  1. I'm standing on the second floor of a building in a small coastal town, staring out the window at the sea. It's starting to get dark outside, which gives the image an almost romantic look. At that moment I spot a hideous green bandana, lying on the bed next to the window I'm standing at and I decide to try it on, just for the laughs. I take of my headtorch (which I found earlier today together with a canteen) and put on the bandana. I look at myself in the mirror: hideous, as promised. I laugh a little and turn around to take back the headtorch I dropped and be on my way. But where did I leave it.. I start looking around the room slowly trying to spot it, but in vain. My headtorch (and my only battery) is gone. At that moment the evening loses all of its romantic appeal to me. I need to find light, and I need to find it fast. I run out the front door and start bursting doors of other houses like a madman. Every time I leave a building the sky is darker than the last time and I start to panic: none of the houses have any source of light. Not even a battery lying around, or a gas cannister, nothing to give me hope. I have checked all the houses in this town and it has become night, not evening, not sunset, night in all it's glory. I run onto the street that leads from coastal town to coastal town and decide to just follow it until I get to the next town, as I could see the silhouette of the roof of a far away house in the distance right before it got completely dark. With the best of my ability I manage to stay on the road but by the time I reach the new town it's dark, so dark. I can't even see the house anymore, although I'm almost 100% sure it's right in front of me. I turn my eyes to the sea and see a pier. I stand there for a moment: on the road I can barely see, in front of a town I can't see at all, next to a mountain I can't see. All I see is a pier, and I give up. I walk to the pier, stumbling over fences that I don't notice until my knee hits them, and walk up it. I walk to the end, turn around and sit down. Looking at the small part of the pier that I can make out in front of me (thank god the sea reflects the moonlight) and how it disappears into the darkness. I sit there for quite some time, hungry, wet (try getting up a pier when it's pitch dark) and utterly calm: I'm ready to die here. After some time, my survival instinct seems to kick in because I lose my calm completely. I can't die like this, not after making it this far. I stand up and run back to the coast, I make my way back to the street and try to get into the house that I know is there. Slamming my hand against the walls, hoping to find a door, but I don't. I keep on trying but the complete darkness (now that I'm at the roadside of the building, I can't even see the sea anymore) kills my nerves and I start shouting. "Anyone hear me? ANYONE? HELP ME!" Footsteps. I'm sure of it. I hear them coming closer. I keep on shouting, knowing very well that all odds are against me and I probably just gave a bandit an easy prey. A light flashes on. Right into my eyes. I'm blinded completely, but I know someone is looking at me. I lift my farming hoe, to show him I'm not going down without a fight, while I tell the light how I lost my headtorch and beg for help. Someone walks into the light and looks at me. I can't make out what he's holding, but I'm quite certain the person is armed. He doesn't say a word but just looks at me, while his friend shines at me with his light. And then they talk: they ask me to stick with them until we find some light for me. I'm saved. I live.

Newbie questions from a newbie player.

In case the 7.62x51 fits, you didn't find a shotgun but a blaze, not exactly the same. but doesn't really matter all that much (blaze is effective at long range too, while a shotgun isn't). You'll have to eject the bullets from the gun and see how many bullets came out, or just count your shots. You can't, you'll have to actively do it from the inventory (or with the f key, in case you found a speedloader). then about the adding of features: I think it's save to say that gathering wood will most definitely be possible in the long run, the others I don't know :)
  3. So, although I have taunt bound to the f4 key, pressing the fn key (laptop) and f12 together (which is how I turn up the volume) causes my character to flip the bird too. Not that big of an issue, until some friendly talks to you, you turn up the volume to hear him better and get shot for being rude (true story). So I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what may be causing this/how to prevent it? :) Thanks!

    Zeroing a gun/scope

In your top right corner you'll see a number when you are holding a gun. Probably 100 in your case. Pressing the page up and page down keys will change this number. It represents the range the gun is zero'd (?) at. So 100 means the middle of your scope is where the bullet will be at 100m etc. Estimating distances is just a process of trial and error (atleast, to me it was :P)

some question about dayz stand alone

    1) 19 players scattered over 200+ square kilometers (although most people can be found indeed, near the south and the beach). So yes. It is :) I'd recommend joining rather full servers if you are looking for player interaction (your character is saved, no matter what server you go to) 2) you probably haven't eaten or drunk enough yet. It's not enough to make the messages disappear, you need to eat and drink a lot more. You will start healing slowly once you get there. 3) if you want to use an online map:http://dayzdb.com/map#4.095.063 try to find out in what city you are (look at signs with names on them) and then use your map to navigate

Any ideas on fixing "Ghost Walking"?

I'm wondering how it will be fixed? Glad it will be, but how? For combat logging it's not that hard (a timer) but I personally don't see how you would handle these cases?

    Graphic settings for sniping

That's an interesting tip, will try that (had it maximized)

    Graphic settings for sniping

Alright, thanks for the quick replies! :)
  9. So, I got into a firefight the other day over at an airport, mosin vs mosin, and although I knew where my attacker was, I really couldn't see him while zooming in with the scope. I really couldn't see much at all to be honest because the graphics got real bad at long ranges. Now I don't have a great PC (it ain't even a PC but a laptop) so although I'm sure that putting everything to ultra (or whatever the top settings are) would help a lot, sniping with 2 fps wouldn't be that effective either. (the laptop ain't horrible either, but well yeah, DayZ somehow requires quite something) The question is: Are there certain settings that can be changed to make the biggest difference when it comes to being able to see things in the long range? (possibly only when I zoom in) Or was it just that that guy couldn't really tell where I was either (which I doubt :P) or I should just get a better PC and stop whining? Thanks in advance!

    playing alone

At this point (Alpha is Alpha) there are exactly 2 items to be crafted. (rags, made by tearing up a shirt, and something for a broken leg which I don't even know how to make) So I guess the crafting isn't a dealmaker yet :P But you can be sure that more crafting will follow :)
