to play like a mindless serial killer, they are free to do so, this IS a video game; though I contend this 'choice' remains unrealistic. That said, the resulting imbalance of what 'would' happen and what 'is' happening opens the door for artistic-license, so the developers can do what needs to be done to keep the game entertaining. Tents (or whatever form stashing takes) should be hive-based and unlimitedly lootable. When you join a server, your gear stash spawns in with you, wherever you left it. If someone finds it before you return, that's bad luck for you. It adds a fresh objective to veteran players, both from a collection and banditry stance, and it adds a new player dynamic.. to loot or not to loot [someone else's shit]? There should also be a limited number of slots, similar perhaps to a mountain pack, and a further limitation on hardware similar to the player. One, maybe two positions for a gun. We wouldn't want to see people hording 15 guns and enough food and ammo to storm the Bastille. Its at that point that stashing seems silly and exploitable. Consider how these things interact with the actual game. Would you plant your tent near a high-traffic area like a city or airfield? Of course not, unless you were setting a trap ;) . Furthermore, considering (A.) how far away you'd have to hide your tent from loot-heavy places and (B.) the already-limited nature by which you can carry surplus gear or weapons, it will actually take great efforts to build up any sort of stock pile. In the Mod, a player could say, "i'll just leave 5 of my 10 guns" .. in Standalone, if you want a gun in that tent you're either giving up the only one you've got, or you're carrying a second one in your hands from wherever you found it.. not terribly efficient- especially in lieu of how fruitless all your efforts might be if someone could find your tent just as easily as they can find you. To all the folks complaining that tents will unrealistically betray the notion that dying means you return as an entirely new person, (without connection to the previous life, memories or otherwise): consider the fact that every time you return as a new person you maintain knowledge of the entire map, the unbroken chatter of people in teamspeak, the amalgamated experience of dozens of hours of play, and intimate knowledge of exactly where you have to go to find a gun.. THAT is unrealistic.

    Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)

WTF? How could you possibly have a problem with this? All the server lag and "You are already using something" messages make eating a can of beans in four stages an unrealistic endeavor.

Nearly got an heart attack when entering a prison

LoL You sure you didn't enjoy that axing a little??.. you didn't think the 4-5 30 caliber rifle wounds were sufficient? I for one can attest to being in a "heightened" state of paranoia whilst in military facilities. KoSers and dickholes both have attested in numerous forum threads to douchebaggery such as lying in wait for military loot gatherers, so when a fully kitted guy comes tearing around a corner inside a military building, I have a hard time blaming you. I considered using the mic to announce the fact that I'm outside when entering military buildings, but it's a two way street. That same douchebaggery might mean I've given myself away, and they'll just wait silently for me to enter. I just try my best to identify a weapon in their hand or staccato my movement a little, hoping to hear anyone moving around when I stop.
  11. LoL.. its nothing more than Midwestern-American vernacular for home-stilled alcohol. One of the oldest human industries, and very prevalent in eastern Europe.
  12. I agree, if only to give the players more to do, more to occupy their time with, etc. MOONSHINE!!

    Where is this?

    Two kinds of Pumps

Simple concept.. Two kinds of water pumps (wells). One is an 'urban' version that is consistently clean and safe to drink; the other is a 'rural' untreated well pump that has a random potential for causing illness or sickness. My vision is based on the notion that there are far fewer risks in the rural areas of the map, where IMO the environment should be more of a challenge than in a city. Someone who camps on a hill and picks off bambies can retreat to a rural town to rehydrate, virtually free of personal risk. Conversely, the bambies have to make tough decisions about where they water themselves based largely on their willingness to tangle with better-equipped players. The pumps would be visually different, to prevent some confusion, of course. Now folks might have to think twice about that water pump in Staroye without a proper water testing kit (additionally a gear idea). Also, the bad wells would be random, potentially different every time the server resets.

    Two kinds of Pumps

I believe they're trying to find more ways to make the suburbs relevant, foremost of which is an increase in firearms spawning in residential areas.
  16. KoSers haz a sickness and the only medicine is MORE ASS-HATTERY :P
  17. I understand what you're going for, I just don't know that it's built into the fabric of the game to know the difference. I could be wrong of course. As long as people (A.) don't have anything to do but collect gear, (B.) have to fear every single player they encounter and (C.) have nothing to fall back to or vehicles to traverse the map quickly, the urge to be armed and geared will outweigh a lot of folks' desire to take it the 'long [honest] way'. IMO, the devs should be focusing on deepening the game dynamics, adding new map and environmental content, new hazards (like the infection system and illness), vehicles, and more zombies. I think an influx of these sorts of improvements will change the game dynamics to a degree that the hopping issue will solve itself holistically (to the best extent that it can). By chiding the devs about server hopping and logging issues, the community is distracting them from making the overall experience better. Server hopping is spilled milk at this point.
  18. I think their primary goal was preventing combat loggers and ghosting. You have to keep in mind that with an Alpha release there's a million and one ways to lose connection with a server, so extensive punishments would be unjust to people who are legitimately having difficulty staying connected or have legitimate reasons to leave briefly. The 5 for <30 penalty is merely a way to slow down the hopping, but no matter what there's no way to eliminate it entirely. Try this: only play in servers with >5 people. Hoppers looking for gear will likely hang around airfields, thus a populated server exponentially increases their likelihood of earning a lead injection. This way you'll be in servers that will/may have been 'legitimately' raided, and you can barter or scrounge like the devs intended.
  19. I blame the KoS crowd out there. To date I have yet to die by zombies, falling, starvation, dehydration or for a fight I started. Ignoring glitch-outs I'd consider myself a successful survivalist. I tend to hang to the North, but I know a lot of folks who want the excitement of the cities. So long as they can't enjoy the city and the survival aspect without being killed by mindless dickholes bent on ruining other people's experience, the victims will hop to rearm themselves to the degree which they can resume their path. As I've said before, wanton murderous violence among survivors would not be the norm IRL. The best part of the Alpha release is that by the time this game is in full release the bunghole-jockey-KoSers will be bored and a new Battlefield or Call of Duty that will draw them away. Having gear tents and vehicles will greatly reduce the perceived "need" to hop.

Why aren't there 'fat' characters in DayZ?

Because the fat people only exist in North America.. the rest of the world knows how to control themselves around food.
