Well, not just experimental really. People didn't have access to alpha and beta stage softwares a few years back. It's part of the process. All of us having access to these early stage development softwares slows down their creation process. Normally, an alpha is all part creating the game (animations, maps, textures, items, mechanics, etc.) while beta tries to fix all the bugs and glitches created in the process to finally make a complete game. Today, the devs need to make the alpha stable enough for us to play, thus the reason why we "understand" what implies to be part of the early access: interruptions of service are inevitable. The testing is all being done while they're creating the game. Those bugs are discovered only when the happen. Transferring part of the code from software used by developers to servers ready to welcome players in is somewhat not as easy as it seems. -

Even with a battery, this one didn't seem to work. (at least there was no animations, or added effects. The very cooperative test subjects (current exp zombies) didn't seem to care batteries or not. Maybe it's a different story with a player, didn't test that. -

It's been like that for the past 3-4 months. They don't post official patch notes for the experimental branch, only for the stable branch. -
You only played for a month. You can't base the DayZ experience just by that. I've met a lot of "friendly" players and been killed dozens of times. It won't change my playstyle. I don't KoS and use my mic more than my guns. Got about 480-500 hrs in the stand alone since December 2013 and gotta say that I love my experience so far. That said, this isn't a finished game and far from it. It's just an alpha, so they are building the game. Once we get to beta, they'll start fixing the major issues to finally try and release a final product. Until then, the overall experience will fluctuate a lot from super fun to game breaking. It's all part of the process. In all my time playing the stand alone, I have to say that I've been killed anywhere, from deep in the forest, to the dangerous NWAF, to small towns scattered across the map. It doesn't matter really. Just try not to yell "friendly" too much, and use words like "non-hostile" or "not threatening". Try different approach. And keep in mind that saying "friendly" doesn't really mean anything. Look for strange behavior and learn from every encounter you get. Some just turn to "kill or be killed", but it's the easy way out and it's not representative of the entire community.

The problem with 0.49, is that there are "2" 0.49... We had an experimental patch called 0.49.124857 a while ago that only had a few teaks for melees, animations and a few others, and the whole weather system affecting players. (placeholder) But, the rest of 0.49, with the 2 new guns, new melees, new clothes (fingerless gloves, firefighter outfits), new horticulture placeholder, new animal (the wolf), will be the next experimental update. Once this new update hits stable, then we'll have the stable branch reset/character wipe. At least that's the way I understood things with the confusion of having threads about "We'll have a wide server reset/wipe when 0.49 hits stable." which doesn't tell which of the 0.49 patches hitting stable will push the reset. I figured it would be the "complete" 0.49 because right now the experimental 0.49.124857 only added a few things, and honestly I didn't see any changes to get rid of hacked mags/dupers and such. (The reason we're supposed to have a big stable branch wipe is to get rid of all the duped items, hacked mags and other hacked/scripted items when they get rid of those "back doors" allowing such cheats to exist. I wound find it rather silly to wipe all hacked/duped/scripted items if they (the hackers) bring them all back 30 mins after the wipe.... Fingers crossed it'll be fixed.) -

It's the experimental branch that will have an update so only those characters will be wiped. When we finally get the complete 0.49 patch to the stable branch, then we'll have the stable hive reset/wipe. But we still need the rest of 0.49 in experimental for at least a week first! -

Sad story. Killed right after doing a good deed. Did you leave a note with the care package? You never know, maybe he felt bad for it after. I play mainly on experimental, and most of my encounters there were pretty good. Met great friends too that I still play these days with. But I've been killed, and killed too. About a week ago, I was alone in an experimental hardcore server and had been playing on this server for about an hour and a half. I was inside the Pavolovo military base near the hospital when I spot out of the corner of my eye, a player heading inside the barracks. For a split second there I thought about talking to him but been startled and in so close proximity, I shot him when he turned around facing me. 1 7.62 shot, he dropped dead. He had an AKM, and at that moment I thought about talking to him first instead and asking him to trade, since I had a few attachments and ammo for the AKM and was looking for the weapon. I felt a bit bad and felt sorry for the guy. But as I was looking in his inventory, I saw he had hundreds and hundreds of bullets of all types, speedloaders, mags, multiple pistols, so he was either a hoarder or a pvp guy gathering gear for him and his mates, and guilt vanished quickly. Few days ago, on experimental 1st/3rd view, full server, I was pretty much a fresh spawn running around Polana gathering basic loot, crafting an improvised backpack, but having minimal gear and no more rags. Got hit by a zombie and was bleeding to death when I met 4 other players of which 2 immediately bandaged me while the others killed the remaining zombies. They didn't know each other. No one killed each other and we split what we had, then parted ways. My point is don't give up mate. It's tough out there, but never give up! (And when you get too pissed off, just go ballistic on what you want, make it zombies, wildlife or players, and you'll feel better! B) ) -

I played about 12 to 15 hours on the last week. I don't care what so ever for the wipe. Heck, I got 16 to 18 characters (8 to 9 on both regular, and hardcore servers) that got wiped since I always hop in experimental as soon as there's a new patch, and they wipe characters all the time. Do you stop playing because you die and lose your gear? It's the same, only this time you have a vague idea of when it's gonna come. Never treat an alpha/beta like a complete game. Of course you can have fun, but never consider them like a complete game. -

It's always when you're looking for something that you can't find it... I can confirm that I found several on experimental branch, in garages and sheds.

There's no official date or eta. When 0.49 comes to stable, it'll come with server wide reset for all characters. You can see the warning on experimental servers. Note that the 0.49 update in not complete on experimental, and there's only the weather system affecting players so the rest of the patch (along with the new helmets, fingerless gloves, melees, 2 new guns, wolves, etc.) will come before the stable branch gets updated. My guess is not for next week , maybe the one after.

Horticulture, along with the wolves, fingerless gloves, 2 new guns, firefighter clothes, new helmets, etc. (the rest of 0.49) will be in a patch we'll probably get next week or the week after. As for placeholder, it's a term defining a feature in game that's added that will eventually be different as the game progress to final release. A temporary look, sound, feel and overall details of a feature/aspect of the game. Pretty much everything we get in the current state of the Alpha is a placeholder. Ex: The fire doesn't even have sound effects. The AKM uses an old ArmA 1 sound file. The fishing animation has changed since it's first implementation, and will get further tweaks in the future. Same has the way your character has the bow on it's shoulder, it's only temporary. The horticulture feature we'll get with experimental 0.49+ will be a placeholder, for further tests, tweaks, polishing, and diversity/expansions. -

How to hold breath with long range scope?

Have you been hit by a zombie recently? Even if it doesn't show you have a fracture, using morphine or a splint will fix excessive sway. Rebinding your key usually work, as I use left "ctrl" to hold breath while right mouse button zooms in. It only last for about 3 seconds, then you'll hear your character breath heavily. Hope this helps. -
Hop into experimental, and jump in a fire, you'll see it's real. It surprised me a lot believe me, has I had not read anything about this, even searched the forums. After that I had to heal up for a few minutes so I don't know how long I burned, and if rolling around on the ground helped in any way, but it did damage me. (none of my items seemed to have been damaged) I made the fire to cook this fish. You can still see the healing status.

Don't get too close to the fire in 0.49!! (Part of the weather affecting player overhaul.)

I know about the hacks/scripts, the duping and hacked mags, but I thought the "pick up gear to make it respawn" glitch was "fixed" and that only when the loot respawn table experiences problems we see these kind of infinite loot. (0.49 experimental) I saw this infinite loot everywhere on this server.

Found a neat little trick to have stable temperature. Might be a glitch though. (probably) But with gorka jacket, you can't get wet from the rain, just like the raincoat, but you still can get wet by entering water. By just getting damp, I wasn't wet enough to get cold, and was unable to dry off my clothes. And somehow, while running I wasn't getting hot anymore. Ran for 30 minutes without getting any hyper or hypo messages. Never got dry too and was always damp. This will get fix eventually, but it was useful for the time it worked, instead of taking off my jacket every few minutes because I was getting hot too fast. -
Inb4 experimental gets an update and those disappear. Exp hardcore branch. Detail Exp regular character. Stumbled upon some loot respawn bugs and had no problem finding anything at all. Some UK server had tons and tons of stuff lying around everywhere. It probably crashed shortly after. First time having any FPS drops, and it was all because of boots... Hope this gets fixed in the 0.49 hotfix/new addon patch along with the new rifle and shotgun, and precious fingerless gloves.... Let's not forget about wolves! Detail
